Gwenduinne laughed as Tyrth turned on his own wingtip. Days like today, she was glad she had not Impressed the queen she had hoped for. There might well be a small part of her that envied Karisna.
But no queen...heck, even most *greens* could not fly like the white dragon, his dimunitive form capable of acrobatics that necessitated extra strong flying straps for the white rider.
She laughed again as he dived. "Don't wear yourself out. We might not have drill today, but we do tomorrow."
They flew Tyrth as a green, and he could not manage a full fall...something he constantly complained about, being as arrogant as any bronze, in his own way.
He snorted, pulling up, skimming low across the rim, his talons almost touching the rock. "Show off."

A great shadow engulfed the pair, but just as quickly moved on. Despite being a silhouette in the sky, the purple glow through her wing sails identified her without doubt. Not that an uncommon sight, since Inolyn being deemed safe to fly the pair could be found above the Weyr at least once a day. Jorindath had remained grounded through out her rider's recovery, so it was about time she stretched her wings.
The violet's movements were hardly daring, knowing that eyes tended to watch her. Her second mating flight was any day now and every male kept at least one eye on her. Queens weren't known for being nimble but they did posses strength and a surprising amount of grace for their size.
Jorindath danced on through lazy dives and circles. They had no where to be, nothing to do, but to breathe and enjoy their afternoon together

Tyrth, of course, had to show off even more. The white chased fairly often, never won...and wouldn't know what to do if he did. He only did it, as far as Gwen could tell, not to be left out.
For right now, though, he attempted to do a spinning barrel roll that encompassed the space *around* the violet. "Tyrth! I'm not sure...eep...my flying straps will hold, you crazy dragon!"
Whether Inolyn heard anything but an 'eep' from the white rider might be another matter. But Tyrth was determined to impress Jorindath...not that Gwen would have wanted Inolyn anyway. B'can could have her!

Jorindath pulled up into a hover, just watching the little white. Inolyn watched too, knowing for a long time what Tyrth was like. What she worried about was how Jorindath would take the bait. The violet liked to play, but in a pre-flight state who knows how she would react. It might even push her over the edge, but then she wouldn't have to worry about the waiting...
Jorindath's wings snapped shut and she let herself fall backwards. The world started to slowly tip upside down, rider scrambling for a tighter hold on her straps and pressing against her dragon's neck. Her belt would stop her from falling, that she wasn't afraid of, it was what was to come.
Twisting out of a dive she took off for the clouds, might wing beats taking her to great speeds. How would the little white keep up with her?

Tyrth...was not pleased as the queen rocketed off. After all, now he had to compete on her terms. He might be an arrogant little dragon.
He was still a LITTLE dragon. And while Jorindath was not close to the size of her golden dam, she dwarfed the white. And there was no arguing with his attempt to chase her...all for fun, of course. About all Gwen could do was cling on to his neckridges. "My dragon has gone insane!"
Tyrth sent mental laughter, which made her wonder if 'gone' was actually the right word. Maybe he had hatched that way!
Now there was a moment in her life Gwen would never forget. The wind streamed her hair back and she was very, very glad she had donned her riding goggles.

Jorindath gave a playful trill, encouraging Tyrth to chase on. Though she could leave him in her tail wind, there was no fun in proving something they already knew. This was no test of strength or ability and Tyrth wasn't expected to chase queens. Even if he could and won, he probably wouldn't know what to do with her with such a size difference. Jorindath herself was three times his size!
I will play fair, little white. I dont enjoy abusing ones handicaps. Tilting onto her side she folded her inside wing and set herself into a dizzy corkscrew, only pulling out when her rider thought she was going to be sick.
Do I really need to be dragged into this? I think I would be much happier to be on the ground then this!
And where's your sense of adventure? Besides, you give me the best ideas when you don't want me to do them

Handicaps? I can turn in the length of your tail Tyrth pointed out.
Gwen rolled her eyes. "Which is exactly why we need small dragons and big ones, although do you guys HAVE to involve your riders in this?"
Apparently they did...at least Tyrth showed no sign of landing to let Gwen off. That would have let Jorindath get far, far too far away, after all. The white rider was exhilirated and terrified all at the same time...and wondering how the queenriders handled the very different style of flying of their great beasts.

I didn't mean it as a bad thing. Everyone has their limits, even me and as if to prove a point took to higher skies in a great burst of air. The little white had to work twice as hard as the large violet to meet the same height, it taking about twice the wing beats.
"Jorindath.... I'm starting to feel light headed, we're going lower" They were well above what could be classed as a causual flight. The air was thinning and Inolyn was finding it harder to breath. Jorindath wasn't going to argue, not wishing to put her rider through any real danger. Circling into graceful desent, Jorindath was feeling nothing but remorse. "It's not your fault, you got carried away that all. It's been a while since we have had any fun..."

Tyrth dropped as well, before the violet. White wings were, indeed, starting to tire, although the small dragon certainly did not want to admit it. "Our dragons are crazy!" she yelled to Inolyn as the two reached more or less the same level.
"Not that that's a bad thing." Had circumstances been different, Gwen might, somehow, have bonded a queen, but she had been the best one there for Tyrth. For some reason...and the white dragon certainly had not been entirely clear about why he had chosen her out of all those present.
No regrets for roads not traveled. Not any more.

"Well they've got to keep us on our toes!" Inolyn called back, giving her dragon a slap on the neck to steer them back towards the Weyr. She didn't know about Gwen but she had had enough for one day.
We will have to play again sometimes, Tyrth. When our riders aren't holding us back Jorindath trilled as she veered away.
