Brooke had managed to survive having her eggs moved a couple times now; first from where she originally laid it into the weyr Aleyi moved into shortly after and, now, to the kitchens since Aleyi didn't think her weyr was particularly accessible to everyone and wanted to make sure she got rid of all of the eggs. There were always people in the kitchens.
Now the Gold was hovering over the bowl filled with a mixture of sand and seventeen wobbling eggs, humming and looking almost friendly. Aleyi, with Tuck and Pip on her shoulders, kept a safe distance back. She didn't have plans to Impress any of these flitts, no matter how much Jerglith wanted a Blue. Aleyi didn't want any more fire-lizards.
Pip gnawed on some meat while Tuck flew around, trying to herd people over to where Brooke's eggs were; the Brown was much more helpful than his little sister. Aleyi was distracted carrying out a mental argument with Jerglith, the Blue had decided that if they couldn't get a Blue fire-lizard they would have to get one of those fuzzy rabbit things that had been showing up around the Weyr lately.
Brooke paid no attention to any of it, focused instead on eggs that were starting to show cracks as they wobbled in the little nest she had made for them. After so much time spent caring for them, she was kind of sad to see them hatch, but also anxious to be free of the eggs. Hopefully people worth Impressing young like hers would show up.

Things in the Weyrling Barracks had felt a little more roomy now that Nayarath's first clutch had graduated, even if they were replaced by Kelth's newly hatched lot. 14 hatchlings didn't add up to a pretty much a full wing of mature dragons. They were certainly something, though it was unknown if the two Sky's could clutch. Barreds were getting as numerous as greens, it was K'nam's guess that they wouldn't. The Weyr wouldn't be able to handle that many hatchlings.
Everything that had happened in the barracks was common knowledge, so when the resident golden queen had flown and been caught by a bronze also belonging to a weyrling it was just a task of keeping an ear open. The young brownrider didn't have a firelizard, they had been hard enough to get outside the Weyr but here they were were close to drowning in them. Only a handful of people here and there had decided to no jump on the caravan, they were only pets after all with some handy uses.
Having checked into the lower caverns nearly everyday since they had been moved here, Erith thought they might be fun. When Erith felt like making an argument he could be very persuasive, but not so much that K'nam couldn't make his own decisions. There was no one here, but by a faint humming he could hear and the brown squawking about it must be time!

Lidi was on her way down to the Lower Cavenrs when she heard something happening in the kitchens. Curious, she poked her head inside. A gold firelizard was humming and fluttering about. Were her eggs hatching?
Lidi almost tripped over herself running to get some meat, then going over to where the gold firelizard was. She had wanted a firelizard for a while, and now was her chance to finally get one. She didn't know what to think about.
What is so exciting about firelizards, LidiMine? Valentinth asked. I don't know, Valentinth, I've just always wanted one, Lidi told her.

Kyrissa had been in the kitchen sorting out a sandwich, when she noticed the commotion with a couple of flits. She went over, unsure of what was happening, to ask. What has you so excited, Kyrissamine. There is some commotion with some flits, I am not sure what. "Excuse me. What is happening here?" She asked politely, completely forgetting she had been hungry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
R'kah could hear the flit's humming from the dining cavern and knew something must be happening. First he thought it as another dragon hatching, but then logic kicked in and he realized it was a flit hatching. Do not even think of getting any more of those little snacks. The one you already have is more then enough.[/i]
He knew Claudiuth had taken an instant dislike to his brown flit, Tawny, but he liked the little creatures. Claudiuth would have to learn to like them, perhaps he would when they proved helpful with his bathing. R'kah tilted his head to get a bearing on where the humming was coming from and surmised it might be the kitchen. He got up and headed to the kitchen, where he stopped just a few feets from the rocking eggs.
Lidi noticed another girl coming over. She wanted to know what was happening. Well, she wasn't completely sure, but she thought she knew. "I think her eggs are hatching" Lidi told her. There wasn't really anyone here, and if they did hatch, there ought to be more people there to Impress to them. Who knew, maybe she wanted a firelizard.
Iron landed on T'lat's shoulder and was chirping madly at him. T'lat was half asleep becuase he had rested up aginst Hansth and then feel asleep. T'lat looked at the brown curiously and realized what Iron was trying to tell him, that there was a flit hacthing in the kicthens. Of course T'lat being the way he was could not resie the chance to add anthoer member to his 'family' as he liked to call Hansth, Iron, and Emerald. So he got up and hurried down to the kicthens. He got himself some food on the way in and walked up to where the others were gathered to try and impress the eggs. He smiled as he looked at them, wondering if he would impress any, and if he did which one.
"Oh. I see." Kyrissa smiled as she finally noticed the eggs, why hadn't she seen them before? Well, perhaps a firelizard or two wouldn't be so bad. Opheliath dear, what would you say to my bringing back a friend or two? Oooh, that would be wonderful Mine. I will see what I can do then. She looked around and spied some chopped meat, guessing it must be for the occassion. She went over and filled a small bowl with the meat then went back near the other girl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
R'kah realized he'd need food if he was to impress another firelizard, even if Claudiuth didn't want him to. The bad tempered dragonet would need to learn that he couldn't get his own way all the time. He went and picked up a handful of food before going back to his position, keeping quiet unless he was spoken to.

Hearth was in a bad mood, and when he realized firelizards were hatching, it didn't improve is mood. What is it Hearth? N'lel asked him, curious. Some firelizards are hatching, nothing interesting, don't worry about it. N'lel found that a little more than not interesting. Hatching, really? Hearth grumbled yes, then informed him that no firelizard was as good as he was. Of course not N'lel said, amused that his dragon that he would like a firelizard more than him.
N'lel got up and went to the kitchens. He noticed some other people there, along with a bowl of meat. He nervously picked some up, then stood around the bowl of sand that contained the 17 wobbling eggs.

"I don't envy you, Gwen," T'mar commented to his clutchsister as the two walked into the caverns.
Her lips quirked. "You don't envy me having such an unusual dragon, or are you talking about the fact that Spunky is chittering my ears off."
"Yes!" the green weyrling quipped. A kagen head poked out of his shirt, that being one of Flower's favorite locations. She didn't look like she'd be growing insanely too big.
Chitter, chirp, HUM.
"Ahem." Gwen glanced around to see what the heck was hatching or being born. Spunky took off, flitting towards the kitchens, glancing over her shoulder. Gwen laughed. "Must be Brooke's clutch." She moved to follow her firelizard.
T'mar rolled his eyes. "You have Spunky and you want another one?" He followed, despite that.
"I wouldn't mind a male, a blue or brown or something," Gwen admitted. "And all you have is that fuzzy thing."
"Hey! Kagen are cute!" The two laughed, both moving to join the gathering group around the eggs.
OOC: babeeez!

L'noen was in his new weyr, staring at the empty looking space. He was trying to figure out how to make it feel more homey. His room in the barracks had been small, but he was used to it.
Peasanth poked his head in. Mine, the little gold's clutch is hatching,[/color] he told his rider before ducking back out again to resume sunning on the ledge. Thanks, Peasanth, L'noen said, abandoning his rooming ideas for now.
In the kitchen, he picked up one of the bowls of meat and joined the others around the eggs, nodding a greeting at Aleyi. He had never Impressed a fire lizard, worrying that it would take too much time to care for it as well as Peasanth. But now that he was graduated, he thought he could handle having a flitt.
S'bri was in the kitchen already, having a quick snack. Nova was perched on his shoulder, begging for snacks. When she lifted off, he knew something was up. He looked up and saw the Barred hovering around the clutch, humming.
Looks like the clutch is hatching, he thought to himself, grinning. He quickly polished off his stew and went to get a closer look at the eggs. Nova landed on his shoulder again. Come to think of it, he wouldn't mind a second flitt, if one happened to come his way.

Aleyi blinked, a little surprised to hear a voice other than Jerglith's suddenly reaching her. She had been ignoring the normal noise of the dining hall, but now someone was talking directly to her. "Um, Brooke's clutch is happening." She pointed at the bowl and the Gold hovering at its egde. "You want a flitt?" Now that she was actually paying attention, Aleyi could see a few people had showed up, and wondered absently why none of them had talked to her.
Oh, and one of the earlier arrivals had answered the question-girl too, Aleyi hadn't realized that until the other girl replied. No matter, at least they were here. The more people, the less Aleyi had to worry about getting a fourth insane fire-lizard. And finally someone arrived that Aleyi recognized! Graduating from the barracks suddenly left her not knowing a lot of people.
"Hey Gwen." The Whiterider had said that she might come to Brooke's hatching, but it still kind of surprised Aleyi that she wanted another flitter. She had Spunky, and Brooke's young were sure to be much more trouble. Their sire had been a sweetie, but Brooke had to overpower things everywhere.
A variety of b's suddenly hatching probably distracted attention from conversation. Brooke trilled with excitement when first a Barred poked her head from a crack, soon followed by the rest of the slender, somewhat wet, body. Next a pair of larger eggs smashed against each other, soon revealing a dazed Brown and irritated-looking Bronze. A Blue crawled more surreptitiously from his own egg, looked around nervously, and then rushed to S'bri.
The Barred didn't look so eager to Impress, and instead headed over to the rim of the bowl and scrambled onto it, from there striking a vain pose very reminiscent of her golden mother. Brooke gave her daughter a brief but proud look before looking back at her clutch.
The Brown was taking his time recovering from hatching and wobbled around the bowl, eventually escaping it but falling with a moist whump onto the table below. He gave his head a shake, but didn't look quite ready to get up.
The Bronze, on the other hand, knew just where he wanted to go. Some weird fuzzy thing was looking in his general direction and he didn't like that one bit. His wings still wet and not willing to fully spread, the Bronze hop-skipped his way over to T'mar to give the Kagen a telling off. After wasting a few second chattering angrily at Flower, the Bronze suddenly realized he was hungry, and abruptly switched to a more begging tone, aimed now at the boy he was facing.

Kyrissa gasped in surprise as four of the eggs broke shell, revealing a barred, blue, brown and bronze. What had surprised her, was the small size of the little hatchlings. Even a full grown gold firelizard couldn't hold a flame against Opheliath or any of the other dragonets in size. A smile crept onto her face as her mind was filled with loving thoughts, yet she didn't direct them at a specific hatchling. She didn't mind what colour, or colours she got, and she didn't think Opheliath would mind either.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
R'kah, on the other hand, didn't want any females really. He thought they might agrivate Claudiuth more then a male did, even Tawny. He saw the brown fall from the bowl it's egg had been nested in and one side of his face lifted in a lop-sided smile. He sent thoughts of warmth and love to the brown, willing it to get up and be healthy. Tawny, who had been sitting quietly on R'kah's shoulder, crooned softly in reassurance to both the unimpressed hatchlings.
T'mar laughed as the bronze scolded Flower. The Kagen promptly tried to hide all of herself in the boy's shirt, only an ear now visible. No doubt, she thought she was well concealed. "Silly bronze..."
"T'mar, stop insulting that firelizard and feed it," Gwen mock-grumbled, moving a bit away from the greenrider...and the barred firelizard. She didn't want another Spunky!
T'mar blinked, then raided a nearby bowl to offer some meat to the bronze. Well, this was unexpected. Of course, he could already tell this one was going to be trouble, but Flower and Freyjath were both so docile that he could handle a bit of "Trouble," he murmured. "You're going to be trouble, I can smell it."
You know, that wasn't so bad an idea for a name...now, was it. Trouble nearly took finger with his first meal, but then settled down to eat.
Flower stayed where she was, only that ear poking out.
The Barred, drying off as she sat on the rim of the bowl, apparently finished the survey she was taking of those present and spread her little wings. After a couple of test flaps, she fluttered over to a boy concentrated much more on her clumsy Brown brother and landed daintily on his shoulder. She nipped his ear lightly to make sure she had his attention, gave his grumpy Charcoal a glare she felt equaled his, and opened her mouth, waiting for food to be offered to her. This little girl wasn't the slightest bit worried about the potential dangers behind who she had chosen to Impress.
The clumsy Brown decided it was about time he got to his feet just as another egg hatched, revealing the first Green of the clutch. She looked around, a wild expression on her face, before darting out of the bowl and landing in a tangle of legs, wings, and tail on her larger brother. The Brown squawked with surprise- his whole life so far had been nothing but a train of not-so-nice experiences. It was about time he found someone to be nice to him.
Not considering the possibilities of others bonded to his chosen being rude, the Brown stumbled to Gwen and chirruped unhappily, hungry and hurting. The Green was still struggling with all her appendages, seeming quite amazed by this idea of them not being bound within an eggshell.
A pair of Tans hatched next, one very small for his color and the other large, and the large one quickly started off towards L'noen. The smaller one followed, not looking like he wanted to be making any decisions himself.
A second Brown hatched next, his egg splitting cleanly in half and leaving a hatchling that looked a lot more ready to take on the world than the first Brown had. It trotted over to N'lel and cheeped for food.
Eggs started shattering all at once. Nova trilled, happy to see a Barred sister and two handsome males. S'bri almost missed the blue who shot out of his egg and headed straight for him.
"Hey! Calm down!" S'bri laughed, holding the trembling little blue in his hands. The hatchling creeled piteously, looking up at him and opening his mouth wide. S'bri picked up a bowl of meet and obediently fed the blue, who gulped it down ravenously, looking around as if someone was going to sneak up and steal the food.
Gradually, the blue became less frantic in his feeding, and S'bri transferred him up to his other shoulder. Nova chirruped and reached over, nuzzling the blue, who squeaked in surprise. "I think I'll call you Scatter," S'bri decided. "It's a good name for a jumpy little thing like you."
L'noen stood back, watching as several flitts hatched and Impressed. He was ready with food, but didn't want to interfere with any of the Impressions. Then, two Tans hatched. The big one started in his direction, and the smaller one followed.
"Two of you?" L'noen said, chuckling and picking up the smaller one first. He fed the tiny Tan a few bites, then turned to the larger one. He fed the pair together, changing after every few bites until they were sated. The pair curled up on either shoulder, the larger watching the smaller one protectively.
"I suppose I need a name for you two," L'noen said thoughtfully, stroking the smaller Tan's hide. "How about Starlight and Moondust?" The former for the smaller, and the latter for the larger. He could hear no objections, and so decided the names were suitable.
Gwen laughed a bit as more hatched, although she was still eyeing that barred.
One barred was definitely e...and phew, she'd picked somebody else. Those charcoal dragons were pretty...not Tyrth, but still...
And then there was a brown chirruping at her. She mentally replayed the last couple of minutes. Oh, he'd been squished by a green. Poor thing. She grabbed some food, which he accepted.
A brown. "Well, I did say I wanted a male."
Spunky, not wanting her position preempted, chittered some very rude things in firelizard at the new hatchling. Who, the white rider supposed, needed a name.
Unlike her barred, though, this one didn't scream any particular name at her...she fed him and studied him carefully. Maybe Tyrth could help come up with one!
It was starting off to be a good clutch, but so far it seemed that none of the little creatures wanted K'nam to feed them. It was a little sad, a little like being left standing as a dragon hatchling walked you by to Impress the person next to you. But he had to pull himself together, there were still more eggs to hatch even if they were going to be just greens, blues an barreds.
Don't worry K'nam, at least I will always be here for you He felt Erith rumbling his encouragement from outside, as there was no way the growing brown was going to fit inside. K'nam gave his dragon a mantal caress before turning his attention back to the firelizards.
From his perch on a shelf above the eggs Kitz gave a shrill of pride of his hatchlings, and for his beautiful queen who took so good care of the eggs till now. There babies were going to good homes, and he had showed that just because he was smaller then most bronzes affected his hatchlings in no way.
R'kah was surprised as the little barred landed on his shoulder and gave his ear a nip for good measure. If he knew any better, he'd say she was unafraid of what might happen when Claudiuth saw her. Tawny gave a cheerful welcoming chirped to the little barred and rubbed his head against R'kah's cheek letting him know he was happy. R'kah obligingly feed scrap after scrap to the dainty little barred, she soon became sleepy. "Now, we need a name for you. How about Amethyst?" The little flit gave a sleepy chirp of approval before finally falling asleep nestled in R'kah's arms.
Kyrissa watched as more of the eggs hatched and most of them impressed. She was surprised at the two tans impressing the same person at the same time. She hadn't thought that was possible. Now there was a lone green laying on the table in a tangle of limbs, seeming to be dazed. Get up little one. You will be ok. Come on. She thought silently, hoping it would get itself together and be well. It wouldn't do for any of the hatchlings to between, that would be just awful.
N'lel watched as all the firelizards hatched. He found it hard to see all of the firelizards at once and watch them. He eventually gave up and just tried to think of nice things, ignoring Hearth's background rumbling of annoyance.
A brown firelizard that looked just slightly more daring than his brown sibling came up to him, cheeping. Hearth shot a few not quite nice thoughts into N'lel's head, but he ignored them. N'lel offered the firelizard some meat. The brown firelizard gobbled it up, then climbed up carefully to N'lel's neck, twining around his neck and looking at him.
N'lel studied the brown firelizard. He was quite daring, at least, more daring than his brother had been. That was it, he would call the lizard Dare. N'lel stroked Dare soothingly, looking at the other eggs offhandedly, wanting another lizard, but doubting Hearth would like that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lidi watched all the firelizards hatched. Valentinth continually asked her if she had gotten one yet. Lidi kept telling her no. After a moment, the only firelizard that was hatched and without an owner yet was a green. Lidi looked over at it, watching it along with the rest of the eggs. She didn't really care what firelizard she got, she just wanted to have a friend.

Strife was curious about any and all things. So when the blue rider had set up with a clutch of eggs, she went to investigate.
"Strife? Strife, where'd you go?"
Izzy was used to the little Kagen going off by herself, but not when there was a) food, or b) a free ride in Izzy's coat.
It was from this coat she pulled a pair of long, elongated and tapered sticks. She used these to twirl her hair up into a messy but functional bun.
"Strife?"
Her search path led her straight towards the flitter clutch she'd noticed a little bit ago. She hesitated before joining the throng of people, and took a tiny gulp before asking the nearest girl, "Have you seen a Sand Kagen?"
