L'han leaned against the rocky ledge that walled in the Weyr, watching the Weyrlings far off by the lake in the distance. With 3 newly hatched Tan's he and Wuith were no longer quite so one of a kind. Even the fire lizards were clutching the new oddities; violets, tans and the new barreds.
With Kelth now caught on her mating flight everyone was waiting on the clutch, if there was going to be one. With her being caught by a brown there was little no no chance of thre being a queen, gold or violet but who knew what oddities the violet would pass on to her children. There was something unusual about the strange new queens, almost as if they held some sort of secret...

Seeing a fellow Wing Second just on a ledge looking out at the weyrlings made D'lis a little interested.
Strath and D'lis landed on the ledge as well and dismounted. " Hey there L'han. What are you doing up here looking at the weyrlings? Afraid they might bite? Come now, there are some more Tans down there...and those new colors. They seem a little brutal."
D'lis' shoulders hunched in a depressed stance as he looked on at the other man. What was he doing? Hello Wuith.

Hello Strath, D'lis looks as down as always. Any perticular thing this time? Wuith wasn't trying to be smart, it did just seem to him that the brownrider always seemed down in the dust.
"I know, isn't it great! We tan's are finally going to give you browns and maybe the bronzes a run for your Marks!" L'han nearly shouted in joy. But now he had that off his chest he could calm down a little. "yeah, those...Barreds? Weird little creatures they are, but that Violet is a pretty little thing..." His expresion softened a little as the purple speck was easily destinguished from the group.

Nothing really particular, maybe I should just chase. A romp can get someone happy, can't it? Strath turned his head to look at the other dragon, keeping one eye on the two men.
D'lis gave a chuckle, howbeit sad. " Setting sight on another new color? Why didn't Wuith chase Kelth? I'm sure that she would have liked more than the few suitors she got...though it seemed Shador was eager to take J'ran."
D'lis was pessimistic as always, maybe it was him that was regretting Strath not chasing the Violet. That could have been him in Shador's bed...he hadn't been in anyone's bed for a while. He always got thrown out of the Green rider's beds though, even though he was much happier after a Flight.

"Hey that's right! Why didn't you, you lazy lizard!" L'han shouted up at his dragon though he was trying to turn the topic off the weyrlings. They were much too young to be courted so even if there was a beauty in the lot (and there were a few) he was forced to wait.
Kelth would have been too easy. We are the same in size Wuith said smuggly, as if he could have caught the violet queen without trying. "Shador and I only had the similarity of our unusual dragons, we weren't close. Wuith wasn't interested, them being the same size didn't help."

D'lis gave a smile and sat down. " I suppose. Strath says he likes to watch the first Flight of any dragon to get a feel for it. Maybe he's lazy too."
Strath shook his head, His didn't understand sometimes. Why run into something blindly? I like to be prepared Mine. Nothing wrong with that, Thread is the only thing we don't need to observe. We know what to do with that.

Thread should be afraid of us, my flame will turn it to dust! Even though the young pair were maybe too young to be the wingsecond's of the Visok wing, Wuith was just as proud as ever. It had cast a few doubts in the mind of L'han about his ability to rise to the role, but if Y'xem had confidence in him enough then all should be well.
"Wuith takes nearly anything head on, sometimes the best way to learn is to play the game. A challenge stirs things up..." He trailed off before shaking his head, "No, I shouldn't mess with the weyrlings. K'met would want my hide!"

Yes. Still, I like preparing in other things. Strath gave a draconic shrug and looked over the ledge at the weyrlings.
D'lis looked over at L'han. " What? You have a thing for one of the girls? K'met would definately send you between forever. But you can always wait until her dragon rises, a Violet in the sky won't be hard to miss."
D'lis gave the other man a wink.

"What?! No! That wasn't what I meant at all! Shards man, you must be getting too old to know that 'fun' can still be innocent child's play!" And why did he have to mention the violet? Yes, maybe her rider was half the reason he liked to watch but there was no way he was going to do anything with Jorindath so young.
"Anyway, I overheard that the Weyrleader's think highly of the new queen rider. Even that Sabre woman wanted her, for a gold wher no less..."

D'lis just grinned and shook his head. " Really? Sabre wanted her? Well, she will be a good Queen rider then to be sure. That woman really is brutal...but she knows how to pick her own Candidates."
Strath gave a sigh and laid down on his side being very careful of his wing. I prefer Greens really...but a Queen every now and then would be nice. Especially if it cheers up Mine.

I preffer a challenge, its not much fun if you know your going to win Some of the flightier greens took his fancy, a fast and furious flight was always welcome.
" "Such a pity. That girl could have Handled gold, if she'd half tried. We house so few of Harper get, it's difficult to get decent music." " L'han quoted in a mocking way. "I would say we saved her, i would hate to see what those candidates are like next time we see them."

D'lis shook his head. " Whers are rough on their bonded...but some can take it better than others. Sabre isn't that affected, she's just viscious. I don't think Inolyn was meant for anything but a dragon."
Strath looked over at Wuith. Every Flight brings its own challenges, not matter what size the female is. I choose based on who I think would make a good mate, not the challenge...I guess that may just be me.

Mine doesn't have a favorite who has a dragon I chase, he doesn't mind as long I have fun And have fun the Tan normally did. He was large, strong and liked to garentee a good flight. What female couldn't possibly concider him?
"What about that Gwen girl that didn't Impress? I've heard she was acting like a Lady Holder around the other candidates, you think she might be wher material? She certainly has some sass." Must get off the topic of Inolyn, Must get of the topic of Inolyn... he thought to himself.

D'lis shook his head. " No, she's too prissy for a Wher. They would kill her during the hatching! Her best bet is to stay on and hope to Impress. I heard she just wants a Queen...but She'd count her lucky stars to get a Barred the way she's acting."
Strath gave Wuith a look. Now not even I'm that considerate. I meant a good mate for me, maybe Mine can work something out. He knows he can't stop me from winning just because he doesn't like the other's rider.

"Maybe we should send her home then? She doesn't have a choice in who she Impresses and the last thing we need is for her to try and chase off a hatchling just because it isn't what she wants..." Those sorts never ran well with him. The stuck up candidates that came here desiding that they were worthy of this or that and the Weyr having to deal with them till they went home or finally a dragonet chose them.
Mine, me, we are both together Wuith brushed off. Flights shouldn't have to thought out so seriously, if you had an urge to chase you rose to the occasion

D'lis gave a laugh. " No no. She may only want one color, but when she Impresses...it will be different. Once the eyes meet, she will be that dragonet's play thing if it wants."
He knew all too well, that was what Strath had done. D'lis had expected Blue, and gotten Brown.
Strath gave Wuith a look. Mine likes to be on his own.

L'han gave an evil smirk. "Did you see the look on her face when she saw that Jorindath was a violet? I swear she almost walked off right there and then she was so apalled, more so after there was no queen left to Impress." Maybe it was so easy for him to joke and tease others when he had never had to go threw any of the candidate process. The waiting, hoping, wishing that a dragonet would even look their way.
You brought her up again Wuith told his rider mockingly. "But those Barreds, do you think they are going to be a supieror green?"

" She won't get a Gold if she keeps up that attitude, unless the Gold is exactly the same way. I think it would be funny if she got a Violet myself. Still...a Green would be hysterical." D'lis gave a snort.
A snore came from Strath. Don't hold that one's attention for even a second and he was gone. He wasn't lazy really...just easily bored.

L'han just burst out in laughter, he just couldn't help himself! This man was reknown for heing depressed and agnst. "Jays man! When did you grow a scence of humor! It's refreshing to hear it, but save the violet from the evil candidate." Maybe it was just his dragon's personality weighing him down. It could get a little that way from time to time.
"Well after Nayarath's 26 we now have to round up another 20 or so young men and women, where are we going to find all these people?!"

He just shrugged. " I've always had one, I just don't show it much. But when I do...it's a little dark. She deserves an equally self absorbed dragon regardless of color though."
Giving a look over at Strath, D'lis slouched more...even sitting. " That dragon gets bored way to easy, I think that if Flights weren't so lust-fueled he'd get bored and fall asleep then too."
