Meril and me -Open-

Steven looked around the barracks. being the youngest child in a large family, he had never had a large room at his home hold, so this room was quite an improvement, although he was sharing it with three others. Meril popped out of *between* looking pleased, and scolded her human. Steven laughed, then rubbed her eye ridges to calm down the green fire lizard. Meril burbled a query to him, and Steven was thinking the same thing: What to do now?! the Search Rider had not stayed long enough for Steven to ask the twenty questions that were spinning around in his head. Steven had had only enough time to grab his bag before the dragonrider had pulled him onto the back of his Green. This bag he dropped onto the nearest unoccupied bed in the room, then sat heavily onto it, the wooden joints creaking. "i wonder where Miri is... i know she was searched three sevendays ago, but what's she doing? do you know, Meril?" He asked the diminuative flitt that was sprawled on his shoulder. Meril chirped, then swung her head back and forth, her eyes a bright green. "then we might as well go try and find her, she cannot possible be TOO far away!" Steven jumped up from the bed, petting his carry sack to make sure it was safe on the bed. then he sped out of the room and into the hall that connected the barracks together, his long, wavy auburn hair whipping out behind him...

Raiin skipped round the many bends in the candidate barracks, humming to herself as she was doing so. Realising she was just about to skip round the ‘Crash’ corner, which her siblings and her had so fondly named, she stopped abruptly. Still managing to crash into the on-coming candidate.

“Oops! Sorry, should’ve known that would happen.” She was staring into the golden-brown eyes of a newbie. “Oh. Hi. I’m guessing you’re new here. I’m Raiin, and you are? Hey you have a flit!”

Raiin suddenly realised she was talking very fast, therefore the newbie probably hadn’t heard one word of what she said. He was a he after all.

“Again, sorry, talking a bit fast, I have a habit of doing that. If you didn’t catch my question it was, what’s your name?”

Steven was looking at Meril on his shoulder, when a brown-haired girl was coming towards him. she stopped suddenly, but he couldn't stop himself fast enough, and theye crashed into each other. he looked at her, both of them on the floor, and noticed her eyes were green, like his firelizard. the girl began to talk at high-speed. his brain only registered that she was speaking- the rest was a blur. Steven blinked at her, and was about to open his mouth to tell her he had not heard a singleword of what she said, when she looked embarrased, and spoke again, this time alot slower. she asked him what his name was. "Hi, i'm Steven. i was going to ask you the same thing. you do speak fast- did you mention my firelizard a second ago?" He told the girl his name, but he wasn't sure he had actually heard the part about the flitt. she smiled at him. and he found himself smiling back. which was unusual, seeing as he was normally so shy...

“Yeah, I did. I’m Raiin by the way, in case you didn’t catch it the first time. I think she’s very pretty.... though I do with most flits....but still a complement to the lady nonetheless! ” Raiin inclined her head in a semi-bow towards the little flying reptile.

She got to her feet, only to realise she was dwarfed by another person at the weyr. And he was younger than her, that was noticeable. He was probably about as young as Grei.

“Well, probably none of my business but considering I’m still in your way.... What were you coming ‘round Crash Corner for?”

"crash corner?" Steven laughed out loud. "who named it so well? to answer your question, i'm looking for my adopted sister Miri. she's been here a few sevendays already, but i just got here. Meril is a pretty flitt, aren't you, darling?" Steven answered her question, petting a crooning Meril. the pale green flitt burbled at raiin's half-bow, ducking her own head in imitation. steven laughed "she's also very intelligent.."...

"Don't make me jealous..." Raiin said with mock severity. "Me and my brother named it... we didn't know it would stick so well.... I swear I heard one of the other candi's say it the other day....."

And only then did it click....

"Wait.... Miri? Ohhhhhh.... I think she's down doing chores... hehe... but she might've ditched by now seeing as Transiit was in tha group too.... Don't worry, I'm sure Miri will tell you who Transiit is later.... *shudder* I wish you good luck for THAT conversation...."

Raiin found herself smiling at the younger boy... he would definately get along with Grei....

"Well, If you would like a tourguide for round the weyr... I would be happy to oblige...."She gave a deep, mocking bow.... which only made her seem VERY much smaller than Steven.

Steven laughed "that's what normally happens when you give a good name to something" he said. "hey, if Meril actually manages to keep her next clutch alive- you'll be the first one i give an egg to!" he promised raiin. Rain was nice. "yeah, that'd be cool if you give me a tour!" Steven exclaimed. Raiin had given a mock-bow, and he noticed how small the older girl was than him. "you know, i dotn usually tell people, but miri's actually stronger than me- this's all show- and my height is annoying- less tamina and stuff." steven told her. he walked alongside her for a few moments. "i get lost easily, too- that's how i ended up here, looking for miri, but i took a wrong turn somewhere along there..." steven thought about what raiin had said before. about someone named Transiit and about Miri... he hoped miri was okay- though his sister was both older and stronger than him, he was much better with words....

Raiin cocked her head to the side as she studied the boy. He seemed nice... a little unsure of himself when he talked about his sister though....

Maybe he's worried about her.... more than likely.... it seems like they were close.... "I think Miri's getting used to being round here.... she had a bit of a tough first sevenday.... but after that she kinda just got on with stuff.... She's making more friends now... with being hold-bred and all she kinda had a rough start at that but now she'd doing well... 'Cos she's been here for a while you probably get to skip that part."

Raiin saw one of the other candi's she knew was in Miri's group and went to ask where Miri was. She hopped Steven didn't here that some of the others were still calling her the wimpy holdbred girl. That might've worried him. She came back shortly and skipped up to Steven.

"Miri's out at the lake with Jekel. Whom you will get to know and probably like... he seems to get on with Miri at any rate. I have to go and find my brother 'cos he's being annoying again. But the lake is in that direction." Raiin pointed in the general direction of the lake with a flourish.

"Sorry that I can't come with... but I'll see ya at dinner or something!!! BYE!" And Raiin was away then, skipping off to go try and not let her brother kill somebody... or get killed by somebody. ;D
