N'ren walked a slow circle around the Weyr Lake. He was a bit tired from bathing Johannesth, and chilly from standing in the lake, but even in the cooler weather of fall, the best way to dry off was to move about in what sun there was. Every time winter approached, he couldn't help but wish the whole Weyr could shift down the mountain, where there were hardly seasons, but the queens seemed to enjoy being able to clutch here. They had to stay where the queens were.
A breeze slid by him and N'ren gathered his arms around his chest. Tuck chirped and wrapped his tail around his keeper's neck, although the gesture didn't add much warmth. "Maybe I should just give in and go change, hm?" He gave the Brown on his shoulder a sideways look.
Still warming, Johannesth reminded him.
Right. He wasn't getting a ride back to their weyr until Johannesth had decided he was sufficiently sunned, and N'ren didn't relish a walk the long way. Why the Tan couldn't have just gone and rested on his own weyr ledge, he didn't know. In his own mostly-silent way, Jo enjoyed being contrite. Or at least very different from N'ren.
For a while longer then, he would be stuck on the shores in wet trousers. Hmm. Maybe he would at least run into someone to talk to while he waited for Jo.

"Well, if you think about it, that was really entirely your own fault." Zadari laughed as she watched the blue flitt attempt to snort out the water that had gotten in his nose when he'd decided to breathe in... While his nose was underwater. SHe'd never assumed that Scuttle was very intelligent, but she had been hoping that something might change in the turns that she'd had him. Nothing. He was exactly the same then as he had been. Before everything. Sometimes, he was her only link to what had been, and she was glad she still had it. She didn't want to forget.
Crystal was just as regal as ever, now she was eying the blue and Zadari's completely soaked nature with a rather disdainful eye to her glance. Not that Zadari paid any attention. Sure it was starting to get chilly, but she'd been cold before and the chill in the air didn't compare to that. And the wonderful thing about clothes, was that they dried after a while. Perhaps not quickly in winter and it was best to get out of them quickly in winter, but for now, her boots could squelch all they wanted. She would simply deal with it. Maiath followed close behind them, eye whirling with worry at the slumped form of Scuttle on Zadari's hand. Will he be alright?
"He'll be fine." Zadari replied, her own eyes dancing with amusement at the worry the green was displaying. "It'll teach him not to do that again though." He'd been more worried and shocked than anything else, had he been submerged, then she would have worried. But no, he was fine. Just lazng and hoping for extra sympathy points. Glancing up, Maiath was the first one to see the Tan, and instantly went into shy-mode. Ducking her head and trying her vainest to hide her body behind Zadari at all costs. Zadari however, happily slid to a seat beside him, customary smile forming. "Hello, N'ren. Not wanting to move is he?"

It wasn't easy to miss the spectacle of a dragon trying to hide behind her rider, and Johannesth turned his head a bit to give the general scene an amused look. N'ren might not notice all of it, but there were always silly things going on in the Weyr Bowl: fire-lizards nearly drowning themselves, shy Greens, his rider getting cold. Good times.
Considering the Tan was behind him, and that Zadari had just appeared, N'ren missed the look and smiled instead at the Greenrider. "Hey Zadari. Does he ever want to move?" Not really. Johannesth was a good dragon, but N'ren couldn't help but wonder sometimes just what he had done to have ended up with someone so utterly unmotivated.
Tak chirped a polite greeting to Crystal and then looked uneasily down at Scuttle, never sure what to do with Blues. That Scuttle, like Torch, seemed to be on the low end of the intelligence spectrum wasn't much help. N'ren looked down too. "Your Blue alright?"
If he was anything like Torch, most likely. N'ren's own Blue had gotten distracted by a Green during Jo's bath and had disappeared, but he was a nose for trouble and a mind for dramatics. But it didn't hurt to ask.

The moment Maiath realised that her attempts to hide were only drawing even more attention, she straightened. Naturally shy from birth, the last thing Maiath wanted was... Attention, really. So she attempted to look dainty and dignified as she stretched out her wings before settling down on the ground again, small body curled around as tight as she could. Not hiding, not anymore. Simply enjoying the sun. All the while, she watched Johannesth. He looked so calm, so confident, she envied him. She really did. Because he didn't seem to suffer from shyness, nor did her care what was going on around him. How did one become so calm, so collected?
Laziness, Zadari called it, but Maiath thought he was simply wonderful. Shaking her head in bemusement, the woman couldn't help but laugh at her dragon as she smiled easily at N'ren. She didn't know the boy well, only that he was a good rider and Johannesth was lazy. "Well, it's a lovely day. What self respecting dragon wouldn't want to spend it sunning?" Personally, she'd always despised the dragons need to sun, as it had usually left her with a very pink nose and an itchy burn.
Crystals' reply to Tak was delighted, she was evidently thrilled that there was someone else to converse with that wasn't the stupid blue. Said stupid blue finally twitched and squawked loudly, much to Crystal's disgust who immediately went about scolding him. Scuttle, however, paid no attention and his whirling eyes fixed on N'ren. For no apparent reason he scuttled over to the boy to cheep at him, begging for pats. "Hm? He's fine. Decided to see what the water smelt like. He's not the most intelligent fire lizard."

A slight draconic smirk quirked Johannesth's features as Maiath adjusted her approach. How unlike a Green, to turn so anxious when a male looked at her. There were a couple about though. Jo was no flirt, but he had spent plenty of time observing all the females in Nyocia. He had only taken part in one Flight, but he had won, hadn't he? He knew what he was about, and Maiath looked like an easy target. Does the warmth spread better when you're curled up tight? Johannesth asked, a slight teasing edge to his voice. One didn't sun only to warm her wings, did she?
N'ren glanced briefly back at Johannesth, eyebrows raised. "I'm not sure I would call Jo self-respecting, but he's definitely not one to miss a chance at a spot of warmth." Despite the effort a dragon had to put into fighting Thread and general practicing, N'ren felt he did the lion's share of the work in their relationship. Johannesth was happy though.
Tak perked up at Crystal's thrilled chatter; the Brown didn't chat with many queens, but even when he did get the chance, they were usually reluctant to do as much as acknowledge him. He chattered a little more but, likely nervous of losing her goodwill, didn't say much. N'ren chuckled and scratched Scuttle's back. "Sounds like a Blue. Torch has done the same thing, with more than water. It drives Tak crazy." Everything about Torch drove Tak crazy. The Brown had no tolerance for silliness, but Torch could act nothing but.

I like it like this. Was all the green mumbled in response to his teasing, curling tighter into her little ball. She glanced out from her little ball for a moment before resting her head on the ground, obviously uncomfortable. If there was something Maiath was definitely not, it was a flirt. Zadari wasn't even sure that she knew how to flirt unless she was close to rising, and even then, if she remembered right, it was shy and awkward flirting.
"Oh I'm sure he's not that bad. I mean, look at Maiath, she becomes a trundlebug whenever someone talks to her." THe green glared at her for saying it, but Zadari simply laughed, waving her hand in a dismissive gesture and turning her attention back to N'ren. "Besides, warmth is good for them. Makes them happy, so what else could you possibly need?" Some darker dragons, she knew, didn't enjoy sunning as much simply because it got too hot, but she'd never known a dragon personally who didn't like to sleep in the sun and simply soak it all up.
Crystal was more than happy to talk to him, relieved that she'd finally met a flitt that was intelligent, she left her perch on Zadari's shoulder to sit next to him, eying Scuttle with distaste when he promptly purred and fell over, grasping onto N'ren's fingers as he did so and chirping at him. "He's never really been the most... intelligent, he's strange, I suppose. A bit of a mimic too."

Rumbling softly to himself, Johannesth closed his eyes again. Unorthodox, that Green. Maideneth was excitable and wild, but at least normal. For a Green, anways. They were a strange bunch.
"Jo hardly talks, so that's a pity." Not that he would expect Maiath to do much else when she was being teased. Johannesth could have come up with a lot of friendlier things to say. The Tan was hardly worried about pleasing his rider though. He shrugged, somehow feeling like Zadari was contradicting herself even though she had said nothing along those lines. "It's fine, but I wouldn't mind it if that wasn't all he did in his free time." The only advantage was that Jo didn't waste his time when he was doing things. That he had one of the most efficient dragons in the Weyr was perhaps something to brag about, unless he added that he only did it out of laziness, which everyone was aware of.
Tak slid off N'ren's shoulder to sit level with Crystal, utterly pleased to have found a queen that appreciated him. N'ren grinned and rubbed Scuttle's stomach. "He looks fun though." Good-looking too, by fire-lizard standards, and for small colors, that mattered more than being clever.
