While the rogues might keep themselves seperate, it didn't mean they had cut themselves off so completely. The death of a queen, even a violet, had streached to reach them. What however they didn't like was hearing that the queenrider had been murdered. It had roased more then a few of them into wanting action, but it was made clear to them that they were wanted far away. The golden Nayarath was not welcoming of them for intruding upon her Weyr, but that was golds for you. Many of their dragons counting many times her seinor but expeience and wisdom didn't matter when you were a certain color.
There was something however Liona could do, having taken quite an interest in a Weyr brownrider. It normally took something special to rose her interest, or maybe the turns were catching up with her and all the greenrider wanted to do was settle down. Isaith had spoken to Ekirith, wanting to meet. They knew the gold had a clutch on the sands, but this was maybe the only time they wished to be conciderate for the one who wished to keep them seperated. A new clutch ment more dragons, something to rogues wanted as much as every other person on Pern.
The meeting place was maybe a bit far out, a forest clearing quite far from the weyr. They had actually left out the details of how close it was to their home. Dragons normally wouldn't reveal such information unless asked to. Dorned in a long green tunic trimmed in black, designed low cut with splits up the sides to the hips to show more of the brown leggings she wore underneath. Sitting under a tree to protect her from the sun, they pair waited and hoped that their request would be answered...

Ekirith warned J'ran that he would probably want to look good before passing on the full of Isaith's message. The rider hadn't been all too pleased with Ekirith's most recent win, no matter how impressive the Brown continued to feel for his streak. Soon enough he would be catching queens again, and then J'ran would be happy.
Until then, Liona was an enticing prospect, and J'ran was prompt about working around his schedule to fit hers instead. Ekirith didn't mind either; Isaith was a lovely little Green, and came with the bonus of being a female that didn't have an objectionable rider.
Soon enough they had popped from between over the allotted clearing. Ekirith landed and started for Isaith, eyes whirling cheerily. This is a sunny little spot you've found.
Compliments surely followed; J'ran ignored them, being far more focused on dismounting and reaching Liona. "Afternoon Liona, it's good to see you again."

So he had come! Liona didn't bother trying to hide the happiness in her smile, she shouldn't have doubted that her forbidden love would leave her. "And you too, J'ran." She walked over to meet him, embracing him lovingly before stepping back. She shouldn't forget why she had called him here.
Its a nice spot, one of our favorites Isaith was happy to see Ekirith too. She knew he was a strong brown, rarely ever loosing a flight. One day she hoped to have him chase her, she wanted to see the impressive brown fly.
"I just wish these were better times, we heard of Kelth's death and her rider's murder." 'We' reffered to the other rogues, most who followed or looked to Liona as if she were a queenrider herself. She ceratinly had some air or supeiroity, even if her dragon lacked them. It had not helped them to get along with the Weyrwoman and her dragon, but two match authorities rarely got along.
"Is there anything we can do to help? The weyr has our co-operation....if the so desire it."

J'ran smiled and returned the embrace. Not only was it good to see her, it had been too long. Weyr work combined with Ekirith's flighty nature made getting around to this sort of meeting hard, and often awkward. At least he had the fact that she lived just about the same way as a consolation.
Ekirith sat back and looked over it. He wasn't much for hanging out amid trees, but it was a pretty spot, and roomy enough that it wasn't too much of a bother. Plants weren't really much to look at though. Lots of green about, but Isaith's shade was the best.
J'ran frowned. It was a rough subject, and not exactly what he would have liked to be discussing just then. Regrettably, it was also too important to just ignore. "Most unexpected happening since Thread's return." Pern was generally a peaceful place. Dealing with Thread was enough trouble, they didn't need murderers running around.
He sighed. "We don't have a lot to go on right now. The goal is to find the killer, but who do we look for? Where would he go? Not far, unless he's a rider, which I doubt. But there are plenty of nooks and crannies around Danac. If any of you can come up with a bit more of a lead, it would be very appreciated. Honestly, the only creature in the Weyr that might not want your help is Nayarath."
Kora was not her dragon and had nothing against the rogues. The only thing Nayarath had against them was that they hadn't immediately obeyed her every whim. That wasn't likely to change though, which was what kept them away. The solution seemed simple and obvious: queens were obeyed, so obey them. Just how little fondness Liona had for that was obvious though, and a problem he wasn't going to deal with.

"Well we have our people, and unlike you weyrfolk us rogues can be... informal in our investigations." Liona would say no more on what she meant. The rogues were dragonriders and they held up their obligations to Pern, however justice needed to prevail. Two people had died already, how many more would fall victim and to what conciquence? A queenrider and Lord Holder were dead, if unorthadox meathods weren't permitted now then who knew if they would ever find the culprit.
Isaith felt a little sad that Ekirith didn't seem to like the clearing as much as she did. Here she didn't feel jittery and jumped at every snap of a twig or russle of leaves, it was known to her and she was comfortable. The Weyr she did not like, too many strangers and many who did no like her or her rider.
With the imporant matters settled Liona was free to relax now. J'ran had said nothing on rogues being suspected, so it was one weight off her chest. Stepping closer one hand reached up to cup his cheek lovingly, her eyes soft and pleading. "I've missed you so much, how have you been?"

J'ran cocked an eyebrow. "Hopefully it will work to your advantage." That they would help was all he needed to know. Just how he wouldn't bother with, so long as they weren't threatening people for information. He didn't think Liona would allow that.
Ekirith lay down next, half spreading his wings to catch the sunlight. It was certainly warmer here than at the Weyr. With winter, it seemed like an almost constant wind had kicked up. It was calmer here. It's certainly comfortable here, he added with a soft croon, noting that Isaith looked a tad distraught.
J’ran caressed Liona’s cheek and then slid his fingers up behind her ear, curling them amid a few strands of hair. "I've been surviving." The flirtatious hunk of Brown nearby had been doing far better than him. "What about you? I've missed you too."

Liona gave a heavy sigh, "Keeping busy. A lost herd througha broken fence, checking out a landslide and monitoring boats fishing at sea. We lost a blue only days ago so we've been keeping an eye on his cothold, it's the least we could do for H'vil and Geruth..." The greenrider spoke respectively of an old friend. H'vil had been the eldest of them, too old for Threadfall. He had only wished to see the last of his days in peace, and he had surrounded by his family and friends.
It is peaceful and quiet The green allowed her to edge closer to Ekirith, her neck curved to keep his eyes on him. It's better now you're here
"And now I think my green is trying to lead Ekirith into believing that she will rise soon. ..."

"I'm sorry." There wasn't a lot that could be done about losing the elderly, although it was still a hard thing to have happen. Loose herdbeasts, on the other hand, shouldn't be that hard to deal with. There was another advantage of the Weyr: even if they did get out- which wasn't enormously uncommon, considering the hunting habits of a certain queen- they had nowhere to go. They were in a crater on top of a mountain.
J'ran wasn't entirely sure what the rogues home base was like. If it wasn't some cothold, it would at least be much smaller than Nyocia, probably lower, more makeshift. They wouldn't have all the help an organized Weyr with a queen received.
Ekirith rumbled softly. Of course it was. He had a knack for improving things. Still, compliments were more due for females. I'm sure I couldn't have improved it much, considering your presence had already graced the area.
J'ran smiled weakly. "I'm sure he wouldn't mind that... so long as he was around." Which he likely wouldn't be. The other rogue riders wouldn't be very pleased if a Weyr rider stole one of their few female dragons either. Apart from those setbacks, however, J'ran wouldn't mind it much either.

"If only there was a way to let you know in time..." Liona said with a sly smile and a seductive touch. Greens weren't easy to predict sometimes, even after a decade of riding one. As eger as the dragon pair looked, sadly they may never mate. Their riders on the other hand didn't have to wait. Many of the rogues already knew of her fratanizing with a Weyr rider, some with mixed feelings. Liona was a human being and could choose her own mates, though she tended to be quite perticular. It was whether or not she would turn to the Weyr that they worried about.
Isaith had now glued herself to Ekirith's side, looking quite comfortable. Tails entwined they looked quite the pair. the green nearly purring like a feline.
"Come, lets go for a walk. These two seem cozy enough without us." Her flirting green made Liona wish that she would rise, and in the mood she was it might be anywhere from the next few hours to days.

J'ran smiled. "Well, we'll keep an eye out." Ekirith particularly. He was not a dragon to miss a Flight, and had hardly the worries his rider did about how the rogue dragons would feel. None of them, in fact. Ekirith won, and that was entirely his focus. J’ran was always left alone with whatever consequences. In this case, at least it couldn't get much worse than what he was up to already.
Ekirith purred contentedly. It was nice to have a Green he could cuddle up to that J'ran wasn't running away from. Plus Isaith was a particularly lovely Green.
"I hope you know this forest better than I do." J'ran took her arm nonetheless. It wasn't likely they would get lost with a pair of dragons to guide them home. He was pretty sure he could trust Liona to have good direction sense as well... himself, not so much. Getting lost, at least, was what had made him a rider.

"Afraid of getting lost with me? Where's your sense of adventure, dragonrider!" She joked, their dragons would find them if they ran into trouble. Liona lead the way through the undergrowth, following the barest trace of a trail through ferns and shrubs yet all the while seemed to know where she was going.
Suddenly the tree line broke, but not to another (or the same) clearing. Infront of them stood a large building, walking around it showed to be what looked like a barn. From the ground you couldn't see the roof was covered in slate tiles to protect it from Thread, and only 2 edges had bee walled off. One side opened up to a small cothold. They stood on a hill that over looked the cotholds and fields blow. Liona gave the approval for Isaith to bring Ekirith, but it seemed they wouldn't for a while.
"Welcome to my little place of Pern, Tias! We're mostly a farming community, but in the winter some of the men head out with fishing at Ranott. I act as resident dragonrider for both."

"I have a bad habit of forgetting it with my dragon," he replied in a joking tone. It would be more honest to say all of it lay with Ekirith. J'ran spent too much time dwelling on the potential bad consequences to get much adventuring done. Liona was by far his most daring activity in Turns.
J'ran's eyebrows rose when they cleared the trees and ended up among buildings. He followed her with growing surprise around the barn, and his eyes widened when he saw the cothold spreading below them. Where were they? Ekirith put in an inquisition and J'ran shared the sight with his dragon, which appeared to dull his curiosity enough to not draw him over quite yet.
J'ran wasn't quite sure what a pair of dragons would do alone together, but apparently Ekirith was enjoying it. No matter; he was far more interested in the cothold. "I- wow." He said that not so much because he was immensely impressed with the place- it had a quaint look to it, like most farming communities seemed to- but more because he was impressed Liona had shared it with him. He hadn't known about Tias for long enough that it felt like a great reward to see it now.
"What's brought on this honor?"

"Well that, is a bit of a story..." Opening the door to her dwelling, the insides were quite average. It looked to be just two rooms, an open door towards the back looking to open into a bedroom. A stove, cupboard, table and a few chairs were the only things that occupied the living area. Gesturing for him to take a seat she poured them cups of water and offered one to him as she sat down herself.
"I've lived her for most of my Rider years, doing exactly what we all did before Thread fell again. No hand outs, if you wanted to eat you worked for it. Having a dragon around made things easier for them, and they helped me in turn." She sipped her water reminiscing about the past twelves Turns in which she had built her life and home. And also the one she had left behind.
"My connections to Ranott is that my son lives there. When Thread started falling, I felt I had no choice but to give him up..."

J'ran followed Liona inside, looking around curiously. Not that there was a whole lot to look at, but he had never expected to find himself at Liona's house. It was certainly interesting, speculating over the simplicity, and then just what the story of what had brought them here could be.
He took a seat and a cup, which he, not particularly thirsty, set aside, and listened. He had only lived the life Liona spoke of very briefly, having Impressed at the clutch that led to the creation of Nyocia Weyr. Technically he had been a part of it all of Ekirith's life, although there had been plenty of fixing up to do there that had kept him out a lot in the beginning.
J'ran's brows contracted. Liona had a son? That was another new, though not entirely shocking, bit of information. "And what happened? How is he now?" He was getting the feeling that he was going to have something to do that concerned this.

"He's fine, growing bigger every time I see him. Tries to stay out of trouble, but some of the others get jealous that he has a Rider mother." It was nearly every child's dream to Impress a dragon, but so few get the chance. Even flying on a dragon could be a privileged, and one that was easily granted to her son.
"His name is Felasir, he's nearly 9 Turns old and he lives with his father. We try to stay friends, but you know how Holder's can be... they don't understand much about mating flights and that was the whole problem. " Liona spoke causally about it, it happened a long time ago and she had made her peace with it. She had planned on raising Felasir alone, but when Thread started falling she just couldn't. He would be left alone during Fall, which was scary enough without even thinking that his mother might come back seriously hurt or even not at all. No, she couldn't force that on him...
However an eyebrow lifted on his curiosity to learn about her personal life. "And you cant tell me that there is no chance you have ever sired a child, J'ran?"

The majority of J'ran's family weren't particularly enthusiastic about the fact that he had become a rider... but wher people were a bit of an exception. Pari had been excited about Ekirith, until he got a wher that he was quite pleased with. Not that J'ran's little brother ever turned down a ride on dragonback even now.
"I can understand that," J'ran said. "Were I a Holder, I would expect monogamy." He was a bit glad he wasn't now, but had he never encountered dragonriding and learned their loose ways, he would imagined he would have a steady wife and family by now. If she had a dragon, he wouldn't be at all pleased if she disappeared every time her dragon rose.
Riders were far more married to their dragons than they ever could be any human. In his opinion, people outside the culture shouldn't be getting caught up with riders at all.
"Guilty as charge," he chuckled. "I believe I have one son, but his mother isn't as firmly convinced that I'm the father as I am." There was another problem that occurred fairly often with Weyrs. That had been several Turns ago now. Maybe the motherknew better, but as far as J'ran was concerned, the boy looked nothing like his supposed sire, and plenty like J'ran.

"Well, I guess you might never know. At least your were willing to accept responsibility, that's what matters." It was one of the things Liona just loved about J'ran, he was genuinely honorable. It was easy for a male to deny fathering a child, there was no way to prove it. A woman couldn't deny that she gave birth, but that still didn't stop them from giving it away or abandoning it...
A gentle padding was the only thing that gave warning before something hit the table from underneath. Reaching under she gave a small laugh as she pulled a kagan onto her lap, rubbing his head. Dark grey in color with tiny white spots, the gravel just looked up at Liona with his big black eyes and try to nestle into her chest.
"Yes, yes... I'm home..." She crooned like a mother would to her child, they sure acting the parts too. Settling the Kagan down in her arms she finally introduced it. "This is Silver."

Or at least he was willing to attempt to. "Maybe we'll see as he grows up." J'ran didn't like feeling but not knowing, but it could be a hard thing to prove. The mother wasn't very interested in doing that anyway, which further complicated it. He had left the issue some time ago, although he did his best to keep track of the boy.
J'ran smiled at the appearance of the kagen. He had seen Silver around before, but never been formally introduced. He was more familiar with the more outgoing Sand, but she had an odder name that he could never remember. Something with a T.
"Good to meet you Silver," he said with a joking smile. He didn't have the slightest expectation for a reply from the kagen, but it never hurt to treat them like they could.
