Miri walked quickly down the hall, looking around, down other halls branching out from the one she was in. the girl was looking for the bathing pools. " i MUST have taken a wrong turn soewhere back there! or maybe its farther on? i should have asked for a map!" Miri kept walking on the off chance she might see the warm pools. sniffing the heavy air, Miri realized that it was humid, and turned down a hall to her left from which the heat mixed with water was coming from. as soon as she stepped through the roughly-cut doorway, Miri shuffled back as quickly. "this is the HATCHING GROUNDS!" she exclaimed, then held her hand over her mouth for fear jorindath might hear. "if the mother dragon's in here, she might not be happy about ME being here..." Miri worried when she recalled what some other candidates had mentioned of the dragon when THEY had snuck to see the eggs. Miri's eyes were drawn to the eggs, though all appeared the same in color and pattern. then she heard a snort from a dragon and retreated back down the hall to her room. "woah. i wonder if there will be a violet queen in the clutch..." Miri shook her head, and shakily left her room to find the candidates master to find out her chores for today, and to get a map!.....

Miri was cleaning the barracks with some other candidates, as her chore section had to do that today. she'd been wondering about something, and she asked aloud in the hall, "i wonder what dragon colors will hatch from jorindath's eggs?!" Miri then realized she had spoken aloud, and blushed a deep crimson. she hoped no one had heard her. Yeah right- the hall echoed like a tunnel! anyone within the candidate barracks, maybe even those right outside, would have heard her! she picked up a discarded blanket off the floor, and swung it onto the bed nearest her.

"I wonder what dragon colours will hatch from Jorindaths eggs?" That question echoed through the barracks. Transiit stared at the questioner, she had blushed a deep scarlet.
"Are you serious? You dont know what colours could hatch out of a Voilet-Tan clutch. All the new colours of course are the most likely. At least you know what the new colours are. Violet, tan, sky, teal, charcoal and barred. Wait. You did know the new colours, right?"
Did this girl live on another planet.
Seriously. She hadn't heard yet.

Jekel was staring at Transiit.
She didn't have to be that mean. I mean sure that girl is really unobservant, but that's just plain mean.
"Hey, I'm Jekel. And that is Transiit. She's mean to everyone. Don't take it too personally." He whispered that in an undertone to the girl. "Well, when I first came here,

"When I first came here, I accidentally asked B'can, man, was that embarrassing, although he was really nice about it. Unlike Transiit here. Eventually you will get used to Transiit, you have have to. Um, so you know my name and Transiit's name and I still don't know yours"

"hi" Miri said, still blushing, "my name's Miri... i'm hold-bred, you see, and i just got here this sevenday!" Miri felt the need to explain why she didn't know. "but i was mostly wondering which of the colors would hatch from her 18 eggs?" she said. Jekel was nice, alot nicer than Transiit in any case, but as jekel said- she'd have to get used to her. Miri smiled, and piked up someone's towel from the floor, hanging it up to dry the wet thing. "hey, transiit, i noticed the wolf- he your's? i've got a feline kit, her name's Ava." Miri spoke to the red-headed girl, trying to be friendly.

Jekel winced. Everybody knew that Grrym Wynter wasn't a wolf, he's just a white canine. If you think he's a wolf then Transiit has another opportunity to show her superiority, as it was her family's aim to make the two look alike.
Oh no. Don't do it Transiit. Don't do it. And here we go.........

Jekel rolled his eyes as Transiit says exactly what he thought.

Miri blushed again. here she had thought she was very observent, and now this Transiit had one-up'd her again. Miri was NOT used to not being right, so she tried to continue making friends with Jekel, mostly ignoring Transiit (of course, prob the wrong thing for her to do, but her pride's insulted ^_^) Miri smiled agin at Jekel. "well, whether Grrym's a wolf or not, hes a handsome animal all the same. do you have a pet, Jekel?" She said. Ava stalked up to Miri, rubbing her apple-shaped head against her leg. the feline kit looked like a wildcat, but Miri had had Ava since before the kit could walk.

"Yes, I do actually," he said looking around him, "he should be here........somewhere. But he disappeared when I went to talk to you and Transiit. But..... Ah here he is." Jekel said this as he heard the tell-tale thumping of his Kagen's walk. "This is Umber, he is a flame Kagen." He said proudly. "He is pretty good company when your bored, but when you are doing chores, he normally tries to get away as fast as possible. And beware Umber is very energetic." Jekel said this last bit quickly as the Kagen ran up to her really fast and almost bowled her over.

Transiit doesn't like being ignored. But found the little Kagen reasonably adorable. She had seen him a few times but didn't really do much about getting a closer look, as he was with Jekel. She also didn't think much of his statement, 'He disappeared when I came to talk to you and Transiit.' Implying that he didn't like her so he disappeared.
Well I am pretty sure that Kagen likes me as he didn't just try to bowl me over.

Miri almost got pushed over by the excited little kagen smiling, she pulled the cute animal away from her, to see him beter. the flame kagen squirmed in her hands, and she let it go cautiosly. not that she didnt like the kagen, but she did not enjoy being pushed over by something half her size. "he's cute! and you are definately right- very enegetic!" Miri laughed as Umber hopped around her. she reached down to ruffle his fluffy fur. " and hes so soft, if he could sit still, i'd probably try and pet him!" Umber was jumping up and down like someone had given him sugar. " he always this hyper?" Miri asked Jekel curiously, still chuckling. Ava fluffed up her long tail and Mrrrowed at Umber. the kagen looked surprised, and then proceded to chase a confused Ava around. Transiit looked annoyed again, and Miri wondered. "jekel" She whispered "i dont think Transiit liked how you insinuated that she was why Umber dissapeared. just saying..." Miri murmered to him, looking at the animals playing on the floor instead of at Transiit, so the girl wouldnt know she was talking about her. Although Transiit was moody and had been a bit abrupt, it was nothing compared to the way her older silbings had treated her, and Transiit was a vast improvement on them. Miri began to think she might begin to get alogn with Transiit....

Jekel looked at Transiit suprised that she had thought that he thought she was the reason Umber left. I fact Jekel was surprised he had even left at all. He normally just hangs around. Umber was jumping around very excitedly. So Jekel gave him a stern look and sent him scolding thoughts. Umber immediately calmed down, he knew when Jekel was serious and when Jekel didn't care that much. "Transiit just so you know, I didn't think it was you who scared Umber off. He wasn't actually scared, and I was a bit surprised when he left at all." He didn't really want Transiit to hate him or Umber, but he suspected the former was already too late.

Transiit didn't really care if Jekel was sorry or not, she just wanted to take a closer look at the Kagen, and this girl wasn't extremely bad, even with her unobservantness, but she was still offended.

Miri held back a smile. she was happy Jekel had opologising, though she was sure Transiit did not care too much. but by the look on the other girl's face told her Transiit was still ofended. Miri picked up the Kagen, who had stopped jumping around, and tickled Umber, then held the flame kagen out to Transiit. Miri smiled, and put Umber into her hands. Miri might have appeared unobservent, but she knew what makes people happy. Jekel stared at her, but Miri didn't care. Maybe if she was friendly to Transiit, they would get along better. "i think he likes his ears scratched." She suggested to Transiit, who still stood there, palms up, with Umber sitting on her hands...

Jekel saw that Transiit was still offended but he didn't see why so he didn't that he should anything else to help Transiit, or be nice to her. So when Miri picked up Umber he stared at her, not because he was angry or anything like that but because she was so persistent in trying to get Transiit to like her which is what he assumed she was doing. He was sure Umber like all the attention. Typical Umber.
"Yeah, um, Transiit he likes his ears scratched but likes his tummy rubbed even better. But whatever you do, do so soon because he doesn't like being held and he is getting restless, although a good rub distracts him."

Transiit was astounded.
This girl is too nice. I don't see why she bothers to do things for other people it's too much effort. And out of everyone to be nice to, who actually might want it or care, she decides to be nice to me who doesn't want any friends who aren't perfect in my standards. Which means, she has to be mean, and observant, and less nice than her, definately less nice. *Sigh*
None the less, Transiit did start rubbing the Kagens belly, but didn't say anything to the all-to-nice Miri.

Miri realized she was trying too hard, when Transiit did not speak, but rubbed the tummy of Umber. That's weird, i am usually so mean... what has my world come to?! "you know, i just noticed we've been standing in one place for so long, and our group has moved on! i guess thatmeans we're done for the day, so maybe you guys'll come with me to the lake? its pretty warm outside!" Miri said, to create a pause in the conversation, so she could think about why she was acting so... nice. she looked at Transiit "and i just realized i've been trying a bit hard to make friends, which is odd for me, but im sure we could all use a swim!" Miri turned aroun and skipped off, Ava padding after her.

Transiit dumped Umber into Jekel's arms. "I am so not going to the lake with you guys," and she stalked off to her room. Probably to go meet Iindi. Her best friend. Her only friend. Jekel sighed heavily and jogged to catch up with Miri and the kit. "Er, Transiit ditched, I don't think she likes you much. I mean, I already know she doesn't like me. Well, I 'spose it's just the two of us. So, um, when did you get your feline? Her name's Ava, right?

Miri looked behind her briefly, and saw Jekel coming.
"i knew she might, that's why i strated walking. yeah, my kit's name's Ava- she looks wild, but i've never been sure whether or not she really is. when i was really little, me and my brother steven went adventuring, and ended up stumbling upon a litter of abandoned feline kits. all but Ava were dead, and i nursed her back to health. she's been with me ever since, and once in a while, its almost as if we can feel what emotions the other has. its pretty neat, but nothing compared to haveing something like a kagen, or a firelizard! Steven has his little green and no matter how many times i ask him to tell me what it's like, he can never find the right words. Ava's good enough a pet for me, though! i can't wait till the hatching!" Miri said, laughing at her attempts to make steven tell her something unexplainable. she walked next to jekel. "how'd you get Umber?" she wanted to get to know Jekel better- he was much nicer than Transiit had been, and so far, the nicest she'd met. Miri looked forward to the cool waters of the lake they were heading to. ''''Transiit doesnt seem to like anyone too much...''''

"Well I found Umber, not the same way as you though. Um, I was just walking 'round through the trees near our cot and I just saw him thumping around. Obviously he had got away from his mother. Then he fell over on his face, and I grabbed him up and tucked him in my pocket. It was only after that my sister told me about Kagens and that these are the rowdiest of the lot." *sigh* Jekel studied the girls face, she was interesting. "And you said your brother has a firelizard. Wow. I really want one, but until then, this little will keep me occupied. Ava's cute. Er." Jekel had run out of things to talk about.

although it seemed that both had run out of things to say, it was fine, because they were at the exit, and sprwled in front of them was the crystal-clear lake. just seeing it made Miri want to jump in, so she grabbed Jekel's hand, and pulled him along, running with him towards the lake. "woo!" Miri let go of Jekel's hand and leaped into the lake fully-dressed. she didn't care-- the water was great! "come one in, its just the right temperature!" Miri called to Jekel, who was still standing near the bank of the lake. from a distance, Miri thought she heard someone shouting her name. pushing herself onto the bank, she squinted in the harsh sunlight. running towards them was her younger brother, Steven, a scolding Meril on his shoulder.
(OOC: you mind if my other charrie joins in?)

Miri waved at steven "over here!" she called to the red-haired boy. Steven loped over to them. "hey." he said to jekel, then leaned down to hug Miri. "steven- i'm wet-- now you are too!" she laughed. "this is Jekel".....

"Er, Hi." Jekel was getting nervous now. Too many people at the same time, AND he didn't have anything to say. "Um, so you are Steven?"

Umber was wriggling out of his arms trying to get to the water, he kicked Jekel really hard and jumped..............right onto Miri's face.

He was hoping Steven and Miri wouldn't care very much, although Steven didn't look extremely scary. But you never know........
Jekel reached down to grab Umber back out of the water........ and fell in.........

miri was smiling at steven when Umber tumbled out of jekel'ss arms and fell onto her face.
steven burst out laughing as miri grimiced, trying in vain to pull the kagen off of her face. Umber was clinging to her hair, and as jekel reached down to help untangle her, he slipped, falling into the water head-first. steven just kept on laughing, and lifted Umber onto dry land. <wow> miri thought. <within a few short sevendays, my 13 year-old brother has grown really tall!> Miri couldn't help herself, the sight of jekel floating in the water with his jaket on, sputtering , with some kelp on top of his head, made her laugh too. <poor jekel! i hope he's not too embarasssed!> miri thought. she stopped laughing, hitting Steven on his knees. he was taken by surprise, and fell in too, landing nearly ontop of miri. "what's with you people and things landing on my face?!" she exclaimed, pushing him off her. he went under, coming up with kelp on his face. Steven laughed at himself, and pulled the kelp off as miri helped jekel get the plant out of his hair. "you have advantages- it landed on your face, not your hair!" miri giggled at her brother, silently warning him not to tease jekel. "diving down, miri pulled at steven's feet, and the two started a miniature game of water-seek. (ooc: like water-tag) Miri wanted to be nice to jekel without making him uncomfortable.

"Are you guys playing water-seek? Wow. I have never played that before." Jekel decided to explain before they asked, "Eveyone else used to play at home but of course nobody wanted me to play with them 'cause I wasn't 'cool'. It was kinda annoying but there wasn't really anything I could do." Surprisingly enough Jekel wasn't very nervous about telling them this. He hadn't told anyone. Ever. If felt good telling them. Jekel didn't feel that embarrassed anymore about falling in the water probably because Steven fell in to. "So you guys are brother and sister, right? Wow, and you both got searched. I can't wait 'till the hatching. You guys wont have to wait long but I have been here for a while now. The wait is getting unbearable." Jekel was kind of blabbing on now, but at least it was something to talk about. "So how do you play water-seek?"
