Lilac, Nayarath said, had been chattering for some time about rising and finding the best little male in the whole Weyr and taking him for herself. The dragon hadn't thought to tell Hers that until the fire-lizard took suddenly into the sky though, and the minute version of the lust that hit Kora when Lilac suddenly took off from her shoulder, headed for the Weyr Bowl, took the Weyrwoman by surprise.
You should pay more attention to her, Nayarath chided Kora as she started to rush after the flitt. Usually when Lilac darted off like that she expected the woman to follow. Stay here and help me keep the eggs company.
So Kora remained on the Hatching Sands with Nayarath and only heard the echo of Lilac's excited trumpets and buglings and more or less felt everything else the flitt did.
Lilac was very excited for her maiden Flight. She hadn't been allowed to participate in Nayarath's, but that had been exciting too, and now it was her turn and the giant Gold couldn't participate in hers! Hah, she was stuck with eggs! Lilac had the sky to herself... although she would have to share it when some suitors arrived. Ah, well, they would all be following her.
Right? Well, if they didn't, Lilac would make sure to get them back in line. She bugled again and flew in large circles, allowing the bouyant air mostly to carry her now. She wouldn't waste her energy waiting for males; that would all go into making her Flight amazing.

Zenniel was usually so tuned to Mura’s emotions that she needed only minutes notice before he dashed away from her. In fact, he normally stuck right by her side throughout any of those emotions. Of course, Mura couldn’t stay by her side when a small queen fire-lizard was starting to Fly. In fact, she knew nearly thirty minutes before Lilac was to fly because Mura started to vibrate. He, like all Bronzes, knew when a Queen flitter would fly. He had noted earlier that day, when Zenniel had made her inconspicuous way to the Hatching Sands, that Lilac’s hide was shining brighter than it had before. That, he knew, meant she was to Fly soon. He also knew that he had to be the first chaser, to show her that he wasn’t always a shy little one.
Which made Zenniel laugh. She was sitting alone in her favorite spot in the Weyr, a high ledge where little to no people ever went and were little to no people knew about. It was here where she spent most of her time, where she made her own stories and became immersed in her imagination. Mura was often in her imagination, too. But now, as she noted happily, he was too wound up to participate in her dragon day-dreams, the dreams were she had a dragon, a Queen most of the times, and were Mura was the highest ranking flitter. How could Mura be the highest-ranking flitter? Oh well, he liked it, at least.
Mura knew as soon as Lilac took to the skies. He got shivers down his back. He had been staring straight at the entrance to the Sands, waiting for her violet form to come shooting outward like a star. It had come, but differently than he had thought. Nevertheless, he nudged Zenniel’s cheek before spreading his wings and taking flight. He had, before, been sucking out the insides of many creepy crawlies; the only ones he stayed away from were trundlebugs. Now, full of energy and ready to Chase, he pumped his wings.
Zenniel waved goodbye to him. The only friend she had ever really had, Mura had to go do this now. She knew he had to prove himself to the little violet Queen. And Mura would prove himself. Already, with every wingbeat he took he drew closer. His bugle was not as loud as hers—why should he try to be more than a Queen?—but at least it showed her that he was there. He swirled behind her, his wings catching on updrafts, and he was now only slightly below her. The only one Chasing her so far.
Please let it stay that way.

Zuris was busy replacing glows in a small hall-way with Whim when the Brown suddenly began to chatter in an awkward key. He fluttered in front of Zuris only long enough for the boy to see the hints of purple in his whirling eyes.
As the little fire-lizard eagerly darted off Zuris chuckled saying, " Go on then Whim, chase well!"
Of course he would chase well! He was a fairly fast Brown fire-lizard. Agile, sleek, Whim was a little conceited really. He flew straight for the circling Violet and bugled to her, his own little challenge.
He had only participated in one other Flight, and his Keeper only knew of that because of the small tinges of lust that came back through their bond. She had been a very small Gold, wild of course...and he had lost.
He wanted to win this time, so as he began to circle beneath the beautiful Violet Lilac, his eyes taking on more of her coloring, he crooned to her sweetly.

Jareth had been resting peacefully before the violet beauties cry had gone out. He noticed that Guardian just lifted his head made a huffing sound,a and settled back down with the Fair leader Hope. He creeled out his disgust, as he spread his wings, and took to the sky. He was going to need all the strength he could get, so he took out a small bird, not taking any of the meat, leaving that for Dip and Skip. Then he took off after the Violet beauty.
His wingsails spread out as he shifted, and tried to gain altitude to approach her. He was well known for his chases, he had won almost all of Dancers, and had caught several wild golds before. He was proud of his accomplishments and was proud to chase this exotic beauty. He trilled in greeting to the violet queen Lilac, and then began his approach. The purple tones of lust, already swirling in his eyes.
Fellan had been out hunting, ready to hunt actually. When the call came out. He was not new to the chasing scene, and he was indeed young enough still that a good chase could get him fired up. He heard Jareth's mating call to the violet queen named Lilac. That fired him up to try and beat Jareth for a change. He gave a call of pleasure, as he took to the sky fully and brought himself to where the violet queen was.
His eyes swirling purple, with lust as he made it clear he intended to chase. Hopefully this time, he would beat out Jareth.

Willow chattered excitedly in Tirasha's ear, his quick notice that he was about to run off. Since he very rarely did, it seemed very important to the Bronze that he alert His before just leaving. Tianthe gurgled, she always found it somehow funny when her brother ran off to try and win a queen. Tirasha grinned and shooed him off her shoulder as she heard the bugles of a little fire-lizard somewher near the Hatching Grounds.
"You can win a little queen; go on then." Tirasha laughed as he flew off.
Willow chirped happily and shot off towards where the little Violet queen flew. Her bugles were clear and strong, a good sign. Hopefully this would be a long Flight, Willow had the energy. He arced easily into Lilac's circle and glanced at what other males had joined so far. A Brown and another Bronze? Not much competition. Willow could win this; he would make Lilac's maiden Flight very worth it.
Yes, this was a Flight he could win. Willow had caught queens before, why not this one? He crooned softly to Lilac, focusing solely on her. No movement would get by Willow unnoticed; he would follow every trick she tried and maybe perform a few of his own. Just as long as he proved he was worthy of her...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Five suitors? And two of them Browns? Did they really think they could catch a Violet lovely as Lilac? The fire-lizard rather doubted it. She wanted an amazing mate, the best in the Weyr. Could that really be a Brown? But she wouldn't simply discard them as a choice, not yet at least. They had thought to come and chase her, perhaps they could prove themselves better than a Bronze.
Having waited as long as she had, Violet figured it was about time she really started the Flight and curved suddenly away from the circles she had previously been making and shot off across the Bowl. Could they keep up with a queen as fast as her? Violet took another sharp turn, this one more steeply up than any other direction, and gave an excited bugle. This was her first Flight, and it had better be a good one.
Kifer took off leaving his pet behind as soon as he heard the Violet flit's call. Creeling he flew as fast as he could toward the Violet flit. When he reached the rest of the gaggle he dipped into some dives and swung up again. He was having tons of fun out here just flying around. He sent her little pieces of thoughts about how great and gorgeous she was.
He followed the Violet always making sure that he never got to close so as to make her mad but he always stayed close enough that he could grab her if he wanted. He was enjoying the flight she lead. He always liked the fast and furious flights the best. Trumpeting once more he sent her little pictures of how great she was. Of how great her flight was.
Jokyl was amazed at the little tan's take off from the record room until he realized that there was a flight going on from the feeling and fragments he received from the tan. After analyzing them in his mind for a second, he decided that the flit must be a violet and he then went back to reading.
As Lilac broke from the circles, Whim quickly took after her. He chirped excitedly to her...promising to do his best.
He beat his wings powerfully, keeping the distance between himself and the beautiful shining Violet small...but not too small. As she arched up in a turn, he followed, closing the distance even more.
Now he slowed his wing-beats. He didn't want to give all his energy right away! No, no...She deserved all of his energy in tricks or shows of his agility. It didn't matter what color he was! Browns could be agile! He was one of them, and he would do his best to win her over.
Zuris sighed as he sat down at the table to eat a quick meal. He was not that affected by the Flight, but he could feel the little fire-lizard's heart beating with lust for the Violet temptress.
Ok, so maybe the fire-lizard Flight was affecting him a little more than he had thought. He and Whim were fairly close.
Fellan darted ahead, angling his wings and sweeping past Jareth. Causing the Bronze to squawk in alarm. Well not squawk but something d**n close to it. His wings angles so he came up alongside the other brown creeling along to him. They would both show her that just because they where browns, didn't mean they couldn't be good enough! No indeed, they where good enough, and they would sharding show the world, they would outfly the bronzes. he shifted a little giving the other brown plenty of room. The other brown was his real challenge.
He would reserve his energy a little bit and twisted his body. He would show off if just a little, and he was good at showing off when it came to it. But more then that, he would be dedicated to her and the clutch that came, if she chose him.
Jareths sound of lust and alarm was heard as he took off after the violet queen. He was annoyed that his fair-mate thought he could outdo a bronze. What where those browns thinking! They could never catch a queen as lovely, as fair as this violet specimen before him. Why she was just as lovely as a gold! Yes, indeed she was, in Jareth's lust filled mind and eyes. Which both where spinning with those emotion's in a rather twisted manner. He call went out as he brought himself up with the browns, but he was going to hang back just a little, because he needed to reserve his energy.
Mura watched as more suitors followed his example. It really wouldn’t have been fun to just chase this pretty little Violet by himself. Little? Sheesh, she was no little thing, though by human standards she was pretty small. Was he a human, was he as large as His? No, he was not, so to him she was a beauty! And, though she was not his yet, he would strive toward making her his. She would undoubtedly be impressed by all of the other male’s actions, and because of that he wanted to impress her more. He wanted her to choose him not for his victory over her, but rather for his victory over them. He would not subdue her. He would not touch her, for, unless a queen wanted one to touch her, she should be untouched.
She would be untouched.
When most of the suitors had caught up with her, Lilac veered suddenly toward one end of the Bowl. The large bronze fire-lizard studied her movements, his eyes whirling gently in the hues of love. He, being shy and calculative, now calculated her moves before she made them. He noticed a slight twitch in wingtip before she veered. He would look for that again when she veered next, for he knew she would. She was one of those spritely little fire-lizards that, when Rising, would exert all her strength into confounding her opponents. This, he added with a slight chirp to himself, was also her maiden flight.
Lilac would give it all she got.
He followed slowly, meticulously. He chose which air currents to ride and which ones not to. He chose whether or not he should bank here or flap his wings there. He was slowly catching up to the flighty queen, and not yet as close to the other suitors, but he would see her moves before the others would. So caught up in lust, the others would follow only after she had made her moves. Staying this far back, comfortably still in the ‘race,’ but not so far back that she would not include him from her list of chasers, would help him in the long run. He studied her movements so well that he saw another slight falter in her wingtip before she turned, almost literally on her tail, to soar off in another direction.
She was going to be a fun one to chase, he decided, as the pains of yearning threatened to tear open his bowels. He, almost idly, as if this were not his own ‘maiden’ flight but his thirtieth, turned one wing to drift to her. She had turned closer to where he was flying, and needed no extra speed to catch up to her. Staying a comfortable distance behind the queen was, in this case, favorable. The others, having probably been momentarily confused, would have lost precious seconds in righting themselves as to what direction she had gone. He had seen it all, and he was now higher in the ranks of the other fire-lizards. His eyes, still swirling in the hues of unmistakable amour, were still calculating, though not at all filled with malice or anger or something that one would see in a villain’s eyes. Instead, his were warm and welcoming, as, he thought, were most of the other male’s eyes.
Zenniel felt the small tug of longing settle into her heart and wondered briefly how she had impressed herself to a Bronze. This feeling, this emotion, was not even half of what she would feel if she had a dragon. Instead, this emotion just brought up certain giddiness in her that she had not known that she could posses. She watched, idly, as the fire-lizards congregated in a group behind the darting violet queen. Since the glare of the sun off the water was so strong she could only make out the bronze and the brown fire-lizards. The Violet was lost in glare, though Zenniel imagined that she was a beauty for Mura to rise to try to catch her like that.
Willow wasn’t caught by surprise by Lilac’s first turn- she had to stop circling eventually and he suspected that now that she had what, five, six, chasers she would get going. The Tan was a bit late, but a good addition to the suitors in Willow’s opinion, there weren’t many of those about. Willow quickly twisted after the Violet queen, letting himself lean into it so for a moment he flew nearly sideways before straightening out behind her.
The second turn Lilac took, this one so steeply upwards, did catch the Bronze by surprise and he had practically flown past the spot where she turned before realizing she was suddenly above the group. Willow gurgled softly; this Violet was a wily one. He twisted upwards, flapping his little wings for extra speed. Up, up… soon he was back to about his original position, behind the queen and also a careful distance back. He would pay better attention now; Lilac was a lovely little Violet but he wasn’t going to let himself be outsmarted by one.~~~~~~~~~ Lilac paid little attention to the Tan as he joined the Flight. Maybe he thought it was a good idea to come as she really started it, that way he didn’t have to wait time circling and waiting for more suitors. But maybe he had just been slow getting here, and that Lilac didn’t like. It was easy enough to just between. Maybe he could prove himself despite that though; Lilac at least liked the thoughts he was feeding her of her beauty.
Of course she was very beautiful. Much more so than all these males at least. Lilac sniffed lightly and took another swerve, this time a little down and mostly to the right. Her turn brought her almost beside all the males, or at least those who hadn’t totally reacted yet, but a little below them. Lilac crooned playfully and shot forwards in quite the opposite direction everyone else was currently headed.
Using the momentum from her quick decline before it fled with the air rushing past her wings, Lilac performed a quick loop, daring the males to do the same. Browns would waste their energy performing, perhaps the Tan too. She didn’t know how much energy they had to use up… less than a Bronze probably, and surely less than her! Well. As long as they kept following, all would have a little chance.
OH-HO She was a devious one! As Whim had begun to follow her on another, more downward turn, she first turned back to flirt with the lagging males. That he could maybe understand though it urked him. He wanted her to choose him!
Then, instead of coming back....she shot in a completely different direction!! Still, Whim crooned to her and sped to follow the glowing and beautiful flower. He didn't even hesitate to do the loop, making it a little wider than hers. He still knew that it cost energy that most did not have in this Flight.
As he gained on her again, his wings beating the wind quickly. He crooned and trilled to her of her great intelligence and beauty. Oh how he wished she would choose him..this he did not tell her. He slowed his wing-beats and tried to save up as much energy as he could.
Zuris finished his meal and decided to go back to the Candidate Barracks. Whim was sending him, perhaps too much of the Flight without knowing it. Oh well, a little lay down on the cot would more than likely make the room stop spinning.
Mura followed, his wings spread but puffed out so that he could catch the maximum air he could. Not just because of catching the air, but because he didn’t know her next move, Mura halted. He had learned the way she moved when she wanted to go left to right, or right to left, but not up or down. Just as he had predicted, though, she swerved as yet again her wing-twitch gave her away. Then, with a lot of momentum, Mura realized, she went the other way. He quickly banked his wings, and back wheeled, so that he was still moving but now, as he turned, he had not lost any momentum.
Mura discovered, to his immense relief that the little female was now going down. Down meant that he could study her movements. He knew now that she lowered her body a little bit before the dive, and he would use that to his advantage. Now, he, too, mimicked her and sent himself into a dive. She looped, and he noted that the loop was a quick one, as to not slow down her own momentum. He increased his decent, making the angle more of an 80 degree than 70, like it had been. This was because he wanted to stay in momentum and not loose too much stamina while doing his trick.
He suddenly flared his wings, and then pulled them in toward his body as, at the same time, he angled his head upward and tail downward. He flipped once, twice, and righted himself. He set his calculating eyes upon Lilac’s brilliant violet form again. He must not lose her from his sight. He winged upward again, angling his body also, so that there would be minimal resistance. He looked an expert in the craft of flying, though in reality he was just as unused to Flights as the one he was chasing.
And he would catch her…
Kifer flew after that Violet like the world depended on him saving it. He whipped to the side, almost as agile as a green but not quite there because of more balk. He did a quick loop, following this wonderful Violet exactly. He kept feeding her thoughts of her gorgeousness and her loveliness, telling her just how great she was. He believed that she was the greatest flit ever and he showed her in the thoughts that he kept sending her, holding onto the hope that she would choose him.
Willow started again as Lilac took another quick twist, diving under the males and shooting off in the other direction. He looped through the curve, flying briefly upside-down before flipping back up and shooting after her. The loop he took easily, making his just a touch larger than Lilac's had been. The Violet would surely fall for all his tricks, he would be the one to catch her.
The Browns would be no competition, Willow was sure of that. What queen would choose a Brown when she had Bronzes to choose from? The Tan could be... there weren't many of those and so he wasn't quite sure what Lilac would think of him. Both were new colors anyways... hopefully that didn't give Kifer an extra chance. The little Violet had to choose him!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lilac snorted softly as all her followers performed. Most of them seemed to be trying to best her trick; wasn't she the star of the show? What were they thinking? The vain males... she would show them. No Bronze, Tan, or Brown could best a Violet, not ever.
Lilac began to twist, zig-zagging from left to right while climbing higher with easy agility. After a few long moments of doing this she folded a wing and rolled, then folded her other one and full-out dove. Gravity pulled her downwards with increasing speed before finally the Violet snapped her wings open and twisted, arcing back upwards. Over the following males she went and behind them, again taking the Flight in a new direction.
But her little show wasn't over yet. Lilac didn't care if she was wasting energy, she would prove her talents to the males... and they would have to prove hers, but they couldn't imagine themselves better than her! This was her Flight, they were only followers. Lilac twisted, gliding backwards and upside-down for a moment, then arced and dove again. Down, down, then she spread her wings and let her momentum carry her back up.
Would the males just follow her? Or could they think of their own tricks? Of course Lilac's would be better... but they could try. Copying her own idea was no sort of creativity... she wanted a smart mate. Well. The Violet began to circle again, waiting.
Kora sighed softly. She could feel the strain of Lilac's wings in her back, only slight compared to the sensations she had felt when Narayth flew, but there. The Violet was trying to hard to prove herself- something Kora was rather surprised by. Lilac had never felt the need to prove herself better than others, she always just expected it.
Ah, well, with her pulling tricks like this the Flight would probably end sooner....

Kifer noticed then General direction that Lilac was taking the flight in and flew that way doing a few corkscrews while he was at it. He did a few up and down dips, engoying the air rushing through his wings, but he always stayed so that he wouldn't get in front of the violet. He didn't want her unhappy with him. He had cut space though while doing tricks, knowing that it would be faster if he cut than if he didn't. He did some more twists and flips, all the while he crooned to the violet and he was still sending mental pictures about how much better she was then the rest of them. He didn't think she needed to prove herself, they needed to prove themselves to the beautiful and great violet flit. As if to show this, Kifer di a couple more corkscrews while flying.

If fire-lizard eyes could widen in surprise, Whims would have. He watched the Violet do her amazing tricks. There was no way that he could do all that and hope to stay in this Flight afterwards. Of course...he could do a simpler trick, one that he loved to do for His, and anyone that His cared for. He knew that that trick did not take as much energy...so that was what he set his mind to.
He zig-zagged slightly, making them larger than Lilac's...and as he got to her drop off point he gave her a loud croon. He tucked his wings to his sides and plummeted, right to the ground. Well...into the water. He burst out making large loops, stopping his loops only when he got back to Lilac.
He wasn't as exhausted as he could be, but he was beginning to fade...he just hoped that this Flight ended soon. He wanted to see it to the end, regardless. He gave Lilac another croon and then dropped back to a more leisurely pace.

((...Sparrow is getting tired of waiting... flitters who haven't posted yet I'm supposing just dropped out. Sorry Zen! But I really don't want to leave this here forever with little happening.)) Willow was quite astonished by Lilac's performance. She didn't seem to happy about something though, which worried the Bronze. Was it his fault? Or maybe she was just irritated about getting tired... another one of the males could have caused it too, but Willow hadn't noticed them doing anything that he suspected the Violet wouldn't like. He chose the second choice, and did a quick roll before following her in the dive.
Willow let himself dive for longer than Lilac did though, then twisted suddenly so he was flying below her but in the same direction. Maybe she could see his trick better that way. Willow began to zig-zag, corkscrewing as he did so. It was a tiring trick and took good control, and Willow had enough energy left.
Next he began to climb again, coming up just in front of the Violet in her circle. He crooned softly, then twisted upside-down and let himself glide behind her. From their, he took up a spot a little to the side and a little, no more than a tail's length, behind.~~~~~~~~~~ Well, the males had done better that time. Lilac considered their tricks. The little Brown had used water to his advantage, the Bronze had cut her off but otherwise did a good job, and the Tan's tricks seemed rather simple but he had put them together nicely. Her own performance had quite tired the little Violet, and she decided she was done.
The only problem was who she wanted to fly her. Lilac was pretty sure, but felt a little bad leaving the other males out. Oh well... it was their own fault they hadn't impressed her enough. There were other fire-lizards anyways... they could chase other times. Lilac decided she would keep going until she felt it was quite unlikely she could do more though, and so continued flying with the occasional dip or sudden turn. The end to her Flight still shouldn't be easy for her followers.
The Weyr Bowl was plenty big; as they had been flying over the lake before, Lilac decided she would end it elsewhere and headed over the herdbeast pens. But... oh, they smelled bad. Dung and smelly animals... Lilac was glad she was cleaner than them. Hers made sure of that and so did Lilac. Lilac twisted again so she was just flying over grass. Grass was nice anyways.
Having guided her little fair off their original path, Lilac figured now she would show her decision. She had quite liked all her suitors, even if some had seemed a bit show off-ish. But one hadn't... he had simply given her thoughts of how lovely she was and kept his performances sweet and simple. He would probably have plenty of energy left for her too.
Lilac circled suddenly back, flying straight towards her chosen mate. She crooned gently to him and as she came closer ran her muzzle and cheek against his and along his neck. Doing a little aerial twist of her own, she twisted over him and entwined her neck around the male's, flooding him with her own thoughts of how lovely he was. Her tail finally twisted around his, he was her special winner. Kifer this time, the pretty little Tan.Kora gave a soft sigh of relief as Lilac finally made her decision. One of the new colors... for some reason it didn't surprise her that much. Nayarath rumbled softly, liking her little friend's choice. She was a Gold and chose a Bronze for a mate, Lilac was Violet and one rank lower, and chose a Tan, also one rank lower than Bronze. The flitt was probably trying to act like her.

Kifer had faithfully followed the little Violet, telling her how pretty she was when suddenly she was coming straight at him. It was almost to good to be true. Then she crooned to him and ran her muzzle along his neck and knew that she had chosen him. He entwined his neck with hers, spreading his wings and gliding so as to give a long flight, straight and parallel to the earth, caught on a thermal that would keep them going for a while. He was surprised with the thoughts she sent him of how lovely he was, so it must be a mutual love.
Jokyl noticed only that his flit had won the flight, but not much more.
