Lilac’s hide had been bright lately, although her attitude was just the opposite. Her treatment of Soot was slightly better than usual, but Squeak’s luck had turned for the worse. It wasn’t any problem for Kora to coddle the kagen a little more than usual, but her mind was elsewhere. Lilac and Nayarath usually flew within weeks of each other. Maybe the habits of a fire-lizard shouldn’t be compared with those of a dragon, but the Weyrwoman found herself obsessively checking Nayarath despite.
At the moment though, it was Lilac that was ready to Rise. After sleeping most of the morning, the Violet, curled between Nayarath’s head knobs, suddenly popped her head up, eyes already swirling with a pale purple. Nayarath was asleep and hardly noticed as the fire-lizard launched from her head.
Lilac trumpeted, calling for males to chase her. Soot, of course, was first in line but Lilac had yet to run a Flight where she gave the little Tan the time of day. She was longing for males she didn’t already spend all her time with, ones that were handsome and powerful and far less irritating. She trumpeted again, circling in front of the lake. It was time to start.
((…and I’m leaving in a few hours to go camping, so I guess y’all have plenty of time to post. xP See you Friday.))

Gwenduinne put the finishing touches on polishing Tyrth's white hide. The white dragon was one of the most vain creatures in the Weyr.
Then she abruptly saw an image of a violet. "Oh no you don't," she told Tyrth. Despite the fact that he would not actually know what to do with a female if he caught one, the white dragon insisted on chasing.
It's him, Tyrth supplied, cheerfully, sending a picture of Koll into her mind.
"Oh...well...good look to him, I guess. Let's go back to our weyr."
Koll was, indeed, darting across the lake to where the violet was calling for the attention of the weyr's males. The solid, stocky brown sent her a cheerful chirple that faded into a croon. She was not actually launching yet, which gave him time to get into position.
She was a queen, and he was going to have to do his very best to win her over, up against the tans and bronzes as he was.
--
Trouble flickered out of between above the lake. There...there she was, the queen who was sending out waves of firelizard-sized lust. Not a gold, no, but she would definitely do.
He bugled a challenge to the brown that was already there...a mere brown thought he could outfly a bronze? Well...sometimes they did, although Trouble would never admit to that. He did a barrel roll, showing off for the queen, even as she circled.
She was, of course, waiting for more. Two suitors did not a queen flight make.

Snappy wasn’t generally the type to let his bonded know where he was going or what he was doing, and he and F’ynch worked well this way. The blue rider fed him, oiled him and supplied him with fingers to snap at, and this was how they worked. This time however, he decided it would be good to at least alert his human thing, and flickered an image of the violet in his gaze to the blue rider, currently leaning against a powdery blue side. “Snappy, I dunno if-“ He got no further, the brown gave a snorting chirrup at his bonded, telling him on no uncertain terms that he didn’t really care before launching off from his standstill with a quick jump and short fall to catch himself mid-air.
He wasn’t about to lose to another brown either, Snappy simply wasn’t able to think about losing to such a small (he must be smaller than the Great Snappy) creature, and not even a bronze could compete with his brilliance and agility. He after all was the perfect mate for such a lovely, lovely violet because he was… Perfect. That was what Snappy was – well, in his little mind, that was an accurate description of him.
He wasn’t about to show off to the extent of the other brown, though he did throw in a flip and a roll, just to alert the violet to his flittly presence, and alert her that the perfect one had arrived. She needn’t know anymore, after all, once she was aware of him, Snappy was sure that she would choose him as a mate.
F’ynch merely shook his head at the emotions rolling off his flitt, after the power of dragon-lust, flitt-lust was little to compare it by and he wasn’t bothered, but he was amused. “How the Shards did he get so arrogant?” Truth’s only answer was to shrug.

Two Browns, a Bronze... and Soot. Lilac figured that was good enough and shot off over the lake. This was a good turnout, although maybe in the back of her mind there was a bit of disappointment over the fact that Guess hadn't turned up. She had liked him. These would do though; Lilac liked Browns, and Bronzes, of course, were always impressive.
They all seemed to already be trying fun little things, even Soot was showing off, although Lilac paid him less attention. She tucked her head back and chirped sweetly to the males, teasing them.
For the start of her Flight, Lilac skimmed low over the surface of the lake. She flew in a serpentine pattern; water had a lot of potential for tricks, and if she were just flying straight it would be harder to keep track of them. The Violet did them loosely enough to keep safely ahead of the males though.

OOC: I actually forgot Guess flew her last time, but I wanted to use Gwen's brown because he's been neeeglected.
Koll followed the violet's flight, more or less, trying to turn a little bit tighter. There was a bronze and a tan in the group, he knew he had to show off a brown's greater agility. Of course, he had nothing to say to her.
Koll seldom had anything much to say to anyone, and generally preferred Tyrth's company to that of any other, dragon, human or firelizard. Still...she was a very pretty violet, and he was determined to show her that he would sire a good clutch if she chose him to be its father.
Brown wings beat in an even pattern, not rushing or hurrying yet. Violet flights were almost as long as queen flights.
--
Trouble cut part of the serpentine off, just to show that he knew her game. Of course, the bronze did not get too close. It was too soon for that, and a bronze that pushed or rushed a queen was likely to be thrown out of the flight.
He would rather her hide was gold, of course, but violet would definitely do. He could be proud of himself if he caught her, and maybe his human would stop considering him to be just a source of trouble at that point.
Maybe. But then, that was half of the fun. He rolled over onto his back again, flying for several wingbeats like that, not far above the water.
See. He was such a skilled bronze.

Snappy was not one to let things go to his head, but he was certain that the little cheep she'd given? That was for him. Yep, it was for him, she wanted him mainly. A bronze was fine, sure, but they weren't the smartest creatures, browns... Now browns were much finer. Over the water they went, Snappy almost tempted to dive into it to show off, but instead following the weaving path she set. In his mind it was better to follow the direction she was giving, than not to, after all, it was her flight.
His wing beats were steady, having learnt from watching the blue cousin that his bonded had that quick, sharp movements of agility would only tire him, and the important thing was to Impress her. Show her his strength, courage and ... Strength! He would sire a fine - No, magnificent - clutch, and she was sure to see that. He, at least, was not attempting to fly her upside down, like the bronze.
Chirping lightly at the violet, Snappy only glared at the other competitors, that thought they were good enough for her. Lilac, she was a beautiful, wonderful violet that deserved the best. So he thought he should tell her. Females liked compliments, didn't they?

Apparently her suitors were not much for tricks. Trouble had tried a couple things, but he had also cut corners, which Lilac wasn’t particularly pleased with. Time to make this more like a real Flight.
Lilac swerved suddenly, shooting upwards and twisting back as she did so to turn her course around. Speed test time. How fast could they go, and for how long? The Bronze, obviously, would have the advantage there… but there was finesse to be considered too. Lilac did like males with a little flair.
Not that Trouble had been lacking it thus far, whereas the Browns (and Soot, of course) had been. Browns were often dull, there was no doubt of that. But she would see. Lilac still had plenty of energy.

Could Koll read her mind, he would take exception to being dull...despite the fact that it was frankly true. He was a typical brown...quiet, solid, supportive.
Dull.
He took off upwards after her, though, catching the wind and letting it carry him upwards. He knew the bronze would have an advantage, but if he could find the right currents, find the right route, he might be able to get ahead of Trouble. Certainly ahead of the OTHER brown. He knew who the real competition was here, thought.
--
Trouble, for his part, streaked after her, burning energy, twisting in the air to catch a current just right. The fact that it made the light glint from his hide helped.
He was a fine bronze, a good bronze, whatever his human had to stay about it. Claiming this violet would make T'mar proud of him, he was sure of that.
Might even make him let him keep one of the things he had stolen...but the only thing he wanted to steal right now was that glowing violet tail. She was so beautiful...and while he couldn't do good tricks in a straight line flight like this, he COULD adjust the angle of his wings, there, just so.
Handsome bronze.

Snappy would never have described himself as "dull" though it was probably true. He was a brown in many manners of his personality, except temper. Her turn and twist caught the brown by surprise, but he spun as quickly as he could to follow her, he didn't need to worry about the others. There was no competition there. Not in the flashy bronze nor in the dismissive brown, Snappy wasn't about to let either of them bother him.
She was a queen, that meant her flights would be longer than a greens. No time for flashy tricks then, he wouldn't have the energy to spare, perhaps if he caught the right wind and could gain some height then, he would indulge, but not now. Right now, his focus was on simply keeping up.
It didn't rally cross Snappy's mind that the bronze had the advantage here, after all, his size would give him the staying power that Snappy wouldn't have, but the shiny hide didn't mean everything. After all, there was a tan in the flight too.

The Browns were obviously trying harder than the Bronze to keep up with her, which was really no surprise but Lilac liked it anyway. The Bronze was more exciting, but he was nearly making chasing Lilac look easy, and she didn’t want to be an easy catch. She wasn’t an easy catch, in fact. She couldn’t let him think that. Let him try hard with the Browns.
Lilac dove again, though not too much. She needed height, but she also wanted to throw her follower’s off. Folding her wings and dropping fast, straight down, ought to help a little. It would at least use their energy if they followed, or make them look silly if they didn’t.
After a moment she snapped her wings open and started spiraling upwards again, always heading away from her pursuers. The steep climb she was making now would put her where she wanted to be, but Lilac didn’t think she would be going much longer after that. Now she was tired… but how were the males doing?

Koll followed her down, wings furling, but he saw her game slightly early. Dark wings snapped outwards, catching himself slightly above the bottom of the dive.
He hoped it would look canny, not as if he wasn't willing to follow her anywhere she wanted to go. As she climbed upwards, he spiraled a little tighter than her, using that little bit less energy. She was tiring. He could see it. It was very likely that if he was not with her at the top of the climb, he would not be there when she made her choice.
He had to be there. He had to beat out those others...especially the bronze. He would look very good in the eyes of the other females if he beat out a bronze for a queen, even if she was violet, not gold.
--
Trouble followed her down, enjoying the flight. Enjoying the wind that rushed past him. Making it look easy? Perhaps...but it was likely a side effect of the fact that the young bronze was having far too much fun.
Then she stopped and climbed. He squawked, caught out by her move, struggling upwards after her. No! He would not lose this elegant, perfect prize to a pair of *browns*. Beat. Beat. Spiraling with her, trying to get close to her.
His wings burned...she had to choose soon, surely. She had to choose before her suitors were too exhausted to support her. Before they were all too tired to make the good, solid catch that was needed to produce a nice clutch of eggs.

His wings ached, and burned slightly along where the joints met, but he wasn't going to get in. If in no other way like his bonded, he was stubborn. He was going to last to the end of his flight. He liked to assume he'd win, but then, Snappy was fairly sure by this point that not even arrogance would help if he couldn't stop the ache from growing in his shoulders.
She dived. He dived, though inwardly, Snappy worried at his ability to pull out of it as sharply as the other two had done maybe... Rather than snapping his wings out - which would cause pressure on his already tired wings - he spun to break the dive, then spread his wings in the hope that he might catch some brief spurt of air to help him. Perhaps even just to take the weight a little bit.
She spiralled, and so did he. Which ever she chose, Snappy could be content in the knowledge that he had done his best.

Lilac didn't have much more fight in her at all. She glanced behind her. Koll had won on the most recent trick, while Snappy looked like he was struggling to remain airborne. Trouble had been thrown off, but he was looking the most chipper of her suitors. He had looked better throughout the Flight as well.
Decisions, decisions. The winner was up to the male that actually snatched her, but Lilac did have influence over who got that chance. She slowed a bit, letting herself drift closer to the males. Who would take advantage of the moment? Lilac found herself edging towards Koll. She twisted, and there he was against her, she squawked a weak protest but twined with him anyways, instinctively, and that was that.
((Edit: lol, wrong flitter Reine... but I don't mind too much. xD *edits my post*))

And claimed...Koll enwrapped neck and tail with the violet beauty, strong brown wings spreading to carry them both, through the fall that inevitably followed.
Tired as he was, instinct bound him to keep to her as long as possible...instinct and ecstasy. She was a beautiful violet (and some on the Weyr might notice she seemed to have a definite preference for browns)...and for right now, she and her eggs were his, and he would guard her until they hatched.
For now. The next flight would go differently, for such was the way of things with dragons and firelizards. Always the strongest male. Always.
