In the 9th Pass, AVIAS was recovered and within the events that unfolded afterwards, Thread became eradicated from Pern. Meteors were the new disaster that dragons fought to maintain control of, although little did they know what would come next. Jornum Weyr was founded in the 11th Interval, in the Western Continent on Pern with the intent to protect the seas and land of the area from meteor fall. It was until turns and turns later, in the very beginning of the 13th pass did things start to change. The 12th Interval was the assumed next Long Interval, and the Pass that followed brought with it a fury that put Thread to shame. The orbit of the Red Star had returned, and with it it brought what it encountered on it's long trip away. Threads didn't fall, but a sort of rain, a black rain that burned, and a rain that soiled all it touched. It was a rain that fell without clouds, and whose molecular make-up was certainly not water. The dragonmen were caught off guard, of course because Thread had been reduced to naught but a myth, and because this, whatever it was, seemed to be horrifically worse.
The Weyrwoman of Jornum Weyr, although far into the latter half of her life, made the decision of what to do, quite accidentally to be honest. She had stumbled on old books, books bound with information that had been copied from the Records of the Old. The image was of the landscape of the Fort Weyr from the Old, and why, that batty old Weyrwoman cooked up an idea. The Weyrwoman of Jornum gathered the finest draftsmen she could muster, and she assigned them the task of studying, of researching, and to recreate the look of the Western Continent as best they could through their skills, in particular the area of Jornum Weyr. The next stage was something far more risky, and that would be sending a group of individuals to test it out. It was considered a suicide mission by many, and those who willing to risk it were thought of as imbeciles. Against the odds, and against everything that made sense, the dragonmen did jump back, able to hop further and further in time until reaching the 6th Interval. News was transported forward, and in what seemed to be no more than a sevenday's time, the Jornum Weyr of the 13th Pass found a way to escape the Rains.
The Weyr was established again, although this time in the 6th Interval, granted it was the late 6th Interval. Jornum was careful and cautious under Weyrwoman Pemri, the old nut who had saved her Weyr. In the turns, far more complications arose than what they believed. The Gondurr Hold was established, but Jornum found itself in need to reach out to the other Weyrs. Going about this was awkward, and the riders of Jornum agreed to form a lie. They wouldn't mention the future, they wouldn't mention the Rains, or anything that had happened in their timeline. Shards, for all they knew, that timeline was dead and gone. They had changed everything by jumping backwards, and they would be seen as nothing short of crazy by the other inhabitants of Pern. They came up with the story of simply branching off from the past, using the history of the fabled Moreta's plague (one that most of Jornum Weyr still wasn't convinced it ever happened) as some sort of reason as to their move.
Pern had been changed much during the turns and turns between the 6th Interval and the 13th Pass, and the Rains hadn't only ruined the Pern of the future, but also tainted the dragons. Jornum has a secret, one that it does it's best to keep under wraps, and that would be two new types of dragons, colors that weren't included in the spectrum of the Old Pern. Only the Weyr and Gondurr Hold only knew of the change, and of course the plentiful knowledge of a technology not yet discovered by the 6th Interval Pern.
Little time has passed, around fifty turns, and the current Weyrwoman, Creshin, and her Gold, Ornshath, have laid a clutch, and again time for Search has the Weyr spreading out to gather candidates from the other continents to bring to their secluded section of Pern. Once Searched, they wouldn't be allowed to leave, for once they know of their secret they can't allow them to spread it. As if there was a cause for even more strife, the 6th Interval is ending, and the 7th Pass nears, and with it, Thread, something that Jornum Weyr has never encountered before.
Jornum Is...
