Y'xem walked down the hall that was still too empty. He sighed and turned to walk down the steps to the Queen Weyr Block, or the middle deck of the weyr.
The Weyrwoman's Quarter's were still odd looking to him, it wasn't really that long ago that Nayarath had risen and Alduth, Y'xem's Bronze, had flown her. He stopped not but a few feet away from the door/opening of Kora's quarters.
He shook his head. Maybe it wouldn't be like most of the other Flights, not really weyrmates at all...but that was something to decide later.
He walked the last few feet and leaned against the frame of the door. " Good Mornin' Weyrwoman." He said, smiling pleasantly.

Kora looked up at Y'xem with mild surprise from her seat next to Nayarath. The dragon seemed very happy with her choice of mate and so she felt inclined to agree with Nayarath, but naturally wasn't sure. She didn't know Y'xem well... although that was her own fault. Kora didn't really know anyone well. Nayarath's opinion was probably the better one.
"Good morning," she replied, smiling back, although weakly. Lilac was on the Weyrwoman's shoulder and chirped drowsily to Y'xem too. It took a long time for the little Violet to wake up.

Y'xem slowly entered, but just to lean against the wall next to the door. " Been up to much lately? It's like I've been in a haze since the Flight." He couldn't stop himself from blushing at the rememberance of that night.
He looked at her with his amber eyes and smiled.
Humans have strange reactions to mating Mine. Why are you embarrassed about it? It is a wonderful dance. Alduth shook his large head as he landed gently on the ledge by Nayarath. He nuzzled her. Good Morning Weyrwoman.
Y'xem smiled at his Bronze as the dragon landed.

"Enough." Kora shrugged. Nayarath had eggs on the Sands now, they had to be up to watch them. One of them even looked like a queen egg... although smaller than what she expected of them. Smaller than Nayarath's egg at least. "We've been busy though." They may as well have been sleeping, seeing as neither rider or dragon had gotten much out of their being awake.
Nayarath returned the Bronze's nuzzle, purring softly to him while conveying Alduth's message to Kora. Do you greet the Weyrwoman but not your mate? She asked him playfully.

Y'xem smiled. " Yes, I would think so. Eggs on the Sands and the Weyr to run...I can't say I've been much help since I became Weyrleader." He shrugged.
" I really want to change that though."
Alduth rumbled and settled down next to the Gold. Oh, how terribly dreadful of me! He teased back. Ah, my Nayarath. It is going to be a great day is it not? He licked her muzzle playfully.
Y'xem walked over and sat on the bed. " Sorry, I just needed to be more comfortable than on the wall. Feel like a stroll or something Kora? Rooms close me in a lot, I prefer the outside or the air." He looked over at Alduth and smiled at that, then back at Kora

"Probably an idea." Kora glanced up at Nayarath, but the Gold was distracted by the Bronze.
It was, she rumbled softly. It will, yes. I like great days. Of course, soon she would have to get back to guarding her eggs and that was dull... ((why aren't they at the Sands in the first place? xP)) Nayarath figured she wasn't as attentive to them as most queens were, but couldn't stand sitting by them all the time either, exciting as it was to have eggs.
"I guess." Kora stood and then hovered uncertainly. "Where?"

Y'xem thought for a minute. " Well, since Nayarath probably has to get back to the eggs soon...and Alduth may accompany her, how about just around the Weyr. We can talk and walk." He smiled.
Great days are meant for great deeds. Perhaps helping to take care of our eggs is a great deed then? Alduth nuzzled his mate again.
Y'xem held out his arm, smiling at his dragon's crazy way of asking if Nayarath wanted his help. " Shall we then Weyrwoman Kora?"

"That would be fine." Kora gave her dragon a pat. Have fun with your eggs, dear heart.
Nayarath snorted. You have fun on your walk then, Mine. She scoffed. Next the Gold returned Alduth's nuzzle, stood, and flexed her wings. It probably is, although not a very exciting one.
Kora slipped her arm through Y'xem's and nodded.

Alduth stood with her. He wasn't really one to help much with eggs, but he hadn't had many chances before either. He stretched his neck out and surveyed the Weyr Bowl.
Y'xem wasn't going to lie to himself. He like physical contact with this woman, but that was not enough to build a relationship off of. Definately not enough to build a Weyrwoman Weyrleader relationship either.
He smiled at her as they began their walk. " So, what's been going through your head since the night of the Flight Kora?"
He really needed to get a feel for this woman, they were going to be spending a lot of time together at least until Nayarath flew again.

Nayarath nudged Alduth playfully. I'll go first, yes? I don't want my eggs getting upset by two dragons trying to land at the same time. Esecially great big ones like them. Alduth was nearly as big as Nayarath was.
Kora shrugged slightly, easily keeping pace with Y'xem as they started to walk. "Mostly thoughts about the eggs... we need more Candidates I think." And more dragons, at least Nayarath's hatching would provide that. Although it would be a couple years before they were very useful.

Y'xem nodded. " Yes. More dragons, more protectors. I don't know though, besides all that...I feel overwhelmed. Suddenly all this power and responsibility is on me, not that I don't have someone to help with it all." He smiled at her, putting his other hand over her's that was resting on his arm.
Alduth gurgled. Yes my lovely. Go on then, and I will follow you at a leisurely speed.
Y'xem still wasn't entirely sure why he was suddenly in this position, but maybe the dragons knew best. He sighed. " I just wish that we had had more than one Queen when Thread started falling again, maybe we would be almost caught up again."

"Mmm-hmm." Kora nodded slightly. "It's how I felt when Nayarath Impressed me..." She still felt that way really; at least now she had a Weyrleader to help out. And the 'power' hadn't come right then, but she knew that it would when the Gold Impressed and Kora still wasn't quite sure what to do with it all.
Nayarath bobbed her head and headed out of her weyr. This was one of those moments when the Gold would have rathered her weyr was higher up, like those of other dragons, so she could just leap off a ledge and be in the air. Now she had to work. The muscles of her hind legs and wings rippled as she pushed into the air. Three downstrokes and she was flying, although the flight didn't last long since it wasn't a far distance to the Sands.
"The Violet could clutch," Kora pointed out. She simply hadn't risen yet.

Alduth watched his mate with dark blue, whirling eyes. As he rose from the ledge and took a couple of strokes, he was off after her to the Sands quicker than he thought. He had to circle the above opening before going down to settle in with his mate and watch the eggs.
Y'xem nodded. " That she could, but more than likely not as large as the Golds can." He wasn't entirely sure about that, but they would be soon. He continued to walk, unsure what to say next.

Nayarath curled neatly around her clutch and began gently turning the eggs with her snout. It was probably about time for this anyways. I'm not quite sure what you can do here, she commented absently. She wasn't sure she wanted Alduth touching her eggs anyways. She might not hover protectively over them as some queens did, but she didn't like the idea of others touching her creation.
Of course, they were Alduth's creation too... but Nayarath figured they were more hers.
"Yeah, probably." Kora frowned slightly, thinking. The Violet should rise soon... hopefully she wouldn't lay eggs, if she really did, until after Nayarath's were gone. She wasn't quite sure what the Gold would think of another dragon sharing her nesting ground.

Alduth gurgled playfully at her. I can be here to protect you. Really just be here with you. He arched his neck as if scanning the area for danger.
Y'xem steered them toward a small little garden section that was being kept up on the Queen's Weyrs section of the Weyr. As they entered the little place he looked at Kora.
" I always end up here for some reason. It's such a nice place. Something you sort of don't expect in a Weyr." He leaned down and picked her a lovely little red flower. " Here."
He gestured toward the only bench in the spot as well. " Change of scenery, a lovely place to sit and talk...now that we are here." He smiled at her.

Nayarath rumbled. What could be out there, do you think? She gave her tail a flick as though she were nervous, playing along with her mate. She couldn't imagine what danger could be in the Hatching Sands unless a tunnelsnake decided to overcome the heat and dragons and try to eat one of the large dragon eggs.
"It is." She smiled and accepted the flower. It was a pretty little thing... Kora raised it to her face to sniff the bright petals. It smelled good too.
After sitting down on the bench, Kora nodded. Just what they could talk about, she wasn't sure. The welfare of the Weyr was always a subject but didn't seem fitting in this setting. She absently reached mentally out to Nayarath, the Gold seemed happy with Alduth. Not that there was any reason for her to not be. Kora twirled the flower Y'xem had given her between her fingers and looked up at him expectantly.

Y'xem always got nervous when a girl looked at him like that. He smiled to cover it up and sat down beside her. " This place is so peaceful that you can forget everything for a little while, and not many people know about it. That makes it quiet."
He absently reached over and rested his hand on hers. " So much to do to keep us all safe that sometimes, especially lately, I come here to think it over." He grasped her hand now, lightly. He didn't want to offend her, he really wanted to get to know her.
" Look, I..." He stopped. " Oh, I...can't even say something as simple as that to you." He shook his head and looked away from her.
Alduth continued to look around. Perhaps other dragons, jealous of my luck. His tail flicked in time with hers, playfully taunting her.

"Yes..." Kora took a deep breath through her nose, she really liked the smell of the garden best. "It's a good place for thinking." She didn't pull away as Y'xem touched, or more, now, lightly grasped it, her hand, it would never be anything she minded much.
"What?" She looked at him curiously. Kora knew she wasn't much for talking to, but it probably wasn't a good thing if there were things either of them simply couldn't say to one another.
Oh yes, they could be a danger. Nayarath rumbled a little louder. Lilac popped suddenly into the area and immediately dove curiously at the dragon's tails, chattering to anyone who thought to listen and wondering why the dragon's tails were twitching. In fact, Lilac was just beginning to think that she wanted that to stop, even if she had just gotten here.

Y'xem smiled at her a little weakly. " It's nothing bad. I..I just want to get to know you, better...a lot better." His eyes met hers.
He turned to face her more. He opened his mouth, then closed it, he couldn't think of anything else to say to her now. He blushed a little.
Alduth rumbled at Lilac. Come to see what we are doing little one? He kept moving his tail, watching the little violet fire-lizard in amusement.

Kora felt herself blush, the sudden burning in her cheeks and neck, and looked away, down at the little red flower. "I suppose you would," she replied weakly. It made her feel bad, of course Y'xem wanted to know her; she needed to know him... they couldn't work together as Weyrleader and Weyrwoman if they couldn't get to know each other and Kora wasn't quite sure how to bring that about.
Nayarath unconsciously wrapped her forepaws around her small queen egg, although she purred to the little Violet. Lilac was her friend. But the little queen only glanced briefly at Nayarath, chirped, and then turned to Alduth and began circling a bit above his head. She chattered loudly to him, mixing her thoughts of the Bronze with orders and bits of random conversation. Just whether he could get any of what she said out of her fast speech was questionable- Nayarath couldn't.
