Steven followed gilza. he wondered about how long it took to get to the store-rooms, about the difference in their hieghts, about anything to do while just following. his chore section today had to do healer duty. he thought his job wasnt too bad, but a bit boring. steven had to count up the stuff in the store-rooms and write it down, and tell nixsha what was needed, he though that's what it was...
((ooc: she did leave there, right? i diidnt want to make a charrie not mine do something ^_^ did i do okay??? or should i get rid of the first part?))

((...cue long Sparrow post))
Gilza moved with her usual bouncy, quick gait, easily staying ahead of Steven despite the different the difference in the length of their legs. Sometime maybe she would catch up to him, he wasn't horribly tall... and probably wasn't much older than her either. Gilza had just been a bit unlucky with her growth spurt as of yet.
"So, what's it like being a Candidate?" He was a quiet one, but she would break that. Chores like this were so boring when she didn't get to talk to someone. She should get a fire-lizard, then she'd always have someone to talk to. "I think it might be more fun than my job. We both have lots of chores, but you're going to ride a dragon someday. Are you kind of scared about that? They sure do get big; I'm already a little scared of them. But I guess it's alright, since I don't think I'll ever get to Impress. What was it like being Searched? Did you have to ride a dragon here? Was that fun?"
She could go on, but they had reached the stairs down into the storage rooms and it was hard to talk when she was bounding down those. The papers for marking inventory threatened to leap from her arms with every step, but it wasn't long before she reached the bottom with all intact. "Come on, the healing supplies are right over here."

Steven was surprised when gilza started talking to him, but he didnt mind. more interesting than filling his head with endless nonsense to keep busy. he was startled that the papers never fell out of her arms as she bounced down the flight of stairs. she talked quite fast... "its pretty cool to be a candidate, although the chores are a hassel, but, being holder-bred, im up to alot more than this chore! not that i dont like it, its actually a good one. sure, i have the chance to impress, but i might not." he decided, if he didnt impress, he'd stick around the weyr. it was much more interesting than being picked on by his older siblings. " the Searching was awesome! i mean, i was just walking along to check some crops, late as it is in the summer, when the dragonrider showed up. all ithought was 'wow- a real dragonrider's here!' it didnt occur to me at first that they were searching ME!" steven laughed, slowing down a bit so gilza could hear him, rather than her bouncing around and missing every other word. "there're quite alot of things in here!" he exclaimed as they walked into the healing supplies area. "i do hope i'll impress, anyway, but it really isnt the end of my world if i dont." unlike his sister miri, who couldnt think beyond impressing, if she failed to do so. he stared around at all the supplies. 'maybe this isnt as easy as i though it was... i have to record all this?!' he thought....

"Holder bred, really? Well, I guess I kind of was, but my parents came to Nyocia right after it was built. I've been here a long time." Long enough to not really remember living outside the Weyr, anyways. But her mother promised her they were from a different Hold, though she tended to forget the name. "Nixsha always says that if I got Searched I'd Impress a Green for sure. Everyone else always says you never know for sure what a person will Impress though, so I don't think she's totally right. I do like Greens though." She trailed off when she noticed Steven gawking at all the supplies. Trotting over to him, she struggled a sheet of paper in between a couple fingers instead of in the rest of the pile and then dug a stick of charcoal from her pocket to hand over with it. "Here you go, you can count those jars of fellis juice." They were on a shelf more at eye level with him, anyways. "I've been hearing people complaining we might be a little low on that, and with a Hatching coming up that's probably not good." People generally got hurt at Hatchings. Gilsa crouched in front of a row of large buckets of numbweed, lined up along the floor. "I think I grabbed too much paper, this is a pain." It didn't take much to tally up a few supplies... but she had other uses for paper. "Do you think you might get hurt at the Hatching? I hope you don't." He seemed nice, nice people shouldn't get hurt. ((If you don't feel like making up numbers, feel free to just say he counted them, maybe some sort of reference to seeing a lot or a few, etc. ))

" i do hope i dont get hurt." he found his voice again, and blinked. he realized he had been staring at the shelves mutely. gilza had given him some papers- more, she'd slipped 'em into his loose grip- so he might as well do his chore! e surveyed the first shelf of healer supplies to find the right thing, and, finding the section, began to count. now and then he marked his number down so he wouldnt get confused. that was one of his few problems- he could count very well, and knew all his numbers, but once he got past, for example, 199, he might loose track. Steven then noticed he'd gone all quiet again. "sorry, i have trouble keeping track of large numbers when they go up" he chuckled at his flaw. he tallyed it up. for a while he was silent, after he told her the numbers for the first shelf, and wrote it down, as he counted the numbers of fellis on the shelf above the first. "there seems to be a bit of a shortage here!" Steven sid to gilza, gesturing for her to come over and take a look. on the second shelf, there was a medium-sized space between the last of the fellis juice jars and the next set of healer items.

Gilsa laughed. "Well, that's why you tally them!" Much easier than counting as you found the items, just mark them down and worry about the total afterwords. She was quiet- true to her advice- as she counted the numbweed and Steven dealt with his chore. She bounced to her feet again when he gestured towards the fellis juice.
"Well, that's what they thought, I guess." She had to back up a few steps and stand on tip toe, but she could see the gap well enough. "Not as bad as Nixsha made it sound though. She does love to exagerrate." That was usually Tirasha's line, but Gilsa couldn't help but notice it as well, and why not quote her elders?
"But... if you've finished with those, just hold on to that paper and you can count those bottles of cough medicine then. We shouldn't be low on those though." Fall was on its way though... and of course winter would follow. They had to make sure stores were ready for then. Winter weather might be mild in most of the southern continent, but they were on top of an extinct volcano.

Steven hid a grimace. well, you really didn't think that was all that has to be done?! He asked himself. "Yeah, it wouldn't be good to be low on something like that!" he remarked, turning back to the shelves to find the one for the cough medicine. finding it, he realized it was a tiny bit above even his eye level, and stepped onto a footstool that he found. "If some of the stuff is above my head, how are anyone shorter supposed to count things up? i mean, footstools work okay, but..." while he was talking he made his tally. four marks verticle and one for the fifth across the rest diagonal...

Gilsa shrugged. "Nixsha and Tirasha have fire-lizards, and I think they help them. Everyone else is usually tall enough." Right now she was an exception, but had big plans to grow. Unlike the aforementioned Healers, Gilsa still had plenty of years to do so.
"Do you think this is pretty-much the most boring job ever? It's less smelly than mixing numbweed paste, but still... so boring." Gilsa's tally marks were starting to swivel and wander, forming into other shapes as she marked them. Frowning, she went back over the row. "I like just running around getting stuff for people more than this." As an apprentice Healer, that was mostly what she did. She was too little and wild to be much good at healing still.

Steve laughed- not loudly, more like a chuckle, but deeper. he blinked at how his laugh sounded. 'hope its not what i think it is...' he thought. looking back at gilza, e grinned. "i can tell you'd rather be running around!" he'd noticed her bouncing around and restlessness as she counted. "it's kinda boring, but much beter than what i think my other friends are doing- they have kitchen duty. and my sister, Miria, has to sit around till someone gives her a job, so i actually sort-of like this." he remarked to her. Gilza was very short, but he was sure she wasn't gonna stay that way- she was around the same age as him! Steven looked at her tally sheet over his shoulder as he stretched to peek at the back row. "hey- those squigles, from here at least, look like dragons!" he commented. "did you do that on purpose?" he asked the healer apprentice.

"Kitchen duty's got food," Gilsa pointed out with a grin. "The Headwoman doesn't ever make anyone do a chore without giving them some snacks after." Despite working for the Healers, she had been given enough quick jobs in the kitchens in her time here. That was what people did at Weyrs: worked. "Is your sister a Candidate too?" How fun!
Gilsa flattened her paper against her chest when Steven mentioned it, and then felt her face going red for reacting like that. He hadn't even been saying anything mean. "I- uh... not really. But I like to draw." Sometimes she did without even realizing it until afterward- this had been one of those cases.

" cool! i like drawings, but i've got no real talent." he chuckled at his own non-ability in uch an interesting thing. "but drawings help in healer duties too, right? i mean, you can sketch something important, or something... anyways, i envy you.... hey- there's a small gap here- but notoo much of one- i dont think thats too much of a big deal, but ill mark it down here..." the tally was taking up quite a bit of his papers.

"Well, I don't know. I've never had to draw anything in there, and I don't think I've seen anyone else." Maybe it could be useful though... just none of the other Healers could do it. She didn't know.
Gilsa glanced up when Steven mentioned the gap, but then shrugged. "That's normal. It's not like we have to keep every shelf totally full." They didn't usually restock cough medicine until cough season, anyways. "Check those crates of needlethorns and then I think we'll be about done. We usually do inventory in little bits, otherwise I think my eyeballs would fall out from too much counting." She grinned. Wouldn't Nixsha have fun with that.
Gilsa trotted over to check their supplies of antiseptics, but overall it was looking like the only thing they were low on was fellis juice.
