Wuith had won! After all these Turns, after all the attempts, after all his hard work, Wuith had caught Nayarath. But not all were completely happy with the outcome. A tan had never caught a gold before, and none knew what to expect. The fate and future of dragon-kind seemed to be falling deeper and deeper into the fog of mystery…
L’han, although having once been acting Weyrleader and weyrsecond both before and ever since, was the first tanrider to officially hold the title. It filled him with pride at the achievement, more Wuith’s doing then his own, but there was still a problem. He knew the role of leader very well, being of an elevated status since shortly after becoming a full rider, but Kora… that was maybe his biggest problem. Since the rogues came to Nyocia their relationship had been…. complicated, possibly leaning more towards awkward. And more now then ever.
L’han sighed deeply, walking a well worn path around the bowl in need for a breath of fresh air. He still didn’t know how she felt about this, and if the Weyrleaders couldn’t work together then the whole Weyr would suffer. She had probably been hoping on Kayth winning again, Kora and D’mas had grown quite close but it might have been mostly for their position.
Maybe it would have been easier if Kayth had won…

Kora was feeling sentiments similar to L'han's. What with how Wuith chased Nayarath, Flight after Flight, he was bound to win one day. But Kora couldn't help but wish it hadn't been this time. D'mas had been a perfectly good Weyrleader, and Kayth had been a good mate, as well as having chased well. What had gotten into Nayarath to let Wuith win?
Kora knew L'han made a perfectly capable Weyrleader, but she had had… issues with him in the past. Minor ones, but had D'mas ever given her trouble? Not a bit. Naturally, she wanted to opt for that.
Nayarath had no problem with her new mate, past snappily making sure he wouldn't ever chase anyone else again (at least not unless Nayarath took yet another mate, which she wasn't currently considering), and was probably snuggling with him on a ledge. Kora was wandering the Bowl, head down as she thought and Soot on her shoulder, keeping a careful eye out for females to flirt with. If Wuith had won Nayarath, he obviously had a chance at some queens.
He wasn't, however, keeping an eye out for anything else and Kora wasn't watching at all. Soot looked up a moment too late and his warning squawk coincided with a whump. Kora looked up and stepped back with an awkward, "Sorry," before quite realizing... shards. Of all the people she could have bumped into, it had to be L'han.

L'han had been too lost in thought, no watching what was in front of him. He could have just as easily run himself into rock or tree, but instead it had to be the subject of his thoughts. Being of a sturdier build he had only rocked back on his heels, but hands had shot out to support Kora as she now stood before him.
"No...it was my fault..." L'han admitted. He tried not to make it sound like he was in self pity, but wasn't it true? The title he know held seemed to feel... empty. Like he was only standing in once more. With a sigh he knew what he had to do. Things had to be said, and maybe in about 7 months he could try holding Wuith back when Nayarath rose again. With how happy the tan was, by his queen with an affection only rivaled by that for his rider, it seemed unlikely.
A small look around saw that they had privacy, the only people in sight dwarfed by distence and well out of ear shot. "I don't know where to start, but i guess it might be too late to apologise for that fight we had so long ago. I shouldn't have let it go on for so long..."
It was the only thing that came to mind, it was somewhere to start at least and all of it true. "And i dont expect us to be weyrmates either. D'mas is a good man and a fine rider, I will not stand between you."

Kora really didn't feel she needed the help, but she didn't pull away when L'han reached out to steady her. It wouldn't do them any good for her to treat him like he was repulsive- he wasn't. And he sure sounded unhappy, which was, most likely, her fault. It hadn't exactly been a great meeting when Kora had woken up with L'han in her bed.
"I don't think either of us were paying attention so..." It was alright; it had been both their faults. She didn't really know how to finish. Kora bit back a sigh. She hated how awkward things were between them, but didn't know how to fix it. That they hadn't talked for so long had only made things worse and she didn't know what to say.
She remained quiet while L'han spoke, thinking back on that confusing incident. "No it's- it's not too late. It's alright." She didn't want to press about it. Kora didn't know where he had gone after, but had a feeling that finding out- or trying to find out- would do nothing for the tension between them.
A slight blush rose to her cheeks when L'han continued to D'mas, more because she was flustered than anything else. "I don't-" She didn't know what to say. She needed to talk to D'mas. There hadn't been any real relationship between them, at least not on Kora's side. They had slept together, but past appreciating D'mas, she felt little for him. Mostly, she felt bad about the idea of kicking him out to let L'han in, but also about keeping D'mas in her bed for no other reason than to have someone there seemed wrong.
Kora wasn't sure what she could say to point this out but also no invite L'han in and chewed her lip as her thoughts struggled. "D'mas is a very good man," she agreed. "But I don't..." This likely wouldn't help how she looked at all to L'han. Staying with D'mas felt clingy to Kora, possibly even a desperate, rebellious move against the turnout of Nayarath's Flight, but to L'han... she wouldn't doubt if it looked to him like she was just throwing him away. Like her whole life was decided by Nayarath and D'mas was just another man, and L'han would soon be yet another one.
Mostly Kora wanted time to herself.

L'han couldn'thelp but have a small smiled twinge at the corners of his mouth. Kora being confused and flustered just looked odd, in a funny little way. Reaching out he smoothed her hair, almost a pat, hoping he wasn't crossing any personal boundries. "No one's rushing you, Kora, and no one's expecting you to choose yourself a man. You have your hands full running a Weyr, and our service is to our dragons and Pern."
D'mas might find himself a disapointed to loose his title but maybe also his weyrmate too, but maybe he already knew. Surely he would have known after all this time how it seemed Kora felt, but for a bronzerider there would be no difficulties to find a new weyrmate should he choose to take one. He himself had spent some time with Shador while Kelth clutch, but she was taking advantage of the opertunity.
"Perk up girl, its not becoming of you. You haven't looked so lost since we were weyrlings." L'han reminded her that they had history afterall, he knew a bit of her past before he was pushed to lead fighiting dragons and she to lead the Weyr. Nothing had really changed since. "Do you remember when Wuith tripped on his tail and knocked over green Gesalth? He felt guilty for days."
((Gesalth = NPC)

Kora couldn't help but smile a little when L'han did; she surely looked silly, standing there stumbling over words. But if that could ease the tension at all, she wouldn't be more than a little embarrassed. But she didn't entirely trust his words- it sure had sounded like she was expected to make a choice. For now, she would opt for neither.
It probably wasn't the best choice, but it was the most comfortable one for her. Kora couldn't help but feel that, unless Kayth caught Nayarath again later, she was done with him. But she needed to talk to him, and she wasn't ready to just accept L'han.
Here, however, L'han was right. Overall, she needed to perk up. Stop worrying herself. "Sorry L'han, I-" Not helping. "Yes, I remember that." She smiled weakly. "And Nayarath made fun of him for just as long." The Gold had been born with and never outgrown her teasing nature. Wuith likely had a long history of tolerating it.
