Appearance: Esskin is extremely vain and he won't leave his room unless his appearance is perfectly put together. Unfortunately, his thick, curly brown hair conspires against him. As soon as he's done with it, it immediately gets messed up again. So he's mostly given up on that, hoping that he can pull off the breezy messy look. His eyebrows, however, are always carefully groomed and he views stubble as a sin. He is medium height, and thin. He calls himself "lithe," but really he's just that...thin. Not muscular, not slender. Just thin. His skin is pale and perhaps even pasty, so he tries to get a lot of sun. Unfortunately that usually makes freckles pop up across his face. His eyes, at least, are a pretty green color and require no effort. His clothes are very important to them, and he always keeps them neat and clean. Ah, appearance, such a tricky business, requiring constant work.
Personality: Sprezzatura: The art of being graceful without effort. That's what Esskin dreams of. To float through life, glamorous and admired, one of the Beautiful People.
But, of course, that requires a process. And Esskin is at the beginning. Right now he's just a scatterbrained, vainglorious young man trying to make his way in the world. Esskin is incredibly energetic, but often doesn't know how to channel that energy, so he has a rather nervous temperament. Esskin's mind is always in a million places at once and he has trouble focusing.
He is a bit of a scaredy-cat. Really, if the world didn't have things that were delightful to balance out the scary things, he would probably just hide under his bed all day. But then the world wouldn't get to see his handsome face! So it's better to face the day and just run away when the scary things come out. Yes, he's a coward, but at least he'll save his own skin.
Along those lines, Esskin is one of the least masculine people around. Sure, it's a cliche, but Esskin is one of those gay boys who calls himself a lady and refers to his best friends as "girlfriend." But even though his personality is pretty feminine, he likes to be the boss in a relationship. If he ever gets a lover, the guy had better be prepared to be henpecked. Of course, Esskin flirts relentlessly with any male that takes his fancy. Secretly, though, he's a virgin and doesn't have much experience at all with either love or sex.
History: Esskin grew up in Crom Hold. He is the oldest of three siblings, and has one sister and one brother. His parents are boring ol' Holders. Esskin spent his entire life rebelling against the ordinariness of his background. He dreamed of moving away from home and making a name for himself. Esskin was always different, and he didn't feel any need to change. Naturally, this led to a lot of teasing as a child, but he still managed not to cave in to peer pressure. When he was 14, he went to the Weaver Hall because he loved clothes. Unfortunately, he wasn't that good at making them. Esskin was arguably the worst apprentice, and he always messed up his projects. Things were looking pretty dire, but then a Search dragon appeared in the sky. On an impulse, he agreed to come to the Weyr. Pretty dragons! An eternal lifemate! What more could you want?
