Name: Hunolsik
Age: 16 Turns
Rank: Candidate
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual for the most part
Appearance: He has straight black hair, falling just short of his neck, while his eyes are a rather icy blue color, not that there is ever much of an icy expression in his stare. His face was quite childish a few Turns back, but Hunolsik has started morphing into more of an adult form. He has always been rather skinny. While he now has some muscle tone on him, Hu’sik is still not even close to being the strongest person around. His skin is tanned from being out in the sun a lot, although he doesn’t put a big emphasis on making sure all of his skin is the same tone.
Normally he likes to wear clothes with some blue in them. It isn’t particularly because it reminds him of the sea or anything like that; he just always likes to be wearing at least one thing that has blue. Hunolsik doesn’t really think of it as his favorite color, but it is really, since he likes it better than all those other colors. He also prefers shorter clothes, since he doesn’t usually get to cold, and rather gets to hot instead. Only in winter does Hunolsik ever really feel seriously chilly, so then he has to wear warmer clothes.
Personality: Stuck as the middle child in a large family, Hunolsik had always been a bit in the shadows. His older siblings demanded attention, and his younger siblings wanted the same thing. Hunolsik had always been quieter. With parents to busy looking after the children that were begging to be noticed, he always seemed to be cast into the shadows. It worked its way into his personality slowly. A good way to describe him is laconic. He’s just never talked much. It was far too easy to hide in the shadows, and there was never anyone forcing him to be social. He hasn’t got a problem with people, of course, nor does he have a problem being a crowd of chattering people (which is the atmosphere he grew up into anyway). His only problem is getting around to talking himself. In general, he doesn’t bother, and whenever he does say something, it’s always at least partially intelligent. Ask for people to help with some sort of project or job, and he’ll volunteer quickly enough, but he’ll do it all in silence, figuring it out on his own and not caring if he gets help or not. Hunolsik has come to realize that it is impossible to control other people; you can only control yourself. As such, he doesn’t worry himself over what other people do. If they want to help him, they can, and if they want to sit around, they can. That’s there choice, and what can he do to change it?
That might make him sound a bit gloomy, and perhaps he is. Hunolsik certainly doesn’t have the brightest of all opinions. He tends to be very straightforward with his thoughts, not trying to hide behind “maybe” and “what if” kinds of thinking. The world is mostly black and white for him. Either something is or it isn’t. He doesn’t like it when something is a little of two things. It unnerves that circumstances can change around. Someone can start doing something one moment, and then decide they don’t like it the next. Water can be calm and then suddenly turn stormy. It’s something he doesn’t like much. Certainly, he understands that those kind of things do change, but Hunolsik would much rather that things either be something or be something different, not be part of both or be one thing and then another.
Is he smart? That’s a matter of opinion. Certainly, he only speaks when he has something smart to say, so perhaps he only has something intelligent on his mind when he speaks? Not completely. Hunolsik isn’t super smart, certainly, not the kind of smart that just amazes everyone. He certainly isn't dumb, but most of the intelligence comes from simple observation. He might notice something that someone else missed, which suddenly made a problem that much clearer. He doesn’t really brainstorm intelligent ideas in his head, he just observes something and then comes to a conclusion off of that. He has a fairly good memory to go with it. For the most part, he comes off more intelligent than he is simply because he never says anything that isn’t smart, so there is no other comparison to go off of in saying that he isn’t smart.
He is a ridiculously good sport with letting other people chose what he does. For some reason, he just never seems to see it as being pushed around. Certainly he is capable of making his own choices, but if someone wants to do the choice-making for him he never seems to care. Hunolsik doesn’t tend to like disagreeing with people, partially because arguing takes a lot of talking, and partially because no one else wants to be argued at. Even if someone said he should do something and he wanted to do something else, he’d most likely just go with what someone else wanted instead. He is definitely more of a follower than a leader.
History: Hunolsik was born to little-known parents in a Minor Hold. He was the odd one out from his siblings, the only one that could keep quiet and not mind it. So it wasn’t hard to think that he spent the first ten Turns of his life in an almost quiet isolation from people, at least inside himself, for he preferred to keep to himself rather than play with other children, and there was rarely anyone around to notice. He grew up fine with listening to others, but preferring to keep quiet himself. When he was ten Turns old his parents, in a to-late attempt to make him more sociable, decided to have Hunolsik get involved in a craft. Since he didn’t have any preference, they decided he should try being a fisher, since he knew how to swim and it was something that would force him to interact with other people.
That made Hunolsik end up at the Fishercraft Hall. He got on the bad side of some Apprentices a few Turns older than him, but not because he did anything specific; it was mostly in the way someone can simply dislike another person immediately without even knowing them. Hunolsik kept quiet and never got into trouble, not always doing things right but always trying, and for some reason other Apprentices found that irksome. Hunolsik was too involved in trying to figure this new work out to care much, or really even notice. Learning to work on a ship was much different than learning things on land. Water was more dangerous in some ways, and less dangerous than others. Hunolsik was never really sure if he preferred the land over the sea. They were both quite nice, and he did quite well enough anywhere.
While he might not have had a natural talent for fishing, Hunolsik picked it up quickly enough anyway. Everything about the craft, from reading maps to navigating the sea, was intriguing in its own way, and Hunolsik found himself quite interested with the vastness of knowledge there was to be gained from staying in the craft. Even when he couldn’t do something he was still trying his hardest, because he wanted to improve at it and figure out everything there was to learn. He wasn’t ambitious enough to have his sights on becoming a Master Fisher at that point, although maybe he would have eventually. Mostly he just wanted to keep learning from a subject that inspired him with its diversity. There was so much more to the craft than simply going out in boats and catching fish.
He was Searched by the Weyr after a few Turns of the fishercraft. Hunolsik finally did make a decision in life. He would head to the Weyr for the hatching, and then he could go back to his craft if he wanted too. Being torn by too appealing ideas, he never was sure of what exactly he wanted to do, but he eventually did decide, and that is for the best. Now he is at the Weyr, awaiting the hatching and wondering as to what will happen.
Pets:
Other: (didn't fit in personality either)
His most obvious skill is fishing, seeing as he’s been apprenticed to that for some Turns now. Hunolsik does have a very good understanding of how ships work. He’s helped to repair them and even watched one get built. Going out to sea isn’t a problem for Hunolsik; it is quite like a second home to him. Since he knows how to swim perfectly fine, falling overboard and drowning has just never been one of his fears. He usually doesn’t worry about a lot of things.
Hunolsik is also a good observer. He tends to be able to notice things just by looking around him. Sometimes this causes him to not listen to people when they are talking to him, which can be a problem. Hunolsik can be listening to someone quite intently and then notice something else and forget that someone is talking. It’s the one thing that really seems most irking about him. Of course, Hunolsik is capable of listening completely to a conversation, but as his mind can wander without him being aware of it he has some trouble actually making himself pay more attention to someone talking.
