Name: I'sif
Age: 19 Turns *born in spring*
Rank: Weyrling
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Homosexual
Appearance: I'sif is about six feet, two inches tall and is very skinny. He eats much more than boys his age, but can never seem to gain any weight, which is a sore point for him as he was teased for being 'skin and bones'. He has blue eyes and brown hair which he keeps short and neat. His face is ovular, with high cheekbones and an aquiline nose.
Personality: I'sif is a loner and is happy to keep it that way. He is dreadful when it comes to social situations, and will avoid meeting new people at all costs. He is only content to be with his family and that is all he truly wants, even though he was chosen to stand for the Hatching and knows that is impossible. I'sif is afraid of the Hatching, if not because of the fact that it will divide him from his family forever, then because it will force him to become more social and he isn't sure he is able to do that.
When you look past the social retardedness, I'sif is a caring boy and willing to sacrifice everything for his siblings and parents. He likes to fiddle with anything he can get his hands on and enjoys taking things apart and reassembling them, but his aversion to people was enough to keep him from being apprenticed, so he acted as his mother's shadow, learning much of what he knows from her.
History: I'sif is the third child of Ileana and Sorin, both of whom were Journeymen Harpers at the time of his birth. From birth he was attached to his older sisters Rahela and Livia, constantly following them around as soon as he could walk.
But then everything changed when Rahela Turned twelve and was apprenticed to a Master that I'sif didn't know. He was six Turns then, and the loss of his sister was a turning point in his life. He became withdrawn and wouldn't leave his family's quarters for weeks. When he did go out, he wouldn't look at anyone, let alone talk to them.
Livia left two Turns later when I'sif was eight, but her loss was tempered with the arrival of a baby brother called Traian, and I'sif consoled himself with the new baby. But disaster struck again when it was time for I'sif to be apprenticed to a Master.
Ileana had carefully considered her oldest son, and went to great lengths to find the best teacher for him, but when I'sif was presented to the Master, it was like he shut down. He tried his best to talk, but stuttered terribly and embarrassed himself so badly that he fled, hiding himself away for the rest of the day.
Sorin insisted that I'sif's behavior was just an attempt to get attention, but Ileana doubted it. So she began to watch I'sif carefully and never brought up the subject of that day again. She saw how her oldest boy wouldn't look people square in the eye and how he couldn't seem to choke out a word without stuttering when he was forced to interact with new people.
She was adamant in her protests to keep her son with her, claiming that he could learn as well with her as with anyone, and so life went on peacefully, with the occasional disturbance now and then.
Shortly after I'sif had Turned nineteen, the dragon riders came to the Harper Hall on Search. He hadn't even meant to be in the area when the dragons arrived, but his mother sent him to the kitchens and he had to pass through the crowd to get there.
It was an unwelcome surprise when the green head had lowered into his line of vision, blue eye fixed on I'sif intently. The young man just stood stock-still, blushing furiously and trying to conceal the shaking of his body. The dragon's rider called out for I'sif's family, and Sorin answered, saying that his son could go to Nyocia Weyr to stand.
Half-mad with panic, I'sif ran to his father, clutching his arms roughly, sobbing as if his heart was breaking. He couldn't believe that his own father was abandoning him and sending him off to the Weyr! And then he saw his mother, saw her tears and knew that they had tricked him, and nothing could stop the twisting sense of betrayal that had turned his stomach.
And so the green rider helped a rather wooden I'sif up onto his dragon and took him to Nyocia Weyr, where he will stand and try to make something of himself.
