Name: B'can
Age: 17
Rank: Wingrider
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance:
B'can, or Brec, as he prefers, is short. He's not much over five feet tall, but makes up for it by being almost the same across. Okay, slight exaggeration, but he is most definitely a short, stocky guy. His hair is a rich, dark brown, and he wears it short, usually neatly cut. His eyes are light brown, and his face is also stocky and heavyset.
He is stronger than his height would suggest, and well muscled. His voice, too, is deep, hovering already between base and baritone. He moves with the confidence of somebody who knows how to handle himself physically. His preference is for dark colors and simple cuts.
Personality:
Brec is actually a pretty stoic type. He values the physical over the intellectual, and was raised to believe that 'real men don't cry'. Because of this, he tends to sit on his emotions, often not showing them when it would be frankly a good idea to do just that. If he must, he will retreat to private before allowing any physiological reaction to show. It's a shell. Underneath, he's usually miserable, but would never let anyone know that. Lonely, he very definitely is. With all of the traveling he does, he has never had much chance to make real friends.
He was also raised by a man obsessed by duty. You do it, regardless of how it makes you feel. Duty should go above family, above health, above happiness. Doing the best job you can is the only thing that matters and the only way a man should be judged. Women are for looking after babies...although Brec is not naturally sexist, he has to fight tendencies to act that way, usually mitigated when around strong females (which he actually finds more attractive, but hates to admit it).
He enjoys most of all competition...a running race, an arm wrestling contest, you name it. Because of this, he has a bit of a weakness for gambling, especially if there's some skill involved...cards, horse betting, etc. He would not be above betting on a flight or a clutch, that's for sure.
He can be absolutely relied on to do that with which he has been charged, though. And if one gets through to him...he's an incredible friend.
History:
Brecan is a trader brat, born in the back of a wagon and raised on the road. Never having spent any time in one place, he has the personality of a nomad. Home is family and family is home. Location means nothing.
His father was not a pleasant man. Harsh and authoritarian, not to mention a little sexist, he tried to turn Brecan into a miniature of himself. He only partially succeeded, his son having more natural caring and compassion. He learned early, though, how to act in order to appease his sire.
His future was set. He was the eldest son, he would work with his father until the latter was ready to retire and then take over from him. This was duty, and one's duty was not to be shirked. Even the return of Thread changed nothing except the patterns of their travel. Traders had always dealt with Thread, they had their roads and their ancient shelters.
Nothing changed until they stopped at Danac Hold in the shadow of the weyr. Two riders came to see what goods they had, and one of the dragons noted Brecan. Some men would have refused to give their eldest child to the Weyr. Toran's obsession with duty, though, took on a new form. Letting Brecan go was a sacrifice of duty.
What will he become, though, now his path is not set along family channels?
Pets: Brown firelizard Guess, green firelizard Stare
Other: Good with runnerbeasts.
-If a Rider:
Dragon Name: Apolloth
Dragon Color: Tan
Dragon Size: 42 Meters
Dragon Age: Weyrling
Appearance: Apolloth is large for a Tan, but more in length than in bulk. He has a slender, lithe build with a long, skinny neck and a whiplike tail. His hide is a very pale, creamy color that almost veers towards white. He is, admitedly, a rather handsome dragon, and he knows it. He carries himself with an arrogant poise.
Personality: Apolloth may look nice, but his personality is far from it. He breaks the usual mold of Tans. He is not quiet and unassuming. Rather, he is a downright jerk. His best quality is honesty, but it usually manifests in rude or mean comments about his fellow dragons. He is a greedy creature, and he is jealous if other dragons get something he wants. He will stop at nothing to see his desires fulfilled, and he can be very charming when he is trying to get something he wants, such as a pretty female or an exemption from a weyrling lesson. Once he has it, though, he’s back to his usual brash, arrogant self.
Inspiration: Apollo, the sun god.
