Amarna came to slowly, to realize that a man had his arms around her, an unknown man. She heard a a sigh in her head and then Holleth said, I couldn't help it, Ekirith was just so strong and great. Amarna untangled herself enough to sit up, notice Ekirith and Holleth together. Holleth had probably chosen the bigger brown because of her shyer nature. Though, remembering the flight, Holleth really hadn't been herself for it. She then turned to look at J'ran, the male in whos arms she lay.
The first thing she noticed was his big build, size and muscle. Like dragon like rider sometimes she thought. Then she noticed the curling brown hair, and finally she noticed the wrinkles. Her only thought on those was that he was probably a very outdoorsy type. Over all, he was too bad on the eye... She was just glad that Holleth had caught the dragon of a whimpy man, or the blue with the female rider... At least it was someone that didn't look too bad.

J'ran started to wake when he felt whoever he was sleeping next to start fighting her way out of his arms. As the memories of what had happened earlier reached him, the Brownrider scrunched his eyes shut, not at all eager to get up and have himself kicked out of the weyr. The last Flight Ekirith had won had ended with J'ran waking to a screaming Shador and a quick order to get food for her hatching fire-lizards. Hopefully that would never happen again, but he and Ekirith were usually shooed out of weyrs quite quickly after a Flight.
It didn't take long for him to decide that getting up would still be better than making an attempt at just lying there forever. The Barredrider- Amarna was it? He didn't know the new graduates well- already wasn't coming across as particularly eager to let him stay. J'ran opened his eyes, looking up to a face already looking down at him.
Well, at least she didn't look half bad. J'ran sat up, smiling a little awkwardly at her. "Morning." Reflexively, he started glancing discreetly around for his clothes. J'ran would never mind it if someone asked him to stay, but since it happened yet and he hardly knew Amarna, it wasn't likely to occur this time around.
Well I'm not going to go looking like I'm expecting to be kicked out. Ekirith nuzzled Holleth while making the sarcastic comment to his rider; the Brown was well practiced at showing affection in different ways to different people at the same time. Kelth had remained fond of him until Wuith caught her, Ekirith figured he could make an attempt at hanging on to this Barred.

"Umm, morning," Amarna said. She wasn't quite sure what to say, and she was kind of shy about finding a stranger with her... But she had known the whole flight thing before she had impressed, and she was not going to be rude to the stranger J'ran just because he had happened to win the flight.
Holleth told her rider, I like Ekirith, he's big, and so sweet... Holleth felt affection for the brown and she hoped that her rider wouldn't be forcing them out of the weyr anytime soon.
Amarna, in all her awkwardness said, "Umm, I'm Amarna..." She wasn't really sure what to say when you found a guy next to you, but she did know that she needed to get dressed, so she got up and started finding clothes to put on. What else was she supposed to do? Nothing in training could ever prepare a person for first flight.

"J'ran." No, they probably weren't going to get to linger. Amarna wasn't looking particularly excited about his being there. She was already getting out and dressing even. J'ran bit back a sigh and got up too, dressing quickly to spare Amarna more awkwardness. There were drawbacks to having your dragon catch on a dragon's first Flight.
Ekirith watched his rider with an irritated expression. We aren’t leaving already, are we? His wasn’t getting sent for food or screamed at in the slightest, yet he was dressing? Or, both were. I hope Mine doesn’t make Yours too anxious, Ekirith said softly to Holleth. Humans were a lovely way to ruin the fun of a win.

Holleth replied to Ekirith, Mine is fine, she just feels sort of awkward... She'll get over it. Holleth was not about to leave her big brown quite so soon. She liked being cuddled up next to Ekirith, she liked the security of it. She did hope that Amarna would approve of the choice, and of the man J'ran. She quite liked Ekirith... but sometimes riders didn't feel the same way.
Amarna really didn't know how to act. She didn't know J'ran really at all, but he seemed polite enough. She had no idea really of what was supposed to happen after... But, she felt like she should make an attempt at trying to get to know the man. She finished dressing and she said shyly, "Well, umm..." She paused for a second to gather her thoughts. What would she say that could keep J'ran from feeling like she wanted to kick him out? He would probably take her solitariness as wanting him gone, and he might freak out about her like of knives... For fear she was threatening to kill him... So, she decided to start with a nice conversation starter, perfect for all awkward meetings of strangers, "Umm, how old are you?" she figured that since he had caught her, it was right that she should know his age. It was kind of hard to tell by his looks.

I can't say Mine is much better. Ekirith rumbled softly. It wasn't as if J'ran hadn't woken in the rooms of enough women in his lifetime, Flights shouldn't be this awkward for him. Men were another story, but that really wasn't Ekirith's problem.
How old was he? J'ran had to think about this, age wasn't something he thought about often. Did it make a difference? He rubbed the back of his head thoughtfully. "Thirty...ish?" He laughed. "I don't keep track very well. Ekirith says I'm younger than that." But he couldn't be by much. "Thank goodness for dragons, hm?"
I'll have it figured out soon, Ekirith added, suddenly irritated that neither he nor his rider knew J'ran's actual age.
Thank you for that reassurance. J'ran's reply was dry, he wasn't all that worried about how old he was as long as he had a general idea. And Amarna? He didn't know if he was allowed to ask a girl's age.

Amarna was slightly surprised by his age. He was about 10 years older than her, maybe a little bit older. She believed that she was about 18, but she might be 19 by now. She asked Holleth, Has 2 or 3 turns gone by since I impressed you?
Holleth thought about it for a second and replied, I believe it has been about 2 and a half turns. Holleth did not move from her position cuddled up beside the brown.
Amarna replied to J'ran, "I could understand how you lose track of age, Once you impress it doens't really matter any more." Once upon a time, age had been such an important thing, and it surprised her to find that she really didn't notice time slipping by now. "I myself am close to 20," Amarna told J'ran.
Holleth snorted quietly in Amarna's mind and said to Ekirith, Mine is 18 turns, she just doesn't want to admit her age.
Amarna wasn't super good at conversation with others, especially now, when she and Holleth were close to each other, but distant from others... But, Amarna planned to at least try. "So. umm, what sort of things do you do?" Amarna asked, and then added as a second thought, "Other than dragons...". She felt so awkward, but at least she was trying... Was she doing everything right?

J'ran nodded. He couldn't expect a new rider like Amarna to be particularly old, but at least she wasn't too young either. Some Candidates Impressed at twelve or thirteen, and fourteen or fifteen-Turn-old riders were still kids in J'ran's opinion. He wasn't old, but having been riding as long as he had, he just felt a lot older than plenty of people at the Weyr, especially these new graduates.
Ekirith rumbled. Twenty-nine. That's it. He spoke to J'ran and Holleth, figuring it only fair to tell her his rider's real age since she had told him hers. Apparently Mine would happily think himself older than he is too. Not a lot though, one Turn wasn't much.
J'ran shrugged at her question. "Other than dragons? I've got no life at all." He laughed. "I go to Gathers, visit home occassionally. Not much." Still, it was probably more interesting than the life he would have had if he had been successful in his original plans to be a wherhandler. "Anything exciting you do?" Anything would be more exciting than what he did in his spare time. Maybe if he had more of it he could come up with something more interesting.
I hope you're not complaining. Ekirith's tone was joking and J'ran smiled crookedly at the dragon.
Of course not.

Amarna was surprised that he didn't seem to have many skills. Wouldn't a dragon rider want to pick up a bunch of hobbies or something? Blushing slightly, Amarna admitted, "Well, I like playing around with knives..." She let that hang, she really didn't want to scare off the guy. She could always mention running, but she wasn't very good at that... and she had been an apprentice harper... though she had failed at that. Well, she could mention harper ,"I was an apprentice harper, but I wasn't extremely good, only mediocre, and I kind of gave up on it after I impressed Holleth."
Holleth then told hers, Mine, I like to hear you play the gitar.
Yet your liking to hear me play does not mean I am that good. Amarna told Holleth.

J'ran's lips tightened as Amarna told him her hobby. "I grew up working in the mines, and I think messing needlessly with weapons is still more dangerous." Whers and unstable, man-made burrows in poisonous-air-pocked earth he could stand. Knives he did not. Of course he knew how to wield the average weapon, but a dagger couldn't fight Thread. That was their job now.
"Mmm." Music wasn't nearly as bad, good actually; J'ran even had a couple harpers in his family. "And so maybe you see better why I don't do much else now that I've got Ekirith?" Except he had ridden the Brown much longer than Amarna had the Barred. What with being Wingleader, and being a dragonrider at all, it kept him busy. Ekirith was a pushy dragon too.
Nuh-uh. He rumbled softly, but he wasn't particularly happy. Suddenly His seemed much less interested, and Ekirith would have preferred to savor his time with this Barred. Mine likes to work too much, sometimes. It was all he had done when he was young, and the habits stuck.

Amarna had known that mentioning her play with knives was a bad idea, but she had and so now she had to live with the consequences. "I think being able to safely work with a dagger is a good thing because it can protect one from physical harm. And from angry rogues." Amarna hadn't practiced a ton recently, she was riding to many sweeps, but she would still stand up for her dagger work. Then, there were those rogues and from what she had heard about them, they scared her.
Holleth agreed with hers. Some of the riders of the rogues were scary. Who wanted to be near a rider who was cursing everyone out? Holleth snuggled in closer to Ekirith. Some of the rogues didn't seem to like the new colors and that also scarred her.
Amarna, feeling her dragons thoughts sent fondly to her dragon, No one will ever hurt you while I live.
It was then that Cheacha came flying in to visit with the rider that was near her pet. Cheacha flew once around the man and then settled on Amarna's shoulders.
Amarna quickly said, "And this little green flit is Cheacha."

"It's good to know how to use them." J'ran did himself, and even if he didn't, they were easy enough to figure out. "Not to play with." Playing with weapons was for performers, and weren't they a looked-down upon group? Maybe growing up amid whers and miners had made him too narrow-minded and dour, but J'ran really saw no reason to waste time messing wtih things designed for injuring others. They weren't toys.
Ekirith yawned. Mine sure is grumpy today. Just why was not something he could comprehend. Normally he was happy after won Flights.
J'ran did manage a slight smile when the Green flitter came and flew a circle around him before landing on Amarna. "Cheacha? I don't have any flitts myself." He had mostly only seen insane ones, and didn't really want to deal with them.
Dullard. Ekirith snorted. His had been more interesting once upon a time.

Amarna didn't comment on the playing with knives thing. She found them a nice thing to take away boredom, but she really wasn't borred much now, which was why she hadn't recently been using them much. And, she could more than safely use them. She felt it was best to be as safe as one could, even if it meant making a weapon into something to entertain one's self. But, she did not speak any of these feelings instead, she noted the slight smile when Cheacha flew in.
Holleth, enjoying cuddling close to the big Ekirithsaid to her rider and Ekirith, The little one is so annoying sometimes. I wish we had ended up with a gold or bronze, they are not supposed to be as silly.
Amarna laughed slightly at the commment even as Cheach a started playing with her hair. Amarna turned toward J'ran and commented while trying to pull Cheacha out of her hair, "If you get one, try to get one with a little more sanity, like a gold or bronze. The little ones like Cheacha here are quite silly."
Holleth commented only to her rider, And they can be annoying. I would much rather be with Ekirith then around that little green.
Of course, Amarna replied to Hollleth sweetly.
