Y'xem sat at the make-shift head table. It wasn't that much of a head table since this was a Gather, but still...more Ranked people sat here than lower Ranked people. He was waiting on Kora, someone needed to get the feast underway..informally at least.
He hated these kind of duties, but then again...he didn't mind being Weyrleader. Alduth rumbled from the heights.
People would get anxious if they had to wait too long, though since it was a Gather...most would just start nibbling. He grinned. He would.
Y'xem began to pace. Aldin popped out of between and landed on his shoulder. He absently stroked the Bronze as he waited.

He didn't really want to be here. He had just woken up! This gather was madness he just didn't approve of. However, Tilla was going to murder the poor wher candidate if he hadn't gone to the feast, since he refused to go to the dance. Brown, of course, was the colour of choice for his tunic. Accompanied by brown pants and, you guessed it, brown boots. He decided not to wear his blacksmith's apron; not quite formal.
Sighing deeply, he trudged over to a table and waited for others to begin eating before he did. He plunked down in his chair, looking awfully tall even when sitting. His brown eyes scanned the room. How lively everyone was! He just hoped no one would speak to him so he could leave as soon as possible. Ruffling his messy brown hair, he sighed again. Poor, poor Gorrian.

Gwenduinne had mostly wallflowered at the dance. She knew few people well enough to ask them to dance, even after the time she had been at the Weyr.
The feast, though, she could appreciate. Her gown was a violet that happened to perfectly match the markings on her barred firelizard. If she Impressed, she might have to get a new one. She couldn't clash with her dragon. Finding a seat, the candidate settled down. She glanced at the boy who wore brown, brown and brown.
Well, at least if his entire wardrobe was one color...

Kora walked up to Y'xem with a slight smile. "You're looking impatient." Nayarath had recently decided that being fashionably late would be her new thing, apparently, and the dragon was doing her best to make Kora be so too. Lilac and Soot decided to show up for the feast and the Violet perched on Kora's shoulder while the Tan flew ahead, looking hopefully at the food. He was very hungry.
"Should we get the feast underway?" Kora looked uncertainly out over the people already at tables. It seemed to her this should be the Lord Holder's job, not the Weyrleaders'. Where was he anyways? Weren't the Goldrider's supposed to be formally welcomed to a Hold? Kora didn't really like to be, but it seemed like something that usually happened.

Y'xem smiled and greeted Kora with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Hello there Kora dear." He decided not to say anything about her lateness. He had been late to a few things and perhaps she was just getting even. "I'm just ready to get some food." He laughed.
He had been looking around for the Lord Holder, but hadn't seen him anywhere. "Can't hurt for us to say something." He wondered if the Lord had fallen ill suddenly. Oh well.
He smiled down at Kora before moving away and raising his voice so the people around could hear. "Ahem. Hello everyone! I know, I know. I'm not the Lord Holder, but it seems that he is absent at the moment and quite a few of us are starving! So...I think it will be just fine for me to say that the Feast is underway!!!" He smiled broadly and returned to Kora's side.
"There."

"Well, I hope he turns up." Kora remained standing as Y'xem left to announce the official beginning of the feast and sat as he returned. "Very good," she laughed. "Let's eat." She grabbed a plate and some food, a lot of it picked by Lilac or Soot rather than the Weyrwoman. The flitters settled happily on either side of Kora's plate and started eating, picking out meatier treats while she chose a roll.
You should make them get their own food like I do, Nayarath commented absently. The Gold enjoyed insisting that Kora spoiled her flitts, and she probably did, but didn't worry about it much.
I would feed you if you were small enough to fit on my shoulder too, love, Kora replied with a muffled laugh. The Gold snorted, quite happy that she was the size she was.

As Y'xem was in the middle of his speech, Teval quietly slipped into his seat, smiling amicably as if he wasn't late at all. He had been flirting with an attractive Harper lass who didn't realize he was the Lord, and he had lost track of time. It wasn't the first time, that was for sure. Ace flew over and perched on his shoulder, mentally berating him for disappearing.
"Well said, Weyrleader," he said, grinning and clapping Y'xem on the shoulder before starting to fill a plate of food. He picked out a few pieces to hand to Ace, who gladly nibbled on the treats. "How are things at the Weyr?" He asked conversationally, addressing both bronze and gold rider. "I heard Nayarath rose recently, so that means a clutch, right?"

The clap on the shoulder startled Y'xem for a moment, until he noticed the Lord Holder. The man had been late and the sat quietly while Y'xem had spoken. Well, that's fine enough the Weyrleader supposed.
"Ah Teval! Snuck in did you?" The rider joked. "Everything is running smoothly as far as I can tell. A few injuries from Flights and Thread, but nothing too serious." He grinned over at Kora, who was being assaulted by flitters wanting to be fed.
"How're things at the Hold? Not bad at all I hope." Y'xem conversed as he started filling his plate with slices of roasted wherry and nearly anything that he could reach. He was hungry, but he also had little Aldin to think of on his shoulder.
