Now that Amirinth and K'laon were a bit more practiced in this, the pair figured they would pop in and try for another Weyrling lesson. There were a bunch of new colors to be inspected anyways; Amirinth was particularly interested in these new Teals. What fun to have a male the size of Browns that was almost the same color as her!
This time they snuck in a bit earlier and had to set things up themselves, but that wasn't too hard. All they had to do was gather some buckets of food and oil, not hard at all with Amirinth to get the food and K'laon capable of everything else.
And Amirinthlove will actually get oiled at the oiling deminstration this time, right K'laonMine? Amirinth asked as she settled at the head of the classroom.
"If you're good bug. No flirting with the hatchlings."
They're a whole day old now! She had no plans to do that though, and at her riders command, sent out a call to all the new dragonets. It was early morning, but there was never a time that a hatchling wouldn't appreciate a good meal or a good bath, and it was better that weyrlings learned proper technique early anyways. Here hatchlings! Amirinth has a lovely surprise for you in the classroom! Bring Yours!
"A lovely surprise, bah," K'laon muttered as he relaxed against Amirinth's shoulder. "There's nothing on Pern worse than weyrling lessons."
Especially when they're taught by K'laonMine. Amirinth rumbled. Let's have some fun with them.

Kyrissa had slept roughly the night before, dreaming of tons of horrid ways for Opheliath to be taken from her. She was still tossing and turning in the bed furs when Opheliath gently nudged her shoulder. Kyrissamine, we are expected in the classroom. There is a surprise waiting, apparently. "Hmm, huh, what? a surprise?" Kyrissa was still half asleep and the early wake up didn't help any. Yes mine. A surprise. "Ok Opheliath. I'm getting up." She slipped her feet over the side of the bed, then yanked them back under the furs as if she'd been burned. The floor was sure cold, yet being stone, that shouldn't have surprised her. Instead she crawled to the end of the bed and opened her chest.
"Hmmm, which tunic today?" She mused, more asking herself then Opheliath. Opheliath rolled her eyes, if a dragon was capable of rolling their eyes. The dragonet dug her snout into the chest, grasped one of the tunics in her mouth, then deposited it in Kyrissa's lap. Kyrissa watched her sky dragonet with amazement, not thinking a dragonet would take it into their mind to pick out their soulmates clothes. "Oh, thank you Opheliath." She stuttered, removing her nightgown and replacing it with the tunic. She picked up the nearest pair of trousers and pulled them on, then put on her boots before getting off the bed.
"Come on then dearheart. We do not want to be late for our first lesson." She helped Opheliath down from the stone couch, then together they set off for the classroom. Luckily enough, it was a matter of a few metres and one turn from their little weyr. "Morning sir." Kyrissa greeted K'laon, rubbing sleep from her eyes. She really wasn't her best in the morning. Good morning Opheliath intoned cheerily to both dragon and rider.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
R'kah, on the other hand, had been laying awake, staring at the ceiling for most of the night. Other thoughts had been on his mind, like whether he would really make a good rider, or if he was really responsible enough to look after a dragon. He was still thinking on it when Claudiuth awoke to the green's call. The charcoal dragonet tilted his head with a perplexed look. R'kah. I chose you, so of course you are responsible enough. Now get out of that bed. There is a surprise in store for us in the classroom.
"What? Ok, if you say so Claudiuth. A surprise, for us?" He scrambled to his knees on the bed, looking around for his clothes. That is what I said! In moments he had found suitable clothing and donned them. Now where were his sharding boots? Where in Faranth's name had they gone? Aha. There you are boots. Thought you could hide huh? Claudiuth shook his head as if he thought R'kah was mad. The boy quickly pulled on his boots then stood up and looked around, wondering if he had remembered everything. With a nod he headed out the door and towards the classroom, Claudiuth not far behind. They entered the classroom, side by side and R'kah bowed to the dragon and rider, and sent Kyrissa a smile. "Good morning sir. I hope you slept well" He said politely, while Claudiuth sat at his side glaring at everyone.
"Early morning for you, it would appear." K'laon grinned as the first weyrling showed up rubbing her eyes. "What does she get for being first, bug? All weyrlings really seem a lesson in promptness, why don't we teach that?"
Good morning, little one, Amirinth said to the Sky hatchling, taking replying to her as a chance to decide what they could possibly give as rewards for being early. Amirinthlove will not lick them, how about?
Some of these kids might like having you lick them. Any other ideas?
Another is coming.
"A bubbly pie it is then." K'laon glanced towards the door as he spoke, hopefully that wouldn't confuse the single female present. He laughed as the boy greeted him. "Slept well? With Amirinth around and a celebration? Don't hope for me to sleep well, hope for sleep." K'laon's wide mouth turned up in a joking grin. He really didn't care one way or another, and he slept like a rock most nights, despite his dragon and going-ons around the Weyr.
Amirinth doesn't believe the boy was talking to K'laonMine. Does number two get anything?
His dragon looks like it's on fire. That's plenty. Had the boy been speaking to him? Maybe he was taking the example he hadn't been there for that K'laon made and talking without looking at his subject.
He looks more like a dying fire to Amirinthlove. Amirinth stretched her head towards the Charcoal, sniffing curiously and wondering if he would bite her nose. He had an angry enough look.
K'laon turned to the two weyrlings present. "Think anyone else is planning on showing up? Last I counted there were fourteen of you, and unless a dozen died overnight, this just can't be enough to get us started."
Lupercaliath wants to learn!
The hyper teal bounced as his rider scrubbed the sleep from his eyes. D'raco groaned when his eyes focused on the bouncing hatchling, and shut them again.
"Lu, why? Why?"
Lu? Who's Lu? I wanna eat, and learn something! Can we learn something today- Hey! That wasn't very nice. D'racoMine, that brown wasn't very nice to bit Lupercaliath on the tail like that!
Covering a yawn, he dragged yesterday's tunic over his head to get breakfast ready for his dragon.
"Gory, don't do that. Vinny, wake up!"
Gory seemed to have taken a dislike to the teal, and was going to show that at every chance. Vinny, on the other hand, hissed sleepily as D'raco prodded his side.
"Time to eat, guys, and then to weyrling lessons."
Oh goodie! D'racoMine, I'm awful empty, in belly and head!
D'raco groaned again, and shuffled his way out to where the weyrlings would get their breakfast.
_~_
After feeding Lupercaliath, Vinny, and Gory ((the latter having bitten the former's tail another ten times)), D'raco washed himself quickly, and pulled on a new tunic and trousers. A quick bite in the Lower Caverns, coaxed out of one of the cooks, and he and Lu were ready for the day.
Here hatchlings! Amirinth has a lovely surprise for you in the classroom! Bring Yours!
Lupercaliath bounded into D'raco again, driving the tall boy to his knees on his way to the lesson room.
"Watch it, Lu! Vinny, don't do that."
The slothful brown was trying to drape himself over one of Lupercaliath's eyes, blinding him on the side Gory was trying a sneak attack on.
"Gory!"
How fond are you of that bitie one?
Lupercaliath was eyeing the sneaking brown with distinct distaste.
"No eating Gory. It's bad for your digestion. Anyways, we're here."
Indeed, they had arrived at their destination. Lupercaliath bounded into the room ahead of D'raco, and had a question for Amirinth.
Can I eat Mine's bad brown?
Opheliath crooned happily as she got a reply from the green. Kyrissa frowned at K'laon's seemingly random comment yet didn't say anything. Perhaps he had been talking to his dragon, it was a possibility.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Claudiuth growled deep in his throat, a slow rumbling growl of warning. He was letting the green know she had better back off or else. "Claudiuth, be nice!" R'kah rolled his eyes, he knew he would have a hard time keeping his dragonet in line. Perhaps it was the so called 'ember marks' or perhaps it was the overall ashy blackness that covered his hide.

Are you up yet? Hearth asked grumpily. N'lel muttered something about not wanting to get up. Wel, you have to, we are due in the classroom Hearth waited not very patiently a little. Get up, Mine! "I'm getting up, I'm getting up" N'lel moaned. He got and looked at his dragon through bleary eyes. Hearth asked if he was up yet.
Yes, I'm ready, let's go. N'lel started out. Hearth complained the whole way there. He kept talking about how they would have to do something less than fun, and how N'lel should be able to get up when he needed to. N'lel ignored his dragon as well as he could. He new Characoals were grumpy dragons, but he wished his dragon was bigger, that way he might not be quite so grumpy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LidiMine, you need to get up! Valentinth pleaded with her. I am up, Valentinth, just not completely yet. Well, you must get up now, or we will be late.
Lidi got up and yawned, then got ready to leave, brushing her hair so it wasn't a mess. Valentinth looked around nervously. We won't be late Lidi soothed her. With that, she started off. Valentinth followed her eagerly. Lidi wondered what they were doing, and repressed the urge to ask the Weyrling Master's dragon. They would find out soon enough.
Claudiuth hissed warningly at the newcomers, all of them had better keep their distance from him and his chosen. Tawny chirped welcome from R'kah's shoulder, earning himself a less then friendly glare from Claudiuth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kyrissa and Opheliath thought the barred dragonet looked lovely. She is not as special as me though. No, indeed she is not. None could compare to you dearheart. Opheliath crooned happily at Kyrissa's comment, rubbing her head lovingly against Kyrissa's leg.

Amirinth's eyes whirled happily at the Teal's question. Only if Yours says so, little one. But the little dragons don't taste very good. She hadn't actually tried eating one yet, but she had tried an egg she found on a beach once and hadn't been too impressed.
Easily distracted, Amirinth rumbled as the Charcoal growled at her. As long as she was bigger than him, she had very few worries about him doing anything more than acting annoyed with her. That wasn't likely to last long, but the idea that he could get revenge once he was large enough to do so didn't occur to the Green. And more weyrlings were showing up, so she soon completely forgot about the grumpy hatchling. This is looking better, yes K'laonMine?
Yep. I figure this is enough. If others wanted to show up late, they could go ahead and do so. K'laon wasn't going to keep those present waiting. "Today you all will get to learn to give your dragons baths, but first we're going to feed them, alright? Hopefully I don't have to teach you how to do that, since you have all hopefully fed them before." If any of the dragons present hadn't eaten anything yet, K'laon was surprised they hadn't eaten their lifemates.
Despite that, there are a few guidelines, Amirinth added, letting her voice broadcast to everyone present in the room. She didn't like talking to humans other than Hers, but figured she needed to when she was teaching. Don't let hatchlings eat chunks too big for them, it's not hard to choke, even on yummy meat. K'laonMine and Amirinth have torn up the meat here into smaller bits, but some might still be too big for your dragon; Amirinth hopes you are not squeamish about ripping apart bloody things. You'll be doing it for a while.
K'laon nodded. "We've got buckets over there, and once you feed them, we'll move onto the next part of the lesson." They had oil ready too, but the buckets were sitting less noticibly in the corners of the room.
If anyone wants a visual demonstration, Amirinth is very good at eating, by the way. K'laon glared at the Green as she spoke, but the Green just rumbled happily. She wouldn't mind a snack.

N'lel hid back a grimace of horror at the thought of feeding his dragon with bloody meat. He moved carefully forward to the meat, and tried to stay as clean as possible as he ripped it apart and fed pieces to his dragon. This is yummy, N'lelMine Hearth crooned. I'm glad someone thinks so N'lel answered. He hoped Hearth would finish eating quickly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Valentinth moved forward cheerfully along with Lidi. Lidi care fed Valentinth pieces of meat. Valentinth was in a happy mood at the moment. LidiMine, when we finish feeding me, I will be ready for my bath. Lidi smiled at her dragon, knowing that Valentinth was just as excited about this as she was. Lidi looked down at her bloody clothes, and almost giggled. She felt like a silly little kid making a mess.
Both R'kah and Kyrissa weren't too keen on the idea of ripping meat, but they knew their dragonets needed to eat.
R'kah and Claudiuth
R'kah went over to collect a bucket of meat before returning to Claudiuth's side. He carefully ripped the chunks of meat, attempting to use the lay of the meat as a guideline. Claudiuth crooned happily at getting fed, but still glared at anyone that thought to get too close to him or his. R'kah gradually built up the speed he was tearing the meat, until he was feeding one piece and relacing three or four smaller pieces into the bucket before ripping apart another larger piece.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kyrissa and Opheliath
Kyrissa collected a bucket for her own use and started to gingerly rip the meat into smaller pieces. Do not think on it to much Mine. Opheliath encouraged, crooning softly. Kyrissa smiled down at her beautiful sky dragonet and found herself tearing the meat faster. Opheliath nudged her leg every time she'd finished with one piece and was ready for another and Kyrissa happily obliged.
Soon both their dragonet's hunger was sated and they thought themselves dab hands at ripping up meat.

Amirinth's tail twitched impatiently as she watched the dragonets eat, but eventually they all finished and K'laon decided it was time to move on.
"In that corner," he pointed to his right, "are buckets of oil and rags for you to use, be sure to grab one of each. We'll be heading out to the lake now."
No reason to wash away from water, anyways, Amirinth added cheerfully as she bumped K'laon towards the buckets too. And this Amirinth will get to demonstrate! She was good and ready for a bath.
You don't need to shove bug, I'm going. K'laon grabbed a bucket and started out towards the lake. Amirinth slipped out of the classroom and followed, her stride as bouncy as any hatchling's. Once they arrived, the Green waded to where the water was about up to her belly. K'laon set down his bucket and waited out of splashing distance of his dragon. Amirinth was as unpredictable in the water as Kelth's most recent clutch had been.
Get into the water however deep you feel you and Yours can manage, Amirinth called to the dragonets, paying little attention to how close to the lake they were.

N'lel hurriedly grabbed a bucket and a rag, then went as fast as he could to catch up to Hearth, who was following right behind Amirinth, grumbling and not waiting for N'lel to catch up. Hearth waited for N'lel on the lake's edge, then started in. He kept going further into the water, as though stubbornly insisting he wasn't that small.
"I don't think we should go this far... Hearth!" N'lel shouted. The dragon just a bit to far in, and was now completely submerged in water. N'lel waded up to his dragon and tried to pull him out with one hand. He finally got Hearth in water where he just barely stayed above. "I really think we should go somewhere shallower." Why? I'm not so short I shouldn't go this far
"I'm sure you feel that way, but this is just a little to deep. Amirinth said where both of us where comfortable." Fine! But just because you are scared of deep water doesn't mean the rest of us are. "I didn't say I was scared of deep water" N'lel mumbled, more to himself than Hearth.
Hearth moved quite stubbornly to shallower water. Next time, we will go in deeper, this is to shallow, everyone else will go out farther Hearth grumbled. The others will go out further because they are bigger. You know, being small isn't a bad thing. Hearth snorted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LidiMine! Do hurry up. We will be the last ones there! Valentinth crooned anxiously. "I'm coming, I'm coming" Lidi moaned. She grabbed up a bucket and rag hurriedly, then walked alongside her dragon to the lake. Valeninth stayed a little ahead of her, excited at the prospect of a bath.
When the reached the water, Valentinth studied it for a moment, then nervously waded in. Before Lidi was even up to her knees, Valentinth said they were far enough. Scared of water? No, just nervous for the first time. We can go deeper when I'm older.
Kyrissa and Opheliath
Come on, come on. This should be fun. Opheliath crooned happily, she still felt dirty from when she hatched even she's had a good wash then. She went and picked up a rag in her mouth then bounded back and behind Kyrissa, who hadn't moved an inch. She nudged at her chosen's legs, making her stagger forward. "Ok Opheliath. I get the message." She replied and went to pick up a bucket with Opheliath almost skipping beside her. That is, if a dragonet can skip. They followed the green and it's rider out and down to the lake.
Opheliath looked around in wonder and amazement. Oooh. It's pretty out here. Kyrissa smiled at her dragonet's comment. "Yes it is. Now give me the rag please, and join our teaching dragon in the water." Ophelaith obligingly dropped the rag onto Kyrissa's open hand and bounded into the water. One step in however and she backed right out.
Brrrrr, it is cold in there. "Get on in there silly." She gave her dragonet a push towards the water, after setting down the bucket of oil. Yes, she'd meant for Opheliath to go in the water, but instead found herself doing a faceplant onto the lake's bank. "Oh, there is no need to be so silly Opheliath. I am sure the water is...." She'd dipped her hand in the water then hastily snatched it back out. "...Cold!"
R'kah and Claudiuth
"Come on then Claudiuth. You heard our teachers." R'kah went and collected a bucket and rag, while Claudiuth, well he stayed where he'd been. I do want a bath, but I am not going anywhere near the others. "Claudiuth, there is no need to be so grumpy all the time. Now come on." Claudiuth let out a draconic sigh as he obeyed his chosen. Whenever he saw the others, dragon or human, looking at him, he gave his most menacing glare. He really wasn't one for social interaction, but he didn't have a choice.
Instead of following R'kah however, Claudiuth led him a little distance along the shore from where the others had gathered. R'kah set down the bucket and resourcefully tied the rag around his neck, like a scarf. Claudiuth dipped one foot into the water, then backed up several steps. I am not going in that water. It is far too cold. "Oh, why did I get lumbered with a grumpy dragon?" R'kah mumbled under his breath, shaking his head in disbelief.
"If you want to get clean, you need to go in the water." He told Claudiuth, even as Tawny chirped at the dragonet. The brown flit thought the dragonet was being silly and told him so. I will eat that little pest one of these days. By Faranth, I will "No you will not. Tawny is my friend and you will do him no harm." Tawny had heard Claudiuth's threat through his bond to R'kah, and frightened, he slid himself into R'kah's tunic. "Now look what you did. You scared him." R'kah growled at Claudiuth, who hissed back. Good, maybe he will leave off the annoying chirping for a while
((Um...yeah, Imma pretend that Drake and Lu did the eating, because I do na wanna type it.))
[lightseagreen]D'raco, you got blood on your sleeve.
Lupercaliath touched his bloody nose to Draco's sleeve, pointing out a tiny spot. Aall it really accomplish was that now D'raco had a much bigger bloodstain on his tunic.
"Lu, don't do that. Get in the water."
D'raco was quickly learning that the best way to deal with his psychotic dragon was to use a very business-like attitude.
Lupercaliath very comically stuck one claw in the water, and yelped.
Cold! It's cold, Mine, and Lupercaliath with eat your brown if he does not stop tryin gto eat Lupercaliath's tail!
Lupercaliath huddled up on the shores of the lake, tail tucked definitively between his legs. Gory was stalking off in the other direction, disgruntled that his sneak attack had ben discovered so quickly.
K'laonMine, they are all cold! Amirinth looked about ready to explode with laughter as she watched the hatchlings shivering at the water's edge. The first Charcoal hadn't had any trouble, but past that? This was just plain silly. Little ones, between will be much colder than any water! You must get used to this!
K'laon shook his head, took off his shirt- it wasn't worth it to wear it around Amirinth, even if she did stay to somewhat shallower waters- and headed into the water. If he could stand it, any dragon could. "C'mon guys, we can't get anywhere if you won't get into the water. See, first you want to rub sand into their hide, and that's at the bottom of the lake." They weren't going to have much luck getting there without getting into the water.
"When dragons first hatch, they grow a lot," K'laon continued as he drew up some sand and rubbed it against Amirinth's shoulder. Her eyes whirled happily at the attention. "You have to rub them down and oil them often so their skin doesn't crack."
A dragon always knows when it needs a bath, Amirinth added. Don't complain if they tell you they itch. It wouldn't do anyone any good if their dragon grew up with a cracked hide; they'd only need more baths and oiling.
"Lu, get in the water."
Their weyrling master seemed irritated with the group of shivering hatchlings, which was not good for D'raco's ambitions.
Lupercaliathdoesn't wanna. Lupercaliath wants to be warm! If D'raco goes first Lupercaliath might go in, but Lupercaliath wants to stay warm. Lupercaliath itches.
The only thing D'raco picked out of that rant was that if he went in, his teal would follow. So, taking a deep breath against the cold, D'raco entered the water.
It was surprisingly warm compared to the temperature he'd been lead to expect by the weyrlings' reactions. He waded out to waist deep, and turned to face Lupercaliath.
"C'mon, Lu. The water's not that bad."
Grumbling, the teal put a foot in the water.
It's still too cold.
D'raco folded his arms, and leveled a glare at Lupercaliath.
"Quit being ridiculous, Lu. Get in the water."
I'm in the water, D'raco. I don't see why you have to keep talking about the water. I don't like it!
"Get in."
Whining, Lupercaliath finally entered the water.
And that brown bit me again.
It took a lot of effort for D'raco not to throw his hands in the air at the ridiculousness of it all.
N'lel shivered slightly, trying to not point out the water was cold. Hearth complained to him how everyone seemed to think the water was cold, when it most certainly wasn't. Mine! I itch! You are supposed to rub me with sand! N'lel sighed, then bent down to grab a handful of sand. He still felt like they were to deep in, even some of the larger dragons were closer to the edge of the lake.
N'lel carefully rubbed the sand all over Hearth. He was quite happy Hearth was so small, he didn't have to rub him as much as if he was bigger. Hearth grumbled just like he always did. N'lel wondered if it was possible to get Hearth less grumpy at all, or any more grumpy either.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please hurry LidiMine! I did not think taking a bath would make Valentinth cold! It's not that cold, Valentinth, you'll be fine Lidi told her, trying to soothe the dragon. She calmly scooped up sand and started rubbing it on her dragon. She looked around at the other weyrlings, ignoring Valentinth's absent fretting about the temperature. Lidi seemed to be a little more used to the cold water than her dragon was.
I thought you wanted to have a bath Lidi teased. I do, but Valentinth did not want to be cold while having a bath! Lidi shook her head, smiling. Valentinth shook slightly, watching the other dragons, but not really paying attention. She wanted to get this bath over with. The longer we are in here, the warmer it will seem Lidi told her dragon. That does not make sense. How will the water get warmer? It won't get warmer, it will seem warmer. But that doesn't seem like it can happen. Water won't just get warmer Valentinth said. Lidi gave up trying to explain to the dragon, and just concentrated on rubbing her down with sand.

Kyrissa and Opheliath Kyrissa saw a few of the other weyrlings going into the water to entice their dragonets in, and she smiled at their ingenuity. Taking a deep breath, she followed suit, wading into the cold water yet trying not to show how it affected her. "Come on Opheliath. I am in the water, why not come and join me?" She said, even as her teeth chattered from the chilliness of the water. Opheliath cocked her head to the side efore giving it a little shake. Fine, I will come in, but be quick with it, please. The little dragonet replied as she started to wade into the water, soon enough she was in front of Kyrissa. "There's my girl." Kyrissa said with a smile, giving Opheliath an affectionate pat before scooping up a handful of sand. She began rubbing it over Opheliath, getting into every crevice she could find. Opheliath moved so that Kyrissa was getting the most itchy places yet not so much that her whole body wasn't getting a good rub of sand. R'kah and ClaudiuthR'kah soon picked up the idea of what the others were doing and decided it just might work for him. Even if he had a grumpy charcoal, surely Claudiuth wouldn't want his chosen to freeze to death in cold water. He backed into the water, beckoning his dragonet to come with him as he went. "Come on now Claudiuth. I will surely die of pneumonia if you do not come in here so I can wash you." Fine! Claudiuth huffed, before he took his time in wading into the water. R'kah scooped up a handful of sand and began rubbing it over Claudiuth's hide as soon as the dragonet reached him. "Now is that not better then feeling itchy?" R'kah asked as he worked the red and black hide with the sand. Yes, it is. Claudiuth replied readily with a soft croon. The sand really did feel nice on his hide, making him feel less itchy and less dirty.

Amirinth snorted as the dragonets still acted cold. Didn't you hear what Amirinth said? This isn't bad at all. K'laon said nothing, figuring that since the dragonets really hadn't experienced many temperatures past the hot sands and their warm eggs, this bathing thing probably came as a shock. It just seemed strange that no hatchlings before now had acted like this.
I'm glad we're not the real Weyrlingmasters, K'laon muttered to his dragon. This is crazy.
Amirinth rumbled. Wingleader is much better. Acting as both was best though, she enjoyed this idea of freaking out all the hatchlings by ruling over them now and after they graduated. Some of them, at least.
"Well." K'laon looked over the weyrlings. "Now that you've all actually gotten your dragons in, bathing them isn't all that hard. When they're good." He glared at Amirinth and the Green feigned a sweet look. She wouldn't be troublesome today, she needed a good bath. "Like I said, you rub them down with sand- once they're older you mostly only have to do the spots they say itch, but right now you want to do everywhere because most places will- and then oil them." Amirinth lowered her head so K'laon could rub down the spot on her throat that always seemed to itch and then the Greenrider went and grabbed the oil and rag.
Flitters come in handy in baths, Amirinth told the weyrlings, but K'laonMine won't get any. Hopefully Yours are smarter. She could see already that some were.
"Oh hush bug," K'laon muttered. "Oiling is pretty easy, you just get the oil and rub it on. Don't let the dragons play in deep water or splash or anything while you're doing though, it needs time to soak in and if they get wet too early it can just wash off." He demonstrated on Amirinth, the dragon purring happily. As he finished one of her shoulders he turned to the weyrlings. "Go ahead and try it yourselves once you're ready, and don't hurry the job, it's an important one. If a dragon's skin isn't properly oiled while it's young, their skin will be a lot harder to care for when they're older."

I don't think it's a good idea, I know it's a great idea!

Lidi listened to everything she was told, then bent down to start oiling Valentinth. She soaked up the rag and started rubbing down the dragon carefully. She didn't want her dragon to not be oiled properly and not have problems when she was older.
Valentinth shivered. Please hurry, LidiMine. This water is quite cold. Really, Valentinth. We were already told that between is a lot colder than this, so you need to get used to it. Valeninth promised to try her best, but Lidi knew she still felt very cold.

N'lel soaked up the rag and started to rub Hearth. Hearth kept up a constant stream of complaints and how this bath could be much better. N'lel wasn't paying much attention, but he thought Hearth said something about how not cold the water was, and how everyone else should stop acting like the water was cold, because it wasn't.
Personally, N'lel thought Hearth just didn't want to admit he might be cold. He was going to get himself hurt one day, trying to prove he was better than he really was. There were only so many limits his dragon could break before Hearth hurt himself, or someone else.
