R'mer yawned his way into the dining cavern. It was far, far too early for anyone except maybe a wherhandler to be up.
And worse, it was his own stupid fault. He'd agreed to switch sweeps...of course, what he was getting from it from the other rider was worth it. For right now, though, he was questioning why he would be so utterly crazy as to *voluntarily* do dawn sweeps.
At least Tinth was only a blue and did not have to deal with the longer routes.
"Too early...too early for anything but a wher." And the whers had all moved to the Hold at this point...
Even his firelizards were, sensibly, still fast asleep. He wasn't going to see a peep out of them until he got back, he was sure of it.

There weren't that many awake and active this time of morning. Only those with business to attend to had pulled themselves from their warm beds to drag themselves out into the cold winter dawn. It seemed unusual that over the murmured complaints and soft sounds of eating that loud laughter filled the cavern.
Earisa held to the wall, trying to hold back her amusement that nearly had her on the verge of tears. Only when a slightly battered and incredibly embarrassed K'nam walked in after her did the pair take a seat with R'mer. They were teamed up with the bluerider for the sweep, Earisa was a common face on the dawn patrols but K'nam was being tested for a wing second position.
"Sure you can handle this, K'nam? I'm sure Erith isn't going to run us into any trees or mountains." And she pulled a twig out of the stubbornly silent brownrider's hair.

R'mer rolled his eyes. "Tinth wouldn't let him..." He knew the brownrider was being tested. R'mer himself was not about to go for rank...not surprising given his lack of ambition that he had Impressed a blue.
"But I suppose I'll be deferring to you for this run, K'nam." He liked the brownrider and had no objection to his likely forthcoming promotion. As for Earisa? Tinth thought Maideneth was cute...of course, R'mer didn't share his opinion, not regarding the green's rider, anyway. Wrong plumbing.
"Gah. Too early. I need more klah."

K'nam knocked Earisa's hand away with a shy smile which he hid in a mug of klah. He really didn't know why they were pushing this on him. Even though the majority of the Weyr had impressed in the last 4 Turns the brownrider was too young and inexperienced to be taken seriously. Even he wouldn't trust someone in this position. "It's only a standerd patrol, it's hardly worth concerning yourself."
Earisa shrugged it off, not one known for tormenting others. She was just feeling smug that the boys were finding it so hard to be awake (she didn't try to hide it), casually sipping juice as fire lizards slowly began to fill space around the table. Only three actually came forwards who were promptly fed, Earisa's three, but the rest were just acting like starving wherries. Sometimes they were lucky to be given scraps, more often then not there was nothing left.
"Maybe I should suggest kitchen duties as a form of punishment, the drudges and cooks get up much earlier then this." Another smug smirk, of L'han would love the idea! Would certainly take the air out of some hot heads.

Of course, at that point, R'mer's Thunder showed up, the blue joining the others. No sign of his *other* flit for right now.
"And now the firelizards are awake, I see. And after food as usual. It's a wonder some of the flits around here don't end up too fat to fly."
Thunder gave him a look...and stole part of a piece of meat from his plate.
"See what I mean?" Not that he was moving to stop the little blue, at least not yet. He hadn't taken more than his due and there was plenty more food. The Weyr usually ate well, at least.
Most of the time. It got a little harder when there were very young weyrlings...and with another young queen...
Well...they needed all the dragons they could get. Eventually they would be able, R'mer hoped, to start a third Weyr.

"If dragons ate like lizards there wouldn't be any herdbeasts left!" K'nam joked. He had two of his own that were yet to show themselves; a tan and blue. Actually there were very few people these days who didn't have at least one of the smaller cousins of dragons. With so few dragons to fight Thread, the firelizards must have decided to take matters into their own talons and seemed to be breeding faster to make up the numbers.
Earisa's drained her mug and dismissed her lizards, leaving the bowl and its remains on the table behind them that disappeared in a flurry of colored wings. "Well the sooner we get this sweep done the sooner we'll have the day to ourselves." Earisa suggested and K'nam agreed. By the time the had harnessed their dragons it would be time to leave.

"Yeah," R'mer agreed. "Let's go." He sent a quick thought to Tinth, making sure the dragon was where he should be...out in the bowl with his flying straps on.
Getting up, the bluerider tugged on his helmet. "And let's hope for a boring sweeps." Because the alternative was never good. GOOD things did not happen to sweepriders. Bad things did...and not always thread-related bad things. He'd heard of people finding everything from lost children to full prides of the largest kind of wild feline while on sweeps.
