Name: H'rik
Age: 18
Rank: Weyrling/Journeyman Harper
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance:
This youth is wry and fit for he must be. As a Journeyman of the Haprer Hall, he must not only look the part, but be able to outrun any renegade, or drunken Holdsman, who wants to wring his neck. Henerik is only slightly taller than the average man, standing straight at 5'11. A rarity amongst the Pernese, he was marked with luck by his curly golden locks. Of course, he wouldn't call having curly hair lucky at all as it constantly poofs up with humidity and frizzes embarrassingly. By ways of making it cooperate with him, he usually has it gelled to his head and has cropped very short around his ears and the back of his neck, letting the top grow out only just. It is obvious that this young man has lived a hard eighteen Turns and the scar running down from the end of his left eyebrow to the middle of his check seem to exonerate that. With the scar acquired, he is also marked as a man that shouldn't be messed with in a knife fight. Contrastingly, his hazel-green eyes sparkle with friendliness and mirth. At the same time, he appears to draw people in and push them away strictly through his handsome, although slightly marred physical appearance.
Though he is not rich, his status as a Harper has allowed him to wear finer clothing with rich colors of dark blue and red or wherhide dyed to the same hues. He has become a Candidate to Impress a dragon of Pern, but still refuses to show the Harper Hall disrespect by taking off his journeyman's shoulder knot in lo of the much "lesser" one of a Candidate of a Weyr. Usually, strapped to his back is a finely crafted guitar that, of course, the young man made himself. It's a rich mahogany and, because it's constantly oiled, shines beautifully. At his belt, he carries only two items: The first is his handy-dandy dagger. The piece was a gift from his father and he's carried it and taken cared for it ever since. The second item is Henerik's apprentice pipes, the first ones he ever made. Though by now his level of craftsmanship could surely produce better ones, these pipes hold memories. At his side, in a knapsack containing folders of music, the Teaching Ballads, popular Sags and songs, replacement strings, a carving knife, and a multitude of styluses and writing materials.
Personality:
Like many harpers who have gone through the trials and tribulations of being an apprentice since they were twelve Turns of age, Henerik has outgrown his boyish tendencies to shirk duties and attempt to cozy up to the Masters so that he should be their favorite and maybe get a mark or two at Gather. No, now he works hard and takes his duties to heart, practicing his instruments with great diligence. Guitaring and pipe-playing are his favorite activities. He loves everything about music and, although isn’t a great composer, can sit for hours strumming away at his guitar and humming along with the sounds.
Teaching, too, has become one of the young man’s favorite pass times. He’s slow and patient with new students and doesn’t mind giving up free time of his to give them extra lessons or words of encouragement. However, he’s still not entirely perfect at his craft and can often lack confidence in what he does. For all his intelligence, he sometimes over analyzes problems as well, skimming past the easy answer in lo of something more difficult. Still, he has a creative way of looking at problems and often comes up with solutions that are outside-the-box. He delights in creating, whether that be giving an apprentice a few words of advice and a helping hand while they craft a guitar, or strumming along for a master whose trying to think of the best cord to follow in her composition.
History:
Being a child is diffuclt. Being the child of two journymen Harpers is even more so. From the day of his birth, Henerik has always been on the move. His parents, who had taken the union, had been allowed by the newly founded Harper Hall of the Southern Continent to travel together, educating and recruiting for their Craft. Like the dragonmen, the Harper numbers were down severely and the only way to replenish the ranks was to recruit Candidates, so to speak.
So, the two journied and journied and journied and one day, to neither of their suprise, out came Henerik! And what a bundle of joy he was. It was hard for the two to both perform their duties to the Craft and to raise the boy into a good lad. He was constantly running wild and the family could never seem to get anything accomplished while he was around. Still, they refused to foster the young lad and instead did the best they could under the circumstances.
The boy learned a lot himself under their tutalage about the Harper Craft where music was concerned. They taught him the Teaching Ballads and showed him how to play the guitar, the harp, the pipes. And he was a quick learner. Music seemed to be the best method of calming the youngster and his parents learned it was through music where they'd be able to control him. The Turns passed and life became easier on the family.
During their travels, Henerik's mother became pregnant again, but this time holding a child was much more strenuous on the older woman than it was before. They took up a home, briefly, in Danac Hold and this was where Henerik finally was able to make some friends. Before, he was pulled and taken along and ushered about by his family's busy schedule. Now that his mother was incopasitated, he was finally left to his own decives.
He met a young girl, a few Turns younger than he was and despite their difference in age, became fast friends. He never mentioned it to her, but he knew that he would have to leave soon; his mother would not stay out of action for long. But he was unwilling to distance himself from the girl Brylorea because not only was she attached to him, he had grown quite fond of her himself.
Ever the troublemaker, Henerik got himself into a nasty little brawl with a drunk man at a Gather, though it wasn't a serious event. He had been picking a little too hard at some Holder at a wine stand when he suddenly turned, drawing a blade. Henerik, with no fighting experience whatsoever, dodged and ducked away from the older man's assaults as best he could. Alas, in his inexperience and slowness, the man was able to rake a fine gash across his face. Before he was stabbed to death, a other men came rushing to Henerik's aid, pulling the man away. Because Henerik drew no weapon and only acted in self defense when the man charged at him, he was relieved of all blame from the incident.
Only three months passed into their friendship when his mother and father got an urgent message from the Harper Hall. They were needed back for a special project. The MasterHarper had granted his mother Mastership and her duties now belong directly to the Hall. Before he had a chance to tell Brylorea what was happening, he was whisked a-dragonback and taken to Harper Hall. As tradition, he had Turned twelve in Danac Hold and his parents, after consulting the lad, made him an official apprentice of the Harper Craft.
He was unhappy, however, despite the fact that he was surrounded by music, the love of his life. He missed Brylorea desperately, but had no way of getting into contact with the holdbrat. He knew that her parents detested the fact that he and she were friends and doubted that they would pass along and letters, even from Harper Hall, that came Brylorea's way. Soon, however, he was emerged in the ways of Harper Hall and eventually began to forget about his childhood friend.
At the Hall he was not only taught music and instrument making, but the laws and regulations that governed Pern itself. He soon became one of the best apprentices in Harper Hall, as he was steadfast in his learning, though a bit of a troublemaker as well. As he grew in the hall, his tendencies to cause trouble diminished. When he was sixteen Turns of age, one of the journeyman's queen flitter was caught by a bronze of the Hall and clutched an incredible 35 eggs. Of course, they were given firstly as gifts of congratulations to newly made Masters and a few senior journeymen. However, the rest were used as an incentive. Each master of a certain field within the Hall (instrument making, composition, voice, etc) was given three eggs and were told to disburse them as was fit.
The Master of Instrument Construction decided to make a competition out of the presentation of the eggs. The apprentice who could make the best guitar or pipe or tambourine, respectively, would be given an egg. A participant could only submit an instrument in one of three in the competition for fairness. Henerik, who already had a reputation for being a fine maker of instruments submitted a guitar to the master. The quality was superb, the best guitar he'd ever made as an apprentice and it was the best out of all the others the Master received. He was awarded a fairly large egg out of the three the Master had been granted with.
Within a sevenday, the egg Hatched into a rather interesting looking brown. His legs were very stubby and short and his body seemed unnaturally round and long at the same time. His wings, too, seemed longer than an average brown flit, but the way he stood on his stubby little legs made him look like an over sized trundlebug. Strangely enough, the brown refused to learn how to fly around the same time his clutchmates did, instead preffering to scuttle awkwardly around on the ground. Hence, Henerik named the little brown Scuttle.
The rest of his time as an apprentice past with flurries of learning. He was bounced from Master to Master improving his skills and at the same time given tasks that were set to see if he could teach. He also was schooled on the greater meanings of the Teaching Ballads and Sags, as well as some of the more important laws of Pern. On his eighteenth Turn he walked the tables, becoming a journeyman of the Craft. However, he wasn't going to be spent out journeying like all of the other young men and women who had walked the table with him. His new peers were all, he realized, younger than he was and was disturbed by the though. Was he not a good choice for a journeyman? Were they simply ranking him up because he wouldn't fit in as a senior apprentice.
No, it turned out, that wasn't the case. The MasterHarper drew the man into his study the morning after his promotion for a meeting. If things worked out the way they were supposed to, Henerik was to become a Candidate to Impress. The Harper told Henerik that the new and only Weyr of Pern was in a pitfall when it came to education and knowledge of the Teaching Ballads. While the Weyr contained the fighters and defenders of Pern, it would not look good on dragonkind if they were all uneducated men and women. He was to perform his duty as a journeyman by not only attempting to teach his fellow Candidates and Lower Cavern workers, but to become Weyrsinger.
The boy protested. While he, like any child of Pern, had fantasied about riding a dragon, about fighting Threads (his heart lurched painfully on the sudden abrupt memory of his childhood friend Brylorea), but he wasn't supposed to be a dragonrider! He was supposed to be a Harper. The MasterHarper reassured the lad that his purpose was far greater than simply being a Harper and going around teaching the Holders like his parents. No, he needed to teach the dragonriders. And he would not be the only one: A Searchrider from Nyocia Weyr was commissioned to take as many Candidates from the senior apprentices and new journeymen as possible. Henerik was the oldest because, if he Impressed and when he Impressed, he was to be senior Weyrsinger at the Weyr. Even if other Candidates Impressed before Henerik, it would be his duty and responsibility to ensure that Nyocia Weyr was not only educated, but had a link directly back to Harper Hall. He was to be lesion to both Weyr and Hall, filling either side in on gossip and news.
Still, Henerik had a nagging feeling about the assignment. What if he wasn't Searched? But his fears were unfounded. He was the first to be chosen by the blue Searchdragon. Four more Candidates were also selected from the Harper Hall and brought to Nyocia to stand on the Sands for Nayarath's second Clutch.
Pets:
Name: Scuttle
Type: Firelizard
Color: Brown
Appearance:
He's very stout for a brown, as though his large, round body is too heavy for his stumpy legs. Indeed, they do seem a wee bit short for a brown flitter. What he lacks in height, he makes up for in length, being rather long for a brown little fellow. His hide is a very deep, chocolate brown, while the tip of his muzzle and his forepaws and somewhat lighter.
Personality:
As the name suggests, this little brown scuttles almost everywhere. Unlike most flits who take to the sky, Scuttle is more often caught on the ground, burrowing his way into something or scuttling along beside his Impressed for short distances. Of course, he does fly and quite often when he needs to, but he never outgrew his walking "problem"
Other: Henerik is a teacher and a bridge between Harper Hall. Naturally, he will be far more loyal to the Harper than to the dragonmen, but will not renege on his promise to fight Thread along side them.

Dragon Name: Emblath
Name Origin: Embla, one of the gods who built Middle-earth.
Dragon Age: Hatchling
Dragon Color and Size: Emblath is a light green but has a myriad of other shades mixed in. These other colors never seem to fade from her main color to theirs though, but show up in little dashes or specks in random spots all over her hide. Emblath has a slightly heavy-set build and is large for a Green at 26 meters.
Dragon Personality: Emblath always seems to be totally ‘out-of-it’. Her voice has a lofty drift to it and she never seems to be looking at something around her, but gazing into some other dimension. It’s like she lives totally in her own little world, and although she will come to Pern every once in a while, seems to prefer the solitude of her own imagination. Getting her to focus on anything or getting close to her can be hard because of this, but when she will talk, Emblath always seems to be full of good insights and can prove to be a very thoughtful dragon when given the chance.
