An early sweep had left Aleyi very tired. Jerglith, of course, didn't have a problem with dropping to sleep as soon as they were back in their weyr, but Aleyi had failed at the same objective. The next best thing she could think of was to head down to the kitchens and fill up on klah.
By now most of the Weyr would be up, but Aleyi was in a zombie state and had dropped down at a table before ever making it to the food. She was not a morning person, not at all.
Pip and Tuck didn't seem to mind, and occupied themselves playing tag around the kitchens and trying to drag as many other flitters in as they could. Brooke had grabbed herself something to eat and sat down in front of Aleyi to eat it.
"You could have grabbed me something too, you know," Aleyi mumbled to the little Gold. Brooke only chittered and then went back to daintily eating her own breakfast.

"You look, if anything, worse than I feel, Aleyi," R'mer informed his fellow bluerider, moving to join her, unasked, on the other side of the table.
"Let me guess. Dawn sweeps?" A wry face. It seemed that he got that duty more often than not. Perhaps, he thought, he should complain about it more often. Perhaps he should be a little bit more of a squeaky wheel.
Aleyi did look exhausted, though. And Brooke looked entirely too cheerful for the situation. She was a pretty little gold, R'mer thought, wryly. He was glad *he* didn't have a gold firelizard, mind. They tended to be arrogant creatures, like all queens.

She looked up. Had he brought klah? "Dawn sweeps indeed." Easily the worst part of being a rider, even if they weren't particularly dangerous. Jerglith didn't seem to mind them so much... but he didn't have any trouble sleeping once the sun was up.
"You feeling down again?" Aleyi put her elbow on the table and her chin in her hand, hoping that would keep her face in R'mer's general direction. She would have rather dropped it to the table, but that would be...
Speaking of rude. Aleyi nudged Brooke with her free hand. "C'mon, get me some food." The Gold turned and stuck her tongue out, as if offering the crumbs clinging to it. Aleyi's nose wrinkled. Not that kind.

R'mer shook his head. "No. Tired. Do they LIKE to give us blueriders dawn sweeps?" Klah. There had to be some klah around here somewhere.
"Your gold is silly," he added. "Almost as silly as my blue. Where...oh yes. He went back to bed. Both of them." He was pretty sure Thunder was curled up asleep on Tinth right now...the dragon was a favored perch of the firelizard. "Let me find us some klah? I think I can smell a fresh pot *somewhere* around here."
Somewhere being the operative word...aha. He spotted it, making as much of a VTOL-line as he could.

"Apparently." Aleyi rolled her eyes. She wished she could come up with some excuse, but 'busy' wouldn't cut it. She could see K'laon, "Oh yeah, you are busy. Doing dawn sweeps!"
Yeah, not a likely idea. Not to mention she had absolutely nothing but the usual rider duties to be busy with.
Brooke chirped to R'mer. Her keeper was tired and not feeling her best... that meant Happy Brooke. Aleyi scratched the Gold's back. "Yep, me and Brooke are buddies now. It's not really any better." Something had suddenly turned the Gold into a more random version of herself. Aleyi was pretty sure she had been watching Jorindath. "Jerglith's in bed too. Lucky."
Klah was an idea she liked. "Sounds like a plan." Aleyi looked Brooke's way again, but the fire-lizard still seemed to have no plans of helping out.

"Dragons have that amazing ability to just close three lids and sleep, no matter what, don't they." He envied that...the only thing Tinth was in his mind right now was something akin to a faint, draconic, snore.
Tinth never laid awake at night worried he wouldn't wake up for sweeps...well, no, that would be because R'mer was supposed to get them both up. He wandered over to the klah pot, filling two mugs before returning to his friend.
"Your firelizard is being useless today, isn't she. Thunder's the same way most of the time. Of course, he's only a blue." Blue dragons were smart enough. Blue firelizards were generally pretty dumb, if more reliable than the flighty greens.

"Yeah, and I'm extremely jealous of it." Aleyi laughed weakly. That was an ability she would give a lot for. Just what kept her up when all she wanted to do was sleep... she had no clue, but it sure didn't ever do her any good.
Aleyi eagerly reached for a mug when R'mer returned with klah, just the mere prospect of the drink energizing her. "Thanks R'mer," she said after taking a sip. This would help.
"Brooke's only good for waking Jerglith," Aleyi admitted with a grin. Jerglith was still nervous around fire-lizards, and Brooke's love of taking advantage of that wasn't helping anything. "She thinks she's above taking orders from me." But at least she was relatively friendly, which Aleyi figured was better than nothing when it came to queens.

"She's a queen. I look at firelizard queens and first I'm glad I don't have one...then I wonder how the weyrwomen ever manage."
R'mer thought wryly that that might be why no man would ever Impress a queen...no man could handle one. Women were weaker than men in some ways, true, but far stronger in others. They always seemed to have more confidence to them. "But she's adorably cute, so you have to forgive her," he added, wryly.
Which was true of all firelizards. One could never stay mad with them, one could never remain angry.

Aleyi shook her head. "I don't have a clue." She only had a fire-lizard- it could only be worse with dragons. Flitters didn't talk.
Brooke chirped brightly at R'mer's compliment. She had no problem with being called cute, even if she probably felt that 'gorgeous and regal' would fit her better. Aleyi smiled at the little queen. "She's definitely one of the sweeter Golds." Not very helpful, but nice enough to make up for it.
It worked for her. "And better behaved than my other two, but I guess that's given." A Green and an excitable Brown made a bad pair. "What about, uh, Thunder? I feel like I never see him."

"Tinth," R'mer noted. "Is enough of a handful."
The blue was asleep, though, and thus not being a handful right that second. "I just have the one firelizard," he noted, rather thoughtfully. "Just the one little guy...who behaves most of the time. I'd say I'm lucky, but I'm sure, around here, I'll pick another one up sooner or later. I hear Lilac rose again."
The weyrwoman's violet was a pretty reliable source of even more pesky firelizards around the Weyr.

"Jerglith made me get Pip and Tuck- I have no clue why, he doesn't even like flitters." Well... she sipped on her klah. She did have a clue. "Well, he does have dream of having a flitter named after him." She shook her head. Little Jergle had been his only suggestion for names ever. For anyone's pet- not that they had been consulted much.
"But I'm sure not getting another one." Her mismatched trio were a sure sign that trying to chance a certain color did not work. "Good luck if you go to Lilac's clutch."
Her last attempt at a queen's clutch had gotten her a queen. It was better than the Green she had gotten at Spunky's... but Aleyi simply didn't want more. R'mer was lucky to only have one, and a Blue at that.

"Haven't thought about it. I'd rather give priority to some of the crafters and candidates who don't yet have them. I've had Thunder a good while, though." He grinned. "He's a good little blue, always cheerful. Not moody, like Tinth is."
He sipped his klah. "I don't think I'd ever want more than three. Three plus a dragon? That's enough, especially with one of them a queen." Queens were trouble. So were greens, for that matter. Females, on the whole, were trouble, although he wasn't going to say *that* in front of the bluerider.
He glanced at Brooke again. "But a pretty color, at least."

"Has there ever been a flitter that wasn't cheerful?" Aleyi laughed. Some could be a bit tart, but they were still happier in general than any dragon.
"Agreed." If things had gone as planned, Aleyi would only have two- well, gone as planned at Spunky's hatching. She hadn't expected to double Impress there. But that was very rarely the case when it came to draconics. Aleyi had struck gold with Jerglith.
Maybe that explained why she had been unlucky with fire-lizards. A Gold, a Green, and the wildest yet most nervous Brown in existence weren't a great combination.
Brooke gurgled happily. R'mer was just full of compliments for her today.

R'mer considered that. "I think Gwenduinne has a barred who is only happy when she's about to rise," he notes. "So, yeah. I think there are a few."
"But I am very glad I didn't manage to Impress such a creature...yet." He was not going to turn down one, *maybe* two more firelizards. "Tinth is on at me to get another one. I'm not sure about it, but its not like I'd be risking two hatchlings at the same time. So, overall, how is Jerglith?"
Jerglith was not Tinth, but he was a pretty wonderful blue, all told.

Aleyi couldn't quite picture an unhappy flitter. She had only gotten a good look at Gwen's Barred once, and that was at a hatching so her attention hadn't been so much on her. "Maybe. But at least she's happy when she's about to rise, I guess." Definitely better than getting grumpier.
"Don't listen to him," Aleyi laughed. Jerglith was at fault for her fair. But other than that... he was doing well. "Jerglith's the same as usual." Especially in comparison with Tinth, he was quite stable. Whatever the moodiness was that had hit him once, it was long gone. "Still nosy and silly and all flirty with the Barreds."
With the utter lack of Barreds rising lately, however, she wouldn't doubt it if he started going after Greens. As long as they had female riders...

R'mer grinned. "At least you can tell what your dragon will do five minutes from now." Thunder suddenly appeared from between, settling to the bluerider's shoulder.
"And what's up with you?" he asked the little blue, getting a chirple in response. Likely, the firelizard had decided awake rider had to be better company than sleeping dragon. Thunder was a rather brighter shade than Tinth, mind. Much more the classic blue.

Aleyi laughed as Thunder appeared abruptly. "And I can probably guess at what my flitters will do too." Brooke chirped a small greeting to him, apparently feeling that since R'mer had been so nice to her, she had to be nice to his pet.
It didn't take long for Pip to notice Thunder's appearance either, and she soon arrived at the table, Tuck close behind. They chattered eagerly to the Blue- Pip especially. Tuck, as usual, was a bit awkward and seemed only to greet Thunder so he looked tough for Pip, not because he wanted to talk.
"So much for a slightly quiet breakfast." Aleyi cupped her hands around her klah protectively. Who knew when Pip would suddenly get the idea to try and dip into that.

R'mer sipped his own klah. "Well, that's the thing...if you want quiet, stay away from firelizard hatchings."
Thunder squawked at him, then realized a queen was being nice to him. He sidled towards Brooke, his eyes whirling. After all, when did queens pay attention to blues? Never, that was when...blues were normally beneath their notice and supposed to go off and chase a green or two.
"At least your three are all pretty. Almost as pretty as Thunder." He grinned a bit. "No offense, Brooke."
Brooke was still the prettiest queen around.

"Your advice is a little late," Aleyi replied, her tone heavy with mock regret. Some was probably real too, but she couldn't totally feel that way about her collection.
Brooke looked dismayed when Thunder started edging towards her. No, a hello was not a 'come over here and sit by me'. This was why she couldn't be polite. Small fire-lizards were not smart enough to deal with that right.
R'mer's sudden turn from complimenting her was her last straw and, with a light warning snarl at Thunder, Brooke strutted to the edge of the table next to Aleyi. The Bluerider rolled her eyes. "Obviously she took offense." Crazy flitter.

R'mer snorts. "She can't expect a guy to think she's prettier than his own firelizard. That's pretty much impossible. And I certainly couldn't put any dragon above Tinth."
No, not even Nayarath, although R'mer had never had anything...or sought anything...to do with Nyocia's Weyrwoman. It was not his place. Rarely, a blue might be crazy enough to chase a queen, but one would never catch one.
And R'mer would much rather have certain of the cute male greenriders than any weyrwoman anyway. Thunder looked after Brooke with a pouting expression, but knew better than to try and approach her. Queens.
