Jorindath sat on her ledge, a common sight recently, the violet still keeping her rider guarded since the hatching feast incident. Inolyn hadn't long been released from the infirmary, but the worst had past and all she needed was rest and time. When an infection appeared many had thought the worst, but caught early it had passed but the recovery was slow. Now all that remained was healing scar tissue and tender muscles, but while the body was healing her spirit was reluctant...
Sitting between her dragon's fore legs, Inolyn was trying to get some sun and fresh air which had been scarce from recent storms. It did her better then laying up in bed all day, something she had done plenty of. The violetrider's smile wasn't as bright as it used to be and she often found herself staring out into the distance, lost in thought.
Never had she thought that Shador's killers would come for her, there wasn't anything she had done wrong. She was friendly and caring, with a genuine interest in the happiness and safety of the people of Pern. Nothing could be said about Jorindath, other then she was not selfish or demanding which was unorthodox for a queen. And yet in a crowded room, surrounded by close friends, someone had tried to kill her...

And B'can was...not entirely convinced the assassin had acted alone. Other than his required duties, the tanrider had spent much time, too, guarding his weyrmate.
Now, he stepped out onto the ledge, cheered to see her up and about to some degree. And the day was, indeed, more pleasant than many had been recently. His fears, he did not voice. She had not been herself since the attack...and who would expect her to be. He had seen the young violet weyrling glancing around herself nervously, too. Had she not been right next to her dragonet, B'can suspected the assassin might have gone for both of them.
He did not speak straight away, moving to sit on the ledge nearby, his eyes on the woman he had come, very much, to love.

Jorindath swiveled her head round to look at B'can, looking more relaxed then she had in quite some time. Rider was with her dragon, all was as it should be. Inolyn had to force her dragon to eat or she would never leave her weyr, but the victims weren't the only ones suffering paranoia. They had heard stories of riders turning on each other, accusations of being accomplices from which even poor weyrlings weren't even safe...
She is doing much better. She just needs some more time, the fresh air does her good[/i] Jorindath reassured the tanrider. During this hard time she had spoken to him more and more, maybe out of reassurance through her rider's black sleeps and feverish hallucination.
Inolyn took a deep breath in and sighed gently, looking over at B'can. "You can come closer, I'm not going to bite!" Some of her good humor was returning, whether naturally or forced she never told anyone.

B'can wandered over. "If Jorindath would just move her paw a little so I can get there." He was cheered by her good humor even as he feared it was, indeed, false. Feigned for his benefit. Perhaps Apolloth could get the truth out of Jorindath, but the tanrider did not want to push things or to ask.
Jorindath seemed to be in a better mood, though, and dragons were far less likely to dissemble than their riders. B'can would take that as evidence that his woman WAS recovering, albeit slowly. And at some levels, simply to have her still alive after all that had happened was enough. it had to be.

Sorry...[/i] The violet talon moved aside to open up space. Had there been room enough she would have called Apolloth over, but that might ruin the veiw for the riders. They needed their time together.
Once he sat down, Inolyn leaned into her mate. For a little while she said nothing, just staring out at the Weyr. Dragons of all colors sat on ledges, fed at the hunting grounds or splashed in the lake. It would have been peaceful, but they knew better then that. Everyone still worried, but life had to go on. Every dragonrider on Pern couldn't drop everything to hunt out schemming murderers, and they couldn't make a blind wherry chase of it either.
"B'can...I was so scarred..." Her words were soft, but she was reffering to her posible death at the hatching feast. Inolyn had tried to be brave, but untill she fully recovered she would never be able to defend herself should it happen a second time.

"I...so was I. I thought I had lost you." He moved around the violet talon. And Apolloth was well aware that his presence would cause logistical problems, even on a queenrider's ledge. He was sunning on the fireheights, well above them, but the tan's mental touch was quite, quite present.
"I..." He paused, then spoke words that did not often come from his undemonstrative lips. "I love you, Inolyn."
And he wanted to continue to love her, even if Apolloth did not keep flying Jorindath. If they could make it work. Some riders managed it, if neither was particularly jealous of other flight partners. But he also knew that sometimes the queenriders did play weyrmate switcheroo when flights happened. Then there was Kora, who refused to weyrmate with anyone.
She must be holding out for just the right guy...

Inolyn knew how much those words meant from him. B'can did not use the word 'love' lightly, and knew she was one of maybe only two beings B'can loved. The other was Apolloth, whom she would always place second against but she understood long ago and took no offence. Jorindath would always be first in her heart, without her dragon she would only be a shadow of herself.
"You wouldn't have stayed by my side all this time if you didn't." She kissed his cheek gently. Some men might have taken a step back, not wanting to get caught up in another assasination attempt. Inolyn still breathed and Jorindath still lived, they had been lucky and nothing more.
"And I could not have a better man to have by my side. No matter how many mates Jorindath takes, there is only one i want."

"Jorindath has to think about the size of her clutch, although I suspect Apolloth will prove hard to beat when the time comes." And with SOME queens, prior knowledge of the mate provided an advantage. Not with Nayarath, though...now there was a fickle gold.
"I'm not going anywhere. I would only leave if you threw me out, and then..." He would survive, of course, but he would be miserable for a very long time indeed. And had she died...well...Jorindath had got to the assassin first.
Fortunately for the assassin.

It was true, very few dragons could be compared to Apolloth for size and strength. Kayth and Wuith obviously, having caught Nayarath in the fight for Weyrleadership, and some of the browns could prove to be serious competition.
"I don't think she even considers her clutch size, she just chooses the one that impresses her most." A dragon who was agile and fast could out fly a stronger dragon, experience could win over youth. No one would know till it happened who would win, maybe it was better that way.
"And I would never throw you out, I'm nothing like Kora or Shador." Inolyn had only one previous mate in her 5 Turns at the Weyr. Many had thought it for the best, T'lat wasn't much of a leader and his bronze was not much better. Her heart wasn't one that could thrown around carelessly, or locked away bitterly.

B'can considered. "Kora, I think, just hasn't met the right man. Shador...I think she got bored easily. You're nothing like her."
He did idly wonder what the new violet rider, Karisna, would be like in her relationships. Not, of course, that he wanted anyone other than Inolyn. But there was very little real knowledge of the pattern violets followed in their Impressions as of yet.
Inolyn and Shador were so different that he wondered if what they looked for was very individual, very specific to the dragon herself.

"I don't see how Kora didn't like D'mas or L'han. I guess i will never understand..." D'mas was quite popular for a bronzerider and had been a fine Weyrleader. Rumor be told that he and Kora had fought when leadership passed and he was now happily with a barredrider. L'han however seemed to have never been partnered with anyone except Shador when Wuith caught Kelth, but it appeared more duty bound then romantic. The only woman he appeared to have any interest in was in fact Kora, but Inolyn knew his feelings would never be returned.
It was still a long way off, but hopefully Karisna would find someone that made her as happy as B'can did for herself. There were many bronze, tan and brownriders that could be good choices.
Inolyn sighed again. It was good get her mind off her own problems, even if they belonged to someone else. She was feeling much better, maybe tomorrow she would take a walk around the Weyr. Just a small one though... still lacking a sense of full security. The violetrider let her lips brush he man's cheek in a gentle kiss. "Thank you B'can, I dont know how i could live without you."

B'can shrugged. "You can't judge other people for who they like and don't like. It's not an exact thing."
Then her lips brushed his cheek. He wanted to reach for her, but right now, he was letting her lead the dance. She knew what she was up for after all.
And the injury had made her...sensitive. Although he could tell she was finally on the mend, not just physically, but mentally.
"Don't worry. I don't plan on letting you try...Guess, don't harass Jorindath." He eyed the brown who was flying around the violet's headknobs. Firelizards. At the worst moments, they would show up and cause trouble.
They were always trouble.

Jorindath rarely minded firelizards, her rider having two herself. They scarcely bothered her, not to mention she was a queen and much larger then they. No matter it is dragon or lizard, none argued with a queen lightly. Leave, little one. I dont think they wished to be disturbed just yet[/i]
"Then let us go inside. Its getting quite cold and I didn't bring out a coat..." It was true, she had only come out to get a little sun and walk around a little. As Inolyn stood up she didn't lose her smile nor any of the loving glow about her as she took his hand and lead him inside her weyr.

OOC: I get the feeling this one is heading for FTB territory and I like that as an end .
