"Bottomless pit, tha's wha' these things is!"
She had slipped into a rare state of panic over her choking bronze. She never had been emotional, but just watching the creature struggle...was hard.
"Thankee, lass. 'E jus' grabbed it, an' woudn't le' m' take't back. 'E's jus' stuffin' 'is face..." Velka let her explanation trail off when she spied the damage her little one had done. Shards! Now she'd never get in the good with the brownrider!
"Blimey, 'e did a numba on yer arm. Lady, d'ye wan' me t'git anythin'? I kin trun t' th' kitchens, an' git somat fer th' blood. Kin prolly whip up s'm numbweed s'well, acoz they looks a mite pained."
She offered the still creeling bronze some more meat, but his appetite slacked off after the third scrap. Unexpectedly, he burped, and crawled into the crook of her arm.
"Ima name y' Disaster," she told the groggy bronze, muttering so low only she and he could hear it.

R'mer blinked. Apparently, the blue at his feet had heard Tinth's request for a mini him. Grinning, he picked the little one up. "Going to need a name for you," he commented as he found some of the conveniently placed food and started to stuff its face.
He didn't get any convenient suggestions from Tinth, of course. "I know," he said, finally. "I'll call you Thunder." It wasn't a name chosen for appropriateness so much as the first sky-related thing that came into his head, and what were blues if not sky-related.
As Meagen went to heal, Gwen just stood there scowling as -more- firelizards Impressed to people other than her.
Even the firelizards didn't want her. Well, she didn't need anyone. She was starting to consider just leaving. She was destined to be alone, that much was clear, but she was not showing weakness in front of the Weyrwoman.
Maybe she should just...go.

Nixsha shook her head, while she sat down the brownrider and tended to her arm, using the items she carried on her person. "No... I believe she will be just fine" She said as she poured water unto a clean cloth and started to scrub the wounds clean. She slapped on some numbweed, a thin coat. Then she pulled out a needle and thread and started to stitch. The finger wasn't bad just puncture wounds, but the lacerations on the arm, would need tending too. "No its fine, I have everything I need on me..' she motioned to the odd belt she wore, with all the odd sized pouches on it. "Now... I need you to come in twice to get these changed..." She said as she put some cream on them and wrapped them. "You took a risk, he almost severed the artery." She commented lightly.
Meagen winced harshly as she was all bandaged up. Then she looked towards Gwen, her eyes set hard, as her blues started to creel to her and she shushed them with a whistle. "Do not... push off your insecurities and angers off on me candidate." she snapped as she slowly stood. "Fire-lizards are NOT just a profit for me, they are my friends. Now... if you hadn't been so Sharding rude and obtuse, I MIGHT... I MIGHT have given you some of the eggs. They aren't selling to well and I will probably have many that will be given away when the day to pass them out for hatching comes. BUT Because you where such a Sharding Wherry brain, and obviously a rude little tunnel snake, I won't. Nope, I won't, not unless I get a full APOLOGY FROM YOU!" She stated as she looked to the Weyr woman. "I must apologize... my actions seem bad... but saying I only think of Fire-lizards as a profit, is like saying to you that you only like Dragons because they give you Rank."

"'M awf'lly sorry 'bout 'im. 'E'll git better, Ah'm shor."
Velka felt incredibly awkward when Meagan started to yell at the other girl. She hadn't caught much of their argument, but apparently the one candidate accused Meagan of being into fire lizards for business. It didn't matter, Meagan was still fine, no matter what.
Just thinking about the encounter made Velka grin. Mayhap this situation could be defused easily, with just a well placed pick-up line.
"Naw, two sich loverly ladies oughtened t'be squabblin' like a pair o' wherries afta th' same carcass."
Crude metaphor, but it suited Velka's coarse tongue. She stepped between them, and slipped one arm over Meagan's shoulder, and one over Gwen's.
"Y'gels need t' stop arufyin' s'much. It arn't good fer the two o' ye, and it shor arn't good fer yer littles."

Gwen pulled away from Velka. "As you can see, I don't have one. And don't ever, ever touch me without my permission again," she snapped at her. "Some people don't mind it. I do."
Well, defused? No. Now Gwen's anger was being aimed at Velka instead of Meagen. "I'll go find myself a wild clutch before..." Well, some of it, anyway.
R'mer was backing away, taking Thunder out of range of the feline-fight. Women. Maybe he should -hope- he preferred guys...because girls were nuts!

Kora was truly getting beyond standing listening to all these women bicker, despite the high level of tolerance she usually had. Perhaps it was Nayarath’s influence, for the Gold wanted the trio gone. One of them had already Impressed, one already had seven fire-lizards, and one was just a sharding dimglow that the remains of Dwarth’s egg shouldn’t even pay attention to (in Nayarath’s words at least, she still wasn’t sure whether she was fond of that Blue or not).
“You three.” Lilac leapt from her basin to Kora’s shoulder as she approached the women. The Violet took up a protective pose, wings half-spread and jaw half-open, eyes flashing dangerously. One had ducked away from the woman Kora was pretty sure she recognized as a beastcrafter, the other still seemed to be lingering under her arm. She was the newly Impressed Brownrider wasn’t she? Perhaps that didn’t surprise the Weyrwoman much then.
“Nayarath and Lilac would probably be pleased if I simply kicked you all out right now,” Kora said in a low voice. “You, beastcrafter, have a fire-lizard now. You didn’t need to get into this fight either, your Bronze was choking but he is alright now and you could have left. I don’t need people in here who are going to add themselves to a fight that didn’t need to happen.”
“And you, Meagen?” She turned to the Brownrider and hoped the hesitation before Nayarath supplied the girl’s name wouldn’t be noticed, “You have plenty of fire-lizards, I am sure. They have both just clutched. How many eggs is that you have on hand? I am allowing Lilac’s eggs to go for free to people who would like one and have none, or very few at least and little access to more. You have probably a couple dozen chances to get whatever you’re looking for here from your own fire-lizards, and if you sell all the eggs you have right now, they will always lay more.”
Kora sighed softly and looked at the seething Candidate. Lilac seemed the most irritated with her. The Weyrwoman absently stroked the Violet as she began to speak again. “I don’t want to batter you more than you already must feel like you have been,” she said gently. “You’re welcome to stay, but hush. Those closest to my heart are feeling likely to just chase you out if they hear another angry word. All of you can continue your argument elsewhere, but there are others here too. And eggs hatching too. This should be a happy occasion. Weren’t there dragons and fire-lizards singing just moments ago?”
The weyr did seem oddly quiet now that Lilac and Nayarath had fallen silent, even if other fire-lizards were humming elsewhere. Kora frowned, looking over the three, and finally sighed. “Maybe you should tend to your Brown Meagen, Nayarath tells me he sounds worried. Maybe you should go herd your herdbeasts, you have a fire-lizard.” She nodded to the beastcrafter. Kora didn’t know what to say to the Candidate. She had already spoken more just now than she probably had in her entire life.
Perhaps the fire-lizards had a solution though. They hadn’t held still to listen to Kora’s soft reprimand. The Tan was looking absolutely lost now that his mother had left him and started towards the smell of food, finally. But his way was stopped when he tripped over a small silver-green dragon with violet stripes that had just escaped her egg.
She snarled at the Tan, taking an irritated swipe at him with a paw for being too slow in getting off her again. He squawked with surprise and jerked back. The Barred continued to hiss though and stood up and slunk towards her larger brother. He looked around nervously. The Barred pounced angrily…
And landed on nothing. A soft pop had sounded just as the female had leapt forward. The Tan was gone. The Barred fire-lizard looked around nervously, wondering where the hatchling had gone. Her confusion was only momentary though, hunger overrode surprise. She saw a Violet fire-lizard not far away, looking ready to bite something. Food? She leapt in that direction.
Claws collided with fabric, but she didn’t stop on Kora’s shoulder. That wasn’t what her mother was snarling at. Another leap, powered by legs only seeing as her wings were still soaked with egg-goo, and she crashed into the shoulder of Gwenduinne. For a moment the Barred scrabbled for purchase against the girl’s arm, and finally she managed to scramble onto her shoulder. She opened her mouth, about to take a bite of the human’s ear but then noticed food in her hands just below. With an excited chirp she dove at Gwen’s hands and began munching on the meat. (I suspect she’s still holding it? xP)

Gwen had been about to leave anyway. In her deepest heart, she knew all of this was her fault...well, except for the beastcrafter touching her. The woman needed to learn about that. It was rude not to ask before...and then the tan betweened, and a sort of empty feeling came over her. Hopefully, it had just gone wild, not died... If it had died because of her, and then something hit her shoulder, hard, and clung on.
Sharp talons dug into her, leaving little puncture wounds and very slightly drawing blood. "Ow!" That was completely involuntary, and was her only immediate response to the Weyrwoman's lecture, from which she was now completely distracted by the green firelizard that was on her shoulder and stealing her food.
No. It wasn't -green-. It was like those new dragons, with the violet markings. It was also rather suddenly the most beautiful firelizard on the planet, even if it was hyper as anything. She was still, though, being glared at by the Weyrwoman. With...pity? She didn't need pity. Her heart -had- been battered and tossed all directions, but the little girl on her shoulder was...well. She could be as mad as she wanted, but she wasn't going to risk scaring -another- firelizard between. She looked at Velka, then at Meagen, then at Kora, and all of the fighting seemed to go out of her like a burst balloon. Was that a tear? She was not going to cry in public, even if some of the cries were love for the barred flit and more of them grief for the tan.
She opened her mouth to say something, and the firelizard missed the meat and punctured her finger. "Ow." Then, abruptly, "I...should have been careful what I wished for."
And there was only one expert on training firelizards that she knew of. Perhaps she would have to swallow her pride. But not now. Instead, she encouraged the firelizard to eat meat, not owner. "I think Spunky is a good name for -you-."
Spunky...just munched. Fortunately not on finger.

Z'ris lazily walked in with Jacklith right behind him. Whim was on his shoulder looking around excitedly...sporting his collar.
" It seems that Jacklith has led me here without me knowing it. I guess Whim is too old to play with him like he wants...ha!" He gave a little smile and then took up a place near the basin.
" I do hope that you don't mind this Whim." He gave the Brown a little chin scratch and then turned his attention to the eggs. Jacklith on the other hand wandered around the room...to Elisth.
Hello Elisth! Mine finally got here! Did Yours get a little fire-lizard?!

Meagen stared straight at the Weyrwoman, her eyes unwavering in their intensity. "I never take eggs from my Fire-lizards clutch. Any eggs that are not sold, are given away. You may seem to think I have plenty already, but my reasons for wanting them are not selfish. These new colors, offer new mysteries, and PROBLEMS for my training. I can't use the same training program for a gold on a violet, though they are both obviously queens." She stated lightly then turned to look at Velka. "I thought I told you I was not that way?" She commented as she shifted.
She dropped down into a crouch and stepped away. "Apparently... I am not as understood here, as I thought I would be." She stated plainly as she turned from them all. Her fire-lizards that where not working made their appearances known, now joining the singing and humming anew.

You got one.. Mermaiyeth informed her, looking up at teh blue flitter with curiousity in her eyes, they'd Impressed something. Now they had to name it, but Hers seemed worried by the sounds, didn't she have food? Hadn't someone else brought food in with them? There was some for everyone.
Rebekah looked surprised as she bent and picked the blue up, looking at him with an expression of mixed feelings. Half was hopeful, had she really Impressed? Was that subtle feeling of another bonded in her mind real? The other half was cautious. She'd longed for a flitter for so long, and now she wasn't sure she deserved it. Grabbing some meat and offering it to him gently, she kept a careful eye on him as the little blue took the meat gently with a chirp of thanks. A slow smile formed as she sdtroked his eye ridges, "Hello beautiful." She whispered, handing him another piece of meat. He accepted this too with a chirp. He will be able to protect you when I am not there. You hear that? You are not to go anywhere from Ours. She said the last part sternly to the young blue, who merely nodded as Beka smiled with more happiness than she'd shown since the intial Impression to Mermaiyeth. "My little Valiant."
*
Maiath did the only sensible thing when people started yelling and arguing, she curled herself up into a smaller ball with a tiny whine, making Zadari instantly worry for her. And angry with the arguing pair. "Cut it out!" She snapped, bending to place a hand on Maiath's side, it was obvious now the green hated confrontations of any kind, introductions or arguing, she was shy as anything. So quiet too. She was bringing Zadari back out of her shell swifter than any bolder dragon could of.
"Stop fighting, please. You're frightening Maiath." The weyrwoman stepped in then, and Zadari was content to fix her entire attention on Maiath, even Scuttle who was well known for being annoying, chirped and took off from near the clutch to land near the little green with a worried chirp. Maiath seemed content in her ball though, and it tightened when Kora seemed to get angry. Only when the yeling stopped did the little green lift her head with yellow whirling through her eyes. She didn't like the fighting, but she was missing the hatching. Scuttle shouldn't worry.

Velka glanced at the uncomfortable candidate.
Jus' tryin' t' he'p, Lady. Di'na mean no harm."
She winked at Meagan, and resettled little Disaster into the crook of her arm. The little bronze mumbled a bit, but didn't so much as twitch an eyelid. It was true, these bottomless pits got tired easily!
"Tha'd do well t' learn manna's, youngin'. Tha could git int' trouble one day, an' tha'd any nowt t' blame bu' tha'self," Velka told Gwen, switching demeanors in the blink on an eye.
"G'day, Lady, awl."
Velka left.

Kora sighed softly, now growing worried that she had done something wrong. The beastcrafter left, much to Nayarath, Kora, and Lilac’s relief. The Candidate almost looked ready to cry as she fed her new Barred, although that could be from the injuries her new flitt had inflicted… but Kora doubted that. She was only making things worse, dragging herself into the issue. The girl who already had a fair looked ready to leave…. Kora wished she would, bad as it felt. Did the weyrling care more about her new dragon or getting more flitts? She didn’t need an income from fire-lizard eggs once she was a rider.
“Perhaps you do give them away,” Kora said softly to Meagen’s back, “but that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to keep a couple. This hatching is for people who can’t afford to buy eggs.” If the girl wanted her profession to be caring for fire-lizards, than why had she accepted to be a Candidate?
She’s selfish, Nayarath grumbled. Her excitement at a hatching had been totally deflated by the girl’s fighting. If she wants a dragon and a giant fair but won’t let herself lose a few marks by keeping a couple of her eggs herself then I don’t think she should have been worthy of any of her friends in the first place.
The eggs still weren’t waiting for the issue to be resolved though, three more eggs hatched quickly now. A Brown and Green crawled from neighboring eggs and looked around at this new world curiously while another Green practically exploded from her own egg and dashed at the first thing she saw- a Green creature like her but much bigger.
She missed her target though, and instead collided with Z’ris. No matter… hopefully he would still feed her. The other two hatchlings didn’t seem to know where they wanted to go though. They could smell food but couldn’t see it… maybe once their wings dried they could fly in search of it.

Reiver knelt down and laid his palms open with the meat in them, mentally urging the small creature before him to take the bait. The tan made a small chirp and rushed to the food, the smell must have been strong – because there was blood seeping from it.
Straining to stay still on his knees, he watched the tan firelizard make short work out of most of the meat before giving a small hiccoughesque sound. Slowly he reached forward with the opposite hand at gently stroked the firelizard’s soft hide. “I think I’ll call you Spice.” He whispered gently as he eased the firelizard into his hands; Spice dove for the crook of his arm with a small chirp.
Spice squirmed and kept moving to get himself comfortable, then eventually decided on half clinging, other half laying on Reiver’s forearm.

Z'ris had just walked in, and apparently at the right time! A Green fire-lizard was on him in a flash. She was creeling and peeping for food, making Z'ris smile.
Jacklith tilted his head to one side looking at the little thing that was suddenly in His rider's arms.
Z'ris laughed as he fed the Green some food, slowly to make sure she didn't choke or eat to fast. She couldn't seem to get enough, but when she finally was sated...Z'ris looked at Jacklith.
" So..what to name her?" He grinned down at the cute little Green nearly asleep in his arms.
Flash. Dash. Creel. That seemed to be the final word...one of those names was going to be this Green's.
" Hmm...Flash is good. Let's go with that one." At that the little Green chirped and fell asleep.

Yes, yes, she'd heard the mental bellow, announcing the fire-lizard clutch open to all and sundry. She'd seen several others drop what they were doing and scramble for the door, pausing only to grasp up dripping fistfuls of meat - as if the Weyrwoman didn't have the foresight to provide any for the hatchlings!
As much as she might marvelled at the flighty little creatures, Nove certainly wasn't prepared to throw down her tuber and run like a great bloody idiot through the halls to Impress one. She meticulously finished peeling, picked up another and began into it with her sharp knife. But when the last woman next to her, fidgeting anxiously, tossed down her tuber and blade and darted from the room - despite Nove's obvious, loud sigh - the girl finished up and moved over to the sink to rinse off her knife.
Huffing irritably, she wrinkled her nose at the mostly empty kitchen. Dinner wasn't for a few candlemarks, wasn't it? And those adorable little babies… She'd just go up and have a look. Then right back down again to continue preparing food. Just a peek.
Taking a shortcut through a service corridor up to the Weyrwoman's weyr, the girl slipped through the partially-opened door and took in the sight of the many shattered shells and the happily-Impressed riders and Weyrlings and various other folk.
She nodded, pleased, to herself, wiping her still-wet hands off on her apron and pressed herself against the wall so that she wasn't in the way of the yet-flittless people who had come up in hopes of Impressing to one. Just the sight of the wet, creeling little flitterlings made her grin, even though each of them - it seemed - had already located a suitable source of food and Impressor.
She'd go back to the kitchen right away, she promised herself. Just… just after the last one broke shell. Just so she knew what colour it was, and so that could tell her friends she'd seen them, and prove it.

There were only four eggs left now, one larger and three smaller ones. Two hatchlings were still wandering about the basin too, apparently unsure of how to get out. Finally the Green made a breakthrough, clambering up the towel and falling off the other side. She landed on her back, squawked, spread her wings and hissed at the table before flying angrily away from it. Her wings were still a little wet though, and the flight didn’t last long. She landed on the head of a kneeling boy, Reiver. Lucky him.
Another egg hatched, into a second Barred. She looked around, first at her Brown brother, then at the other eggs, then at the people who smelled so strongly of the food her belly so wanted. There was someone who seemed to be hiding further back that smelled especially strongly, not just of meat but other things that could potentially be yummy. She headed that way, and, after several stumbles, ended up at Nove’s feet.
The Brown was apparently beginning to feel lonely in the basin now, and decided it was time he found his own way out of the bowl. A large flitt egg ended up being in his way though, but he only lingered on top of it after falling for a moment, and then spread his wings and flew straight forwards. Someone out there had to have food.
Before long, the Brown smacked into C’it’s face and crumpled with a surprised squawk into the man’s arms. Once getting over the surprise of the encounter though, he began chirping hungrily.
The large egg that the Brown had tripped over was not the last one in the sands, but it was the only one wobbling. The hatchling’s fall had helped to crack the shell a bit, now a slender violet paw worked its way out a hole, eventually followed by the rest of the body as the egg fell apart.
The Violet wasted no time looking for food. She could smell it, and it wasn’t far away. She leapt to the edge of the basin, jumped off of that, and landed on a small Green who seemed to be curled in a nervous ball. The smell of food was all around her, someone had better give it to her now. Glaring at the Green, it was much larger than her but also a Green, and she was a Violet, she began chirping demandingly for food.
But it wasn’t this dragon that smelled so strongly of something to eat, although she looked to have a very full belly. It was the girl hovering over her…. Turning her attentions to Zadari, the Violet began creeling her demands all over again.
Lilac left Kora’s shoulder to peer at the two still eggs in her sands, but they didn’t look willing to shake. A few careful nudges to each, and still nothing. The Violet chirped softly and then looked over at all her other new young. Fifteen had hatched, fourteen had Impressed. It felt like a very good start for the Violet.

Oh, oh, oh!
As the little barred fire-lizard hop-skip-stumbled from the bowl, Nove clapped a hand to her mouth to silence a gasp that threatened to escape her lips. Another of those fantastic mutations! She'd seen a few dragons, coloured so beautifully, so differently, but to have the fire-lizards adapt, too? Remarkable! She watched in fascination as he - wait, she? Nove thought for but a moment before deciding firmly; noting the delicate wings and petite, angular head it was definitely a she, and a little silvery-green darling she was indeed!
And she was… she was coming towards her? She was! A moment's pause - a fleeting look around to the room to see if anyone would object, and, seeing not even a glance her way - and Nove grinned and swooped down to collect the little barred flitt into her arms, soothingly fussing and stroking and murmuring. "You're a hungry little dear, aren’t you?" The girl chuckled, pulling a finger away from sharp, seeking teeth.
"Here, let's see what I have for you." She patted her apron, and pulled triumphantly pulled out a ragged-looking meatroll, at which the barred flitt snapped eagerly. Breaking it in one palm into bite-sized pieces, she slid down the wall into a sit as she carefully began to feed the open, demanding mouth. It wasn't long before most the roll had disappeared, but Nove noted in relief the hungry cries had muted and the angry red whirling of her eyes had slowed to a more contented blue.
"I suppose you're mine now, are you? And we'll have to think of a name for you?"
If she was expecting some sort of affirmation or response, she would be waiting for some time. A grunting snore drifted up from the newborn flitt, a piece of meat still lodged in her open mouth as she fell asleep where she lay, cradled in the crook of Nove's arm.
"How about… Zunni? Do you like that? Zunni?"
The barred stirred, burying her head into Nove's shirt, eyes still clenched tightly shut.
"Zunni it is, then."
The girl, chores and duties and tubers for the moment completely forgotten, smiled and tilted her head up to watch the last few flitters make their way to their respective partners.

C'it had begun to let his mind wander...and that it was doing until something hit his face. It ended up in his arms, a Brown fire-lizard!
C'it smiled but felt his face, only finding a tiny little scratch on it...though there was a little bead of blood on his finger when his finger came back down. Now though, his new friend needed attention! He began to feed the Brown...filling the little male's stomach quickly.
" Considering that I was lucky in getting you and getting only one scratch in the process...it's up to Lucky or Scratch." He patted the bulging belly of the Brown gently and considered it.
Scratch, Lucky makes it seem like this little fellow is lucky...and we aren't sure about that yet!
C'it laughed and nodded to the Roluth in his head. " Scratch it it then." A little gurgle escaped the Brown as he started to drift off to sleep.

Meagen shook her head a little and smiled wryly at the WeyrWoman. "I don't sell all my eggs ever, they are popular but people can't always afford to buy them. If I keep eggs for myself... then I can't give them away to someone who may not need them. Do not judge others before you truly know their motives." she said simply and then walked out. Her fair that was not guarding the eggs stayed behind, Meagen herself was going back to the Weyrlings Barracks to deal with Toath, who was now awake and worried. I am alright Toath, it's just a misunderstanding. They don't seem to know me as well as they might think they do. She said to her dragon as she walked away.
They should Judge not, lest they be Judged themselves. To judge so quickly, without knowing true motives or intentions, is to cause issues. You are very nice, weren't we just talking about how Dancer's Next clutch would be given away. Plus you give egg marks to anyone that has a flitter that helps guard the clutch. Or anyone that helps guard the clutch, even if its just for a sennight! You still owe eggs to some folks! from what you told me... he said to his mine as he settled down on his resting place, waiting for Meagen to return.
They don't know that, nor do I think they deem me worthy enough for them to figure it out. I must remember to close my shop door in Gwen's face. Not until she apologizes will I allow her into my shop. I tend to do that to those that are rude to me, but it is my RIGHT as the salesperson, to do so. She responded to her dragon, now fully having left the Weyrwomans weyr.

Mine, something landed on me! Maiath got Scuttle's attention as well as Zadari's as she lifted her head slightly to stare at the hatchling. It was very pretty wasn't it, why was she chirping at Maiath? Maiath didn't have food, Hers did. Scutlle on the other hand, got right down to chattering excitedly, a friend! Yay!
"So she did." Zadari bit back a laugh as the violet turned to demand something of her instead of her green, very queenly, demanding and expecting those demands to be followed quickly. Still, a violet? That had been the last thing Zadari would have expected. What are we going to name her? Maiath broke in as she slowly sniffed at the young flitter on her, she was cute, if a little loud.
"I promised you could name if we Impressed, and it seems she found you interesting." Picking up the young violet with a chuckle, she tapped her nose gently when she snapped at her fingers. "Food is coming, be patient." She scolded lightly, before handing her a piece of meat. "There." Laughing as the young violet instantly tore into the food, she glanced back at Maiath, who was trying to think of a name. I don't know... she's very pretty, Rosie? Or ... Um, Crystal? Or... I don't know... "Crystal is pretty. Do you like that Crystal?" Lifting the violet and cuddling her as she said it, Crystal merely cheeped in reply. She was sleepy now.
