It was unlike Mermaiyeth to be short tempered with anyone, let alone her rider or Valient. But the barred had already sent Chewy scuttling for cover with a well timed growl, and Valient now refused to leave Beka's shoulder. Yet, Beka couldn't pick a reason for the barred to be so... So... well, grumpy. It was just unlike her, Mermaiyeth was stern and very strict at times, but she was otherwise a very gentle dragon, she knew this because Mermaiyeth had not once growled at a friend or anyone, she'd encouraged friendships and she'd even made quite the attachment to Aleyi.
Whatever was bothering the barred though, Beka didn't know what it was, and thankfully, she'd begun dozing. Not fully asleep, for Mermaiyeth's thoughts reached out to brush hers every now and then, but as Beka checked and oiled her riding straps, she didn't think there was anything to worry about. Mermaiyeth wasn't that hungry, so she didn't need to be taken down to the feeding pens, and she was content, for now.
A slight movement of the barred drew her attention, but Beka quickly dismissed her movemetn to the edge of the weyrledge, it wasn't uncommon for Mermaiyeth to sun herself, she liked the warmth, though Beka couldn't remember the barred being quite so ... well, glowy in the sunlight before. She loved Mermaiyeth, and she adored her, and thought she was the most beautiful barred out there... But she didn't think she glowed... Unless...
I don't really think anyone is worthy to share my ledge. Do you know that Mine? I would think they would have to work for the priveledge. To most, the barred's voice was casual, even teasing, but Beka was her bonded, and she knew everything that went on in Mermaiyeth's mind. She felt the flicker of lust jsut as Mermaiyeth felt the flicker of panic rising in her own rider. Not now. She hadn't ever wanted Mermaiyeth to rise, the thought terrified her, it had been a thought she'd been worried about when she realised just what a female dragon meant, but she'd put it out of mind, now the fear was back and it was very prominent in Beka's mind. Did she tell her to blood? Did she let her eat? Would she just fly? Mermaiyeth was bigger than Holleth... But...
Valient cheeped in concern as Beka continued to stare at Mermaiyeth. No longer dozing, the barred's body was tense, watching, waiting to spring. She didn't want this! "Mermaiyeth..." Whispering the name, Beka couldn't help but stand to put the straps away, perhaps make a movement towards her dragon, and instead, backing away. She knew she was scared, that she was shaking but if Mermaiyeth wanted this...
If you think you can catch me, I suggest you prove it males... Come, heed the siren call. With that taunt, Mermaiyeth launched off her weyrledge swiftly and easily, she'd show them all, oh they would try to catch her, but she would not be caught easily, not her.
{Sparra, I wasn't sure exactly what Mermaiyeth would be like. i didn't know if she had to blood, so I've basically treated her like a big green xD If I need to change, let me know <3 As another note, there is no preconcieved judgement in this flight, I'll either pick names randomly, use an online randomizer or roll dice. So the ending = Not preconcieved. =3 Have fun!}

((Looks good to me. n_n))
Jerglith launched from his own ledge without much warning to Aleyi- first came the soft strike of the beginnings of dragonlust, and then, eventually, a couple excited and more clarifying words: Mermaiyeth Rises!
Losing to Holleth had put Jerglith back in his place, as there was no denying the Blue had started to mentally rise out of it at one point. That Aleyi had been grateful for, but now he was chasing Mermaiyeth? She wasn’t so sure she wanted him losing her, but the prospect of winning was a little unnerving too. More so than it had been for Holleth’s Flight, since this time Aleyi actually knew the rider. And, much as she liked Beka, Flights didn’t seem the way to go about getting anywhere with the Barredrider.
There wasn’t anything anyone could really do about what the dragons decided though, and all Aleyi could do was be a lot more hopeful this time around that Jerglith would win, not that she’d have much say in anything at all soon enough. After giving Brooke a strict order to stay in her weyr- and keep Pip and Tuck there too- she headed for Mermaiyeth’s.
Jerglith, on his part, didn’t care one bit what his rider felt. His thoughts focused in on the glistening beauty just ahead of him. You’ve a harbored heart already, he crooned, playing along with the siren idea. Of course he would heed her call, but there would be no tragic endings for him today.

Oh, she's very pretty, Vikinth's brassy voice was surprisingly longing in K'ton's mind. The almost bronze rider looked up from his bed to his beast.
"Who is? What are you talking about?" He asked, puzzled. Not once before now had Vikinth showed any inkling that he actually wanted to rise to the Chase after a female.
Mermaiyeth. She's large for a barred, you know, Vikinth said, nearly making his rider's eyes roll in amusement. One of Vikinth's more endearing traits was pointing out the obvious.
"And how did you get so aquainted with her?" K'ton asked, mentally feeling his dragon beginning to respond to whatever it was that this Mermaiyeth dragon was putting out.
Because a bronze must keep up with the ladies of the Weyr, Vikinth said coolly, as though the thought had flowed easily into his head. K'ton was surprised: Vikinth wasn't as intellectual as other bronzes and often took some time to mull over decisions; he really must be ready for the Chase.
But was K'ton? The dragon decided, the rider complied, but that wasn't as easy as it sounded. Already, lust was pulsing through his dragon, infecting K'ton with surges of need that he hadn't felt for a Turn since he Impressed the muscular bronze.
Suddenly, Vikitnh stood, poised and tense on his ledge. She must be very, very close, K'ton thought, loosening his color against the cold sweat that he'd broken out in. He felt, rather than heard, as Vikinth's broad chest expanded and he bugled a reply to an unspoken challenge.
The siren brings only the best to her! Vikinth called, uncharacteristically haughty. As he leaped from his ledge, his whirling purple eyes focused on the blue challenger. A blue! Unworthy and lowly on the male chain! Vikinth might not be agile, but he was strong!

I feel like chasing a female, Tinth commented to R'mer.
He had a habit of coming out with that, and the young bluerider laughed a bit. "Well, find one then."
I have. A wave of lust came with those words. Mermaiyeth
R'mer would have preferred a green with a male rider, but he knew better than to argue with Tinth. He did not, at least, try to chase every tail that moved. No, he chased when he felt like it. But there was no predicting who he would take a fancy to. As he leapt from the ledge, the young man moved back into the corridors behind it, seeking the rider's weyr.
Competition, Tinth noted. Even a bronze...well, he could best a bronze! It depended, he knew, on the female's preferences. If he was lucky, this barred would not like bronzes. Another blue, too.
Mermaiyeth, he sent. You are truly looking lovely today. Not as creative with his compliments as some...the young blue was saving his energy for the main event.
He would show her that he was a handsome, powerful blue, well worthy of sharing her ledge for a short while...not for long, given his rider's preferences, but one never knew.
Besides. R'mer needed more *friends*.

A slight turn of her head to see who had chosen to chase her. Jerglith, her friend... Being her friend, and a friend of Hers' wouldn't gain him any extra points in her flight though, Mermaiyeth wasn't going to settle for him just because he was well known to her. Hm, a bronze? Well, well, one she didn't know but a bronze all the same, and another blue. Hm, possibly not as good a turn out as she would have hoped, but either way, it was obvious Mermaiyeth was pleased.
We shall see who is the best. Mermaiyeth wasn't an overly taunting or playful dragon on most occasions, but this was her Flight, she was going to make sure the best was hers. Without saying anything else, or replying to any further compliments, the barred twisted in a new direction, before turning her body upwards. She'd make them work for her, yes she would. Another soft, smooth croon and the barred swung again, this time for the direction of the ocean.
She didn't want mindless followers though, Mermaiyeth had never liked those who followed others, simply for the sake of following. If they wanted to impress her they would need to do more than merely follow any twists and turns she might devise. That would only show her how well they could endure tricks that she thought of, oh no, her males needed to prove they could do more than that. You should impress me, lovely males. How can I choose the best if you merely follow? Whether she would see it would be another matter, for Mermaiyeth wasn't as silly as to remain still for long.
In flight lust, everyone was glorious really. It mattered, in some distant part of Beka's mind that Aleyi was her friend, or that the other two chasers were male and she was afraid, deathly afraid. What mattered was Mermaiyeth, Mermaiyeth was having fun with her males, those who had chosen to chase her, and Beka was caught up in her mind, in the twists and turns and the sensations. They weren't about to be caught, no matter how afraid Beka was.

Jerglith absorbed Mermaiyeth’s words, and then twisted to the side as she took off on a new route, and soon found himself climbing as the object of his attentions jetted higher into the sky. He already knew who here was best: Mermaiyeth. But he would have to make himself a close second to win her. Jerglith couldn’t rely on things outside the Flight either; maybe he was friends with the Barred there, but he was friends with Tinth too and right now he sure wasn’t liking the Blue. Who knew how Mermaiyeth was feeling about any of them.
Now she was speaking to them again, and Jerglith hardly registered the second half of her statement as his mind immediately started whirring through ways to impress the Barred. Mermaiyeth deserved something original, but he couldn’t waste all his energy at the very start of the Flight. Jerglith was a big Blue, but Mermaiyeth was a big Barred, almost as large as Jerglith himself. She could push him.
Nothing but the fact that Mermaiyeth wanted to be impressed stayed in his mind long though, and so Jerglith set to the task. Twisting his body and pulling his wings in a little tighter, he started coiling upwards, like a bright blue streamer moving opposite the pull of gravity. As the maneuver started to really tell on his wings, Jerglith slowed his ascent, hovering for a moment with his body spring-like, readying to shoot forwards. Upon leaping forwards, he nosed downwards; given that there was no surface to push off from in the sky, he got a lot more momentum from gravity than attempting to jump through the air.
Jerglith quickly picked up speed on his dive, and once he was lower than Mermaiyeth he spread his wings and scooped upwards, coming up below her before taking a wide circle back to his place a little behind the shining Barred. He was content to follow her again, for a little while anways. Jerglith would win this Flight, and Mermaiyeth's earlier words made it obvious that just doing everything she did wasn't going to bring that about.

Impress her? Surely, Tinth thought, his strong wings and lovely shade would do that all on their own.
But she was the female, she was the ruler of the skies, as lovely as any queen could possibly have been to him...and he was not one of those blues with the strange habit of chasing queens, even the violet ones. Greens and barreds were more than good enough for him.
He beat his wings to gain height, and then half furled them, performing a neat barrel roll. Two turns and he was level with her again, catching himself easily. He was no longer a weyrling, after all. Young, sure, but wasn't young good?
Wasn't youth and strength worth considering, especially as she was, herself, maiden? And beautiful. He would be the first to claim her, even though some small doubt stayed in his mind.
He did not even recognize that as his rider's preference not to bed women. Besides, it was not important. Only she was. Only she...

Nice, lovely tricks. She would have to choose soon, choose a lovely male to stay by her side. And Faranth help that male if he should attempt to chase before she was ready to let that male go. But who? She was fond of Bronzes, but he had done nothing to make her happy, and she knew Jerglith and he was trying so hard... Yet, Tinth was trying very hard also. Decsions, decsions. Tinth's rolls had been lovely, but then Jerglith's dive had been interesting, she would like to know how he'd done that.
Crooning approvingly at her suitors, Mermaiyeth dove upwards, thinking over her decisions. She wasn't one to fly until she was exhausted, she didn't want to be caught because of a mistake, she would be caught because she wanted to be caught. She would be caught by the one she determined worthy. Mermaiyeth also had her rider to think about in this, Beka was terrified, completely, but she was willing enough to let Mermaiyeth make her own decisions, this was one thing and this helped. Spinning slightly, she surveyed the males again, before finally making her decision. She needed to fly no farther to decide. Well, Jerglith. I guess I have found the best. Darting forward to lightly twine her tail with his, Mermaiyeth crooned quietly, yes, she had chosen.
Beka wasn't ready for the whirlwind that hit her as Mermaiyeth's mind released hers. She didn't want to think, didn't want to be back on the ground, because that meant moving, and meant things that she didn't want to face. Half her body longed to move forward, to the mate Mermaiyeth had chosen, and instinct screamed for her to step back. A kind of arrangement was met, with Beka stepping neither forward, nor backward.

Jerglith watched hopefully as Mermaiyeth spun to briefly observe her suitors, eager to see a decision made, to twine himself against her as he was sure had to happen. Somehow her voice in his mind as she darted to him still caught the Blue a little by surprise though, although he overcame it quickly enough.
Crooning softly, he wound himself protectively around Mermaiyeth. This was a moment he had waited what felt like ages for… and wouldn’t His be pleased!
Aleyi herself, despite Jerglith’s powerful influence, still had a thought somewhere in her mind that Beka would be horrified. She sure wasn’t moving anyways and automatically didn’t appear particularly eager. Knowing her though, Aleyi figured Beka usually needed a little help in most things too. With the Flight’s extensive help, that, of course, won out quickly enough. Moving forward, she gathered Beka in her arms and placed a gentle kiss on her friend’s lips. Hopefully her friend wouldn’t be too mad at her later.
((If that wasn't a nasty musefail.... xP))
