Nayarath didn't really figure that just once she could have her Flight at a convenient time and weather, but it turned out that way this time. Kora knew the signs of the Gold's emminant Flight better now, but the fact that she was driven to Fly on a nice day- and during the day at all- took the Weyrwoman by surprise despite. The Gold had been irritable the past few days, and her hide glowed brighter than usual, but Kora had been expecting some sort of midnight Flight during some sort of random bad weather. So far, the Gold had at least managed to keep both her Flights at night.
The sudden boiling rage coming from the Gold and her bellow as she shot from her weyr and to the feeding grounds, probably, actually, caught a lot of people by surprise, even if they had all been expecting this. Nayarath based her life around inconvenience. At least she would waste no time playing with food today, instead the Gold dove for a bull, her bellow as she killed him sending the rest of the herdbeasts into a frenzy.
The usual blood it/eat it battle ensued, but Nayarath gave in quickly, if angrily, this time. After ripping the throat from her kill, she ravenously sucked the up the blood that poured from the injury and then leapt into the air again to choose a second beast. Only the best would do for Nayarath, anyone could tell, as she felled a second 'pick of the herd' type beast. This time she just blooded it, her rage turning to impatient lust. Where were the males? She wanted to feed and get going.
Frightened by the noise, Squeak hid under Kora's bed, but Lilac and Soot flew in excited circles around Nayarath's weyr, mocking the dragon's angry bellows and trumpeting playfully at each other. Kora left her Kagen with a few soothing thoughts and an order to keep out of the way- he was young and jumpy, and those weren't traits that meshed well with Flights.
This Flight was an important one too; for some time the Weyr had been in need of a new Weyrleader (not that L'han wasn't doing well, he simply wasn't official) and this would decide it. Kora had no idea whether Nayarath preferred anyone, and knew she didn't really either, so the end was open to everyone. Lilac eventually settled on Kora's shoulder, calming down enough to croon softly and nuzzle Hers. Along with the mess of feelings coming from Nayarath, the little Violet could sense her keeper's racing nerves.
And Soot? He wished he was a dragon.
((Heaven's Open Tans can chase, and if you have a Bronze or Tan, go ahead and throw it in! ;D *pokes Wolf* Even J'rron and his Bronze could come too even though they're rogues. xP He is a Bronze, and so it still makes sense... sorta. Nayarath won't appreciate Blues though *prods Missa*, so sorry but I would really rather they didn't join. x.o It strikes me more as an insult than funny, and I've been seeing it increasingly lately.))

Wuith had been a little bit restless recently, often somewhat destracted for the last day or so. It wasn't all that perticularly strange, but it had led L'han to change the bedding of the tan's couch and check every speck of dragon hide. The rider had been slow in relising the condition of Nayarath's hide untill the day before, kicking himself for not noticing before. The entire Weyr had known she was going to rise any day now.
Wuith answered her bellow and chased her to the feeding grounds, waiting for her to start feeding till he pounced for the herd. While he sucked the beast dry his eyes remained constently on the gold while she struck a second beast. She would need all the strength that blood gave her to fly as far and fast as she could and lay a fine clutch. Adulth had sired two clutches by her, but they couldn't expect a third queen egg in a row. The Weyr needed fresh blood.
The entire Weyr looked to her beauty and grace, and Wuith was determinded to make her his this time. No bronze was going to out fly him this time!
~~~~
Kayth followed the golden queen to the feeding grounds, eyeing the other males with a snarl. Only one would win this prize, the ultimate prize at that. Who Nayarath chose would determin the next leader of the Weyr, Y'xem and Alduth had been a disgrace to abandon the responcibilities...
The bronze struck his first kill, slurping at the blood greedily. For his second flight he was going to make this one count. Inexperience and the last of his immaturity had led him to make mistakes, mistakes he would not repeat. As bronze as large as he it was expected of him, and he would show his extravagent queen Nayarath that she deserved nothing but the best. And that would be him!
Such a lovely day. And B'can was...
...sitting on a rock outside the barracks, going over wing formations on a scrap of hide.
That was when it happened, the vocalization and the wave of goldlust met and matched in his mind with a ferociousness he knew he could not hold back.
He did not want the *first* dragon Apolloth chased in desire to be the senior queen! But there was no way he could stop Apolloth, no way he could hold the large tan back. No way to talk him out of it, for that call, that call was for all the bronzes and tans. Maybe even a brown or two, if they dared.
The hide scrap, B'can tucked under the rock, standing as his dragon launched *over* him, the tan bulk seeming awfully low even though he knew the dragon had plenty of clearance.
Straight for the feeding grounds, a golden-brown arrow. She was there, but first, he needed strength for this chase. Instinct drew him to the kill, a swipe that took down a good-sized buck, bending to blood, the red staining his muzzle, the hot iron taste was the taste of her, the taste of his desire.
Feeling an odd mix of desire and tension, B'can ran for the queen's weyr. A rational part reminded him that an inexperienced tan in his first flight would likely be outwitted by a canny gold, but there was still...the desire to win mingled with the fear of it.
He was not *ready* for this.
Nayarath half ignored the males as they arrived, more focused on catching a third beast and blooding it dry. This one was a smaller one, she would would be ready to fly when it was done. She crouched protectively over her final catch; there were others present now, and all were watching her. It made the Gold feel a little possessive.
Wuith's appearance surprised Nayarath a bit- did he really think he could catch two queens in a row? Still, he was here. She would give him a chance. The others... Nayarath would have to watch them. The lanky Tan was young, he had to think a lot of himself to think he could catch her. And the only Bronze present got points for just that, even if he was young too.
But they were all staring at her. Nayarath hurriedly finished off her beast and, with a defiant roar, shot into the air. Anyone else thinking of coming past this moment was bound to have trouble... but Nayarath was content enough with the males she had attracted. A few more downstrokes for a bit more altitude, and then she was off, shooting across the afternoon sky.
First, Nayarath would deal with speed. If a dragon couldn't keep up with her right from the start, he had no chance in the later parts of the Flight. She kept her flight angled upward, but her rise now was gradual. The focus was forwards and fast. Nayarath didn't spare a glance backwards; now that she wasn't eating, she wanted the males to watch her, but didn't care so much to watch them. This was a race, she would know later who lost.
Kora's eyebrows raised a little when she noticed B'can enter the weyr. Weyrling dragons had chased Kelth, but the Weyrwoman hadn't expected to see them coming after Nyocia's senior queen. The others present weren't so much of a surprise- of course Wuith would chase, even if Kora had felt like she and L'han hadn't been getting along too well lately, and Kayth was a Bronze. What else was one to expect from them?
L'han hung back a bit, trying not to make eye contact with Kora. Things had never been close between them, but now they were worse. It was about time the weyr had an official leader chosen. He might be young, reckless and despite his best efforts never accepted as a real leader, but Kora was a blind and seemingly unemotional. Not once had the Weyrwoman opened up to him in an unoffical manner, disregaurding any attempt to get her to open up. Dam Y'xem, it was all his fault!
Wuith had been ready, waiting in tense anticipation for the moment her feet left the ground. Having chased a few good flights you tend not to give your prize too much of a lead...unless you wanted someone else to catch her. He wasn't going to allow that, not again. Nothing would hold him back, but at the same time it wouldn't be easy. That's what made it interesting. No fun in not having to work for it.
The tan followed, easily keeping up with heer speed. However, he kept a little distence between them. The flight was young, Nayarath would not be caught yet! If she did however, Wuith would be highly disappointed in his beautiful queen...
-
Kayth shot after Nayarath, a blur of bronze after a streak of gold. Strong wings sliced through the air, each one confident and persise. His young age might play against him but he was a fully mature dragon now and at near peak condiditon. All he needed was experience, and that all came in due time...
At this time he could disreguard his competition, they were afterall nothing more then tans. Bronzes flew gold's, always had and always would. Nayarath was such a lovely creature, a dragon above the rest in beauty and grace. None could compare, not even the daughter queens she would birth and their daughters after them. There was only one Nayarath, and Kayth just had to make her his.
((Its hard writing for two chasers without them sounding too similar or chosing one you want to win >.<))
It was speed, was it? Apolloth, young and inexperienced, streaked after her. He lacked the knowledge that would have caused him to save his energy, not to waste so much so early in the flight.
Nothing else existed, nothing other than the gold. A vague awareness of the bronze and the other tan, was that it? He could beat them, they were just...rivals.
True, he had to pay a tiny bit of attention to them, but a tiny bit it was, the bulk of his focus on Nayarath as she streaked away from them. Her glowing tail was a brilliant tease, a beacon to draw him onwards. All of his instincts told him to catch her.
To catch her and bear her with him, and he didn't know the time was not yet, but fortunately, he knew just enough not to actually physically grab her, even though tail and talons flexed towards her, they did not reach out, not yet, his eyes a richer purple than any violet's hide.
Oh dear. B'can felt naked, uncomfortable, should he have tried, after all, to stop his tan from chasing? Caught by surprise as he was, he knew it would have been an attempt doomed to failure.
Keeping close today, hmm? Nayarath spoke absently to Wuith, able to tell easily enough that Wuith was flying nearer to her than she would have liked. Her Flight had only just started! He was only wasting energy. The others were alright though, and Nayarath made no effort to speak to them.
Mistakes did have their advantages, sometimes, but the Gold still didn't appreciate it. She twisted upwards now, climbing, teasing the males and wondering just how high they would dare fly. The air grew thin here, but it at least put in little effort against her flight path. Nayarath wasn't near an altitude that frightened her when she folded her wings and dropped, plummeting down past the males again, rumbling cheerfully at them as she passed by.
Tans, Bronzes... they were silly little things. How fancy could they fall? None could compare to Nayarath of course, she didn't have to throw in a trick to get everyone's attention, but they did. Before she got too low, Nayarath snapped her wings open again and started forward; her followers wouldn't have a lot of space to perform, but she expected them to anyways. The only rule was quick. Nayarath was still concentrating on speed, may as well test it while the Flight was still young.
Nayarath didn't fly level for long either, soon she was climbing again. High and fast was how her Flight needed to be. If her suitors couldn't keep up with it, well, that was too bad. The Gold wasn't waiting up.
((Wuith is holding back... >.> ) As close as i need to be, dear Nayarath Wuith felt the thinner air cupped in his wings, pushing him to work harder as they climbed higher. Still it wasn't much higher then Thread, he had flown higher chasing Nayarath before. But just as he thought that maybe he could relax slightly and enjoy the chase, Nayarath was falling past and away. His whole body twisted, renching his wings as the tan's bulk tried to follow his head that looked after his golden queen. Joints cracked and muscles burned but Wuith managed to snap his wings close on a tight corkscrew. Had this been the right time, he could have been proud of such a feat but it wasn't himself judging this flight. It was all for the beautiful Nayarath. It was much easier pulling out of this dive then it was to enter it, lucky not to have sprained something. Wings opened and angled to stop his spiral, easier in the now heavier air, leaving him only to pull up. Again they were lead up higher but Wuith knew there was much more ahead. These younger dragons had a lot to learn, but they would see and would more or less waste their energy doing so. ~~ Kayth was, to say the least, enjoying himself. Rarely did he feel what it was like to fly this fast, and even more to see the golden glow that dared them to catch her. Taunt wings were forced to loosen up to scoop for the lift that was quickly disappearing from his grasp. The extra effort was nothing to him, bearly missing a beat. He was a dragon, flying was natural so why should it matter how high they were. She was there... then she was gone! Shards, he had allowed himself to be mesmerised! The bronze's body turned but his propelsion kept him riding for a few moments before dropping him in a deadly sharp pin drop. Having learnt from his slight mistake he had been prepared to pull out, pulling out cleanly in a nice swoop. A deep rumble vibrated in his throat, showing that he was undazed and prepared for anything. As glorious and bright as the sun, he would follow her anywhere. The fact her hide was glowing made him feel like a moth to a flame...
The female led the dance, this greatest of all dances, and as Nayarath dropped, Apolloth made himself an arrow coming out of the sun.
He even put in a twist, spinning on his axis with wings furled once, twice, and then snapping his own wings out, catching himself a little too early, he ended up quite a bit above her, well, maybe that was a good thing.
Yes! She was climbing again, and he was now that bit closer to her, wings straining in pursuit. Oh, but she was as fast as she was lovely, and his pursuit of her was, in itself, sheer joy. The joy of tension, of anticipation. He would show his rider that he could catch a gold, could pluck her out of the sky as the treasure she was. She was, right now, absolutely everything to him.
She was his world.
Nayarath watched as the males dropped after her, her eyes whirling with delight at Kayth's surprise but quick make-up. What else could she expect from a Bronze? They were silly, the Tans were at least proving them on-the-ball. Apolloth was doing a very good job impressing her, but could he make up for his age? A certain weyrling would need a quick graduation if that Tan somehow managed to catch her.
Not that anything of the sort would happen, Nayarath was perfectly capable of keeping ahead of any of these males. She twisted towards Rukbat, only barely starting its journey towards setting, and shot upwards, not trying to fly any higher than the distant star, but wondering vainly how its yellow light made her golden hide look. Any female was allowed her distractions, anyways.
Contemplating this though, she slowed down a little, came a little too close to the males. That wouldn't do at all! But it was no mistake either, of course not! She flicked her tail playfully at the male who hapened to be nearest- Apolloth- rumbled, and darted away, adding a cheerful spin to her flight. I know you can't improve upon this star, but I wonder how you can do yourselves? She spoke to all the males now, her violet eyes whirling playfully. All she wanted was a simple twist on her own move, the males were not to be dropping or climbing, but she would leave them to figure that out.
It wasn't her job to win, anyways.
Heverth was late! It probably meant that he wouldn't b e chosen, but he had heard the queen's call and he had had to drop K'met off because they had been riding sweeps. K'met was slightly in shock about this and just did as Heverth told him to.
Heverth quickly blooded a herd beast and took off. He flew as hard as he could to catch up with the group. He did not waste time on anything except catching up. THe group continued to stay ahead of him, but slowly he was gaining. Finally, he caught up with the group, and then he brought himself around to the outside, where he was not to close, but not to far away, and he saved the rest of his strength by trying no fancy tricks. He would have full strength for the queen. He was a bronze, and an older bronze at that. He had been the weyrlingmaster. He was worthy of this golden queen, and he would win her. No violet or other color could match up with her because she was so golden that her color in the sun could almost hurt the eyes. No brown or simple tan was worthy of her, and he believed that he could be quite worthy of this beautiful and daring queen.
K'met stumbled in shock to Kora's rooms. Why did Heverth always have to chase Nayarath? He knew he wouldn't win. Kora probably barely even knew he existed except for when he had become a weyrling master, and now he didn't even have that position.
Wuith was nearly blinded as she headed for the sun, but even through squinted eyes the golden form infront of him was still brighter. So smart, so clever, so beautiful! He had flown through a lightning storm for her once before, had come close to winning Nayarath's attention. Close but it hadn't been enough, but maybe this time.
She slowed and the tan leveled, he knew what this meant but he doubted the others did. Maintaining his speed he circled her, wings virtical to the ground. A tricky feat to maintain without losing altitude but that alone wouldn't be enough. Passing just over her flight pass but didn't reach out, not just yet. Why ruin the fun of his queen, glowing with radience and at the peek of condition?
~~~~~
Kayth bugled loudly, an announcement of accepting her challenge. His queen wished for a show, she shall receive it even if he needed to fly to the Red Star and back to prove his worth. They had flown hard to get to this point but the ed was not on them just get. The sky belonged to them, so why not put on a show.
Flicking his wings he swayed from side to side, flipping into barrel rolls and tight corkscrews. No resistence defied him, never had the bronze flown so high. It was exillerating! But he wished to share it, with the stunning beauty that had made this flight possible. If only she would let him catch her...
The sight of another bronze upset him, how dare he! And how dare he turn up late! With a quick dart Kayth swooped at the bronze, giving him an angry bellow. Turn around and leave us! You are a fool, Nayarath will never let you catch her you lazy tunnelsnake!

She wanted him to show off?
Only one dragon here is brighter than the sun, fair Nayarath!
Truth was, he was tired, his wings ached, his chest burned, and the young tan's normal willingness to show off at the drop of a hat was, thus, muted. For her, though, he would face any pain. For her, he would catch the very stars from the heavens.
He backwinged to a hover, rearing up in the air, foretalons extended as if to do just that, then shot forward into a spin. Sure, he was young, but was he not strong? Fast? The most gorgeous color of any of the males, almost as bright as herself?
Were there only eggs at stake, then strength and lithe form might have been enough. But Apolloth was only peripherally aware that the future of the Weyr hung on Nayarath's choice.

When the other bronze bellowed at him, Heverth said calmly to the dragon I have been following from a distance because the queen took off right before I got there. Ihave finally caught up and I have as much a right to fly her as you do.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hellseth had heard the queens call, Embra had gone to the weyrwoman's chamber while silently cursing Hellseth. I don't want to be no stinking weyrleader. Why do you have to fly? They might expect something of me if you fly you shardin brown! We are shardin rogues, not shellin weyrpeople!
Hellseth calmly took this in and replied, I want to try chasing a queen, all I ever get to chase are greens, and not many at that. Hellseth blooded a little ways from the gold so that she wouldn't see him. Though he did bugle acceptance with the rest, she just might not have heard. Durring the entire flight he had been off to the side, but as she angled toward the sun, he brought himself in.
He had seen the latecomer bronze the entire time, as well as watching the antics of the others. As she angled her glorious beauty toward the sun, he announced his presence to all the dragons and brought himself in. He announced himself to all the dragons, I am Hellseth, I accepted your challenge and I have flown to the side the entire time, now I come to fly in the pack. And to Nayarath he said, You are a golden glory and I have watched from afar as you shine greater and better than any other dragon I have ever chased. He wanted to catch her, and even if he didn't catch the glorious gold Nayarath, he could claim to have flown after a gold.

Nayarath’s cheerful mood suddenly dropped when two new dragons decided to up and make themselves known. One was a Bronze, which wasn’t that bad, but a Brown?
You are not even of the Weyr, Nayarath told Hellseth sourly. And if you cared, you wouldn’t have hidden. No, he had no chance. Nayarath didn’t care how hard the Brown tried, he was no better than the Blue that had ruined her last Flight. And Heverth? Bronze, you are late. She didn’t care for excuses, she saw what was and irritably blocked the small part of her mind that may have emitted sympathy.
Bronzes. Humph. They were always late. Well, Kayth hadn’t been… but he hadn’t been first either. Despite these less-than-cheering occurances, Apolloth’s praise did some to brighten Nayarath’s mood, and at least Wuith and Kayth were doing well. But it was the younger Tan who spoke to her, so it was Apolloth that Nayarath sent her joking reply to, Is it any wonder you have trouble following me then?
If only her glowing hide had made trouble for the Brown in her Flight; a Brown who had refused to join the Weyr, who had already done quite a bit to offend Nayarath simply by existing but refusing to have a part in the bit of Pern she ruled over, who was simply a Brown, had no part in her Flight. Anyways, he was already reminding her of a certain particularly stupid Bronze that Nayarath knew- he talked too much, and seemed unable to do as she wanted.
He could go play with Jorindath when she rose, the Violet seemed fond of the idiotic Bronze, perhaps she would enjoy the company of this Brown too. Nayarath was no Violet, nor was she her daughter. She would have nothing to do with stupidity.
Nayarath could see that her youngest suitor was already looking more tired than her other follows, his sparkling words couldn’t make up for lack of energy, no matter how much the Gold liked them. There was some strain on her own wings, and at the altitude they were flying at breath didn’t come easily, but Nayarath wasn’t done yet. Maybe soon, and that would leave Heverth completely out of luck, but not yet.
Kora nodded to K’met as he made his late arrival, but paid no attention to the woman. She already knew that the rogue rider had no chance whatsoever, why her Brown even wasted his energy chasing was beyond the Weyrwoman. No Brown could catch Nayarath, even if she was a small Gold, and no woman could be Weyrleader. Kora had no plans to lie with a woman anyways, and Nayarath knew that. There was nothing to worry about there. But there were still others present that did have a chance, and as long as Nayarath let on to no glimmerings of a decision, Kora hung just as much in the limbo as everyone else present.
((And sorry Jenth, Nayarath does like Jorindath, I feel bad that she always seems to be thinking insults. If Yam would have posted in that hunting thread they could have had a moment to get along… she was being nice there. xP))

((That's alright Sparrow. A young queen approaching maturity might be a taget of spite for the senior. Competition stealing her males away and all )) Infernal destractions! The late commers were draining all the joy on the flight, fresh competition butting in to gain an advantage. Wuith would not allow them to win! Expecially the outsider brown with that ill-tempered female rider, just who did they think they were? They would never lead the weyr. The tan continued to spin and dance, as long as Nayarath lead he would follow determinded and unbothered by nuseinces. His energy was starting to slip, the thin air not quiet filling his lungs. He had to ignore it, it wouldn't be for much longer. The problem was convincing the brillent shooting star, the beautiful queen that ruled them all that it was time to end. Nayarath, who's beauty and grace is unmatched, we are worthy. Lets leave these stragglers behind, they can't take much more.~~~ Just as soon as he swooped the bronze and challenged his right, a nother showed up, this time but a lowly brown. It almost wasn't worth telling him off, he had arrived much too late. He would join them only to be turned away as Nayarath chose the strongest male as her mate, and that would be him. It was the obvious choice, as he was the only bronze worth concidering and the rest were beneath him in rank. These late commers shame themselves for believing they are worth you, dear Nayarath. It is almost an insult, they seem to not remember who you are. You deserving only the best! Let us fly together

Faltering he was, but Apolloth was determined not to fall...although for all the effort the tan could put in, he had drifted, somehow, to the back of the pack.
His wings simply wouldn't carry him any further, and he bugled his frustration. She was supposed to be his! His rider's wisdom, the soft suggestion that just maybe he should not join this flight had already been forgotten.
His! But there was no way he was going to get any closer, a buckskin silhouette behind the other dragons. Even the late-coming brown was ahead of him!
His tail lashed with a mixture of frustration and embarrassment. But he simply...couldn't...do it. Every part of his body ached and hurt and burned. He burned for her, but his fire was not, perhaps, hot enough. Enthusiasm not enough to attain such a prize...

Hellseth did not like the gold's treatment. The way normal golds were was that browns were good enough for them. Browns had won gold flights before! Hellseth decided to show some of his ability and did a nice turning flippy thingy, and then continued flying, not allowing the slight strain he had put on his wings to show at all. He was not just any brown, he was the rogue Hellseth, and he knew that he was amazing! What did it matter if he hadn't joined the weyr? At least he could boast about having flown after a gold, and not many rogues could boast about that.
Embra knew that Hellseth would not win because of the weyrwoman's bias, but she was glad that he tried, and showed the others that he was worth something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heverth calmly continued flying after Nayarath, knowing that he deserved to win. He had been slightly behind, but he had followed the path of the entire flight to catch up. This showed that he was quick enough to catch up. He still had strength, unlike Apolloth who was slowly falling behind.
He knew that K'met could be a good, stable, and strong leader, and so could he. He also knew that he would make a good mate for the gold Nayarath because of his personal strength. Heverth was confident in his abilities even if he was slightly late in catching up, but he had caught up.
Heverth called out silently to the golden and gorgeous Nayarath, I have followed in you amazing wake to catch up to this flight, because anything is worth flying after you Nayarath.
Heverth liked the golds. He wasn't really interested in flying after the violets that much, and the greens bored him with their quick flights, though he would try just for experience. Heverth liked Nayarath's flight though because it was a flight only like a queen could have.
K'met was one with Heverth, knowing that they should win because they were strong, and because ever since being a weyrling master his ability to be a leader had improved and had bolstered his confidence and his quiet authority. He was one with Heverth soaring under the skies and flying high after the queen. And he was one with Heverth feeling the slight strain of the previous fast flying, but he was also one in knowing that he had more strength to spare and that he was ready to catch the queen. Every other flight had been a disappointment, but he was not ready for this one to be a disappointment. K'met/Heverth swooping on the wind currents and feeling the wind rush over his strong wings was ready to win this flight whatever the cost.

Nayarath paid no attention to the Brown; he could do all he liked, but he would not catch her. Heverth was a bit out too... he was a Bronze, he was strong and healthy, but he was late. Nayarath did not want another Alduth. It made no difference to her that he had caught up, he hadn't been there when it started.
And Apolloth was falling behind... Nayarath hadn't really been considering him either, but she had enjoyed his presence. It was too bad he was so tired right now, at the best part of the Flight. Nayarath didn't show the Tan pity or anything of the sort, it wasn't like that had ever lended strength. She wasn't nearly as tired as her youngest follower, but Nayarath was ready to finish. There were two males to consider, one to choose... and she knew which one.
Kayth was a Bronze, and a big healthy one at that. He was young, but he hadn't ever caught before, and had a good enough rider. Wuith had disappointed Nayarath by catching Kelth- it struck her as an utter lack of devotion to go catching other queens when the Gold wasn't flying- but Nayarath did like him anyways. But hadn't L'han been irritable with Hers lately? And Nayarath still wasn't going to let anyone win two different queens in a row. No chance.
She crooned softly and drifted over to Kayth. Yes, let us fly.
Kora's reaction was immediate, the dragonlust finally taking complete hold of her, Lilac flying away with a squawk as her keeper reached for D'mas. Nayarath probably hadn't surprised anyone by choosing another Bronze, even if plenty had possibly been rooting for Wuith after his close loss last time, but she really didn't care just then. Nayarath was finished, the decision made, and Kora was holding onto the Bronzerider with an outside force, her lips easily finding his. She didn't know D'mas well, but they could deal with that in the morning... there wasn't any changing anything now.

Kayth didn't needed to be told twice, darting forwards as soon as she came close to make the catch. He would waste no time, someone might decide he was going to attempt something stupid. Entwining their necks his wings captured hers and they were falling, more gliding. This prize was his and his alone! Beautiful Nayarath knew the best dragon when she saw him, her glowing gold hide complimented by his light bronze.
As soon as the catch was made D'mas found himself half stumbling in an attempt to each for Kora in a dragonlust daze. He hadn't taken more then one step before discovering his lips locked onto her's, she had come to him. Already too deep in the dragon generated passion in the skies above, not a single though other then what his raging horemones told him to do passed through his mind. Since it was his's bronze's first catch D'mas lacked the ability to control any of his actions, if could even resist the image of their dragons mating stuck firmly in his mind. ~~~
Wuith could only watch helplessly as his queen drifted aside to be snatched up by the young Kayth. A close miss again, but there was nothing for comming second place and he knew that well. Again he had lost, despite giving it everything he had. It didn't make him feel any better that this bronze was younger then he, from Nayarath's first clutch which had hatched many fine beasts.
In his mind it was a god match, a choice fit for the weyr, but for now the disappointment made him bitter and envious. The flight over he was no longer needed to stay around, not wanting nor needing to watch the couple mate. Banking his wings h halted his flight just to turn away and head back for the weyr.
His dragon's disappointment was like drowning in an ocean but only one thought came to L'han's mind. I'm no longer Weyrleader... The tanrider was quicker to disperse then his dragon, having his own reasons but similar as to why. D'mas, though being fairly resently released from weyrlinghood, was his age and shouldn't have too much trouble leading the Weyr. Maybe not his first choice, but certainly worth concidering.
The reminence of matinglust still ran through his system, giving him 3 options. He could get drunk, shut himself in his weyr and start packing or find a willing woman. Maybe Shador might be interested...
