B'can made his way into the kitchen area with Guess flitting ahead of him. The tan rider was looking specifically for the new influx of Candidates, knowing which clutch they would be standing for.
But he would settle for any company whatsoever. He had not spoken much to either of the queenriders of late, and that was perhaps for the best. It was letting him get his emotions straightened out.
Or so he hoped. In any case, focusing on his duties in the wings and his duties to his dragon had made him feel better.
The fact that there would be a clutch from his dragon soon, though...that was also on his mind. Apolloth, of course, would not lower himself to riding Search. That was for the blues and greens.
He wondered, idly, if the white dragon had Search sense. Or any of the barreds and charcoals. Maybe not the latter. Grumpy bunch, charcoals.

Jekel, Raiin and Grei were sitting at a small table in the corner of the Kitchens. Raiin had filled a platter with meat rolls and fruits, and was debating with Jekel, who wasn’t actually arguing, about what fruit was best. Jekel wasn’t arguing, or even listening really, he had preoccupied himself with Shadow. Or more to the point, Shadow has preoccupied him, because her partner in crime (Grei, yes he’s into crime with a canine...)was busy having a staring contest with Umber. The little flame kagen was, perplexed, yet still intrigued by the strange child.
Grei had his chin resting on the table and was concentrating very hard on trying to out-stare the little ball of fluff. He wasn’t winning......

Raiin was still talking at Jekel though he wasn't really listening he was busy with Shadow as Umber was playing a game with Grei, Shadows owner, and it was a game Grei was unlikely to win. Jekel never had a puppy and this little one was intriguing. There was a certain intelligence behind those big blue eyes of hers. But there was a certain amount of time that you could stare at a dog for and not get bored even though this certain puppy was different, But it wasn't that Jekel was bored with the dog, yet, but Jekel decided to stop staring at the dog because Raiin might think he was ignoring her.
So Jekel continued his debate with Raiin. Although he kept one eye on Umber at all times he could be tricky that one and he certainly didn't want Grei stealing Umber from him, obviously Umber heard these emotions, and gave him confused ones back as if to say. Why would you think that you know that can't happen. It was silly of him to think that but he still had his doubts not in his Kagen but in Grei. Oh no I am becoming paranoid, and its only now, after I have friends. Jekel thought.
(Hehe I wanted Jekel to become a little paranoid with so many people around Umber, to fully put out how nice he is to animals, and how much he worries about his mischief-making Kagen)

Guess flitted off of B'can's shoulder and over to peer at the Kagen, backwinging a little then landing on the table.
"Guess, don't just..." The stocky rider sighed as he walked over. At least his green, always the troublemaker, was nowhere to seen. Probably harassing the cooks again.
"Sorry. He seems to be in the mood to socialize, whether people want him to or not." The young man wearing a tanrider's knot glanced at the group of candidates. Plus puppy. Plus kagen. Guess had now turned his attention to Shadow, turning his little head to peer sideways at the canine.
"Or he's just going to be utterly silly. Guess, you're a brown. Stop acting like a green."
The brown just churred at his owner, cheerfully, then flitted back to B'can's shoulder. "Again...sorry."
Candidates. Potentially for the clutch his dragon had sired. Maybe, he thought wryly, he should warn them.
I heard that

“It’s cool, he’s kinda cute.” Grei spoke first. “Shadow likes the flitters anyway, he finds then entertaining!” The puppy, who was now rather big, chose that precise moment to ‘woof’. Grei hastened to quiet the her, so as to not disturb anyone. He didn’t want Shadow being banned from the kitchens, for as long as he could help it. Raiin had just noticed the tanriders knot, Oh! “Um, you wouldn’t by any chance be B’can, would you? Oh and would you like to sit down?” IthinkheisIthinkheis!!! If this is B’can then we’re candidates for his clutch! Good thing I asked who’s it was when I got here.....(OoC: I think that maybe the shortest post I’ve ever written, talk about a muse fail -headsmackwithpalm- )

"Guilty as charged," B'can quipped, reaching up to scritch the brown on his shoulder.
Of course, there were relatively few tanriders. And B'can was hardly a nondescript man, being honestly built in a manner more suited to going down a mine than riding a dragon.
"And I wouldn't mind sitting down at all." He stepped across to the seat, settled down. "Good to see we have Candidates coming in."
Maybe he *should* warn them about the risk of being stuck with a charcoal...not that the charcoal riders loved their cantankerous dragons any the less for it. He was glad he did not have one. No, he had a tan who thought he was a bronze. Still...better than a dragon angry at the world.
And there was the possibility the skies might clutch. They would not know until the first one rose...and Apolloth would probably chase her, if only for the novelty.
He seldom chased greens, at least. Barreds more, with them being slightly larger, the big tan had more of a chance. He seemed to think greens were best left to the agile blues.

Ah so this is B'can. Jekel still hadn't said much to the man, he decided to leave Raiin to do the talking she loved that so all he said was, "Hello." His Kagen had now beat Grei too many times for the boy to be of interest anymore, so Umber promptly hopped over to Jekel to sit in his lap and stare at the Tan rider, B'can, Jekel decided to talk a bit more, deciding that Umber was a good subject, "I am not sure if Umber here likes you, but he certainty finds you interesting, and beware this one might suddenly decide to jump at you," he gave Raiin a knowing wink, "or he might decide to go sit in your lap, I am glad to say I expect the latter," Just at that moment Umber decided that he liked the dragon rider and promptly hopped over and sat in the dragon riders lap, "Well what do you know." Jekel said.

"We have a few of them around here," B'can mused. "I don't have one myself, but the Weyrwoman has one somewhere around, and I know at least one of the greenriders is almost never seen without his."
Not that B'can knew T'mar well, although his dragon was certainly a distinctive hue. He didn't want to get to know the young man in some ways...T'mar had a greenrider's preferences, after all, and B'can, emphatically, did not. And then there was a Kagen in his lap.
"Silly thing." he did, however reach to pet the creature. Which caused Guess to glare at him. "Okay, okay. Eh. I have two hands...as long as no more critters show up.
Where *was* his green hiding?

Raiin caught Jekels knowing wink and had to bit her tongue to keep it from poking out at him. She found the comparison between the three males that were all sitting with her exceedingly funny. They were all completely at the mercy of their ‘critters’ as the Tanrider classed them. However what Raiin found funnier was how different all of them were too. Apart from the age difference, all of them were completely different builds. Grei, small, agile and too skinny. Jekel, tallish, strong and light. And B’can, hugely muscled and more fit for being a miner than a dragon rider. But Raiin couldn’t say much really, he’d impressed a tan, and a tan who flew a violet! He also wasn’t much older than she was, or much taller. Maybe a few turns, and a few inches. Not that he wasn’t less attractive for it, much like Raiin wasn’t for being ‘rounded’. His voice was pleasing to listen to, at least Raiin thought so, she liked the rich, deep sound. Which did suit coming out of his barrel chest. ____________________________________________________ B’can, who’s B’can? How does Raiin know who he is? I’ll ask latter. Grei hadn’t really looked at the rider before, but now that he did, several things struck him. 1: He was strong 2: He was short 3: He was a tanrider 4: His hair was the same colour as his mothers 5: He looked like the male version of his sister Grei sblack personed at the last thought, imagine Raiin as a tanrider! Ha! But really, do they know how much they look alike? I wonder if Jekel noticed? Hmm...... (Again, musefail!!! This is not my week! SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!! )

Wow this guys likes animals or it's just animals like him, it's amazing how much Raiin and B'can look alike, there both short..........ish, a little on the round side, no offense intended, but the only thing they didn't have in common was B'cans muscles they were HUGE, he didn't really look like the dragonrider build did he? Grei is more of the dragonrider build or maybe me. Oh, I must remember to ask Grei if he is a dragonrider maybe I'll ask him now, but what if he's not and its something he is sad about or maybe he really wants to be one and he just wasn't chosen, on second though I'll ask him later when we dont have company, maybe I should the Tan rider something, what to say, what to say......
"So are you expecting big numbers in Jorindath's clutch?" Maybe that was not a good question to ask. A bit awkward, maybe B'can will use my awkwardness to his advantage and ask us questions about what colours we would like I hope he didn't take offense!!!
(OOC ShadowReine Wink wink nudge nudge. Sorry guys about him thinking everything couldn't get out of it)

B'can considered that. "It's a tan-violet clutch...so it will not be as many eggs as bronze-gold. Also, there is no chance of a gold and less chance of violets and bronzes." He paused. "The last tan-violet clutch produced three new colors. Skies are blue females, about brown sized or a bit bigger. We don't know if they can clutch or not yet...the oldest has not yet flown. We do know barred dragons don't...those are the blue-sized females. Then teals are between brown and blue in size, and male. And charcoals are about the same size. Watch out for them. They're cantankerous...often a bit of a handful to their riders. As far as we know, skies Impress to women and teals and charcoals to men...as far as we know. That might change. Barreds usually pick women, but there's one male barred rider. Tans always choose men and violets women. Then there are the traditional colors...but the last tan-violet clutch held *none* of those."
Whether that would be a pattern or not, B'can did not know.

“So the hatching is fit to be interesting. To sum all that up.....” Grei was rather tired, he didn’t have any of his usual energy, and he’d just been beaten by a fuzz ball.....
“Is there any idea when Jorindath might clutch? I think I’d like to impress one of the new colours, though that might be more than a tad complicated, considering how little is known about them.”
In truth, Raiin didn’t need to think about wanting a new colour. She’d seen one Sky, and had fallen absolutely in love with her dream of having one. And there was little chance she’d get a violet, the other colour Raiin wanted. But she’d never say that out loud, it would be rude, she thought. And it wouldn’t matter if she impressed another dragon, it would be impossible for Raiin to be disappointed with a fire-breathing reptile that wanted her, impossible.
(Gah, just call me muss-fail child from now on! >.<)

"Raiin, I think we are all interested in the clutch, I mean seriously." Jekel said exasperatedly, she didn't have to point that out it was just too shardly obvious. "Well does anybody, know what colour they want and I was wondering, B'can, did you want another colour even though we all know no one would trade their dragon now, but did you have different views at the hatching." He was trying to sound smart in front of Raiin. "Other than that I dont know what dragon I want so I just want to know if anybody else knows....." He trailed off at the end there not knowing what else to say........ (OOC is shardly even a word? I was just trying to think of something they might say in Pern)

B'can considered that. "I didn't *expect* Apolloth. I thought I was cut out for blue, maybe brown, not for a ranking dragon. But they know best. However...I can tell you what the Candidatemaster told me. Don't go out there with preconceptions. If you can at all prevent it, if you can focus your mind in the right way. You don't want to scare a dragon off."
He thought about that for a moment. "Not that anything would get between Apolloth and what he wants."
The tan was pure ambition, some days. He was determined that one day HE would be Weyrleader...and B'can knew he could not hold him back from trying. So, he did not try, and trusted that if Apolloth ever caught the senior...it would be after they BOTH had more experience.
