Two thousand Turns have passed since Pern was colonized. As the Turns passed, the population grew and grew. With all of the population explosion on every planet, there is the risk of plague. Five hundred turns after Pern was colonized, a plague sweeped through the inhabitants. A cure was found before it got any further out of hand.
A thousand turns later, Pern was enjoying a very fruitful Interval. But something was different. Besides the original five colors of dragon, firelizards, and whers, there were five new colors. Bloodstone females that were red blending into darker redish black that were very similar to the Gold Queens, Amethyst males that rivalled the bronzes, Moonstones that were similar in size to the browns, Lapis females that were thought to be female blues with an odd sheen, and Diamonds that were a complete oddity in and of themselves.
All of Pern was surprised at such odd colored dragons, but accepted them. They decided they were due to the plague that had ravaged Pern a thousand turns ago. And after several hundred turns, the population explosion ground to a halt. And then, no more human children were born, and no one could figure out why. It had followed a plague that had ran through Pern's human female population, secretly rendering nearly all of the human females sterile. Healers began looking into the problem to find a solution, but nothing could be found to help.
For the next two hundred turns, the population began to dwindle down. Finding Candidates for clutches on the sands was hard. No mother or father wanted their children to be taken and put to the Eggs. Because of this, hatchlings died on the sands, not being able to find their lifemates. And then, fifty turns ago, something happened.
Far away on planet Earth, there was chaos. The governments scrambled to rescue as many of their people as possible. For not too far from Earth, hurdling towards it with reckless abandon, a huge meteor was aimed right at Earth. Spaceships were built and prepared for travel, people boarded and left their home. Out of the whole population of Earth, only two spaceships managed to leave before the meteor hit Earth. One day later, the meteor hit and the whole planet was destroyed. There was nothing left of planet Earth, except for debris of where the planet had been. Homes, people, places, families, memories.... all gone. Nothing was left.
On the spaceships, they were filled to the brim. Scarcely any room to move around. Thankfully there were enough chambers for everyone to get into for hyper-sleep. And it took them several years to reach Pern. An astronomer aboard one of the ships had remembered hearing from his ancestors about an expedition to a planet and had found it on his astronomy map. Hence they made arrangements to head there in the hopes that the expedition had been successful. Five turns ago, the two ships landed on Pern and they were welcomed by the Pernese with open arms, if a bit suspicious and curious. And with the arrival of the survivors of Earth, there is hope that maybe, just maybe, Pern would thrive again.
Have you got what it takes to help repopulate Pern? Or even bond with one of Pern's Dragons?
