You know K'laonMine, I think someone should just make us the official weyrlingmasters. Amirinth rumbled as she lay down at the back of the classroom once again.
"If they did that, they might not let us be Wingleaders though." K'laon shrugged. "And I sure don't want to be official anything that has to do with baby dragons."
Amirinth rumbled. We get to boss around every color this way. And someday, Mine. She hadn't figured it out yet, but Amirinth would somehow get Hers dealing with hatchlings more than just sneaking in to run the neglected weyrling lessons. Maybe if we stopped sneaking in though, Tekisith would come back. He's just lazy.
"I doubt it. Call the mini-bugs."
Yes sir! Amirinth looked towards the entrance of the classroom as though it made a difference. Little ones! You have a weyrling lesson! And it's okay if you hurt yourselves on the way here, Amirinth and K'laon will be teaching you to heal!
K'laon sighed. "Don't give them ideas."
It'd be much more interesting than pretending.

Mine? LynMine, we have lessons now. Are we okay to go now? We are learning to heal, that would be an important skill, wouldn't it? Februeth spoke quietly, but it still startled Lyn slightly. Looking up at the sky dragon with no small amount of fondness, Lyn nodded lightly in answer to all her questions. She just couldn't get used to the feeling of having someone that loved her that much, someone that shared her every thought, every feeling and Lyn felt no different sharing things with her than she did keeping them to herself. Februeth needed her, it was an astounding feeling, that feeling of being needed. It was.
Slowly, the yougn woman reached out a hand to touch Februeth lightly on the neck, making the sky turn towards her with a light hearted croon. There was nothing like her baby, not in the entire world. If this was what mothering was like, Lyn was sure she'd been wrong before. No, if loving someone this much was normal... "Let's go then." She'd probably never admit it aloud to anyone, Lyn wasn't a vocal person, she never had been, but with Februeth, she didn't seem to mind, merely gazing up at her with wide whirling eyes as Lyn began to make her way to the lesson.
Healing would be fun, she was sure. Healing was healing and it was something new to learn. Vaguely, she wondered how many of the weyrlings would show up to this lesson, since it was something so interesting. She wasn't fond of the idea of Februeth ever getting hurt, but that didn't really matter because Lyn would look after her. She nearly laughed at herself, since when had she ever been like this over anyone, even her parents hadn't gotten this level of love. Then again, Februeth was so much more than a friend, she was the other half that Lyn hadn't known was missing until she'd found it.
"We're here, sir. Lyn and Februeth." The sky trotted after her, keeping close, though she did croon a soft greeting at the large green. Would she get that big maybe? Or would she stay small? She hoped not...

Did you hear that? She said we have lessons. You are not allowed to hurt yourself though, whatever that silly Green dragon might say. Hearth said grumpily to N'lel.
Not to worry, I wasn't planning on hurting myself. You could always hurt yourself, though. N'lel said. Hearth promptly ignored that. They set off together to the Classroom. N'lel wasn't sure he wanted to learn how to heal, but it was important, or they wouldn't be learning it. He followed Hearth out. Hearth stayed just a little a head of N'lel as they went to the classroom. The room wasn't that full, which meant most of the weyrlings hadn't shown up yet.
Hearth ignored the two dragons in there, and went as far as possible from them both. N'lel followed his dragon, wishing Hearth didn't have to be quite so grumpy about everything. Hearth didn't even look at the other dragons. He lay down and closed his eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Healing? Is that important? What does healing have to do with anything? Valentinth asked Lidi. Lidi tried to answer as best she could.
Well, if you got hurt during Threadfall or something, we would have to know how to heal you, right? Lidi wasn't completely sure what they would be learning to heal. She was pretty sure they would have to cover healing Thread marks on their dragons, as well as themselves.
Valeninth didn't seem to like the idea of getting hurt during Threadfall. She headed out to the classroom happily. Lidi kept up her dragon's pace. There weren't to many people in the classroom. She did notice the Charcoal dragon in the corner ignoring everyone else. If you ask me, Valentinth, Charcoal dragons always seem to be grumpy. She didn't envy the weyrling who had to take care of one of those grumpy Charcoals.
R'kah and Claudiuth
Cluadiuth was being his grumpy self as usual, I see no reason why we need to attend this silly lesson So that if you ever got hurt during threadfall, I would know how to treat you. Instead of you being in pain until a healer could see you. Oh well, ok. I would prefer you to do any healing for me, then anyone else. Exactly my point.
So with that the pair made their way to the lesson, where upon arriving Claudiuth noticed the other charcoal. The presence of the other charcoal made him see red, and he hissed at Hearth. R'kah gave him a light tap on the nose and a stern look. "You are not to hiss at anyone, dragon or human, like that." He said firmly. Having a constantly grumpy, bad tempered dragonet seemed to bring out a more dominant side in R'kah.
Kyrissa and Opheliath
Ooh, ooh. Did you hear that? We are getting to learn about healing. The sky dragonet was practically bouncing with excitement as Kyrissa got herself ready for the lesson. "Yes, I heard. Although it will be me learning to heal, you will just be there as you cannot be left alone yet. Even then, I would not want to leave you alone." Opheliath gave a soft croon at that, nuzzling against Kyrissa's leg.
"Come on then, lets get going." Kyrissa said as she made for the door, Opheliath eagerly bounded after her. Both of them more or less ran to where the lesson was, Kyrissa coming to a gentle stop just inside the doorway. Opheliath was still bouncing with excitement, even as she crooned a greeting to their teaching dragon. "Kyrissa and Opheliath, reporting for the lesson sir." Kyrissa said, her voice holding a hint of laughter.
((lol, Amirinth's never been referred to as large... x3))
This was a pitiful bunch of weyrlings; why did all but five always seem to shirk their duties? Lessons were duties. The Teal from last time wasn't present now, but a Sky seemed to have replaced him. K'laon's wide mouth curved to a slight frown. They all pretty-much lived together, they could just wake their weyrling-mates up, or something.
Maybe this is why Tekisith's was not so eager to come teach, Amirinth rumbled. Hello, little ones. She loved being able to call them that, although she wouldn't be able to for long. Even the smallest dragons in this clutch would outgrow the little Green.
"Today," K'laon began, ignoring Amirinth, "I'll be giving you a lesson on basic dragon healing." Thank Faranth none of the hatchlings had taken Amirinth's advice and hurt themselves on the way here. "Yes, we have Healers very capable of tending to dragon injuries here, but one should always know how to at least help when it comes to treating their own dragon, and it saves the Healers a lot of work." They liked that.
"So, what we'll do today is simply pretend your dragon has an injury, and fix it. Mostly, you will be working with threadscores, but it's also possible that a dragon can get scratched or even accidentally flamed if they're in the wrong place at the wrong time, so know that there can be a whole lot of things that you may have to be treating your dragon for." At least they didn't really get sick, that would be a major pain.
Amirinth had to put in her two bits now. When Thread isn't falling, we have games too, and those than sometimes be dangerous. The dragons here probably wouldn't ever really deal with that, but when Amirinth was younger, she had. They were fun, it was sort of a pity they were all too busy training for Threadfall now.
K'laon gave his dragon an irritated look. Don't interrupt. "We won't be using numbweed or anything today; a lot has been, um, used up recently, and there's not much point in using it when no one's actually injured anyways. But we have these buckets," he motioned to where they rested against the walls, "with some paste stuff of similar texture and stuff. ((This isn't like glue paste, it's basically just some oil/water with some stuff mixed in to give it a thicker texture. =P Just in case anyone was confused. xP))
"You're too imagine that you've been fighting Thread, but your dragon got scored on one of its wingsails." They were likely spots anyways, being so spread out from the rest of the dragon. "It's gotten the thread off, but it hurts so you want to rub some numbweed on, then wash out the wound one it's sunk in a bit. If it's a really bad score, you'd need to sew it up, but we can't exactly practice that." He shrugged. "Try it on some ripped fabric or something- wherhide would do well, if you want some real practice."
They didn't have any of that, it was a pity K'laon only just thought of it. Another reason we should get fire-lizards, K'laonMine, Amirinth commented sadly. Then she turned to the weyrlings, quickly brightening up again. For the most part though, you want to avoid Thread, or you'll get lots of nasty scars. And once you all finish, we get to play a game! Anyways, ask K'laonMine if you need help. This shouldn't be that complicated, but one never knew. These hatchlings had turned bathing into a bad thing.
A game? Hearth didn't want to play a game. He snorted. Hearth didn't want to pretend he was hurt either. That meant he was weak, which wasn't a good thing. Being hurt was weak in his opinion. N'lel didn't understand the instructions that well. They were supposed to take paste and act like it was numbweed?
Well, if those were their instructions, then that was what he would do. Hearth ignored him as he went to get a bucket of the paste. He took some fabric to soak it in, then went back to Hearth, who recoiled, his wings firmly on his sides. You are not putting any of that on my wing! he snapped. You're supposed to be wounded Hearth. That's why I'm doing this. I'm not injured, just because they say we should act like it doesn't mean I am!
Hearth reluctantly showed N'lel one of his wings. N'lel wasn't really sure what he was supposed to do; he had never worked with numbweed or anything like it. He carefully soaked the rag and applied some of the paste to Hearth's wingsail. This is silly and a waste of time Hearth informed his rider.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lidi listened carefully. She didn't understand why they were acting like they had numbweed, but whatever. She went to get a bucket and a rag. She ran back to Valentinth, who had already spread out both her wings in excitement. Hurry LidiMine! Lidi ran over to the first wing she went by. Valeninth folded up the other.
After sticking the rag in the paste substance, Lidi carefully rubbed it over the wingsail. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to leave the rag or take it off. She took it off and put it back in the bucket. She wasn't what to do now. He said to let it sink in a bit, so she would do that. How will paste sink into my wing? Valeninth asked. I don't think it will, we're going to pretend like it does Lidi tried to explain.

So... We must rub this goo in if we get burnt or cut? Curiously, the young sky posed her question, glancing up at Lyn as the girl forced herself to drag her attention away from the speaking and onto explaining. She liked learning, not teaching, she wasn't good at teaching. Oh well, she supposed for Februeth she could learn how to teach, "Well, not quite. This is just practice. If you really got hurt, I'd use proper numbweed." Even, cool and practical, it wasn't normally the tone Lyn adopted with Februeth but the sky nodded none the less. It looks icky. "It probably feels it too." Ew, she'd hate to have that gooey stuff on her fingers, or between them for too long, that would be just... Gross, even if she wasn't generally a squeamish person. Then I shall have to make sure not to get hurt, so you must not have to use the icky stuff. "Sounds like a plan."
She didn't like the idea of stitching... Possibly because she didn't like the idea of her little baby being that badly hurt, she didn't like to think of Februeth being hurt at all! Bad things happened, she knew, she just... Didn't want them happening to her bonded. Numbweed, small nicks, she could deal with, it was like a graze. Stung a little but you washed it and you put a dab of numbweed on and all fixed! The bigger the hurt though, the more it took to heal it and sometimes... Sometimes they just couldn't heal. That would never happen to Februeth though, Lyn would take extra special care of her.
"Come on, let's practice." Okay! Bouncing after her bonded as Lyn moved towards the older dragon and rider pair, Februeth was quite amazed at how big the green actually was. She'd known before that she was indeed, a large green but standing closer the sky had to tilt her head back to see her properly. Lyn smiled slightly, she could tel Februeth was really more interested in the game that would come, but she was like Lyn in that she knew she had to do the work first.
Taking a small sample of the goo, Lyn moved away again, pressing a kiss to Februeth's nose as the sky turned to face her, which caused a trill-like giggle from the sky. "Spread your wing out for me, please." The request was instantly met, as Februeth did as she was asked, stretching out her wing with a curious look at Lyn began to smear the goo on. It tickles!

Kyrissa and Opheliath Opheliath let one of her wings trail as she walked over to the table with the byckets of paste. However she hadn't relied on her foot to snag itself on the afore mentioned wing, causing a squeal of pain. Ow, ow, ow. Sorry Kyrissamine. I seem to have given you a real injury to work on. Kyrissa let out a soft gasp, hurrying to untangle Opheliath's foot from her wing. "Oh Opheliath, dearheart." Kyrissa crooned softly at her dragonet, before she looked up at K'laon. "There is a small tear sir. Might it need numbweed and a stitch or two?" Her voice quivered as she asked the question, her eyes tearing at the thought of Opheliath actually being in pain. R'kah and ClaudiuthI am not pretending any such thing Claudiuth huffed grumpily, there was no way he would lower himself to such a thing. "Claudiuth, it is for practice. Would you rather actually be hurt, like that little sky dragonet over there?" Claudiuth threw a glare in Opheliath's direction, I will never get hurt or injured. "Oh, you are so sure of yourself. What makes you think that?" R'kah shook his head slightly in disbelieve as he collected one of the buckets that held the pretend numbweed paste. "Come on now Claudiuth, let me see a wing." He requested as he returned to the charcoal's side. Only as it is you. Claudiuth reluctantly unfurled a wing, to which R'kah wasted no time in smearing on some of the paste. That feels so horrible. When can we wash it off?

K'laonMine, she looks almost intimidated! Amirinth rumbled cheerfully as the Sky hatchling looked up at her. Someday, it was obvious, Februeth would be plenty bigger than the smallest Green in the Weyr. But not today! This was, among many reasons, why Amirinth loved doing weyrling lessons. She could feel big.
K'laon ignored his dragon, much more distracted by squeal of pain coming from the other Sky. "Shards!" She actually had gotten hurt. He did his best not to look too shocked by this though; K'laon was an experienced dragonrider, he could deal with a little tear like that.
"Yeah, she will..." Now he needed to go get the stuff though, and deal with it... "We don't have numbweed in here," these were weyrlings though, it sure seemed like they should have had real supplies in the barracks, "so I'll go get some..." He gave the two Charcoals his famous sour look before leaving. "Don't let anyone else get hurt, Amirinth's in charge." He'd be right back... this would just be an unforseen pain.
Bug, this is your fault.
Oh, completely! Amirinth is sorry for not teaching the hatchlings to walk! The Green made a good attempt at rolling her eyes, color swirling around their rim, as her rider hurried out of the classroom, then immediately switched to friendly as she turned and nuzzled the injured Sky. We'll fix you up in a jiffy, Mine is very good at healing wounds. Amirinth can show you. She had been flying Thread since it started falling, the Green had collected a fair collection of injuries, and had them all fixed up. Before the Weyr had come about (and she had gotten into plenty of painful fixes before then too), K'laon had needed to do most of the fixing-up of injuries. This wasn't anything new... just irritating for him.

Valentinth looked over with surprise at the Sky dragon. How had she hurt herself. LidiMine! How did that dragon hurt herself? I notice she snagged her wing. I never did that. Is she clumsier than the rest of us, LidiMine? I really don't know, Valentinth. It could happen to anyone, even you. Valentinth nervously moved her wing closer to herself, wishing she could tuck it in. Don't worry, as long as you're careful, nothing should happen. Valeninth agreed and put her wing out again.
Lidi wondered when K'laon would get back. She didn't know when she could rinse off Valeninth's wing. Valeninth wasn't to keen on having it out either, now that the thought of stepping on it was presented to her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That dragon is ridiculous. She deserves to get hurt if she can't watch herself Hearth said, completely uncaring about the injury the Sky dragon had obtained. When do I get to take this goop off? Numbweed is one thing, but this is just a gooey mess that will get all over me. We will all end up like that silly dragon over there. That isn't very nice Hearth. Would like someone to say that if you got hurt? N'lel wished Hearth could care a little bit more about the injured dragon, even though she would likely be fine.
I am not ridiculous like that dragon, and it would not happen to me. Hearth does not need to worry about such nonsense. N'lel couldn't be sure if Hearth really thought that, or if he was angry about being asked. N'lel hadn't liked the fact K'laon had had to glare at Hearth before leaving. If Hearth put a little more effort into not being so mean and grumpy, maybe everyone would trust him a little more.
R'kah and Claudiuth
Claudiuth felt that K'laon had no reason to glare at him like that, and started after him, to give him a piece of his mind. Why I ought to tear that man to shreds for the way he just looked at me. No, you will not. R'kah ordered sharply, yet the charcoal kept moving towards his target, going so far as to get to the doorway. R'kah leapt on him, bringing his arm round in front of Claudiuth's neck. Claudiuth felt a weight come down on him, and saw the arm come round in front of him, and bit down, not realizin it was R'kah. "YOOOOuch. Claudiuth!!" R'kah's voice was a mix of pain and anger, the charcoal snaked his head round with contrition whirling in his eyes. I am so sorry R'kah. I didn't mean to hurt you. I really didn't. "I will be fine Claudiuth." R'kah soothed his charcoal, holding the bitten arm across his chest.
Kyrissa and Opheliath Kyrissa sat on the floor beside Opheliath as K'laon went to get the things they'd need to fix Opheliath's wing. She could feel the pain, almost as if it was her arm that had gotten hurt, but common sense told her it was only her feeling what her dragonet did. Both her and Opheliath looked round at R'kah's cry of pain, so he had gotten hurt now too. Even more for K'laon to deal with, she kind of felt sorry for him with what had happened so far and what might yet happen.
"Faranth, didn't I say to not get anyone else hurt?" K'laon was quick to notice the injured boy as he returned. And it figured he was a Charcoalrider, that wasn't much more than he could have expected, apparently.
He tried to eat you first, Amirinth commented. I think the boy saved your life.
I don't care, it's another stupid injury I have to deal with. K'laon hesitated a moment while he tried to decide which wound needed more immediate attention. This must be why the real weyrlingmaster kept assistants. Eventually he decided on the boy; humans weren't nearly as strong as dragons, even hatchlings.
"So you got... bit?" It was easy enough to recognize what the injury was, even if it was one that someone should never see coming from a dragon. K'laon set down his buckets of numbweed and oil and roughly took the boy's arm to look it over more thoroughly, meanwhile mumbling under his breath about how he was never going to teach weyrling lessons again. "Doesn't look too bad. Just keep some pressure on it til it stops bleeding (('cause I'm taking the benefit of the doubt and saying it is xP)) and then I'll help you out with it more." Supposing he couldn't deal with it himself, anyways. K'laon wound a rag tightly around the boy's arm. "Hold it there."
That somewhat taken care of, K'laon headed over to the injured Sky. "Anyone who wants to see how to really treat a dragon can come on over... but don't crowd." He inspected Opheliath's wing through sight, habitually waiting for permission to touch another person's dragon. "Sorry to make a show out of you, but I figure we may as well make use of the situation." He shrugged. "Anyways, you want to clean off the wound and then put numbweed on, but before you do any of that get this oil on your hands," he pointed to the bucket, "because you don't want your own hands getting numbed."
Amirinth rumbled. That doesn't help at all when you're trying to treat someone. It happened to Mine once- A glare from K'laon kept the Green from going into the story.
