Well the Hatching had been.... certainly quite a surprise actually! L'han didn't now that Wuith had it in him to sire never before seen colors in his offspring, let alone 3 different types covering half the clutch! Still, they were all fine bred beasts and that wasn't his bias of his dragon. No one could deny that any of the 14 hatchlings would one day be valuable additions to the Weyr, but right now all anyone was really interesting was celebrating the growth of the Weyr.
Wuith had returned to his place on the Weyrleader's ledge, feeling that he had finally earned some right to be there after the last few months being stand-ins. L'han felt it too, but he still felt a little like a frawd. Waiting for most of the weyr to find themselves in the Lower Caverns before officially starting the feast.
"It's been quite a day! Kelth and Wuith have given us a few little surprises, but valuale none the less. With each new hatchling our Weyr grows, and one day I hope that we'll have the dragon power to take back the North from Thread. Tonight we celebrate, The future is looking much brighter!" The tanrider lifted is cup, as if toasting the Weyr and its new additions.

After having fed, bathed and oiled their new dragonets. Kyrissa and R'kah hurried to get sorted for the hatching feast.
Kyrissa hastily brushed her hair and braided it, tying it with a sky blue felt ribbon, to match the lighter blue of Opheliath. She wondered about changing her clothes, not wanting to turn up in the white robe. She dug around in the few clothes she had brought, and been given since arriving, found a pale, althought not sky, blue tunic. She pulled the robe off and put on the tunic, then dug out a pair of supple tan leather trousers and got into them. She glanced at the part dark, part light form of the sleeping Opheliath with a soft smile before tearing herself away. Shards, she might end up being late yet, so much for sentimentality.
R'kah on the other hand, had immediately pulled off the robe and tossed it aside as soon as Claudiuth had fallen asleep. He ran his fingers through his hair, attempting to get it tidy, and not surprisingly failing. By Faranth, now was not the time to mess about, he had to get to the feast. He rooted around in his chest briefly before snatching up a black tunic, it was a close as he could get. He had already pulled on a pair of black trousers before the hatching. He pulled on the tunic as he walked, hoping to save a bit of time, yet ending up on the ground in a heap. Well, so much for that idea, he sat up and finally pulled on the tunic before getting up. He brushed himself off then headed towards the dining cavern at a brisk walk.
They got to the dining cavern just a couple of minutes apart, R'kah turning up first with Kyrissa being the one to trail behind. They quickly went to their seats, both managing to catch L'han's speech. "Here here." R'kah agreed vehemently, raising his own glas before taking a sip of the sweet fruit juice. Kyrissa simply whooped in reply, feeling excited yet tired at the same time. She wondered if she would feel like that everyday as she hide a yawn behind her hand.

Even if Y'xem hadn't been at Kora's side for some time, it still felt odd to attend something like a Hatching Feast without a partner. L'han probably had to at least say he was with Shador, since it was his Tan who sired the clutch they were celebrating, and Kora really had no idea who else she could really show up with without getting people talking. Not that she minded not having to bother with someone else... it just seemed strange.
If it were in the Weyr Bowl, I could follow you about. Nayarath spoke jokingly; she was small for a Gold, but still huge compared to most other dragons at the Weyr. Even in an area the size of the Bowl, maneuvering through things would be too much trouble.
You're sounding cheerier. Kora didn't pay as much attention to L'han's toast as she probably should have; she had found a seat but this wasn't her dragon's hatching, and it put the Gold into a sour mood, and that struck her as more important. Unhappy senior queens were never a good thing for a Weyr. Despite, Kora raised her cup with her own quiet agreement to the Tanrider's speech, at least catching the very end of it.
Perhaps the future was looking brighter, but things weren't at their best right now. More new dragon colors were a good thing, but still no one knew the explanation behind them. And the injured Brownrider had shown up not long ago... Kora found herself doubting even Liona would attend, as far as she knew, the rogue Greenrider hadn't left S'aer's side. Neither newcomers had much need to go to a Hatching Feast anyways.
Or much business, Nayarath snorted, switching back to her unhappy mood.
They're dragonriders too. Kora shook her head. Coming with no one apparently did even more than usual to keep her out of conversations with the rest of the Weyr.
((And the rest of Sparrow's gang is here too, I just don't feel like posting them unless their friends show up or something. xP))

R'mer thought that it felt like five minutes since HIS hatching feast. Now, he was a bluerider, with a full grown lump of a dragon.
A lump was what Tinth was being right now. His rider might enjoy the party, but the blue had flown back up to his ledge, informing him acidly that he wanted to be alone unless, maybe, a pretty green or barred wanted to join him.
R'mer rolled his eyes as he walked into the room, glancing around. More dragon colors? That didn't bother him, one way or another. What did the color of the hide matter as long as the dragons were healthy and could fly Thread?
--
B'can wondered. If one tan had sired so many mutations and his Apolloth flew a queen? Would the same thing happen? Or maybe these new colors were what was supposed to happen when you crossed tan and violet dragons?
Not firelizards, as they hadn't shown up there yet. Maybe it was just Wuith?
When I sire a clutch, *I* will manage a queen.
I don't know if tans can sire golds, but a violet would be gorgeous.
*I* can sire a gold
Arrogant dragon, B'can thought wryly as he searched for some food, piling his plate as high as possible.
--
All those new colors, and her Tyrth was still unique. Gwen, the white rider, took pride in that as she strode into the area. Spunky made an elegant ornament on her shoulder, her violet markings matching the violet thread in the girl's gown perfectly...a pure coincidence, as the gown was older than the firelizard.
She strode towards the food tables as if she rode gold, not white, as if the Weyr was hers. Why not? The only reason not to would be to give the new weyrlings pride of place, and indeed, she did defer to them a little. This was their night as it had once been hers.
--
Something furry poked out of T'mar's shirt. He laughed and fed the Kagen a bit of bread. She didn't do well with too much human food, but a bit wouldn't hurt her.
Had he not been bonded to the best green on Pern, he might have been jealous of these weyrlings. The charcoal dragons were utterly gorgeous...but, of course, they were not greens, and greens, in his mind...ruled.
(( Muse starting to die.... ))

"No, Hearth, you have to stay here" N'lel told his dragon for the millionth time. He repressed a sigh of frustration. What did Hearth not understand about this? This was a hatching feast, and Hearth was to stay here and go to sleep while N'lel went.
If they are having a feast because of me, I should be invited Hearth said, but sat himself down. N'lel realized Hearth would stay here, even if he didn't want to.
"Thanks" he said to his dragon, then rushed to the hatching feast. There already plenty of riders and weyrlings there. Looking around, N'lel was immediately happy he Impressed. He remembered the last time, when he hadn't gone to the hatching feast. He hadn't had a dragon, he had still been a candidate. But this time, he was there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Good night, Valentinth" Lidi told her dragon.
Valentinth responded with a murmured Good night, LidiMine before falling asleep. Lidi stood there and watched her dragon, then slipped down to the hatching feast. She was overjoyed at the prospect of going to this feast.
When she got there, she saw what she expected, riders and weyrlings. Still, she felt as though she finally belonged in the Weyr. True, her dragon wasn't the one she would have chosen for herself, but she loved Valentinth all the same. Didn't they all? Lidi looked around, then paused, unsure if she really wanted to be here anymore. It was just so noisy.
As soon as L'han saw the opportunity he slipped off to the side, keeping an eye out for Shador. He hadn't seen her yet, probably feeding her dragon, and he couldn't be more thankful! While Kelth was on the hatching sands the tanrider had been given some peace from the lustful eyes of the violetrider that had been stalking him since the mating flight.
His only hope was maybe finding something more important to preocupy himself. Anything at all that might make Shador leave him alone, or try to push one of her other 'favorites' on her in his place. But weaving through the crowd he managed to sight Kora and detoured to her.
"Is our dear senior queen in better moods now her hatching grounds have been returned to her?" L'han greeted her, eyes shifting about nervously before soflty adding "Tell me if you see Shador so i can hide."
Kora smiled slightly, but shook her head. "She can't quite decide. Now she's complaining about all the hullaballoo these new hatchlings are kicking up." This still wasn't much like the White hatchling though; no one was worrying over the new hatchlings, they were just saying 'wow'. Nayarath shouldn't be worrying.
"Sure." Kora laughed. "But I doubt you have too much to worry about from her; if you're hiding from her now, you're obviously not her type." There were plenty of other men about that Shador could bother with.
Lilac popped abruptly into the party, huffing noisily about being left behind before fluttering over to Kora's shoulder. Soot wasn't far behind, and he was a funny picture with Squeak grasped in his claws. Apparently someone had thought the Kagen had to come too... and it probably hadn't been the Tan. Kora raised her eyebrows at Lilac, who set to chattering cheerfully to Squeak as Soot set him on the floor. The Kagen made his way onto Kora's foot, perhaps hopeful that she wasn't going to move anytime soon, and Soot landed in his usual place on Kora's unnoccupied shoulder.
"Well..." It wasn't easy to escape these three.
L'han was right; Shador had been at the feeding grounds with Kelth while the Violet fed. Kelth had been confined to the sands for the past few sevendays, and she was starving. Shador grinned as the Violet finished off a final herdbeast and then went to find a perch on the Heights. Now it's time for me to go get some food!
She hurried up to her weyr to change, putting on a fairly modest, for her, lavender colored dress. Smokey, Bandit, and Rex all fought for spots on her shoulders. She shrugged the flitts off, telling them to go perch with Kelth, but allowed the young Kagen to lounge on his shoulder, his furry tail tickling her neck.
As she strode into the hall, Shador's stomach rumbled her, reminding her how hungry she was. She went straight for the food, forgetting L'han for the moment. The situation, a sort of love triangle, irked her, but she was trying not to be possessive. She certainly didn't mind having L'han in her bed when she could, though.
She smiled at the weyrling in front of her, a Tanrider she recognized from Kelth's first clutch. She remembered the dragon's name, Apolloth, but not the rider's. "Some clutch, wasn't it?" She asked conversationally. "I can't wait to see how the new colors turn out."
Kelth snorted as the blue and brown flitts alighted between her neck ridges. She didn't mind them, but she wanted more than fire lizards for company. Wuith, just because our riders don't have to be together anymore doesn't mean you can't sit with me, she called out to the Tan, pouting when she saw him on the Weyrleader's ledge. If Wuith refused, she just might have to take up Ekirith's company again.
"Oh I only hope that's the case, but as long as Kelth continues to flirt with Wuith I may never be free." Inside L'han was very thankful Queen's, even violets, rose only once or twice a turn. It was a rare case for dragon to be more picky about their mate then the rider, for the senor violetrider had made it clear just anyone would do and the tanrider hated the feeling of being just another knotch on her belt.
When Soot appeared arkwardly holding Squeak in his talons L'han just laughed. "Well just when i was starting to think I've seen everything after today, that was certainly something new!" Though he doubted he would see that much, since the little gravel would soon be too big for either tan or Violet firelizard to carry around.
"Can I offer you something to drink Weyrwoman? Klah, wine, fruit juice?" L'han offered, as he planned on grabbing a cup for himself. It was only polite to ask.
Wuith considered Kelth's offer, he knew she was right and L'han never once forbid him from spending time with his mate. And who else would he curl up with, Narayath? Certainly not despite him holding the weyrleader ledge, the position had been thrust upon his rider untill the next one was chosen. You were eating, but now you are full there is no reason not to sit up here A quick glide brought him down to the violet, giving her a gentle lick on the cheek.
"It's going to be interesting," B'can responded.
The young tanrider wondered if he would have to remind Shador he was still off limits. Of course, Apolloth might well fly Kelth. "I particularly like the black and red ones."
He was not just complimenting the dragonets for the sake of it, the charcoals *were* attractive, in their own way. "Not as attractive as tans, of course."
Apolloth was, of course, listening. And he was old enough to understand the notion of flying Kelth. You don't want me to fly Kelth?
That's not it. I'd love for you to sire a clutch like this one...maybe with handsome black and red dragons...but Shador has the temperament of a green
You mean...rises often and doesn't care who flies her?
You got it. I'd rather you flew Voluspath, but she may not let a tan mate her.
Voluspath is a snob.
That was such a perfect comment B'can had to fight back a laugh. "Sorry. Apolloth is making...comments. Not about you."
Which was true...he, B'can, had been the one making comments about Shador. Then again, she might not even be insulted. Many bed hoppers saw nothing at all wrong with what they did. B'can was simply not of that temperament, although...
The price of tan or bronze might well be that he would have to be with somebody he did not love and not with the woman he did. Then again, that happened to most people, and at least in the Weyr, a pairing need not be for life. He was better off than the holder's daughter married to the neighboring holder's son when her heart yearned for a journeyman healer...the ballad staple, but in reality, similar happened all the time.
Kora frowned. "It's your dragon's choice to keep it up." If he didn't react to it, Kelth was more than likely to give up on him. That was sort of what had ended things with Y'xem and Alduth; the dragons simply weren't interested. Kora gave no support to anyone who had much to do with Shador; she liked the woman and Nayarath got along well enough with Kelth, but it was hard to not look down on what she did and the men who let it happen. The Weyrwoman was also slightly jealous too; the difference between Shador's ability to have pretty-much anyone she wanted and Kora's lack of skill at keeping even the Weyrleader at her side was catastrophic.
Kora laughed and leaned over to scoop Squeak into her arms. Soot and Lilac fluttered above her an extra moment so that they could sit on her shoulders again when Theirs stood up. "It won't be happening before long." It was a pity Kagen couldn't between, the skill was a convenient one.
"I could use some klah," Kora decided, smiling slightly. Nayarath had nothing to do with Kelth's clutch, but Kora would be the one with work to do because of it. And there was going to be cleaning up to do after the party, inventories that would have abruptly dropped... Hatchings were a mess.
I don't mind them. Nayarath rumbled. She simply would have rathered it was her clutch rather than Kelth's.
"Kora, It's wrong to tell someone who they can and can't love. Wuith I think for the most part is just forfilling Kelth's desires, do you think a male could refuse the advances of a queen?" The answer was obvious; no, they couldn't. L'han's expression of defeat showed he had no control over this situation, but anyone would know that. No one had that much control over their dragons as to force ever one of their actions or feelings.
This train of thought continued even after he returned with a mug of klah for the Weyrwoman, a glass of mulled wine for himself. For a rare occasion the tanrider didn't feel like drinking, but that might just be him wanting to set the example for the Weyr. But on the contrairy, they were welcome to drink to thier hearts content in celebration. "Wuith... do you think these new hatchlings might be just him?" L'han wanted to know her thoughts and his voice sounded a tad worried. There was nothing wrong with his Tan, why would there? But such an occurence... why now? And in his hatchlings?
Kora frowned. "I didn't say anything about that." Nayarath wouldn't mind L'han's rebuke, she loved finding more points against the Tanrider and his dragon, but Kora didn't like it. A Hatching sired by his dragon wasn't any reason to be edgy.
Despite, Kora smiled when L'han handed her a mug of klah. "Thank you," she cupped her hands around the warm mug. It wasn't particularly chilly in the lower caverns, nor had it been today, but she never minded something like that. Maybe it was just a rub-off from Nayarath, who was always looking for the warmest things to lie against or in.
"I think maybe it just has something to do with two... two of the new colors breeding." Mutations had been the first word to come to mind, but it didn't feel quite right. "It hasn't happened before... well, except with Lilac and that Tan that caught her in her first Flight. Fire-lizards are different though." Sort of, at any rate. Would these new dragon colors show up in fire-lizards? The Barreds hadn't come until after Barred dragons did, but that theory didn't match up with what Kora had just said to L'han. They sure would be pretty though.
Lilac snorted, she was perfectly happy with the flitters she had been hatching so far. And that Tan that caught her hadn't been an interesting mate at all, most definitely not worthy of siring new colors. Soot chattered to the Violet, perhaps wondering if he would be, and she snapped angrily at him. Most definitely not. Squeak snuffled in a laughing manner and clung to Kora's arm, it was harder to keep cupped in the crook of her elbow when she wasn't helping him do so.
