Brec had kept a very, very careful eye on his egg since he'd claimed it. He had a horror of it hatching when he was not around and going wild.
Thankfully, he was lucky. It only chose right before breakfast to finally start shaking and then showing a thin lace of cracks. It was almost a shame for something so pretty to crack.
He grabbed some food, having been keeping bits of meat scrap handy for just this event. The egg finally split into three parts, two fell to the ground and the third remained like a hat on the little...brown! He'd guessed right!
"Come here, handsome one, get some food." It hopped towards him, claiming the meat and letting him remove its egg hat. He pocketed the shard, just because it was pretty. "Guess I was right..." A pause. "What do you think of that for a name? Guess?"
It looked up at him, then went back to murdering its first meal, eating almost faster than he could feed it. It was hard to work out what kind of personality it might have. "I guess breakfast is more important." Which, of course, made -his- stomach rumble, but he wasn't going anywhere until the baby was fed. Besides, he thought some of the hunger came from Guess. That was how it worked, after all.

((It's okay if I jump in with eggies from Dancer's clutch, right? x3))
After visiting the Lower Caverns a few times, Piyor was slightly overwhelmed when he somehow managed to snag three free firelizard eggs. Surely someone else would've bought them! What was he going to do with three firelizards?
He found out a few short days later. Piyor had asked his brother for tips on taking care of them and was rather anxious for the eggs to hatch. What would they hold inside? They were all pretty small so he most likely wouldn't get a higher-ranking color. Not like he cared one way or the other anyways.
Then there was a cracking sound. Piyor raised his head from his work, a pair of trousers that needed the hems let out. The strawberry egg was shuffling and a small hole had formed at the top. A tiny green mouth was pushing against the hole. Meanwhile, both the white and black eggs were shaking and scratching sounds could be heard.
"Uh..." Piyor fell over his chair in a rush to get the scraps of meat he'd been keeping.
Pretty soon, the sound of three very hungry firelizards filled the room. Piyor was having a difficult time keeping all of their mouths full and they squabbled amongst themselves over the meat. The nips and scratches on his hands and forearms proved it. The two greens ganged up on the little blue and skittered off with his share, leaving him squawking loudly on the floor.
"Help?" Piyor called meekly.

Brecan's egg had hatched a bit before, and he had the brown settled. Seeing the boy struggle with -three- firelizards, he was reminded why he had gone for one larger egg, when he could have had two smaller ones.
Still, he moved over. "They're cute. You have enough food there, or do you want me to get you some?"
Fortunately, Guess was currently asleep and thus, not likely to join in the fight between the smaller firelizards.
Two greens. The poor guy, two greens from one clutch. They'd probably rise at the same time!

Piyor turned at the sound of another voice, not really expecting anyone to come to his aid.
"I think I've got enough food." He looked at the bowl full of various chunks of meat and then at the the two greens. They were tugging on the same scrap, eyes whirling red in irritation. With a sigh, Piyor snuck the little blue a bit to which he received a soft purr.
It seemed like things were starting to calm down a bit. "They're probably going to be a handful," he said with a gloomy tone. "I still don't know how I ended up with three."
Then Piyor realized how much he was complaining. Nothing he could do about three firelizards. They'd probably mellow out as they matured. Hopefully, at least.
"Name's Piyor, by the way." He gave a small, quick smile before he found himself the bed of three suddenly sleepy flitters. They all settled in his lap and promptly began to snore.

"Brecan, and the little guy's Guess."
Brec studied the three firelizards. "Yeah. I was offered one large egg or two small ones, and decided one at once would be enough. Especially if Kelth clutches and I go and Impress something."
If. It would likely be a smaller clutch, if she did, she was smaller than a gold, so less room for eggs in there.

Impressing. Oh dear, he knew he'd forgotten something. However was he supposed to Impress and take care of a dragon or wher (after all, he'd decided he may as well stand at both) with these little beasts?
He sighed. Maybe he'd best to wait a while before Standing. Or maybe he should just go home. But no, he didn't want to. He wanted to see if he was worth it, if he could be a dragonrider or a wherhandler. Besides, as long as his brother was here, he'd stay.
"Guess is a nice name. I think I'll name mine..." he paused for a moment, studying their cute sleeping faces. How deceiving appearances were. "The bigger green one's Pip, the smaller green's Jig, and the blue one's Poe. Yeah, I suppose that'll do."
He gently picked up the limp flitters who barely batted an eye and sat them in his bed. They curled up once more into a blue and green pile until it was impossible to tell where one started and ended.
"So are you nervous about the Impression, too? I'm technically a wher candidate but I figure I might as well try for a dragon. Not there's anything wrong with whers, I just assumed that I was originally Searched to be a dragonrider."

Brecan shrugged. "One of two things will happen. I'll Impress, or I won't. If I don't, I haven't lost anything."
He reached up to scritch Guess. "If I do, I get a partner for life and a dangerous, but fulfilling job. Nah. I'm not nervous."
He considered. "I guess I'll probably Impress blue, maybe brown. What do you think for yourself?"
