Kora was agitated. Nayarath had nothing to do with it- the Gold’s hide was bright, but it was nothing more than the sheen of health. People kept talking about her Rising, but she wasn’t. Maybe that was something to worry about a little, but it wasn’t what was on the Weyrwoman’s mind.
Kora felt she had always been very accepting of new changes in the dragons. The mutations, she had never had anything against them. Nayarath might seem like she did sometimes, but the Gold was rarely doing more than teasing. The new colors, and the riders of the new colors, simply seemed to be particularly touchy. Her dragon had hatched alongside the first Violet and Tan. Nayarath had been the first to clutch Barreds. Kora had predicted Teals and Charcoals in Jorindath’s last clutch, despite all D’mas’ doubts, been right, and was overjoyed to see more of them. That there hadn’t been any Skies was disappointing. She ha had no problem with changes in the dragons, welcomed them. But…
The issue of Angel and Razuth was utterly different. Kora didn’t know what to think, except that she didn’t like it. Nayarath seemed fascinated with the Bronze, which was no help. The thoughts of being forcibly bedded to another woman were on her mind, but had shrunk drastically since the initial Impression. She didn’t want that, but that wasn’t the big issue. What she didn’t like was simply that it felt wrong. Bronzes didn’t Impress to girls.
Even worse, now people were saying that maybe a queen would Impress to a boy. Pern would be turned upside down. A Weyrwoman could be a Bronzerider, a Weyrleader ride a Gold and be unable to even feed his dragon firestone.
That is worst case scenario thinking. Nayarath tilted her head towards Kora and opened one eye. Quit all that pacing, it’s as irritating as those rats always trying to nest under my couch.
“They’re kagen.” Kora put a hand to her forehead, but stopped her restless walking. She needed to talk to someone. D’mas seemed like… who she should consult. What did he think? She had hardly spoken to him the last few days, she was too flustered to call a meeting with the Weyrleader. And D’mas was always so busy, always doing things. He would have business and opinions on Angel and Razuth, but Kora doubted he would have what she currently wanted.
I can have Wuith call in his.
No, I… The last official meeting Kora had with L’han had ended in a fight over some silly slip-up Nayarath had made. Kora herself still didn’t quite know what had been the problem. She didn’t want to talk to him.
You need to go worry to someone, as far as I can tell. And I’m tired of being that person. It hadn’t been long since the hatching, but Nayarath was never a patient dragon.
L’han knew her better than a lot of people. Slightly. That was his only advantage. Kora squeezed her arms. She had kept so pointedly separate from others, and now it was coming back to bite her. She had been making an effort to grow closer to the Weyr in general lately, but Nayarath and her own natural shyness were big obstacles.
Humph. I'm not an obstacle, and I am calling someone.
((...sorry, that's a really long opening post. P: Anyways, this is open to one rider (anyone but D'mas, I guess?)... whoever wants to say Nayarath called them in to listen to Kora have a heart attack or whatever. I'm feeling a need to play her bothering about this. *brick'd*))
