That was a first. Most people seemed to not even realize Nayarath had a sense of humor. "You think so?" He had mentioned that his mother was a rider, and he probably knew about dragons from that, but it was only one example. Dragons had a lot of variety, particularly in their sense of humor. Not that she minded someone that would get along with Nayarath.
"Yes, it would. It's been on my mind lately." Kora frowned a little. They had plenty of qualified riders, but they didn't want to deal with a shifting stream of weyrlings.
"Mm." She would like to say that he had a good chance of getting what he wanted in this case, but of course she had no evidence for it and kept her mouth shut. "At least you won't have to wait long to find out whether you do or not."
She chuckled. "Or her stomach does."

"Oh yes. Just a little on the dry side, for my tastes." He shrugged. "My mother's bonded, Firth, she's particularly spikey. Then again, they're getting older..." Brushing the thoughts away like cobwebs from the cupboard, he continued on. "I may take you up on the weryling master though, depending on events, of course." He had to believe in himself though, because he had nothing other than that to go on.
His mother Impressed, he would Impress too. That's what it came down to, he decided. At least, in the world of black and white it did, for Tacien.
"True. And with how eager Nayarath seems, it can't be far off." He laced his fingers together, clasped behind his neck as he glanced out over the scenery around them. "In my experience, most things aren't that attractive at night. But this weyr sure does defy that." He gave a small sideways glance, appreciating the scenery.
Good thing he didn't listen to Dacien's advice to get naked- she would've kicked him by now for sure.

It seemed a sad thing when dragons grew older. It would have been nice if they took after their fire-lizard cousins, who seemed never to age. Perhaps it was due to the human bond alone; they were so close to their rider that as he aged, so did the dragon. Kora shook the thoughts from her mind. "It's good to know I may have a future prospect for it." It would be a while before Tacien was available, but it was better than nothing.
The entire Weyr was eager for the hatching, but it was the dragons that had the most sense for such things. Nayarath would know first, and she was certainly excited about that. Dragging her thoughts from the Gold, Kora looked around. The moon shone on the lake, the stars were bright and clear in the crisp air. It was pretty. She smiled.
"That's the great thing about living on top of mountains, you're right up in the stars." Out of the dense trees that covered lower areas of the continent, up where the light could still touch. Kora liked that.
"I don't often take notice of it though," she added, her tone regretful. Her habit's followed her dragon's, and dragons were not night creatures in the slightest. When Nayarath was brooding Kora got more time for this, but still usually forgot about it. It was a strike of luck that Tacien had brought her out and reminded her.

"Is it really that hard to fill the position?" Tacien would think people would be jumping at a chance to get some sort of rank, but apparently not. He thought it over and decided that perhaps it was like taking care of children- everyone wanted the reputation, but didn't want to deal with the actual people involved. That must be it.
"There are few truly beautiful places left in the world," he murmured, admiring the moonlight laden scene. Perhaps he was just jaded from his travels, but he liked to think he was just experienced- not jaded. It made him shake his head to think that his brother would say a similar thing- in an entirely different manner.
"Sometimes you need to take a moment to think about it. This is what we're training for, right? This green beauty. It's our livelihood, but it's also... just stunning." So he sounded a little sentimental- so be it. He did have his moments.

"It wasn't, until we went through several and then people started to worry about it." It was an irritating thing. People ought to stick to what they were doing. Kora couldn't force someone to do the job though, it was one that required enthusiasm and dedication. The lives of a lot of new riders lay in the WeyrlingMaster's hands.
Kora smiled, pleased to have the Weyr in Tacien's list. She saw him shake his head and didn't know what that was about; maybe he was one of those men that felt silly when they found themselves complimenting things- she knew plenty. His following words made her doubt that.
"Yes," Kora agreed. Nature was generally viewed as secondary to their protecting humans, but the Holders wouldn't have much to go on without plants. Disregarding that purpose, the land around them was perfect simply for admiring. "And it's better with company."

"Superstitious lot, huh?" Tacien knew how that was. It was amazing what sort of things people could convince themselves of. He'd seen a lot of it as he traveled- even being refused service as he was an outsider. Superstition. It was simply astounding.
"Yes. Yes it is." He gave a half-side glance to appreciate the company for a second before stretching and turning. "I suppose we should head in, hm?" He smiled, geniuine and fleeting, as he shrugged. "If I don't let you get back to being a weyrwoman, I'm sure someone will hunt me down discreetly." Clasping his hands behind him, he took one last look at the scenery of the weyrbowl before giving a short, polite bow. "It was a pleasure to dine with you, Weyrwoman. Perhaps I'll join you another evening."
Tacien was assuming that she would be open to him joining her again- but you just never could tell. Women were finicky creatures- almost as finicky as men.

"I suppose." She might blame it more on vanity or feeling like they had enough work as a rider that they didn't want the extra burden. Some riders it could be superstition. Someone like J'ran that expected everything to go wrong.
Kora wouldn't have minded staying out, but it was getting late. "Yes, probably. It would be too bad if someone did that." And from the moment Tacien had suggested it, Nayarath had set to agreeing and telling Kora to come back- she was bored and lonely.
She smiled. "Thank you, I enjoyed your company." She wouldn't mind at all if he joined her again, although she suspected it would soon become much harder for him to find a free evening in which to do so. Dragonets were a lot of work, and that hatching would be upon them before they knew it.
That at least would prove how right or wrong Tacien was in making the bold assumption that he would join her again, but for once Kora wasn't too worried about what the outcome would be.
