Miri paused, smiling at jekel. "well, tecnically me and steven aren't related- his parents adopted me when we were both real little, though, so yeah, were basically brother and sister." miri was surprised jekel had told them something so personal, but explained the game to him. "well, the person who's tapped at the begining has to keep their eyes closed, and us others call "seek!" to them to give hints. if the tapped tags you, you are the new tapped, and the game starts again. the only real rules are the tapped cant open their eyes until they tag someone, and the other players have to say ''seek'' every few seconds- if you are silent for too long, you are the tapped! wanna play?" it sounded more complicated a game than it was.

Steven looked at Jekel, grinning. "hah, i cant believe miri made me fall in like that!" he laughed, leaning on her. "then again, while i look tough, miri here's actually the stronger one!" Steven shared something he'd never tell most people, because it felt right to say that. "this game's pretty fun- and Meril likes to play too!" He said, as a pale green flitt popped out of *between* "and im lucky we dont have to wait too long for the hatching- i'd be going nuts if i had to wait more than two months! how long've you been here?" Steven, though younger than miri, had a more open and care-free atitude. miri was abrupt, but friendly, and she was the only one of his siblings who did not think of him in a way similar to the way jekel had been treated. it had always been miri and steven, and their pets. "but i'd suggest taking off your jacket before it makes you sink!" he suggested, pulling off hi own and throwing it onto the bank...

"Yeah I would love to play, and I think I have been here for 2-3 months. But you never know it's probably been longer, I lose track of time here it is so different than home.......... a good different of course. Even though I have been here for a while it still doesn't feel like home. But I s'pose that once we get our dragons if we get our dragons, nowhere else will feel like home." Jekel didn't like where he was leading the conversation, so changed the subject. "So who is going to be it? Not me." He said really quickly, he didn't really feel like showing them how bad he would be. Jekel is not very good at games. He took off his jacket, because Steven was right it was starting to weigh him down.
Did he say Miri was stronger than him? Unless he is really weak Miri must be strong.
Jekel was feeling strangely self concious, because under his jacket he was wearing a very thin, long sleeved T-shirt. It was wet so it clung to him, outlined his bulging, almost unnatural muscles, lining his upper arms. He had never really needed to use them here although they had come in handy at home.

"okay, ill be tapped!" Miri laughed. "hey, jekel- you're not afraid of being tapped- are you? you look strong!" she laughed, teasing. closing her eyes, she turned around to make herself dizzy. "okay, ill count to ten and you move off!" Miri called to them.

Steven looked at jekel <he acted like he was nervous over how strong-looking i am, and how strong i said miri is... but he does look stronger than me.... i wonder why he's nervous- or is he embarrased?> steven grinned at jekel. moving closer, he whispered a plan. "hey, you go that way, and ill go this way, and we should call 'seek' at the same time- to confuse her!" he sugested.

Miri smiled with her eyes closed.she was so lucky her hearing was so good! she heard their plan, but decided it didn't help her to hear it. as soon as miri stopped spinning in a circle, she back into the water. "oops- i'm such a clutz!" she exclaimed. miri was very good at games in the water, except for the fact that she tended to be accident-prone. for her, falling into water, or tripping over things was a part of life. Steven, on the other hand, while good at playing water-seek, had low stamina, and so Miri almost always caught her brother when she was tapped. "okay! go!" miri moved towards where she heard splashing, then heard steven and jekel call out at the same time from two different locations. "SEEK!" though her hearing was good, she couldn't tell where they were, instead listening for splashes and movements in the water. "tap!" she called, to get a response from the two boys. "SEEK!" they called back. Miri lunged in one direction as someone made a huge splash, as if diving under water. her fingers touched a foot, and she opened her eyes. coming up to the surface, she tagged him on the shoulder. "i tagged your foot! you're tapped now!" miri smiled. steven grimaced.

"i usually lose! but this time, ill tap you!" Steven called at challenge. Jekel was farther away. "was it you who splashed the firs time? i could barely hear it! unlike steven here- he makes alot of noise." Miri comented, poking her brother. "let's play the next round, now?" Steven said, closing his own eyes and moving towards the banks....

Jekel was having so much fun. He went over to Miri and told her to use the same idea Steven had, to trick him. Jekel basically hid underwater the whole time only coming up to call 'seek' with Miri. Jekel could hold his breath for a long time and had reasonable hearing, so he could hide underwater and swim away when he heard someone splashing. The second round took a while, Miri was really good but so was Jekel, and Steven couldn't get them. Jekel decided that if this took too long then he would let Steven get him. But not yet.

Steven held back annoyance- it was supposed to be a fun game! but here was miri, showing off again! "TAP!" he yelled in a clear voice. it had been pretty good, until he turned 13! now it was deeper, and he wasn't as good a singer anymore. steven paused to catch his breath, chasing miri around the lake was hard work! as he caught his breath, he heard jekel coming up for a quick breath of air. Steven remembered how jekel had played when miri was the tapped- hiding underwater, only coming up for air and to yell "seek" which is what he and miri did then. "SEEK!" the two called out. he began moving again, but this time towards jekel- or at least, were he thought the other boy was. Jekel was very quiet, quieter than miri, even. but steven listened carefully, not moving or saying anything at all for afew moments. there! he heard the slight sound of jekel rising to the surface, and called out "TAP!" miri called, from far away "SSEK" on her own- that meant he was close to jekel! steven reached out, kicking behind him with his long legs, and zoomed towards jekel's supposed position. steven felt a leg, and came up t the surface, tapping jekel on the shoulder. "TAPPED!" steven called out, opening his eyes. "got you, jekel! (now you can get miri!)" he told jekel, murmering the secind part to the other boy under his breath. hopefully miri didn't hear him- that girl had big ears- metaphorically, of course! Meril flitted out of between "i think meril wants to play the next round too!" steven laughed, puting the pale green flitt on his bare shoulder.

"You got me, okay my go." Jekel wasn't sure if you were supposed to wait for a little while so they could get to a good spot or something but he waited anyways, listening to the sound of their splashes which were getting less and less frequent. He waded out and ducked underwater. He could see and hear the vibrations.

He came up "TAP!" He heard a muffled "Seek." and one loud one from Steven far out. He ducked uderwater again and felt the vibrations of someone stepping across the bottom of the lake floor. He darted out, deeper into the lake, but had to come back up for air. He sat for a while, with one ear underwater and a hand on the ground, and one ear above water listening for splashes. He couldn't hear any splashes, but could hear someone shuffling their feet.

Strangely enough the game hadn't been going for long. He heard the shuffling of feet again and reached out quickly...........

Miri was attempting to be quiet, shuffling her feet rather than swim around. she almost didn't notice when Jekel stuck out hiis arm, raeching to tag someone. she was moving too swiftly, however, to stop moving, and walked right into his arm. he opened his eyes and, grinning, tapped her shoulder. miri was normally a sore looser, but this was more fun- it was not steven who'd caught her- it was a new friend. "ha- you got me! how'd you hear me?!" Miri asked jekel, moving to the banks of the river. now that the game was done, she wanted to lay in the sun and dry off before going into the weyr. she was sure an older rider might not appreciate wet marks all over the place! steven moved towards the banks as well, to dry off in the warm sunlight. it was a bit chillyer than he'd thought, since summer was ending, but warm enough to dry off in. "he's got some super-sensitive hearing, or something, miri!" steven laughed, hitting jekel's shoulder, he got out of the water.
Miri looked for steven's discarded jaket. her shirt was a pale blue, almost white, and it SHOWED everything. she slipped on the semi-dry jacket as she got out of the water. luckily, her trousers were a deep brown, and just got more form-fitting. she sat down on the ground. "i dont want to track water everywhere" miri explained to jekel, as he looked at her, a question in his eyes.
