After a moments thought, actually a little wine might be nice. In the least it could ease off the tension of having to accept praise on behalf of her dragon from the entire Weyr. These eggs had already caused her more grief then she ever would have hoped. Once they had hatched, hopefully healthy, and impressed Inolyn personally would be more happy then anyone.
Rising her cup up to B'can, "A toast? To our dragons, and may their hatchlings be strong and healthy." Draining her cup she knew she would be stuck within these stoney walls for the next few months while her dragon brooded and fussed over her eggs. Till those eggs hatched she was bearly a dragonrider anymore. Maybe she would be inspired to write a new song, but they would see.
"So lets play their game, what do you think will hatch first?"

B'can hrmed. "I'm going to stick my nose out, despite the last violet-tan clutch, and guess a brown."
There might be bronzes, more likely nothing larger than a tan. B'can had always rather liked browns, although not as much as tans, of course.
He thought back to how nervous he had been. He had been absolutely terrified that he would Impress a green. Nothing wrong with greens, except that they were female, and he did not want a female in his head all the time. No doubt Inolyn felt different.
Actually, he would bet there were girls amongst the Candidates who held the same worry in reverse...worried they might bond a blue and have to put up with a *guy* in their head. He laughed a bit. "But we'll see. Might be a barred, too."

"If there isnt at least one bronze in the clutch, I don't know my own dragon." It would be just like Jorindath to keep everyone guessing with a few surprises. She had done it since she first hatched and if she wasnt thought to be a queen she would fight Thread in the upper wings with the boys if she could. Her flaming violet was such a magnificent sight...
Absent mindedly she filled her cup with wine again, sipping it this time. Really she knew she shouldn't, despite some harpers being noctoriously experts on it, but she was a queenrider. She had to set the example and keep a level head. B'can was quite handsome though, it made it hard anyway...

B'can curled a hand around his own glass. "We can hope so. I'd expect a couple of tans instead, personally...but then, not much difference between a tan and a bronze. Especially when the tan's name is Apolloth."
B'can added, musing, "He'll be insufferable if there's a violet. And I doubt he'll forget. Dragons do occasionally remember things. Usually the things we most wish they wouldn't."
He did have a point, for all that he wished he didn't. Apolloth did remember the things that made him even more smug and arrogant than he had been in the moment of his Hatching. And that had been pretty smug.
"All I care about, personally, is that they're healthy, all Hatch and all Impress. We have some good Candidates, but I'd like to see more boys."

"That's the most important thng." Inolyn said with a nod. It never really mattered how many there were as long as they were healthy ad strong. And impressed, it did little good to let the jump between.
"I don't doubt that they will be healthy. A runt or two, maybe a dud are to be expected. Its only her first clutch, we cant expect too much from Jorindath." Kelth had had two duds in her first clutch, and Nayarath had one in her last. There would be no queen either, the large violet just did't seemed the kind of dragon to lay them.
"Yes, I would like to see more candidates. D'mas has been working on new wings and fighting techniques, but from what I've heard it'll work better when we are at full fighting force."

B'can nodded. "It's her first clutch. They tend to be smaller anyway...I actually think eighteen is a *lot* for a maiden violet. And sadly, a dud or two is to be expected."
He did wonder if some of those duds were whites, unable to break their shells. Only two whites had hatched healthy in the entire history of Pern...the legendary Ruth and now Tyrth. And Tyrth had only hatched because another egg had practically landed on his, helping him crack it open.
"I think we have enough queens. If we had enough fighting dragons, it would be time to think of splitting the Weyr, but we don't." B'can let his breath out. "I'm half hoping the skies prove fertile, just to give us a few more dragons. But glad the barreds didn't. Some of them are as bad as greens."
