Two more girls were wanting to touch her egg now. Nayarath inspected both and glanced at Kora, urging her to give the obvious answer. The second girl had complimented her more, and Kora. She had been around for a while hadn't she? Kora at least thought she recognized her.
"It's fine, both of you." Kora smiled and leaned against Nayarath's shoulder. The Gold was growing impatient. Kora had told her this would be a short and uneventful encounter and it was turning longer and more things were happening than expected. Irritating Candidates, Nayarath couldn't believe these were the people her fellow dragons had found for her clutch.

Was that boy and idiot? Beka's eyes went wide as she stepped back from the egg, half closer to the gold as though she would protect her from insane males. What girl would put up with that sort of thing? Beka would probably have fled instead of yelled, or frozen in shock. No one spoke like that, maybe the girl was used to being randomly told she was loved.
Insane jealousy flared, and Beka dropped her eyes to the ground to his the resentment. It wasn't the poor girl's fault, but to take a declaration of love like that, to throw it back in his face, she must have a lot of love to spare. How could some of these people have so much and act like it was something normal? It wasn't fair! Beka hadn't had any of it. Glancing up at the Gilt Egg, then up at the golden queen. Yes, someone like that would be good for a gold, Beka herself would be lucky to have a green even look at her, let alone a gold.
Biting her lips to fight the tears that threatened, Beka choked them down. She was crying far too much since being at the Weyr, it wasn't a bad place, and yet she was crying more than she had than with her father. Maybe it was just getting used to knowing they'd always had more, and when she didn't Impress, they would realise their mistake, send her back. Then, Beka would be back where she was used to, and would bear up to the beatings as she always had. That was the life she belonged in. Shooting one last envious look at the Meagan girl, Beka looked up at Nayarath, "I thank you for the honour of meeting your children-" Yes she'd actually felt comfortable and secure and ... Happy, for a few moments. Nayarath had given her that and for that, Beka was grateful. "I think I should probably go now, others need time with your eggs, and I am in the way." As I always have been. The words weren't spoken, but remained in her mind, dampening her mood further.

Meagen turned then and looked towards the girl Beka, and then at Kora. "I apologize for my actions, I will excuse myself now." She said as she bowed faintly and walked away from the eggs. She stopped near Beka and stared at the other girl. "Wanna go get something to eat with me?" She said softly. She said with a soft smile, her eyes hiding the true pain that was buried deep in the young woman's chest. (( Sorry had a break down today... but I needed to post.. ))

Gwenduinne curtseyed. "Thank you, ma'am," she said to the queen, then carefully approached the gold egg. Aware of the other girls, she kept her visit with it brief. She was sure that it wouldn't take a huge amount to give the hatchling within chance to 'read' what it needed to read. It felt warm and firm to the touch, and she lingered then stepped back, with visible reluctance. She was trying to be polite...
...but she wanted that dragon.
Rumer moved on to one of the other small eggs, one of the green ones. Nothing special seemed to be happening, "So," he said to it, softly, "You planning on coming out soon?" Which was silly, even ridiculous, but he couldn't quite resist it. He wondered if they could hear through the shell. He was still focusing on the small eggs what would contain the green and blue dragons.

Inolyn was getting bored, her time on the sands long over. Others had been late, arriving as she walked off and they dawdled around the eggs. As much as the eggs were a wondrous sight to behold her attention span was next to naught and a finger tapped boredly on the side of her chair. Her ears picked up the beat, her head gently drifting side to side with the beat as the lyrics flipped through her mind. One song in particular sprang to mind, it seemed so fitting...
By the Golden Egg of Faranth By the Weyrwoman, wise and true, Breed a flight of bronze and brown wings Breed a flight of green and blue. Breed riders, strong and daring, Dragon-loving, born as hatched, Flight of hundreds soaring skyward, Man and dragon fully matched.
Her voice stayed soft and low, she wasn't that bored or attention seeking to shout it across the grounds. Those sitting in the stands around her probably heard the song as her light voice floated over the notes. Her finger kept tapping the time, her singing voice that had made her place in the harper hall always made her spirits sore.

Damian To say it plainly, Damian felt stupid... Both his plan to win back his Meagen, and win the favor of the Weyrwoman and the queen dragon, had back fired on him leaving him on his hands and knees on the sands with nothing to show for it. But a badly wounded Ego and most likely horrible burns on his perfect, beautiful, skin. It was very clear that he hadn't thought things all the way through, before falling before Meagen in the sands. He could hear the sound of hissing fire-lizards as Meagen hissed at the others, clearly telling them to shut up.
Meagen's words were like fire being forced down his ears, and into his body, with the goal to catch his already broken heart on fire and leave it in ashes. Wherry brained was one thing he had never been called before and the person that he wanted to hear it least from was Meagen. Even though, at the moment, he did believe she was right in calling him such a name. What he had done was rather stupid and as he remained on the sands, trying to regain his composer, he wanted to hurt her for making him feel like more then a fool then he already did. He had not thought about what the queen would think when he fall before Meagen, but he did have a feeling that she didn't like what she saw. After all, this was a touching and in a touching you were suppose to meet the eggs, not make a love seen in front of everyone.
When Meagen said that she didn't care about him anymore, in rather colorful words, Damian felt like hitting her. How could she say that to him after he had fallen on to the burning sand and bagged for her back! He clenched his hands in the sand as he tried to calm himself. He could feel tears of pain and hatred build in his eyes again, as they had done once in public before, but he forced them back. He would no longer shad tears for this girl. She had hurt him one to many times and with her words and he would not shame himself with crying for her anymore. But her confession of hatred was not the last thing that she said to hurt him. No! She had to continue and say that he would embarrass and shame any dragon that he impress to, or at least that was what he got out of it.
Damian felt himself start to tremble as he could no longer hold back the silent tears that came to his eyes. Standing up, Damian did exactly what she said. Brushing off his clothing, and hands, and brushing away the tears that had came to his eyes, Damian gave the dragon queen a final bow and said, "Please forgive me great queen. I wasn't thinking..." And with that, Damian turned away from Meagen, the weyrwoman, and the queen dragon and turned his attention to the eggs. After touching all of the eggs. He quickly made his exit. He didn't think he would be able to stand the shame of being in the presents of the queen and her rider any longer, and he could no longer stand the presents of Meagen either. Though he did still have feeling for her. He was pissed off and he was afraid of what he might do to her if he didn't find away to calm himself soon.

Thank Faranth people were gradually leaving! Some had come in, bowed to Nayarath, touched the eggs quickly, and left. The Gold dragon liked them, and since they made Nayarath happy Kora figured she did too. Others were lingering. Nayarath didn't like them. This was an egg touching! Why were people singing? Why did some of them go sit on the stands? What was there to see here? The eggs were not hatching yet.
Nayarath glowered at all who lingered. The lover-boy had left, the girl he loved had left, other girls and boys were leaving. Why were some still here? Why don't you tell them to go? she asked Kora in a whining tone.
I'm not sure all have come yet. Kora looked around uncertainly. Lilac hopped over to Nayarath, chattering cheerfully as though she could provide all the comfort the dragon wanted.
Well, the ones who are here right now are done aren't they? The Gold raised her head in a sweeping motion, gesturing slightly to the lingerers.

This was boring, and Nayarath was eyeing the linguring candidates, if that wasn't an indication to leave she didn't know what was. Quite a number of candidates had already left, the queen to be left alone with her clutch again. Inolyn got up and headed for the entrance, maybe she could catch up with that attached girl and get all the juicy details! Harpers loved news...

Gwenduinne didn't even bother with any of the other eggs. As the gold became restless, the girl took the hint and turned to sweep from the Sands, ignoring any and all other candidates, especially the females.
They would Hatch soon. She hoped she would get the gold or nothing. She'd rather be left Standing with a chance to try again than bonded to a dragon she didn't want. It didn't occur to her that that was, perhaps, a bad attitude to step onto the Sands with.
In the mean time, Rumer had briefly touched a few of the other eggs, but as he saw other Candidates start to leave he frowned, then turned to follow. He didn't have the experience with dragons that would have told him Nayarath was restless...but the last thing this boy was was stupid.

Beka turned with shock as the girl approached her, eyes widening as she subconciously took a step back. What did she want? Why would the firelizard girl - as she was newly named by Beka - want to talk to her? She was well aware that the look she was giving the girl was one of a trapped feline, autmatically looking for a way to escape any conversation.
"What?" Surprise ruined the fear and Beka looked rather cautious as she thought about the girl's question. What could she want with Beka? "I-um... O-okay, um, s-sure I g-guess." Even as she stepped slightly closer to Meagan, Beka's cautious, suspicious look didn't relax, biting her lip to stop her saying something stupid.
Why had the fire lizard girl singled her out? There were plenty of more... Well, plenty of other girls she could have asked, why her of all people? "Why?" Oops, she hadn't meant to say that aloud. Shards. Instantly ducking away from her as though expecting a blow for the unexpected question, Beka didn't move closer again for a long moment.

Meagen bit the inside of her cheek as she stared at Beka weakly. "Thanks..." She said lightly as she walked with the other young woman. She stopped as the question arose, her head turning. "Why? Because... you're new like me... and I can tell someone that needs a friend... I am a lot like that..." She whispered softly as she smiled weakly. Amber brown eyes staring at the other young woman.
"Would you like to pet one of my firelizards?" She asked as she stared at the other young woman, as she walked out of the hatching grounds.
(( Would you mind makinng a thread in one of the halls, to continue this? XD ))

Sabine nodded in thanks and crouched before the queen egg. "Hello there, beautiful." Reverent fingers caressed the shell, careful not to put too many of her aspirations on the dragon inside. "The hopes of an entire Weyr rest on your shoulders, but I know you'll choose the one best suited to you." The Candidate continued to croon assurances and acclaimations upon the creature inside, but she knew her moment was over the minute Nayarath started to fidget. She stood with a smile and curtsied once again. "Thank you for this opportunity golden one, and thank you Weyrwoman." Saya curtsied again and turned to make room for more of the female Candidates. Were there really so many vying for the queen? This could get nasty if someone got a little too jealous.
Banishing the thought- who would dare hurt the bond of a queen? - she waved to those she recognized and even up to Kiasi. It would be a grand day when these eggs Hatched, and all the Weyr would be watching, holding their breath for the future riders. Would this girl Impress that Green, or would that boy standing nervously over in the corner? "Ah, but only the dragons knew who they would take, and it would always be so." Shaking her at the familiar response, Sabine banished all thoughts of her mother with the thought of what would be, not what had been. "Thank Faranth she had a long Flight..." The Candidate stretched and exited the Sands, intent on finishing the project she had started in her room.
