Appearance: If you look past the scars, R'lyr is a handsome man. He is tall and slender, with a healthy build. He has straight red hair about the length of his chin, worn in a choppy cut. His eyes are green, but they look glazed from his blindness. Besides that, his face his unmarred, but he has bad scars all over his chest and legs. Because of that, he is rarely seen wearing shorts or walking around shirtless. He only wears plain, neutral colored clothing that could go well with anything, because he is afraid of picking out a bad combination because he can't see the colors.
Personality: All his life, R'lyr has been the sweet, naive man who was willing to anything asked of him. Now, he regrets it. He is bitter and depressed, and slow to trust anyone. He doesn't believe that anyone has his best interests at heart. He is very introverted and keeps to himself, and he is very reluctant to reveal his inner thoughts and feelings to anyone unless he has known them for a long time and has gotten to trust them. He longs for someone to see him for his personality, not his disability, but has difficulty believing that anyone ever will.
R'lyr gets very angry whenever anyone thinks that he can't manage on his own because of his disability. He is determined to remain independent, and he refuses help unless he absolutely needs it. He is determined to rely only on himself, his cane, and his draconic friends.
History: Relyr born in a small Weyrhold with an ambitious leader who wanted to expand and take over more of the Southern Continent. He had a normal, happy childhood. He was very kind and friendly, and always volunteered to help around the Weyrhold with various tasks. At age sixteen, he Impressed to Blue Easath in one of the few clutches before Nyocia was formed. Two turns later, when he graduated, he was sent on a special mission to explore the wild parts of the Southern Continent. R'lyr had no idea what he was getting in to, and readily volunteered.
For the first few days, everything went great. He even discovered a wild fire-lizard clutch and Impress a bronze from it. Then, he was camping alone one night and wild felines found him. They injured him badly before Easath could send them away. It took almost a day for a Healer to reach him, and by then, his cuts were infected. The cuts healed, but the fever caused by the infection led to his blindness, which never went away.
He wad depressed for a long time. It was a combination of the news of Nyocia Weyr's formation and caring for little Kestrel that finally brought him out of his mood, but he was never the same again. He left his native Weyrhold and joined Nyocia, but worries that there will be no purpose for a blind dragonrider.
Pets: Kestrel, a bronze fire-lizard. Kestrel is very calm and patient, and helps guide his owner around the Weyr.
Other: He usually carries a thin cane to feel for things in front of him.
