Amarna stared at the wall. With Holleth asleep, she felt3qa touch tired, but not that tired. She was about ready to scream with boredom. She had practiced with her short knife, her throwing dagger andshe still had time on her hands. With a half smile, she pulled out her long knife, her fancy and prised knife. She had no one to practice against, but she could still do routine move to get herself in shape. She spent a little while practincing rolling and moves with the knife, but she soon bored of that and with a flip of her hand, she sheathed the knife and went back to staring at the wall. There was nothing better for her to do.

T'lat saw Amarna sitting in the barracks so he decied to give her a big suprise he took his knife and threw it to wear it would graze her ear, but not hurt her. When it hit the wall he walked up and sat down next to her. Hansth then curled up around him and Iron and Emerald landed on him and he reached for and picked up his knife and began to spin it and said to her " Hello my dear Amarna." He was smiling at her as he said this becuase he knew he liked her.

Amarna stiffened as a knife flew past her ear. If she had moved that person could have killed her! She grabbed the closest knife that was lying on her bed, the one waiting to be sharpened, and she then turned her head toward the door. moving like lightning itself, about to yell at whoever had starlted her with the knife, she realized it was T'lat and almost laughed. T'lat was good with a knife and probably knew that she wouldn't move. Thinking about it though, she would have thought anybody else was trying to kill her and just had bad aim. "Hello T'lat." Amarna replied politly, her face sort of hidden by her hair. She was trying to hold back a laugh and knew that if she said anything more she would probably burst out laughing and T'lat would think her a raving lunitic. It was much better just to quietly hide herself.

After she got her self under control, she pulled her hair back from her face almost uncontiously and said, "Bored to death too? Or just trying to scare poor girls out of their wits by throwing knives?" With this Amarna sheathed the knife she had grabbed since it wasn't very good and pulled out a small dagger and pretended to be utterly bored and pick at her nails with it.

T'lat just looked at her thoughtfully for a second and said " No not really I was just looking for someone to talk to and I happen to find my beautiful dear Amarna sitting in here bored so I decided to get your attention the way that I thought you would most enjoy. I can tell by the look on your face that you did." He had purposely shown his feelings for her in that sentence figuring it would be best to let her know sooner then later. He just looked at her with a smile as Iron flew over and settled himself on her shoulder. Hansth said to T'lat Mine that is the first time I have heard you be direct with anyone on that subject. T'lat looked at the bronze and said I have to start sooner rather then later my friend.

Amarna was almost shocked at first about how blunt T'lat was, but, boys were never good at not being blunt. Amarna just managed to keep her shock from showing, luckily. She reached up and gently scratched iron's head knobs, carefully thinking of an answer. Why do boys always have to be so blunt? It always made it hard on the poor person who was on the other side of the conversation. And now, she was on the other side and somehow she had to think up a good answer. Finally, she thought up a good reply, "Throwing a dagger did get my attention, I will give you that." Amarna said laughing, remebering how she had acted right after the dagger had been thrown, just to find out it was T'lat. "You are lucky I saw you or might have scewered you in half before I even noticed who it was. I was taught to be pretty instintual about reactions when it came to defending one's self," Amarna finished while picking up a grind stone and the knife she had been about to sharpen. She could feel the heat rising to her cheeks though about the comments. No one had ever called her beautiful before. She had been called many things like wild and crazy, and it was often said that her head lay in the clowds to much and she needed to bring it back down to Pern. She didn't say anything though as she allowed her hair to cover her face while she worked. She really didn't want T'lat to notice the blush that had crept up her face without her consent. She liked to think that she didn't care what people thought of her, but now she realized that nice things did get to her. Th little jibes that she sometimes got couldn't break her steel skin, but she was not ready for someone to actually say that she was beautiful and it had caught her off guard, it had gotten under her skin, and it was all she could do to pretend that she had not been caught off her guard. And that, that was the strangest feeling ever.

T'lat just looked over and smiled at her and siad " Not really Amarna if you would have tried to scewered me then I would have stoped you. I am pretty confiedent in my fighting ability if anything." He then looked at her trying to guage her reaction to what he had said and saw that she was blushing. He had noticed how she tried to hide her face with her hair somtimes and he reached up and moved her hair out of the way so that he could more clearly see her face and he siad " Now Amarna my dear why are you trying to hide such a beautiful face with that hair hmmm. Why does it bother you that I called you beautiful when it is so plianly obivious that is what you are." He just looked at her and smiled and pulled his hand away and let her hair fall back.

Amarna laughed at T'lat's reply and answered, "How do you know that, You might not even have realized what was coming." Though her teasing tone totally contradicted the very words she said.

When T'lat's hand brushed away the veil of hair that covered her face she kept her face as nutral as she could. Why, why, why did he do that. She liked not having her face a licing screen for her emotions. And how in the world could he have come up with her as beautiful. Then she mumbled out, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." She was almost glad when he let her hair go, but there was something that almost wished that he had kept holding it. It took all of Amarna's self control not to say something that would embaress her further, not to blush more. Why was there such a thing as blunt? She whispered, almost without realizing what she was saying, "And you, what do you see within yourself? I see muself as someone that looks crazy, but you say i am beautiful. What would you think if I said you were handsome?" Now was the time for her mouth to stop speaking Amarna thought to herslef. Why did she ever open her mouth? Like the old saying GIGO (garbage in garbage out). And of course, she had to say something awfully stupid.

T'lat smiled at her and luaghed a little at her joke, but her next statement he said " Yes bueaty is in the eye of the beholder and when I behold you I see bueaty." He thought that kinda werid to say, but it seem to fit the moment very well. When asked what he saw in himself he thought of all the bad thing that he had always thought of himself and deicded he could sum it up in one sentance and siad " I see in myself a very lonley and sad person that is what I always see." Yet when she asked what he would say if she said he was handsome. He just looked at her his eyes were a bite wide and he could feel himself blushing greatly. Alot more then Amarna was. He felt he had lost all composer and said " Well I would say..." He did not know what he would say he had been expecting rejection. He was very surpised becuase no one had ever said those words to him. Hansth nugded him and siad Say somthing Mine. There is no reason to be afriad. He then reached out and moved her hair out of her face and said " I would say thank you. You are the first person to ever say that too me. I would think that those are the kindest words anyone has ever said to me."

Amarna was amazed that T'lat described himself as sad and lonely. She turned and looked straight at him and said, "Why are you lonely? You have Hansth, Iron, Emerald, and all your firends around here. You shouldn't be lonely." Then, Amarnareached out and grabbed his hand, trying to show that he was not alone.

She could see that herwords from previously had unsettled T'lat. "I am amzed no one has said that to you before, Amarna said, fighting the blush that so badly wanted to become a fire on her cheeks. Amarna was amzed with herself. She had always thought she would run in this type of situation, but she was still here.

T'lat sighed and said to her " Well I have just been lonley all my life and I guess that is just the only thing I have ever know for most of my life and this is the first time that I have really had people that care about me so I guess I am just not used to it." When he felt her grab his hand he blushed even more and wrapped his own hand around hers. and he looked at her and smiled.

He when she said that she was suprised that know one at said that to him before this made him smile becuase he knew what she really thought of him and he said " I guess nobody has really thought of me was handsome before. You are the first. Plus I always found that you were the person I had the most in common with around here and that is one of the reasons I like you. Of cousre in the end I don't really deserve someone has pretty as you Amarna."

"Maybe it is good for you to get used to being cared about," Amarna mumbled quietly. When he said that he didn't deserve her it made her sad that he put himself down so much. She smiled and said, "Everyone is equal. We are all people and know one deserves something more than someone else. You are more equal than some people because you ride a bronze dragon!" Then she looked away for a second at the form of her rousing dragon and quietl but feircly added, "Every one deserves something good, T'lat."

With that, Holleth sat up and gave a huge dragonic yawn. Holleth then said, Hate to ruin everything, but do you have any food for me, and can I be bathed soon, my hied itches.
Then Holleth turned her attention to the visitors and said, Hey T'lat and Hansth. How do you do. If you please excuse my dear Amarna mine, she must feed me now and bathe me, though you can come if you want.
Amarna almost laughed at Holleth's waking. Fondly she rubbed Holleth's head knobs and replied to her dragon, You have been out awhile. But of course, you can have food and bathing, but I think that it will be bathing then food since you always fall asleep after eating.
Amarna then turned to T'lat and asked, "You coming?"

T'lat just smiled at her words. No one had really told that he deserved anything before. It just made him like her more and more. He smiled and said " Yes I guess you are right that I do deserve happiness. Yet I would have to disgree that am more deserving of it more than anyone esle becuase I am a bronze rider." He had still not got used to the things that came with being a bronze rider. He smiled and said " You are right that I deserve somthing and the thing I was hoping to desreve was you my dear Amarna."

When Holleth woke up T'lat just looked over at the Barred dragon and smiled at her. Hansth looked up at her and said Hello bueatiful Holleth. When T'lat heard this he just cover his face and siad " Hansth don't you start to now." T'lat then answered to the Barred " Of course we would like to come. I don't think that Hansth would mind a bath either." Hansth siad to T'lat Now that you mention it my hide is getting kind of icthy and I am hungry. T'lat luaghed and said to Amarna " Of course we'll come."

Amarna did not say anything to T'lat's hoping that he deserved her. She really didn't have to because of Holleth's waking up.
Holleth quietly took Hansth's welcome but then when T'lat said don't you start too now, Holleth was confused. She asked everyone, What is Hansth starting? He just greeted me. There is nothing wrong with greeting me. With that, Holleth delicatly uncurled herself and stood up, waddling toward the weyrbowl where she would get bathed.

Laughing, Amarna said, "I think that this means we are supposed to follow her now." With that Amarn jumped up and went for a bag of sweet sand and oil. She heard in her head from Holleth, Of course you are supposed to follow me.

T'lat just shook his head and said to Holleth " It's nothing Holleth nothing at all. There is nothing wrong with him greeting you." Hansth then began to walk along beside Hollleth as she started to head toward the weyrbowl. T'lat smiled at Amarna and said " Yeah I guess we do." He aslo grabed a bag of sweet sand and oil and then Emerald and Iron flew over and landed on T'lat. He waited as he stood by Amarna waiting to go.

Amarna and Holleth walked quickly to the lake. It wasn't that long a walk and it was an easy walk, downhill. Amarna smiled and said, "Always knows exactly what she wants. There are no douts in her mind about life." Amarna was talking about Holleth, who was happily wadling along toward the lake, not even a hint of indesision about anything in her mind. Just a pure want to be washed and oiled. Sometimes, life seemed MUCH simpler for the little dragons.

T'lat who was walking along beside Amarna and siad to her " Yes I agree Hansth seem the same way somtimes. Other times he sort of seems unsure of himself." Hansth was just walking along beside Holleth. T'lat looked at the little bronze and still was in wonder how he ended up with a bronze. Yet he had really stoped questioning that becuase of Hansth's reassurace's. Really the bronze always seemed most sure of himself when he was reasuring his bonded.

Amarna laughed and said, "Holleth is mostly unsure about being a barred. She came up to me and said that she thought she was a barred dragon because that is what her sister said they were. She doesn't always correct people when they call her a green, unlike most barreds. I hate to say it, but it almost seems like she is unsure of her coloring." Amarna said this all while fondly smiling at the dragon, who was now waiting at the lake's edge for her. She pulled out the sweet sand and rubbed it all in and then said to Holleth Now go rinse off.
Yeah! Holleth replied as she jumped in the water and started splashing around. Then she used her wings to splash Amarna, T'lat, and Hansth. The water was fun.

T'lat looked at the Barred and siad " Well I don't see why people have to call her a green if that is what she isn't." He then looked fondly back at his own dragon just at the moment that he got splashed by Holleth and this made him luagh. He then called hs bronze over to him and he bent down and rubbed the sweet sand over him too then he point to th water which the bronze seemed exicted to go and siad to him Alright you can go rinse off now my love. The bronze raced to the water and started to splash around and play with Holleth and then both of T'lat's firelizards flew over to play with both of the dragons in the water.

Amarna laughed at the dragons and flits that were splashing each other and having a good time. She sat down beside T'at while waiting for the dragons. She knew that they probably wwouldn't come out until they were tired, then they would eat, and then they would fall asleep. Life was almost predictable as a weyrling. While watching Armarna commented, "Looks like they are having a real good time. They could want for nothing."
Life was good for them, but one day they might have to pay the price, like Zadari had had to. She had gotten another dragon, but who knew, sometimes a person could stand it and sometimes they just gave up.

T'lat smiled as he wacthed the dragons playing. He turned to Amarna and siad " Yeah they look like they don't have a care in the world. To bad it won't always be this way." T'lat hated the idea that anything might happen to his dear Hansth. He knew form the moment Hansth had first looked into his eyes that he would not be able to live without his dragon. If Hansth died then T'lat knew that he would kill himself on the spot. It would really not be that hard of a choice for him. Becuase really that little bronze was now the only thing holding T'lat's fragile emotion state toghter really. T'lat looked at Amarna " They are the best thing that have happened to us really. I don't know what I would do without Hansth."
