The Weyrleader sat by the lakes edge, stoking the barred firelizard in his lap. A fingers traced the purple marking down the side, a common habit that was hard to fight, but Memory didn't seem to be in the mood to be placated. D'mas chuckled, knowing exatly why his beloved firelizard battered his hand away and why brown Eron clung to his shoulder and refused to be moved. You don't live at the Weyr for several years and not know when a female is getting ready to rise. Soon Nayarath would too, it was almost reaching time but D'mas felt there would be no second time for him. Never had he won over Kora, the womans heart cut off from from him... but that was another story...
With a furious shake Memory escaped his hand and went to a nearby tree to preen, Eron practically breathing on her tail. D'mas chuckled again, deciding to leave them. He was not needed here, nor did he need to watch. I will watch over the little ones while they play Kayth said from his ledge, his favorite spot to be; close to his golden queen Nayarath.
She looked to he ignoring the brown but her eyes were not on the talon she thoroughly cleaned. Hmm, so far just Eron. Well it was a start. Throwing herself off the branch she took off away from the lake towards the many holes where-people-lived. Normally calm and sweet, she would show her worth. Only a strong male would catch her!
((And Eron is chasing, didnt feel like writing his parts up just yet))

((I have too many flitts that could chase, Jenth. *flails*))
Scout didn't often leave Salise's side, but this was one of those times where there was a much better side to be at, and so off he shot to where the glowing Memory flew. She was like a smaller and far more attractive version of Artemisth, and surely much friendlier as well. He bugled a greeting to Memory as he drew up behind her and gave the other arriving males a wary, sideways look, but they didn’t look too bad. Scout could beat a couple Blues and Browns, no problem.
Of course Torch’s first reaction to noticing Memory was to chatter excitedly. A Flight! He loved Flights! He chattered a quick goodbye to his usual company, something all three met with at least some relief, and shot off across the lakeside to follow the Barred.
His spirits brightened even more when he noticed where she was headed. Inside, maybe? Torch liked it inside, there was lots of food there. He liked food almost as much as he currently liked Memory- well, not even quite as much, but he definitely liked it. This wasn’t a time for eating either, but if she was flying to where food was, then maybe she liked it too and that was good.
These prospects all looked quite good, and Torch had to chatter to himself about it.
Tuck hadn’t ever tried chasing a female before, and the idea of trying it now, on something as prestigious as a Barred, struck him as slightly intimidating. Pip, of course, didn’t see why her clutch-brother should be so frightened by the idea. He survived Brooke every day, of course he could catch a Barred! The far more inspired little Green would have chased anyways, if she were male, so Tuck just had to do it for her.
With that urging, he didn’t have much choice but to dart out into the open air of the Weyr Bowl and head after Memory. He did sort of want to anyways, and once his wings were pumping and he was paying attention to the Barred, and trying to ignore the arriving competition, it quickly started to seem more exciting.
But then again, excitement was quite nerve-racking and that wasn’t such a good thing.

Trouble had not followed his rider down into the storage caverns looking for Blossom for a reason. Of course, T'mar, worried about his kagen, had barely noticed the absence of his bronze firelizard. He *did* notice when the bronze lifted off after the barred, but it was, after all, only a firelizard flight. Trouble might be a little large to be chasing a barred, but he was going to give it a good old try anyway. Why not? She was a pretty barred, almost as pretty as that other barred...and, with mating glow on her, the prettiest firelizard around. Bronze or not, Trouble did a slow barrel roll as he took off after her. Just to show off. After all, he had plenty of stamina. Yeah. Right.
Spunky would be mad with him. But Spunky was not rising to mate and Memory was. Koll abandoned the other barred to launch himself from Gwen's shoulder. It took the girl only a moment to realize *why* Spunky was scolding his departing tail. It would not be that long before she flew again herself, most likely. Competition. Blue, bronze, another brown. Barreds were a good size for browns. The bronze was too big, the blue too small and the brown seemed a bit uncertain. Koll's confidence rose. He was going to catch this firelizard. His dark brown hide glimmered a little...Gwen rather spoiled her firelizards and had oiled them both along with the white dragon that morning. He had to be the most handsome firelizard here. Surely.
OOC: Wow. I've been neglecting my firelizards. These two haven't had screen time in forever!

((lol! why do you think i started my return with a flitter flight )) The boys were chasing, and not a bad bunch either if she thought so herself. Memory was pleased, but there was no chance of telling them that right now. All they wanted was one thing, and they would have to work for it!
Darting over the rocky cliff-side she ducked into a dragons weyr, the large brown still inside dozing. The rush of wind and the lustful thoughts of the little barred woke him just after she passed his head. Aresth however was not amused and growled quite menecingly, wanting them to leave. Memory paid no attention to his threats of being made into after-nap snack, darting around his form and back out again. Down she plumitted off the ledge, pulling up to skim over the ground very low across the bowl.

Trouble skimmed over the dragon's back, scolding him as he woke up. He was in the way, he was between the tiny bronze and the sweet, sweet goal he pursued. Off the ledge and after her, overshooting a little then furling his wings to drop. She was so pretty, and she was so smart, and she was so all around wonderful. He was determined to catch her, or at least to be in at the end, but he had lost a bit of time in that maneuver. Now he would have to anticipate her if he wanted to get back ahead. Guess where she was going. She had such lovely markings.
Koll made a bit of a circuit around the dragon, staying out of range of those jaws, then beat his wings rapidly to catch back up. Even a barred was not worth ending up a snack, but yes, there she was, skimming the bowl. A chance to get and stay above her, where she would not have as much of a chance of avoiding him. Yes, the choice was hers, but being right there when she made it, right next to her, reaching for her. Besides, if he could corner her into a forced catch, he was far from above it...

He had to deal with dragons too? Scout was a little iffy on that, but... well, if he was really quiet, he figured he could take on a full size Brown too. If worst came to worst, he could just hide behind one of its legs and the behemoth would never be able to find him. When Aresth growled, the little Blue nearly jumped out of his skin in fright.
Hopefully Memory would think the sudden bolt of speed would be a trick rather than him being scared. As they left the Brown behind again, Scout added a spin to his dive, just for good measure.
Torch was far too busy talking to himself about the wonderful future he and Memory would have together when he caught her to really notice the grumpy side of the Brown. Of course he didn't altogether miss the dragon, but didn't see him as any threat either. As they coursed around him, Torch chattered an amiable greeting and then dashed out of the weyr again after Memory.
Tuck was not about to go near the angry Brown. It would eat him for sure! How far could that long neck reach? Where could he fly that wouldn't put him in danger? The rest of the fire-lizards were heading in, but Tuck was not about to risk his neck and join them. Even Memory wasn't quite worth his very life.
So instead he ducked a bit behind the dragon's haunches, hoped he wouldn't be noticed missing, and watched for everyone to leave again. Memory's pale hide diving over the weyr ledge and back towards the much safer Weyr Bowl sent Tuck into action again. This lengthy dive would have been a good time for performing a bit, maybe making up for his lack of going past the dragon, but the chance blew past Tuck. He didn't much like diving, always did it as quickly as he could, and soon had leveled out again and was just following Memory.

((Note: I've forgotten to write in Erons parts >.< I think i'll just leave him out and say he was there, since I catching myself would make a open flight pointless))
Silly boys. Fluttering around in attempts to gain favor would not work with her, flattered but a fancy flyer didnt mean you were strong. Many were even scared of the dragon, they had lost her interest. If such an obstacle should put them off from catching her then they were not worthy of her time, let alone the honor of mating with her. Still, there were tricks left to pull and maybe, just maybe, one might show himself above the rest.
Up she went, but not into the open sky. Wings snapped shut as claws latched onto bark, jumping in the branchs of a tree. It was much like the dragons in the clouds, but she didnt plan on hiding. A maze of twigs and leaves blocked off every turn swaying in the wind, treatening to scratch or push the unwary. Around and over she clawed, eventually bursting out and up over the lake. She had been watching them carefully, yet still she was unconvinced. As if moking them she flew in wide circles, daring the males to come close.

The bronze tried to cut across the circle. Trouble did not think there were really rules in a flight. Well, you didn't grab the female until she actually started to look tired. She didn't, not yet. He went around most of the maze, too large to fit through gaps that could easily take a barred or a green. Would she mark him down for that? He was *bronze*, he could not help that, but it was also a special thing to be. Wouldn't a bronze sire a better clutch than, say, that silly little blue? His wings spread, and he tilted his flight to catch the sunlight, to emphasize the color of his hide. Maybe it would make up for not being able to keep up through the trees.
Koll had no problems keeping up through the trees, being smaller than the bronze. He matched her move for move...but she was not tiring. She was no green, to be caught quickly...why, this was almost like pursuing a queen. A small queen, but a queen nonetheless. He warbled to her, as if to emphasize that point. She was as good as a queen, and Koll had little chance of ever catching a gold. A violet, maybe, but not a gold. She would be HIS queen if she chose him, his now and...well, until the next pretty female rose. Loyalty was not something male firelizards were generally that good at.

Scout wasn’t entirely sure what to think when Memory disappeared into the tree, but followed anyways. The maze of twigs and branches wasn’t much trouble for the little Blue. He was about Memory’s size; anything she could squeeze though, he could too. Scout kept on her tail, hardly even ever giving the shifting leaves a chance to completely block his view of the Barred.
Then, finally, they reached the end of the maze and Scout spread his wings with relief and launched out over the lake. They eased into circles and he edged closer, crooning hopefully. The Bronze looked about ready to just snatch Memory from the sky, but Scout would make sure he was near enough to rescue what would be his Barred if the bigger male dared try doing it.
Oh, Torch loved trees. There as many of them at the Weyr, but there had been in his previous home, and they were wonderful. He had nearly trumpeted with delight when Memory went against the norm of just flying and sent her suitors clambering through the tree. He was good at this, and surely she would be able to see him at every moment. Torch had always been very proud of his brightly colored head, but this was one of few places where the pigment change was useful.
Despite his love of trees, Torch was just as happy to burst from the branches when Memory apparently tired of that game. Never the most observant, he had come out with a few scratches, but the Blue was just as inept at being fazed by such things. He exploded into the open air again, pulled a cheerful loop, and then dove down to the lake, skimming briefly just above the water. Would Memory see how much more beautiful his blues were against even this pure water? Oh, she had to find him very handsome. Chattering, Torch rose again to rejoin the main group. He was maybe a little tired, but it didn’t matter. Memory would surely choose him.
The tree maze Tuck enjoyed. His only problem was leaving it again. Finally they had entered somewhere hidden and safe (past the scratchy twigs), and he quite liked it there. Why did Memory have to leave it? But his instinct to impress her had been growing throughout the Flight, and Tuck knew he hadn’t been doing very well. To give up now would, obviously, give him no chance whatsoever. That was, of course, supposing he still had a chance, which he somewhat doubted. Females were so scary…
After a slight hesitation, Tuck leapt from the tree and shot after Memory. His long wings were made for fast flying, it was never any trouble for him to make up lost ground. But what could he do past fly at the front of the pack, nearest to her? Tuck doubted she would even like him flying close, but it was the best the not-so-creative Brown could come up with on the spot. Maybe he would get lucky and she would appreciate his simply being strong.

They darted at her, just as she had planned! Silly males... Flipping her wigs to dart away her wings didnt catch the wind right, her strength had slipped from her. When?! She was fine a moment ago, silly barred! Silly Memory! Now the males would catch her!
She managed to drop past the bronze, slip past the browns and bearly scrap by the flightly blues but it was clear to them as it was to her now that there was no getting away. The question left was who would catch her. Her wing sundenly tangled with one of the males, squeeking loudly in one last stuggle to get away. It was useless, she was caught. Trouble being the larger male had managed to bully and push his way through to her in the jumbled confusion. As he twinned with her she slowly surendered to the mating passion, letting his strength guide them...

Nothing was going to stop the bronze. He pushed past the other males, and then she was there. There, right next to him, her wing brushing his. Trouble reached out and simply snatched her from the air, spreading his own wings to support them both. She was his...at least until next time, and how could she have chosen anyone else...
OOC: TOTAL PHAIL. I know *flails*.
