Lilac had been surprisingly amiable about having her eggs moved. Perhaps it was because the Violet was off with her current mate and had nearly missed Kora picking up the sand-filled dish and taking off for the Lower Caverns, or perhaps she simply agreed with her rider that Nayarath wasn't in a mood for others in her weyr.
Having felt particularly possessive of the space herself lately, Kora didn't mind Nayarath's opinion this time around either. When she noticed a quiver in one of the eggs, she headed with them for a space for more easily populated: the dining hall. There was no doubt that there would be people around to take Lilac's latest offspring off her hands.
Now they were set up, Lilac hovering over the bowl, her eyes whirling, and Kora, Soot, and Squeak hanging back just a little. All they needed was for the eggs to actually start hatching and a few takers for the miniature dragons that were to come.

Naturally, Nayarath would not want anyone around...the queen was broody. Which all of the riders had noticed...when the senior queen was on edge, the echoes of that flowed through the Weyr. It affected, to a point, even the blues and greens. Tinth was...snippy, R'mer thought. But then, he seldom needed a reason for that. Or any other behavior. I want another firelizard the blue said unexpectedly. What, Thunder isn't enough trouble for you? R'mer was not in the Weyr, responding to his dragon silently as he trekked towards the kitchen. The ominous silence from the blue should have warned him...when he did indeed make his way into the dining room, intending to go right on through to the hearth for klah, he saw Kora. And Lilac. And eggs. He sighed. Which is, I'm guessing, why you didn't...Only innocence came from the blue. And maybe he hadn't realized...the eggs were just on the point of cracking, and he thought one of them moved, but the hatching was in no way underway yet. Was the sire brown, tan or bronze? He didn't know. He wouldn't mind a green, he thought. A green would keep Thunder busy. OOC: Let's try this again .

You know I don't like flitts.
The argument had begun when the pair had first heard about the flitters, and then Februeth had decided that she should get one because maybe a happy-happy flitt would make her happy-happy, Lyn had then tried to explain that it was more likely that she would strangle said happy-happy flitt, because she couldn't stand annoying creatures that chittered away day and night and didn't do anything useful. As far as she was concerned, pets were only good if they were useful. Which in the case of Fire Lizards. They were not.
Evidently, from the meatroll in her hand and the carefully composed expression of cool detachment, Februeth had won. Quite handily with the argument "you can train them and then they will be useful." The dragon wasn't used to her rider being snappy with her though, and thus was leaving Lyn's annoyed whirlwind of thoughts alone. She didn't know how to train a Fire Lizard, but she supposed she could quickly learn, it couldn't be much harder than praising and scolding the creature, after all they weren't rumoured for intelligence. So if she could train it, perhaps it could do... Something. Carry a message or something or another. She'd figure out some use for the blasted creature.
You happy now? She muttered as she stepped around a corner to spot Kora. She didn't know her weyrwoman on a personal level, so it as with strictly observed formality that Lyn bowed and stepped away from the woman. Saying nothing.

A couple people had shown up, and none to soon. One larger egg split in two, revealing a Brown that immediately began to creel for food rather than going out hunting for it. Lilac chirped to the hatchling, encouraging it to head for one of the humans present. She sure had no plans to feed him.
The Brown only looked pitifully up at his mother though, and two more eggs hatched while he sat, a dark Barred and brightly colored Green. The Green turned and chattered shrilly to the Brown, looking anxious but at least more active than her larger brother. The Barred looked around for a target and then launched from the basin.
Smack, right into R'mer. Little claws locking into his shirt, the Barred creeled for food. Lilac nosed the hatchlings still sitting amidst the shaking eggs and the Green scrambled away, only to flop over the edge of the bowl and onto the table. The Brown got up to peer over at her and creeled again.
A little slow on the get-go, those two.

R'mer eeped. "Well, I guess somebody heard me mentioning that Thunder might need a girlfriend!" Because that was definitely a female firelizard clinging to his shirt with all four talons.
"Second, girl." He reached for the bowl of food, feeding the hatchling one of the suitably sized pieces. At least he'd done this before and knew how to do it. She was definitely an active type. "I think your name is Rain, little one." He already had a Thunder and there was a tan around somewhere called Lightning, so he didn't want to use that name. Rain was fast and went with Thunder too. She was dark for her color, he noticed.
"You're absolutely cute," he informed her, cheerfully. Sure, he hadn't *wanted* another firelizard, but he wasn't going to turn one down either. Almost as ambiguous as his dragon, some days...

Zukah had only just heard but instantly she had dropped her riding straps in the dirt and ran for the lower caverns. She knew she would get severely disciplined if her wingleader, or even the weyrleaders, found out but she wasn't going to miss this opportunity. Was this the second or third time she was trying to impress a firelizard? The barred rider couldn't remember...
If you drops my straps again, I will punish you! You're not the one who has to wear them! But despite Valkyrith's scolding words she had picked the straps up for her rider. It wouldn't be because of her that they got stuck on sweeps for a sevenday or more, they were so boring!
Bursting into the dining caverns she saw the first hatchling leap into the arms of a blue rider. She had made it in time!

Kora smiled quickly to Zukah, partly to acknowledge her presence and partly because she was simply grateful to have more people there. A few riders now, as well as a few average workers, were gathered, but with a dozen eggs, she was worried that hatchlings would start flying at unsuspecting people just trying to get a meal in. She had set up in a more empty corner of the hall, but baby flitters were pretty determined when it came to getting their first meal.
Usually. The Brown and Green were still quite unsure of what to do, although soon the Brown found himself also flopping onto the table when an egg hatching practically beneath him gave him a start. This egg revealed a Tan, who aimed an uncaring snort at his fallen brother and then spread his wings to head for a keeper. He overestimated his ability to just crack shell and fly though, and ended up falling to the ground several feet short of his goal.
While the Tan struggled to reset himself, two more eggs hatched, this time a Blue and another Green. The Blue made a beeline for a cook and quickly Impressed ((NPC)), and the Green, with a gurgle, jumped out of the bowl to sit with her earlier-hatched siblings. A bit overwhelmed by another hatchling, though this time nearly landing on him rather than hatching beneath him, the Brown ran from the table, took off, and found himself flying right into Lyn. One of the Greens tried to follow, fell short, and latched onto another lower cavern's worker instead.
Meanwhile, the Tan had crawled to Zukah and started chewing on her shoe in hopes of it providing him with the energy to fly to her arms, where all the other hatchlings seemed to be getting food.

The lizards where flopping everywhere! Maybe it was dangerous to have them on the table if they were all going to jump or fall off? It wouldn't do to let them get hurt, some not even waiting for their wings to dry.
Zukah was counting eggs and hatchlings when she felt a weight scratching at her boots. Looking down she found the little tan that had thought he could fly. "Now now, there is no meat in that old hide." Meat was offered to her to feed her new friend, who then tried to launch himself into the bowl. The barred rider was doing everything she could to separate the tan from the bowl so he wouldn't choke himself. She had tried too hard to get one flit, best not to lose it this quick.
A tan...it is adequate

Lyn had never been one to keep up what was going where, she instead focused on those who hadn't run off. She'd always thought they needed to eat immediately, but some of these little things were just waiting around, waiting for someone perhaps? Who knew. They were cute though, in a minature dragon way, even if there was no hope of getting one that looked like Februeth, she'd be happy with anything. Actually, correction, Februeth would be happy with anything. She didn't really need the extra effort at all, of training it, and whatever else came with flitters of any kind.
There seemed to be quite a few wanderers though, and Lyn frowned slightly. Didn't they normally go between if they didn't get fed, they went wild didn't they? Obviously, she hadn't done nearly enough research on these creatures before she'd agreed to Februeth's pleading. Next time the Sky suggested a dim scheme like this, she was going to lock herself in the records room until she knew everything there was to know about them. And even their bad points, she'd know.
Surprise flickered across her usually calm face as the brown flew into her, her hands immediately coming up to support the little creature and break the meatroll into parts to feed him with.

Senra had wondered on and off for a while about the pros and cons of firelizards. They were cute, but she knew they could be annoying as well. Besides, taking care of Eith was a lot of trouble as it was. Did she really need more than him? The dragon hadn't been much help with the situation either. Eith spoke his mind a lot, and sometimes Senra could never really decide if she could agree with what he thought or not.
According to the Brown, Senra had to decide what she thought on it, because she was the one that would have to deal with them. Telling Eith that he, too, would have to deal with them didn't really do much, because he didn't seem to care either way. Couldn't that dragon ever decide? He usually always knew what he thought, but apparently not this time.
You ought to decide something Mine. Lilac's eggs hatch. The Brown decided to point out to her.
Really? Senra still didn't know, but she decided that going to the hatching would at least be fun, and it wouldn't be that bad if she didn't get a firelizard. She headed down to the kitchens in time to notice that some of the eggs had already hatched, and a few of the firelizards were already being fed. She felt a bit of disappointment at missing the beginning, but decided it wasn't best to be deterred to much. Grabbing a handful of meat in case she would need, Senra stood around with the others, watching the eggs with an apprehensive eye.

Another Barred and Blue hatched in quick succession, both with food on their minds. They scrambled off in the same direction, got in each others way, squabbled and made a few mock scratches at each other, and then continued on. The Barred beat the Blue to the edge of the bowl and spread her wings, only to have the Blue jump on her back and use her as an organic takeoff. Luckily for her, the egg goo provided a bit of slick protection against his small claws.
Eventually both made it into the air, and both headed for one person: Senra. They nearly collided again as they landed on her shoulder, and their wings did get entangled, and so they started fighting all over again as they made their way down their arm for the food Senra held.
The Green, observing this, went the opposite direction and flew to R'mer. Thunder would be kept very busy.
A Tan and Brown, and third Blue and Green hatched next, finishing up the eggs. With a little nudging from Lilac, and eventually the Violet even taking off to lead one of them to a person, each found someone to feed them. Lilac returned to Kora's shoulder and purred happily. Another healthy clutch down.

"Eep...Thunder I said I was going to get you ONE girlfriend," R'mer teased as he suddenly found himself with a green joining the creel from the barred.
And he couldn't think of a name for this one...besides, he didn't have time, trying to make sure both of the little girls got their fair share of the available food.
He couldn't use Lightning...that was taken. She was too bright to be called Snow. Thunder, Rain and...
"I know. Hail. Because that causes even more trouble than Rain does." The green, not at *all* insulted, just gave him the classic 'feed me' look with whirling red eyes.

Senra smiled happily to herself as she fed the two lizards. Now that they were getting fed, they didn't seem to mind each other quite as much. What they needed now was names, and rather good names too, not something silly. What do you think? she asked Eith.
I don't know. How does one name something? the Brown dragon responded.
Well, I don't really know. You just think of something that fits, I guess. Senra tried to think about it for a while as she carefully fed the firelizards. As soon as they were full, she sparked an idea. I'll name the Blue one Snap, and the Barred can be Tumble.
Interesting. How did you come to that, Mine?
It just fit, that's all. Senra didn't really have a better way to explain it. Snap tried to crawl up her arm, flapping his little wings and making a tiny creeling noise. Tumble watched him for a moment and then nudged up against Senra's hands.
