A contented sigh slipped past the parted lips of the young woman. With eyes half closed, she watched the passing clouds overhead, and the occasional dragon. Lying on her back near the lake, Sahira was enjoying doing absolutely nothing. The bright rays of the sun hugged her already tan skin in a relaxing cacoon of warmth. A slow, careless breeze drifted past, rustling the long stalks of grass. The day was so far a success. Sahira had managed to escape all her chores. Of course, that meant someone else would have to do it, but, that was there bad luck. Besides, she knew of at least one person who wouldn't mind. Candidate Teodora was always ready for more work. Sahira sighed again, but this time in confused wonder. How anyone could enjoy work was beyond her. Shifting to her side, she sank deeper into relaxation, eyes slipping closed. Her only fear was that master kett would find her. She was sure to be put to work then. On the edge of slumber, Sahira was disturbed by a sudden coolness. Opening one eye, she glared at the source of the shadow that was blocking the sun.

Valentinth looked with curiosity at the girl, wondering why she was just laying there. Valentinth, move! You're blocking her sun Lidi told the dragon. Raven cheeped at Valentinth, as if scolding her too. Valentinth backed away from the girl and went over to Lidi, but was still watching her. Why is she just laying there, Mine? Some people like to do that kind of thing, that's all. Valentinth still didn't understand, but she let it rest.
Raven curled around Lidi's neck and glared at Valentinth. Lidi wasn't sure why the firelizard though of Valentinth as a threat, but she seemed too. Valentinth had decided after a while to simply ignore the fact. "Sorry if Valentinth annoyed you" Lidi told the girl. She wouldn't have liked having a dragon in her way.

Recognizing the umistakable shape of a dragon, Sahira decided to sit up. Riders and dragons did deserve some respect, after all. This particular dragon was a barred, one of the unusual new colors. Sahira wondered if there was some flaw in the colors marked. Maybe a mental infringment, or some physical disability. However, the barred seemed to be quite healthy. She let a wry smile cross her lips.
"Well, since there's an apology, I'm quite happy." Getting to her feet swiftly, Sahira performed a short bow to both dragon and rider. "Candiate Sahira." She annoucned herself. "Just taking a, er... break." It was then she noticed the gold fire lizard, and the agitated way it chirped at Valentith. "They don't really get along, do they?"

Lidi looked at Raven. She wasn't really sure what her problem was. "Valentinth doesn't mind her too much, but Raven likes having attention, and Valentinth steals it sometimes." She was pretty sure that was a close to the reason she was going to get. "I'm Lidi" she told the Sahira which was only fair, since she knew her name.

"Lidi of barred Valentinth." repeated Sahira. "I like it. Your dragons name, that is." She eyed the gold flitt. "Raven's nice, too." The shadow of a dragon passed overhead, and Sahira looked up quickly, holding her breath and prepared to dive into the tall grass. Fortunately it was only a brown. Relaxing again, Sahira gestued vaguely with an arm. "Beautiful day, isn't it? Really, all work should be cancelled on days like this." Sahira laughed lightly, if ruefully. "Of course, with thread falling all the time, who can really relax?" She sighed, but almost immediately brightened again. It was much too nice a day to be sad.

Lidi watched the girl, while Valeninth lost interest and looked around the place. She turned back and found herself staring at Raven, who gave an angry screech. Lidi reached for the Gold, comforting her back. Valeninth, backed off, and looked at Sahira instead, to be doing something. What the girl said was true. With Thread falling, it was hard to relax. "Once we get to fighting Thread, I'll be a lot more worried." Yes, it was worrisome, but not as much as if she was in danger like the riders were.

Sahira gave a nod, understanding the rider's anxiety. "Of course. Thread fall must be so much more intense for you and the other riders. I mean, risking your lives like that?" Pausing, Sahira checked the sky quickly, making sure it was still clear. Returning her gaze to Lidi, she continued, "If I'm lucky enough to be chosen by a hatchling, well, I hope I can live up to a rider's legacy and be as good as the ohers in killing thread." She had began to frown again at the dreary talk. This was supposed to be a good day, escaping chores and relaxing in the warming sun. "So, what do dragonriders do for fun?" she asked. "It'll be good to know if ever I become one."
