"No...no...you don't have to leave." Kari was entirely aware she had upset the other violetrider.
They could always change the subject, and she found herself not wanting to just go back to her studies on her own.
She needed to get on with Inolyn, as they would be flying together before too long. They needed to be able to work together *now*. But at the same time, she realized she was coming over as a needy child.
Sigh. This queenrider thing wasn't easy.

"No, I shouldn't have brought it up." Inolyn insisted, though she knew she was making excuses for herself. Her Problems were her own, but if there were still people out there with a grudge against violets then the problem was also Kari's.
She wants you to stay. Sit, or I'll tell B'can you're upset Jorindath threatened, even if she said it witht he best intentions in mind. No one would harm her rider again, so there was no reason to be afraid at all.
You wouldn't dare! Despite her defiance Inolyn knew her dragon would dare, and with a sigh sat back down again. B'can would only worry and the man was already protective of his weyrmate.
"Jori threatened to call B'can on me... So what else has Kora given you to study?"

"Mostly, she wanted me to double check the clutch records...and I suppose she's hoping I'll learn something from them."
She grinned a bit. "Working out what to expect when Fioloth does rise is taking some of my thought, although I did know I was signing up for flights when I accepted Search." For a dragon brooding eggs, no, but flights affected every rider.
"Is it really nearly impossible to predict the first time?" She got the impression a rider had to learn the signs of her specific dragon coming into heat in order to be able to guess when she would rise again...

"No one knows exactly when a mating flight will be exactly, and the first is a BIG shock but you can learn the signs to know when it's close. The best way I've found so far is get the opinion of a male dragon." If anyone would know it would be the dragons themselves. They normally noticed signs before any rider, but in time a pattern would emerge.
"The Queens are clutching about twice a year, so about every six to eight months I know to expect Jorindath to mate. Three months later she'll lay, and 5 sevendays after that they'll hatch." So, in about a month Inolyn would be grounded so Jorindath could rest and focus her energy towards her developing eggs. There were probably already guesses and bets on what curiosities she would clutch this time.
"I just hope Jori won't become distrusting of strangers after all that happened..." Kari had been there, one of the candidates Jorindath and been so eager to show her clutch to. The egg touching had been a happy occasion and even the shyest walked with confidence around her. Hopefully nothing will change

Kari nodded. "So, what, you get B'can to ask Apolloth?" She grinned. That would make having a weyrmate around quite handy.
"Okay...so three months 'pregnant' and five weeks brooding. I bet she's glad when they hatch." It had to be boring, sitting on the Sands watching eggs harden. Of course, there would also likely be a mother's pride - all mothers wanted to show off their babies. Even canine mothers liked their puppies to be admired, or so it seemed.
"I hope not too. It would suck if she didn't let the Candidates touch the eggs or something stupid like that."

"Well, Apolloth is the most convenient after all." Inolyn replied with a wink. Apolloth took great pride in being the mate of a queen, and it was something the tan and his rider didn't want to give up.
"Oh Jorindath quite likes clutching, but she did get a little lonely. Tradition keeps people away, no one wants to bother a queen with a clutch. They can be quite snappy, but not Jorindath... She's one of a kind..." The silly dragon probably didn't know how to be bossy if she tried, but there was no harm in simply being friendly. Maybe they should take a few more trips out during times of Search, it would be easier when people opened their hearts.
"I'm sure everything will work out, best to remain optimistic and deal with problems we know rather then those we don't. You're welcome to visit the clutch when its laid to see for yourself, I'm sure it'll be a good experience for your training."

Kari nodded. "I would like that, as long as Jorindath doesn't mind." It was ultimately up to the queen whether she would tolerate people other than her rider and her mate's rider on the Sands.
She had read that their willingness to do so varied from queen to queen, and she wondered how Fioloth would be. Either over-protective or wanting everyone to see the beautiful eggs she had made, she thought with amusement. Likely both, depending on her mood.
"Jorindath is a lovely dragon...almost as pretty as Fioloth."
