Lilac was extremely excited about her seventeen eggs. Perhaps it was not the largest clutch for a fire-lizard, but this had been her very first one, she was a new color that some doubted would clutch in the first place, and there were plenty of big eggs that would probably hatch into bigger fire-lizards. There were small eggs too, and no obvious queen egg, but that didn’t mean that their specifically wasn’t one.
Now they were wobbling. The Violet had laid them in a basin Kora had prepared for her, a sort of webbed metal bowl, lined with a blanket, and then half-filled with sand mixed with ashes. Lilac had dutifully turned the eggs several times a day and spent most of the rest of her free time staring at them. Kora and Nayarath were allowed to come close, Hers was even allowed to touch them, although the giant dragon couldn’t, but no-one else.
Lilac flew into the air with a frenzy of squawks and excited chirps. Wobbling! Hatching! Her babies! She flew to Nayarath, bugling the good news and flying in excited circles, and then whirled back to where her eggs rested. She had dug them up, having buried them somewhat under the sand to keep warmer, to turn and them had been a wobble against her nose! There was a crack forming over one of the larger eggs too, people had better hurry. Nayarath’s weyr was easy to access, being on the ground.
Look KoraMine, little Lilac’s egg hatch! Nayarath purred softly and then began to hum. As though that reminded Lilac, the Violet settled on the edge of the basin and began to sing to her eggs, trying to call them out and into the open.
Call people to come then, please dear heart? I don’t need seventeen fire-lizards. Kora headed over to Nayarath, sitting by her rather than near the eggs. She didn’t particularly want to Impress another flitt just now.
Little Lilac’s eggs hatch! Kora invites you all to come and see if you can get one of her pretty young. Nayarath let her voice spread to anyone who wanted to listen and then lay her head near Kora so Hers could rub her eye ridges.

Y'xem smiled...should he go? He just bought two eggs...one for himself, one for Kora. He figured that he would just deal with one for now...and then Lilac's next clutch could be fair game.
V'ire on the other hand was persuaded to go by his new life-mate. Elisth was hopping up and down excitedly as they hurried down the hall to the Hatching in Nayarath's weyr.
Mine! Come! Let's get a little friend for us to play with! Elisth was going to wear herself out before the fire-lizards even hatched!
V'ire and Elisth entered and walked up to the basin. He had thought to stop by the Kitchens and get a good bit of raw meats. He smiled at the Weyrwoman. " Hello Weyrwoman! Elisth wishes to have a friend!"
With that he returned his attention to the basin and the rocking eggs, one hand on Elisth's head.

Gwen jumped a bit at a dragon voice in her head. Eggs. Hatching. Oh! Firelizard eggs.
She was in the kitchens, which was rather convenient, as it meant she was able to grab a few scraps of meat in a bowl before making her way to the source of the voice.
The Weyrwoman's weyr. She couldn't resist glancing around as she entered. Weyrwomen got ground weyrs, probably for convenience when their dragons were broody and would not leave the Sands even to give their rider a lift home. It was large, too, but then, it had to be. Nayarath seemed huge. She smiled at rider and dragon, and then curtseyed. "Weyrwoman, I would like to try for one of the little ones." The clutch dam was a violet. Did that mean the violet -dragon- would clutch?
A violet might or might not be able to lay a gold, but maybe she would Stand anyway. There might be another violet, and that would be almost as good, surely. Seventeen eggs. And they were firelizards. She didn't exactly care about color with -them-.
It wouldn't determine her life, after all.

Reiver was sitting back in the barracks when he heard a foreign voice spread through his head. ‘A flit hatching,’ he mused to himself. He stood and stretched, then scurried down the corridors. Of course he would try, it was hard enough not impressing before. Maybe, just maybe, there was some luck in the pretty lilac flitter’s clutch. He turned to go into the kitchens.
He scrambled collecting bloody meatbits, and made his way to the Dragon Riders weyrs. Seeing the one with the most people in it, he peered in, and sure enough there was a lilac firelizard. He turned white as he entered as it contained the Weyrwoman. He swallowed hard, and squeezed the meat in his hand involuntarily.
“May I try my luck today, also?”

T'lat was sitting in his bed with Hansth at his side when he heard the voice saying there was a flit Hacthing. The idea made him excited as he looked at Iron so he stood up and then Hansth walked up beside and said to him and said Come on Mine lets go. It would be good for you to have anthoer one of the little ones around. T'let smiled and Iron flew up to his shoulders and the left.
They quickly had to stop by the kicthen to get some scraps of meat. Then he headed to the Weyrwomans wyer. When he got inside he glanced around being sort of nervous. Yet he knew that Hansth was there beside him. He then said to the Weyrwoman " I would like to try for one of the little one. To have anthoer friend." He then reached down and began to scrath Hansths head to calm his nervousness.

Nixsha arrived, as usual in a hurry, and looking a bit disheveled. But that apparently was a constant for the healer. Her hair was messily braided, and a cup of Klah was in her hand. She was starting to think she had a minor case of narcolepsy. As of late, when she wasn't having insomnia problems, she was passing out randomly, when people weren't bugging her. As of yet, it hadn't been too problemmatic, but she decided she wanted a little friend from this clutch. As well as the ones that she would buy from the girl in the lowercaverns.
Meagen herself had arrived, why may you ask? Simple... she wanted one of the new colors. She had NO idea whether Dancer or Hope would clutch the new colors. So she had arrived, she bowed at the waist and smiled at the Weyrwoman. "I know it's rather odd for me to appear like this, because I have eggs of my own. But I wish to try for some of the newer colors. I know I am a weyrling, but I assure you, I can more then adequately care for a young Fire-lizard and a dragon. I am not bragging, I swear to you, it's just the truth. " She said as she bowed again.

Kora sighed softly with relief as she noticed all the people flooding in. They all seemed to have brought food of their own too, she probably didn’t need to worry about that either. Meagen’s appearance surprised her though, didn’t the girl have seven flitts already? Why would she want more? Kora couldn’t understand that. It sounded almost selfish, her coming in only to Impress a new color when she had two clutches on her hands already, and seven flitts at the snap of her fingers.
Nayarath’s eyes whirled as she noticed a few of her young coming too. So they were curious about the fire-lizards too? The Gold had never gotten to watch a flitt hatching before, most were in the lower caverns of the Weyr and the giant dragon couldn’t go there. Maybe it was a good thing though, these eggs seemed so small Nayarath had often been worried she would inhale them if she wandered a bit too close.
Lilac, despite how pleased Hers seemed to be, wasn’t as sure about this sudden flood of people and chirped nervously. Not many had brought fire-lizards, which was a little disappointing. There had been many fire-lizards and dragons at the dragon hatching, why didn’t the fire-lizards come to hers? Instead, she mostly only saw people wanting them.
The egg that had nearly broken before anyone came in finally fell apart to reveal a wet Blue fire-lizard. He scrabbled away from the other eggs and towards the edge of the basin, using the rough surface of the towel to crawl out. There wasn’t something so convenient on the far side though, and the little Blue promptly fell to the table below.
A huffy sort of chirp escaped him as he struggled clumsily to his feet. But that moment of pain was overridden by the pain in his belly, crying for food. There was a big purple fire-lizard just above him, but she was only looking at him, not feeding him. Where could he go to eat?
A faint whiff of something that just had to be delectable reached the hatchling’s nose and he started towards it. Another tumble off the table, but soon he found himself closer to the smell. But now it was above him?! His wings wouldn’t open, they were stuck closed with egg-goo. He chirped hungrily to the boy he had stopped at, V’ire.
A Bronze hatched next and looked around. First he saw his mother, hovering over curiously but offering nothing to eat, then the other eggs, then odd heads of other creatures some ways away. They smelled of food. But he had to make a journey…
And there was an egg in the way. The Bronze tripped, successfully hatching another egg. A Brown scrambled from that one, practically crawling on top of his brother before pausing to look around. With an irritated hiss, the Bronze rolled away and started towards the food-smell again. The Brown, looking surprised, followed his larger brother. Several falls and finally a spreading of wings from both carried the pair to a frazzled-looking woman who carried something that smelled good. The Brown plopped into this cup while the Bronze dug his claws into the woman’s shirt to stop his first short flight. The Bronze immediately began creeling hungrily, the Brown took a moment to see if this liquid he had landed in was any good, but decided it wasn’t and also began begging for food. Nixsha had gotten a pair of flitts for herself.

Gwen watched the three firelizards hatch and Impress...and one of the other people present got two. She kept her face carefully neutral, but inside she was seething.
Left on the Sands and now -this-? But she showed no outward sign of it, instead making sure she had meat scraps ready just in case. There were still fourteen...but two? Two was totally not fair. She deserved two, if the other girl got to have them!
R'mer stumbled in a moment after the firelizards Impress. He hoped Tinth wouldn't mind a little friend, if he got one, but to start with he stayed back, partly because he wasn't entirely sure he wanted one and partly because he didn't want to get too close to Gwenduinne, who struck him as rather a snob. He hoped -she- wouldn't Impress a gold or violet, if there was one in the clutch. She'd probably...nah. That wasn't fair. He didn't know her well enough to judge. Instead he smiled at Kora. "Weyrwoman," he greeted, cheerfully.
Three already Impressed, but fourteen eggs left...plenty of chances. Tinth in his head wanted a mini-Tinth...a blue...and he laughed a little bit. There'd be blues, surely?

"Oi, Velka! Take some of this up to the Weyrwoman's quarters. Her violet's clutch is hatching!"
"Why me? Why not git one o' yer addle-pated offspring t' do it?" Velka looked at the heaping bowl of meat, and then back up to the butcher.
"Because you're not afraid of raw meat, and you're convenient. Who knows, Weyrwoman Kora may give you an egg for your own?" The butcher was wheedling, and they both knew it. Velka sighed, exasperated, and grabbed the large, over-filled bowl.
"Y'owe m'fer this, y'know," she informed the bloodspattered meat chopper. He just grinned at her infuriatingly, and shooed her off with his hands.
_~_
"Wh'ver carved these stairs were cracked," Velka decided as she examined the hall of weyrs extending in either direction.
"An' th' mumper as designed this place, 'e b'longs in th' b'tween riders is so fond o' usin'." She struck off to her left, hoping that she hadn't picked the wrong direction.
A~ha! She must have picked the right place, because she could see two women enter- neither of them with the look of the Weyrwoman - who she had seen only at a distance, or in the Feeding Pens . And one of them had the look of that female brown rider she'd purchased eggs from.
"Naw, wha' d's a gel like her need wi' ano'er lizard?" she mused as she followed their example, and entered the weyr.
The Healer, the fire-lizard seller, two without rank cords, and three riders had already arrived. She knew that one of the riders was the Weyrwoman, and she could tell from their rank cords that a bronze rider and a blue rider graced their midst.
She held the bowl of meat out, and shouldered her way to the table that seemed to house the clutch. At least, a big, purple winged thing was guarding a number of whitish spheres.
"S'm own sayd y'd wan' meat. I brung some fer ye."
She put the meat on the table, and backed up, not sure if she should go or not. Was it okay to stay?
To improvise between staying and leaving, Velka retreated to the back of the group.

V'ire had looked over at Elisth for a split second, and that was when he heard the hungry creeling at his feet.
Elisth gave a chirp of excitement as she saw the Blue hatchling at the same time as Hers. V'ire picked him up and backed away a little to give anyone that hadn't found a fire-lizard on them a chance. He grinned at the little one as he began to feed him.
" You're a rather regal Blue aren't you? What to name him...Elisth, any ideas?" V'ire grinned as the fire-lizard continued to eat quite daintily.
How about Kiyo?
" Hmm...well I guess for the lack of a better name, Kiyo it is!" V'ire grinned and scratched Kiyo's eye ridges. The little Blue was already getting a little sleepy.
C'it skidded in, and sighed. " Ok, I'm late...but at least there are some left." He nodded to the Weyrwoman and Nayarath, taking up a place around the basin.

"Alright! Fine! I'll go!" Zadari snarled angrily at the blue pulling on her hair gave a self satisfied chirp and chittered happily. Of course the stupid thing would want her to go, for Zadari didn't want to go. Scuttle wanted a friend though, of course, someone else to annoy the sanity out of, sharding flitt. Mine? I... I'd like one... Could we go and see? Please?
Maiath's interuption stopped Zadari's anger swiftly adn she turned towards her bonded with surprise. She wanted anohter one? But Scuttle annoyed the living daylights out of her didn't he?No. Not really... We play. I pretend to be annoyed. Oh. Well... That changed things. Glaring at Scuttle as she got to her feet, she hissed softly "You are so not off the hook mister. "
Scuttle swooped in before Zadari, landing somewhere near the clutch yet not close enough to anger Lilac. Wasn't her clutch pretty?! Joining in the humming after he'd greeted her, Scuttle was the calmest Zadari had ever seen him. Maiath curled up behind Zadari, watching the weyrwoman quietly as though expecting the other to yell at her for coming with Hers. "I-uh... Greetings weyrwoman, and you Lilac." A smile and nod to the young mother of the clutch, "Would you mind if I stayed to see if I might Impress one of your children?"
* Go. But... I want one now. So do go Mine.
The order had been given, and it was with much hestitation that Beka had actually come along to the Hatching. Mermaiyeth wanted one, but so did Beka. She'd wanted one for... A long time, since before her father had started the beatings. For Beka, that was a long, long time. And Mermaiyeth wasn't possessive, she was quite happy to share her bonded with something else that Beka had wanted for a long time. She'd never deny her Beka anything.
Shifting uncomfortably as she nodded her head to the weyrwoman, Beka jumped as Mermaiyeth nudged her hand gently. No matter how afraid she got, she was always there to offer courage. Amoung other things. Advice, but she was firm and strict at times. Yet, Beka loved every aspect of her. "G-good day Weyr-weyrwoman. I- I mean, could I..." Mine wishes to know if it would insult yours, or upset the little one if she stayed to watch. She finds the flitters beautiful and has longed for one for a long time. Mermaiyeth cut across, speaking to Nayarath respectfully as she rested her head against Beka's hip.

A Bronze hatched just in time to see someone walking away. She smelled so strongly of food! Without paying any attention to his wings too wet to be spread, he leapt at her. The hatchling only just made it, clinging to the back of Velka’s shirt with desperation. The food smell, food! It was with her! But where was the food? He bit into the fabric he clung to, but it didn’t taste very good. With an angry chirp, he scuttled to the woman’s shoulder and set to creeling a demand for food.
A Green hatched next, her hide a little darker than average, but perhaps that was just the egg-goo. She smelled food, and it was very nearby. Crawling from the basin, she headed next for a bowl of meat someone had so kindly left out for her. She crawled into that next and happily began munching away.
The eggs weren’t going to wait for their sister to find a human though, a Tan was the next to crawl from his egg. He looked down and saw a Green sitting happily in a bowl that smelled very good, but he also smelled food somewhere else. Where to go? Indecision led to a fall, and the fall left him further away from the bowl of food than he was to the other smell. Stumbling forwards, the Tan eventually found his way to Riever.
As the Green was eating the egg-goo was drying up, and finally instinct led her to test her wings. Still carrying a little meat in her paws, just in case wherever she went left her with no food, she curiously began testing her wings. A short flight was ended with her crashing into T’lat and dropping her meat. The Green was still hungry. She began chirping to the boy, hoping for more food.

Meagen watched silently as the creatures crawled from their eggs. Her eyes narrowing, and her attention avid on the creatures. Now she was finally seeing some of the new colors hatch! Amazing! She pulled out a note pad and started taking notes. She looked towards the Weyrwoman, and got an inkling of what the woman was thinking. "I know... it may seem odd... but I hope to impress some of the newer colors for my work." She commented lightly as she watched the impressions and the hatchlings rather avidly. She shifted a little as that woman Velka came in and shifted to hide herself behind one of the others in the room.
It was then that Dip and Skip popped in to hum, eyes swirling as they watched the hatchlings. They never missed a hatching!
Nixsha was startled when the little brown landed in her cup of Klah. She stared at it a little startled, and then looked down at the bronze that was clinging to her shirt. Well, this was definitely interesting to say in the least. Her eyes widened a little, as she scratched her head and watched them. She needed to feet them, oh yeah! She began that process, pulling from her pouch the meatrolls she had, and breaking them apart, and feeding tiny pieces to the creatures, as you would a child. The bronze and brown creeling up a storm as they sought their sustenance from the women.
"I shall name you... Klah" she said to the brown... and then she looked at the bronze, "And you shall be... Cling.."

Gwenduinne shot Meagen a glare, then, quietly, "You already -have- half a fair. If not all of one. Give the rest of us a chance. You only want them to get rich off of anyway." She was angry. The firelizards were showing no interest in her and now the woman who treated them as a -business- was here to try and claim another female who's eggs would go based off of who had the marks, not who really -wanted- them.
Or who would treat them right. She would treat one like a little prince or princess...but apparently that wasn't enough. "You want to have everyone have to come to you for eggs." Her voice elevated a little.
R'mer just watched. If one came to him, it did, and as the snobby girl started to verbally lay into the egg seller...it wasn't that she didn't have a point, maybe she did, but...sheesh. They were -both- selfish wherries and should -both- leave, in the blue weyrling's mind.
That tan was handsome...but none came towards him. He moved to join the circle, maybe he was too far away. Maybe.

Meagen turned then looking at the young woman that was speaking to her. Oh yes, it was the one that had been adamant she would impress a GOLD. The young woman's words, obviously angered Meagen, for her hands clenched, and her jaw ground back and forth. She would try and be civil with this other young woman, it was the least she could do. "I do not want them to get rich off of, I want them because of my profession. I am a Fire-lizard Healer and Caretaker. I wish for the new colors, because I never had the opportunity for them before. I need to learn their mannerisms and actions, so I can better teach fire-lizards of those colors, when people ask me too." She stated as she shifted a little, her arms crossing over her chest, showing she was getting a little insecure.
"And no... actually I DON'T" She snapped at gwen, finally having lost her cool. Turning her head as she closed her eyes as she started to shake faintly. Meagenmine, what is wrong! Who is bothering my princess! How dare they accuse you of not caring! His mental voice rose, it was not private so other dragons could hear it. Meagen was indeed shaking, to the point that Dip swooped down and creeled at her sadly, and the female lovingly stroked him behind the eye. "It's alright Dip" she said in a shaky voice.

Gwen snapped back. "You have -seven-. Give the chances to the people who have -none-." The girl was a female brownrider, too. Undoubtedly, she was unnatural...but even that wasn't the point.
The girl might claim to be a healer, but Gwen had seen her little trading stall. "And I don't just mean me." She finger-flicked at R'mer. "Don't think the blueling has one either. You already have more than your share."
It wasn't, really, about the firelizards. It was about how fragile she really was under the pose, under the desperation to Impress gold. To be something. To prove herself, one way or another, to be worth more than wherry dung.
Which was how she had felt after the Hatching. Wherry dung.

T'lat was not paying attietion to anything around him expect the little green at his feet. He reached down and petted her and began to feed he siad to her " Hello my dear. Now what shall I call you." He then smiled and said " I shall call you Emerald. You shall be my little Emerald." So the little green had eaten and fell asleep and T'lat picked the precouis bundle up and held her in his arms. Hansth then said to T'lat See MIne we now have anthoer little one with us. T'lat just smiled at the green while holding it.

Velka didn't have much warning beyond the snap of the eggshell breaking, and then the weight suddenly clinging to the back of her shirt before the creeling started.
"Wot th' bloody blazes!" she exclaimed, startled by the bronze's demand for food.
She grabbed a handful of meat, and attempted to dislodge her bronze. The hatchling, however, was having none of that. He sank his claws into her shoulder, and reached down to grab greedily at the meat she held.
Thankfully, that butcher had known what he was doing- most of the meat in the bowl had been chopped into hatchling-sized bites. But some weren't, and Velka's bronze latched onto a particularly big gobbet, and promptly started to choke.
"Blast! Gi' me tha', y' lil varmint!" Velka wrestled with the bronze- still firmly lodged on her shoulder- as she attempted to pry his jaws open to retrieve the meat.
He wouldn't let her open them, and was still choking.
"S'mb'dy do somethin'! Help m' git 'is jaws open!"

Meagen whirled towards the women that was calling out, her eyes widening in fear. "Oh SHARDS!" she snapped as she completely ignored Gwen now and rushed over to velka. She pressed on the joints of the foot to dislodge the little bronze from the women. She turned the small creature and pressed the pressure point on his jaw, and winced as she dove her finger down into his throat, hooking her finger and pulling up. She threw the glob of meat away, and handed the bronze back. "Watch what you feed him, nothing bigger then this..." She stated as she made a motion with her hands.
She then stared at her hand, the lacerations ran up and down her arm, from the panicked firelizard. Her finger was in ribbons of sorts as well, bite marks puncturing it. She winced only faintly, as Dip and Skip creeled to her in concern, eyes swirling with panic. Meagen was just startled by her arms, and stared at the blood. Then shifted and clenched her hand closed, to apply pressure to her finger, and then clamped her good hand HARD on her arm.
Nixsha turned, to stare at the event that had unfolded. The girl definitely had experience with the little creatures, but she was also very lacerated. "Oh.. shardits..." She muttered as she tucked her two fire-lizards into the crook of her shoulder and neck, both sated creeled softly in confusion and clung unto the fabric and her hair. Nixsha walked over to the young woman and stared at her. "Let me see the arm!' She snapped. When the young woman offered it, Nixsha started her work. She looked over her shoulder at Gwen glaring heavily at the female.

Nayarath glowered at the arguing girls, but Hers was remaining silent and so she did too. But the Gold wouldn’t hold off much longer if they kept arguing… at least the choking Bronze was causing a distraction. Lilac seemed just as distracted by the two and paused in her humming to hiss at the girl who hadn’t Impressed before turning back to her eggs. They, at least, didn’t seem to notice the going-ons.
Two Blues hatched in quick succession, their violently shaking eggs crashing into each other and releasing both brothers. Despite this closeness of hatching, they immediately broke off in different directions. One Blue headed to a girl, the other to a boy. Neither smelled quite of food, but that was where as-yet-unused feet brought them.
So R’mer and Rebekah ended up with hungry new Blues.
A Tan followed his brothers out of another egg, although he wasn’t quite as prompt in escaping the basin. Instead he looked up at Lilac and chirped hopefully, half-opening his mouth like a baby bird might. The Violet only looked at him and then gave the Tan a nudge with her muzzle, trying to get him towards a person. But right now, he would have none of it.
