Meagen laughed softly as Jareth creeled to the Violet, flittering around her now, and chattering. Flattering her, and twittering his praises at her. She smiled weakly up at the golden queen and laughed softly. "As I said..." she said lightly before she crouched near the golden egg. Wanting to be as on level with it as she could. Her hands pressed over the shell, and her eyes closed, as she radiated the largest amount of welcome energy that she could. She stood slowly, and bowed to the queen, her eyes shining with tears, that she barely managed to wipe away. She turned then to the Weyr woman. "I dearly hope one of your great queen's children is meant for me. I find life with draconic beings, better then without. Maybe... with... a dragon... my past will seek to haunt me..." She whispered softly a flash of something in the girls eyes as she turned to just wait near the Weyrwoman. Somehow this felt like a better spot then any. "Please excuse me, I want to watch the others touching..."

Lanoen
Lanoen quietly crept on to the sands. He had been waiting near the entrance for some other candidates to finish so that the Gold wouldn't feel too cramped with so many candidates around. He had a serious look on his face as he silently approached Nayarath and bowed to her as well as the Weyrwoman. He gave the unfamiliar woman beside her a curious look before turning away.
He brushed his fingers over all of the eggs, but he had a few favorites. The tiny, silver-gray Mercury Egg was among them. The coloration almost seemed to shift, like the egg was alive. Well, it was alive, but...it was like the egg itself was moving. The delicate Glass Egg was another favorite. It looked as though it would shatter under his touch, but it felt just like all of the other eggs when he carefully laid his hand on it. The Shadow Egg was impossible to miss, sitting in the middle of the clutch, and he was drawn by how dark it seemed among the other, more colorful eggs. Then there was the Night Egg, which looked just like a starry night sky, dark in a way that was more pretty than sinister. The last egg he visited was the large Clash Egg. He was attracted by its colorful shell, and he wondered what could be inside an egg that was almost bigger than the Gold. Maybe the Queen was actually inside that egg. It could be a Violet, after all. With that thought, he withdrew his hand, shaking his head. He didn't want a Queen! But it would be funny if the little Gold egg actually turned out to hold something else, with the fuss all the girls were making over it. He was almost tempted to ask Nayarath if he could touch the Gold egg, for a joke, but he decided not to test her. He removed himself to the side of the sands, waiting for the other candidates to finish.

Earisa had been hard at work in the lower caverns, helping out her mother as she always did. Candidate chores had never really had to be assigned to her, being Weyr bred from the caverns meant she knew what needed to be done and hadn't been one to play much. It wasn't till one of the laundry women mentioned to her a number of candidates down at the hatching grounds. Had she missed the message?!
Dashing across the bowl she arrived out of breath, so much so that she could barely stand. She couldn't miss this, no matter what! What did it matter that she had to be like the last person to arrive, some were even done and sitting to the side. While she had spent all her life in the Weyr, seen the clutches lain and hatched, this was the first time she stood as a candidate. She had even been present when Nayarath hatched.
Finally having regained her breath she joined the candidates among the eggs. Unable to pull herself to touch any of the eggs, she admired the patterns, making guesses as to what grew within. No one was ever able to guess them all but from time to time experienced weyrleaders knew roughly how many of each color would hatch from the clutch. Bowing to the queen she left the hatching grounds, she was only fooling herself. She was no candidate, just a girl thrown into the group to represent the weyr....

"Go on then." Kora shrugged. It was probably better that the girl left; Nayarath and Lilac liked her fire-lizards but she could tell that Nayarath was trying to be polite and not laugh at the fact that the girl had stepped away from her egg with tears in her eyes. The queen wasn't sure that her daughter would want to Impress to someone who cried easily- whoever rode this highest-ranking of her children had to be strong.
Nayarath swung her head to look at a boy who seemed to almost be sneaking onto the Sands... she didn't like that, no. Perhaps she was frightening him, that was good, but creeping gave off a thievish attititude that she didn't like much. He was only quiet as he approached Nayarath and Kora, and made no move of respect, he only looked at them. Odd. At least he treated her eggs nicely as he went around.
What do you imagine she's doing? Kora glanced discreetly at a girl who was only standing among the eggs, not touching them. Nayarath also gave her an odd look and snorted softly as the girl bowed and ran off.
Little Candidate, don't you know this is an egg touching? I imagine you should try doing that a bit. She forced herself to speak to someone other than her rider yet again. Hopefully they wouldn't expect her to call them to the Sands when the eggs hatched... for Nayarath wouldn't. All the humming would surely be warning enough to anyone with a mind.

[/i]' Kayla thought to herself as she rushed to the hatching grounds, she had been very busy doing Candidate chores and was now late to the egg touching. This would be very important, she would be able to meet the queen the laid the eggs and get to see the eggs herself which was the part she was most excited about. Thinking that she could have a dragon was more then enough to make this girl practically jump for joy. She kept running but then when she was close the entering she stopped and took a deep breath reminding herself that she needed to be calm and relaxed, no dragon queen or rider would want a squealing girl running around touching the eggs, she would keep those feelings to herself as much as she could. When she entered she looked around at the other candidates and then she looked at the gold queen. She was a beautiful dragon, and Kayla was surprised but then ceased her staring and continued over to the eggs boldly. She touched all of the eggs she could, spending time looking and gently touching each of the delicate surfaces. Watching how the eggs gleam in the sun's light. She smiled and continued to look at the rest carefully looking at each egg. Then when she was finished she kept distance from the gold queen and bowed before addressing the queen " May I have permission to approach your beautiful egg Nayarath?" then she said " All your eggs are so beautiful Nayarath, it is an honor to see them." Then Kayla waited patiently to see if the queen would let her see the queen egg. [/size][/ul]

Earisa went completely riggid when she heard the dragons voice in her head. She knew it! She messed up big time! Forgetting to bow to the queen to start with, not actually touching the eggs...Hanging her head in shame it only proved what everyone thought about her. Call herself Weyrbred...
It was too embarrasing, she had to leave. Before too many of the real candadates even noticed her. After this display she might as well not even turn up the hatching. No dragon would want her, keeping to the walls before exiting the grounds in near tears.

Nayarath shifted her gaze absently from the entrance of the Sands to yet another girl who was now requesting to meet the queen egg. Maybe she should have just left it with the clutch and spared herself of all these Candidates. It is very beautiful, isn't it? she spoke only to Kora this time and gave a dragon sort of smile.
"Nayarath says you have permission." Kora gave her own interpretation of the Gold's comment. Lilac spiraled down to perch on Kora's shoulder and watched the girl curiously. She was used to the size of the dragon eggs by now, but all these people in here was new to the little Violet.

Recieving permission again, Beka bowed her head slightly to the gold, looking at the queen egg cautiously. Would it really be a good idea to touch it? It would be admitting to herself that she didn't think this whole candidate ordeal was hopeless, she'd touched other eggs, but so had others. Other girls had far more potential to Impress the gold than she did. Still, she'd asked, so in a way, she really did have to touch it.
Swallowing hard as she looked at the egg, Beka reached out a hesitent hand, as though afriad such a high ranking egg would bite her. How she didn't know, but it was definately possible. When nothing bad happened, beka blushed slightly, glancing up at the gold in embarassment. Yes, she'd expected something bad, but wasn't that just her way?
Now she was up close, the golden egg wasn't frightening, not really. It was an egg just like it's siblings, it would hatch - in to a gold but hey - and find it's bonded like they all would. Chewing her lip slightly, beka ran her fingers down the shell, smiling softly. No matter what anyone said, she would be just a baby when she hatched, not the mature creature they tended to expect, maturity came with age. "Hello." She murmured, heedless of what anyone might think. She'd spoken to all the other eggs, it would be plain rude to leave this one out. "It's very nice to meet you. Is it warm in the shell? I think it would be nice to be in a shell, protected you know?" She spoke as though the egg would answer, treating it as she would any person. "Not being in a shell is good too I s'pose. I guess. I mean, it's hard but you have to keep going. Right?" Smiling slightly, she stroked the egg again before saying goodbye, "See you at hatching time." She murmured softly, pulling her hand away and stepping back. Bowing to Nayarath again, "I thank you for the honour of meeting your children."

Telat was sitting in the barrack petting his little firelizard Iron when he heard the queens voice. He knew that there would be a lot of people there and this just made him very nervous so he picked up Iron and put the firelizard on his and said to it " You will come with me wont you." Iron chirped to him in conformation and then Telat got up and went to the hatching sands. When he got there he realized he made a mistake again and was late and there were so many people here so he petted Irons head to calm him and he walked toward the sands. He walked on and bowed to Nayarath and the Weyrwoman. He then moved on to the Shadow Egg he looked at how dark it was and he reminded him of the past. He reached out and touched it then he smiled and asked Iron " What you think?" Iron chirped and Telat laughed and said " Yes I can agree to that." He then moved on the Night Egg It was another of those darker looking things he enjoyed. He moved on to Clash Egg and thought This one looks pretty. He moved on and touched the Talc Egg he thought Its so pale. He then moved around and touched all the other eggs before moving off the sands away form the others were he could be alone with Iron.

Ashdin Ashdin smiled in satisfaction as he leaned against a tree and closed his eyes so as to let them get a little rest. He had to admit that he was a little tired, do to the fact that he had woken up rather unkindly of a dream of the past, but that had stopped him from getting his chores done in a timely manner. He had thought that he had put the past behind him. But that was apparently not so, do to the fact that he couldn't stop the nightmares that had haunted him ever sense Tareen's murder. Of course he was not complaining. After all, he did deserve the torment of these dreams. It had been his fault that Tareen had been murdered and he knew it. He hadn't been brave enough to tell his father that he was not interested in women and, in the end, a woman ended up being his downfall.
A sad little ironic smile came to his face as he thought this and he forced these thoughts to the back of his mind once again. These were things that he had decided not to think about long ago and personally would have liked to forget them over dwelling over them. It was not like him to dwell on the past and he was not about to make it a part of him. Plus, how was he going to act like his flirtatious self if he had his head in the past all the time?
With this thought in mind, he sighed and opened his eyes to watch as people ran around doing there jobs. It was at that moment that a voice of a female intruded his mind and, with a start, Ashdin looked around franticly for the owner of the voice. It was apparent that the voice had startled him. But it didn't take him long to realize that it had been the queen dragon that had spoken to him. He could have kicked himself over his stupidity as he realized this. Why would some lady be walking around asking candidates if they wanted to meet her eggs? That would just be just silly! No, it wouldn't be just silly. It would be outrageously silly. But that didn't matter at the moment now did it? No, the queen dragon had summoned the candidates to the hatching sands to meet her eggs. He could only guess that this would be the touching and he was not going to be the candidate that didn't show up. With that thought in mind, Ashdin haled himself to his feet and started to run in the direction of the hatching sands.
It didn't take Ashdin long to reach the hatching sands, thanks to his long legs, but when he got there he was not surprised to see that the sands were already full of hopeful candidates. But that was not the first thing that his eye landed on. The first thing his eyes landed on was the beautiful gold queen dragon and her rider. His eyes lingered on huge dragon longer then the rider as he couldn't help but feel a little more then dwarfed by the beautiful beast. Though he thought that he could never be afraid of a dragon, Ashdin couldn't help but feel a little something a kin to fear when he looked upon the beautiful beast. So, this is what the queen dragon looks like? She is beautiful... But she is also a truly fearsome creature. It's not a wonder why no one wants to trifle with her, Ashdin thought as he gulped and tried to force down the feelings of fear she brought into his heart. He was not about to let a woman scar him away! Even if she was a zillion times bigger then him and could eat him in one gulp...
Lifting his head stubbornly, Ashdin strutted on to the sands with a mask of indifference on his face. He could feel the heat of the sand seep through his shoes and on to his feet, making him very uncomfortable. But he didn't let it show on his face. Walking straight up to the queen and the weyrwoman, he stopped a good distance away, so as to not be close enough to be eaten if the dragon, and bowed to the golden queen stiffly. The closer he had gotten to the gold dragon, the bigger it seemed to get, and the more his fear seemed to grow. But he continued to try and hide it with his mask. Not exactly sure what to say, Ashdin stood like that for a long moment then said the only thing that came to his fear numbed mind, "H-hello..." Ashdin wanted to kick himself after saying that singular word. He couldn't even say it without stuttering! He couldn't help the blush that crept on to his face after saying this. He felt like a idiot! You didn't just walk up to a queen dragon and say hello! What was wrong with him! This was so unlike him that it was disgusting!
Fighting for his composer again, Ashdin forced down the blush again and replaced it with a stubborn carefree look. Though what he had said was very stupid, he knew that he still had time to take it back and try again. "I mean, greetings... err... Majestic gold queen Nayarath? Err... Thank you for letting me come see your... Eggs?" Ashdin said to replace his mistake. He wanted to hit himself again for the 'errs' and the posses, but he knew when to leave well enough alone. Standing up again, Ashdin turned his gaze to the weyrwoman and gave her a little bow of respect as well. "Ah... Greetings to you as well Weyrwoman Kora... I-I apologize for my lack of senses... I just haven't seen a dragon like her before!" Ashdin said as he mistakenly rudely pointed at Nayarath. At this point all Ashdin wanted to do was drowned himself in the closest form of water he could find, but he didn't move. If Nayarath decided to eat him at this point, it was in her rights... He just wished that she wouldn't...

Damian Damian couldn't believe his luck as he walked on to the hatching sands of Nyocia Weyr. He had only arrived as a candidate only the night before and it seemed to be just in time for the touching. Though he had not know what it was at first, do to the fact that he had never been called for a touching before, it didn't take him long to figure out what was going on after hearing the queen dragons voice and watching some of the candidates running for the sands. Unlike many of the other candidates, Damian didn't go straight to the hatching sands after the dragons call. But he went back to the barracks instead and changed into something that he believed to be more suitable for the first time he would stand before the weyrwoman Kora and queen dragon Nayarath. It hadn't taken him long to get dressed and ready to go, for Damian had indeed became very fast at dressing and undressing himself as well as others, and now here he was. Walking across the burning sands of the hatching sands, wearing his finest outfit of white and blue cloth, heading in the direction of the Weyrwoman and the queen dragon.
Damian did not fear the dragon nor the woman that stood near by. But like any gentleman would, he stopped a good distance away from Kora, Nayarath, and the queen egg at the gold dragon's feet. Bowing deeply to the gold dragon first, then doing the same to the weyrwoman, Damian straightened himself and, with a smile, said, " Hello weyrwoman Kora. Hello queen dragon Nayarath. It is a great honor and pleasure to be standing before two beautiful women such as yourselves." Bowing to Nayarath once again, Damian continued to speak, "I thank you for allowing me to see your beautiful eggs." He had to admit that he had put on a nice act in front of the weyrwoman and her dragon. Though all that he had said was true, there ways no way that he was truly that charming. In fact, he would call himself quite the opposite. He was just trying to when them over like so many he had done before. They didn't have to know that.
Bowing a final time to Kora, Damian turned from them and to look at the eggs, but what caught his sight first had nothing to do with dragon eggs. What he saw was non other then Meagen, the women that had stolen his heart long ago only to stab him in the back and call him a rapist. Of course that was true, but he had never done that to her. What they had done was mutual and beautiful. At least that was what he had thought... But wasn't that really what mattered? Though he had tried to hate her, after she accused him of rape, he couldn't. He couldn't even hate her after she ran of with a bunch of traders and left him. He loved her and he knew that she no longer felt the same way about him. But could he change her mind? The only way he could find out was if he tried.
Dragon eggs completely washed out of his mind, Damian strutted towards her and fell to his knees before her. He could feel the sand burn his lower leg as he put his hands out before him on the sand and bowed as low as he could with out letting his face touch the sand. Pain shoot through he body as he arms and legs as. But he ignored it as he pleaded, "Meagen, I love you! Ever sense you left me at that sea side hold, all I could do was think about you. Though I know you hate me, for a very unjust reason I might add, I don't think I can live without you now that I have seen you once again. Will you please take this humble man back?" He knew he sounded pathetic, but that was exactly what he was going for. He knew that he would have to be humble to win her back and he hoped that bowing before he in the sands would help. If there was one thing he could say that he was feeling more then need, it was pain. Shards that sand was hot!

Nayarath was, again, glad to see she was frightening the Candidates. Kora shook her head, smiling slightly, and then nodded to the nervous boy. "Go ahead." The Gold at her side sniffed lightly at the boy's pointing finger, unused to the gesture and wondering why he was holding them out. Did he want her to eat it? Nayarath didn't eat people... she didn't think she had ever even bitten someone.
Now what does he think he's doing? Nayarath had paid little attention to the second boy as he came to greet her, but now he was falling to his knees before another girl and crying about love. One her Sands? Never. Nayarath was the queen of the Weyr and definately the queen of her hatching grounds. And he thought he could just fall to the ground before another?
Don't, Kora warned Nayarath quickly as she started to shift, probably planning to stand.
Nayarath snorted and lay her head on the ground next to her queen egg, glowering sideways at the boy. Stupid creature, did he think he could Impress one of her young if he saw some other girl as more of an idol? Never!

The dread had been building in her more and more as she had seen him approach. She did her best to ignore him as he watched her. It was when he dropped unto the sands and embarrassed himself before that she turned a cold eye upon him. She was barely keeping her fair under control. The felt her restrained fear, perhaps even the golden queen could feel it. Her hand landed on the golden one upon her shoulder, as Hope reacted. The golden fire-lizard had risen up on her shoulder, and was standing up, wings flared, hands buried in Meagen's hair and HISSING.
Meagen made a startled sound at the reaction of her gold. Soon finding all of her fire-lizards on the ledge behind the queen hissing at the male. That must be a sure sign to the Weyrwoman and the golden queen, about her fear of the male. But she would not let him see. She made a sharp whistling sound, and all of the flitters looked like they had been slapped. She was pissed at them for reacting and openly showing her emotions in a way people could see.
"You Sharding wherry brain!" she stated to the male on the sands. "Do you think I would accept you after this? This disgrace to the great golden queen Nayarath? What in Faranth's name is going through your head. This is about the dragons, not about you and your hurt ego. I don't give a herdbeast's dung about you any more, and I could give less now that you have disgraced Nayarath. The way you are acting... you would embarrass and shame ANY child of Nayarath's that could chose you." She stated. Her voice the whole time was even, and surprisingly kept in.
Behind her on the ledge her fire-lizards where silent, eyes whirling with anger and dear as they watched their bonded and the male. "Get up off the sands, you idiot. Apologize to Nayarath and be on your way, I want nothing to do with the likes of you. You are a disgrace to candidate's everywhere." She snapped.
She turned then to look at Kora and Nayarath, and then bowed. "I apologize great queens for my actions, this is a past I wished not to encounter. But it seems a Weyr builds strengths in a woman, that require she gets over certain past pains." she said lightly. Leaving it at that, why her fair was reacting such to him. She gave a quick whistling command and her whole fair just vanished. Off to hunt, as she had ordered them to. "I am sorry I spoke as such to another candidate, but I speak my mind when it is situations such as this.

Darshan was late, late, late. The call for the candidates to gather for the Touching had been nearly fifeteen minutes ago! Tugging on the cleanest tunic he could find, he smoothed the wrinkles out of the fabric as he rushed to the Hatching grounds.
There were many candidates there, but he was one of the oldest and the only one arrayed in the Glasscraft's colors of dusky yellow. Darshan fought off the urge to frown, feeling more like a social outcast than ever. Crossing the sands, Darshan bowed to Nayarath, putting off the negative thoughts that were running through his head.
He had been at the hatching when Nyocia's Weyrwoman Impressed the gold, and the thought made him feel old. Surveying the eggs, Darshan felt the old self-doubt coming back to him. It was his last chance at Impression, and even though he was a Glasscrafter now, it would be hard to deal with what could have been. He had wanted to be a dragonrider as a child, but what child on Pern didn't dream of Impressing a dragon? Yet even as he had matured and had found the one craft that he truly excelled at, that desire had remained. Perhaps it was time to put aside his foolish dreams and take what he had been fortunate to obtain...
"I met you when you first Impressed, and now I'm glad to get to see your clutch." Rising from his bow, Darshan gave the Weyrwoman a smile, figuring that even if she didn't recognize him that it would be polite to do so. Turning, he wandered off, carefully stroking the eggs before settling beside the Talc Egg. Work-callused fingers splayed across the powdery surface, rubbing gently at the shell before moving on to another egg.
The eggs seemed to go by in a multi-colored whirl, with each having their own special colors and markings. Darshan made sure to visit each one, even brushing a hand across the Gilt Egg just for the sake of it before beginning again. It was his last chance to Impress and he was going to be extra careful to pay attention to each of the eggs so the dragonets inside could get a good feel of his personality.

Y'xem slunk in after a rather tall Candidate. He was late to his own life-mate's Weyr-mate's hatching!!!
Maybe it wasn't so bad, it wasn't like the eggs were hatching but he should be there for Kora.
He strode accross the Sands and came to stand next to Kora silently, after bowing to Gold Nayarath, giving her a small smile. " I'm sorry I'm late. Alduth was going nuts to be here...but I made him stay just outside the side there. We had an errand to run for a friend." He pointed to Alduth's unmistakable head poking around the corner.
I suppose I agree with Mine that it is best for the Candidates if there are not two dragons in there during the Touching. Still... Alduth purred to his mate.

((*falls* Zen, I somehow didn't see your egg touching post til.... just now. o.o I'm so sorry.... D:))
Kora only suddenly noticed a quiet girl lingering nearby and gazed at her with faint surprise. Is she here to see your egg too?
Yes. Nayarath was still glaring at the boy still kneeling on the sand, or else she might have laughed at her rider's mistake.
Shards. Kora smiled at the girl and motioned towards the Gilt egg. "Of course. And don't worry, Nayarath isn't glaring at you... she won't bite. Sorry for making you wait."
Nayarath was quite liking watching the boy get shouted at by one of the Candidate who had made her angry earlier. She would have to watch out for this pair... from that start she hadn't liked them and now it appeared they knew each other. One was in love, the other in hate... how interesting. What a good girl to shout at the boy since Kora wasn't letting her.
And now another Candidate rushed in, this one in the dusky yellow of a glassmaster. Nayarath was much more interested in glaring at the groveling boy and didn't notice as he happened past and touched her Gilt egg. Kora did, but didn't point it out. That was a boy she thought she recognized; a Candidate when she had been one? But hadn't he left the Weyr? Well... he was a Candidate again. Maybe he'd Impress this time.
Who was that who slunk in after the glasscrafter? Kora raised her eyebrows as she noticed the Bronze poking his head in. So Y'xem had decided to show up? It was about time. "What was it?" An errend? Alduth didn't notify you? Kora expected the pair to be so in sync now that they knew about everything each other was doing. Apparently not. It was nice to think that she was still more in tune with the Gold than her new mate.
No. Nayarath lifted her head briefly to croon to Alduth and then returned it to its position by the Gilt egg and continued to watch the Candidates. You could come in and eat a few of them if you like. I am apparently not striking enough fear, she jokingly told her mate.

Gwenduinne had literally just arrived at the Weyr and had only had time to place her bag in the barracks (ugh, but it was temporary) where the candidates lived when they were summoned to the Sands. This fact explained the girl's slight tardiness. She hesitated at the edge of the Sands, observing how the others behaved as a quick way to learn appropriate egg touching etiquette. There had to be rules for this. Then, she strode out towards the eggs.
She sketched an elegant bow to Nayarath, "Lady gold, may I have your permission to touch the queen egg." She wasn't about to approach it without asking...that would be utterly rude. If she was a gold dragon, she wouldn't choose a rude partner.
--
Rumer had actually been here. It just took the fat, geeky boy a while to pluck up the courage to approach the clutch. He bowed. "Thank you for letting us on the Sands, Nayarath." She didn't -have- to, after all, although he was sure the weyrwoman had put a fair bit of pressure on her lifemate.
Then, well, which egg? He randomly approached one of the smaller ones...he didn't aspire to a ranking dragon. He selected the silvery-white glass egg as his first target, reaching to touch it -very- carefully, just the tips of his fingers to start with. Sure, he rationally knew they had to be strong enough to endure this, or it wouldn't be allowed. But it looked so fragile.

"Whew, glad that's done. Three down, one more to go." Sabine placed her hands on her hips and stepped back, surveying her handiwork for a moment. The floor to her weyr was swept, fresh rugs had been laid, and not a speck of dust remained anywhere on her furniture. It had only taken three candlemarks, Speaking of which...The girl's brow furrowed and her bottom lip slipped between her teeth. "This needs to be rearranged." And so the Candidate set forth to her new challenge. The dresser could move over here, and her furs could move closer to the bathing room, oh! and that small bookshelf could go on the opposite wall...
Candidates, would you like to come meet my pretty eggs? They are all waiting on the Sands for you….
"Twenty minutes, please. I'm almost done." So absorbed was she in her work, that Sabine didn't realize it was Nayarath she was hearing. Even if she had, there were still times when she forgot her station as a Candidate. This happened to be one of them. Philo chirped from a bowl on the dining table, blinking groggily but aware that a dragon was speaking to her bond. "Hush darling, go back to sleep. This needs to be finished first." The Green obeyed happily and curled around herself quite comfortably, asleep within moments. Several minutes passed, with only the sound of occasional grunts and hisses of pain breaking the silence. Shards, but that dresser was heavier than it looked! If the top of her foot bruised, she'd probably have to go check with one of the Healers. It would probably be sore for several days... Saya plopped down on her furs and pulled off her stocking, making a face at the already purpling foot.
The sudden hush of dragon wings made her look up in surprise. Was she dreaming, or- "Sabine! Sabine, where the shards are you?" She sighed, her hope thrown to the rocks once again. "In here, Kiasi." The familiar face of the Brownrider rushed in, her grey eyes dark with anger. "What the shells are you doing? The Touching has already started and you're several minutes late!" At hearing Touching, however, Sabine had leaped to her feet, replaced the stocking, and shoved her boots on. She tried to tame her mass of curls in the polished looking-metal, but Kiasi grabbed her wrist and dragged her onto Nikaith's old couch. Instead of the familiar Green, however, Brown Irth was crouched on the ledge, worry swirling through his eyes. Are you ready, Ki? "Yes, my love. Sabine, you first. Up front. By Faranth, I swear, if I didn't take care of you Candidates, none of the dragons would Impress."
The rider continued to mutter about sharding Candidates and their lack of respect, but Sabine was hardly paying any attention. This was her first ride on dragonback! Shards, she had lived here her whole life, but this was the first time she'd ever been in the saddle. Irth pushed off as soon as she was settled, and suddenly there was no ground beneath her. The wind was whipping her curls around, and the Hatchings entrance was coming up fast. Her fists clenched unconciously around the saddle leather, but she was regret filled her when the Brown came to a landing just outside the Sands. I won't go farther, it's not my place. The Candidate remained in the saddle, disbelief written across her features. It was over that quickly? Shards...
"Sabine! Get. Off. Don't keep the Weyrwoman waiting!" Kiasi all but pushed the younger girl out of the straps, dismounting easily behind her. Irth took back to the air and winged on to one of the ledges specifically designed for the dragons entering the Sands. Congratulations, Nayarath. He settled on an upper ledge, content to watch from the heights.
Sabine, on the other hand, hastily smoothed her curls (not that they were willing to be tamed) and straightened her shoulders, lifting her chin in a small subconcious show of confidence. "You can do this, you'll be fine." Nodding in affirmation, the Candidate moved forward, a pleasant smile on her face. The expression nearly faltered, however, when she noticed how many others had made it there before her. Ah well, make the best of it. She made her way around the outer ring of eggs first, working her way in. Each recieved a special word of encouragement and a comforting caress. Her attention caught, however, on the egg between the Gold's paws. That was the queen egg, wasn't it? The little one would have to wait for now, there were simply too many girls crowding the poor thing. No wonder Nayarath was watching so closely... After a few of the other females wandered away, Sabine lifted her head from the Shadow Egg and left it with a last lingering touch of her fingertips. As she neared the Weyrwoman and the new Senior Queen, the younger woman curtsied despite the fact she was in breeches and a corset. She was still female, and that was that.
"What a beautiful clutch, Nayarath, the best I have seen thus far. You've made Nyocia proud but of course, you must already know that." Her smile was secret, as if she was sharing a familiar joke with a close friend. "I congratulate you on such a magnificent Flight." She nodded in turn to Kora. "And congratulations to you as well. You'll do well, I'm sure of it." Sabine dipped into another curtsy, but returned her attention to the matter at hand. "I wonder if you might be so kind, however, as to let me say a few words to your precious jewel?"
