"Hrm. I'd be a journeyman by now, I figure, and probably married to somebody not nearly as good looking as you." Of course, he would never have met her, so it wouldn't matter. "I was a smith, you know, when I got Searched."
He'd be making things and it would be a decent life, and he wouldn't know it was empty without Apolloth, for he would never have met the dragon. Or Inolyn, of course. The comment he had made had been genuine, an appreciation of how surprised he often was to have such a wonderful woman in his life.
Certainly, she had been unexpected.

Inolyn wrapped her hands around his arm, feeling the muscle beneath her fingers. "I could see you being a Smith. I'm sure everyone would still know my name, even if i wasn't a violet rider." Everyone knew she had been a harper, and a talented one at that. As the years ticked by Inolyn the harper slowly faided away and became Inolyn, rider of violet Jorindath.
"I would have earned my journeywoman title the year after I was searched, probably have been posted at the larger Holds or keep at the Hall. In the past 3 Turns I would have written maybe... 10 songs? One or two ballads..." It had been what she had wanted, what she had dreamed of. Dragons had not been part of that plan.
"And I guess I would have been wooed over by some man by now, despite music being my only love. Twenty-two sounds like a good age to start settling down, I wouldn't leave the Hall though so he would have to be a harper or someone close by."

B'can considered. "So, we'd never have met. Much less gotten together. I blame the dragons for everything."
He was definitely amused. "I think I'm glad, anyway, that I accepted Search. Had I been a little older when they found me, I might not have. I might have decided I was too happy as a smith."
He glanced up as Guess appeared from between to land nearby. "Hey there, little one," he greeted the brown, cheerfully. Her hands on his arm? They could stay there as long as she cared to leave them. Even dragonrider women still carried less bulk than men. Sometimes he wondered why that was, but it appeared to be the way things were.
They were very nice hands, though.

"Well, we might have met but would we have noticed? Who knows where we would be posted, and there are Gathers as well. It wasn't until we were lying naked in my bed after Jori's flight did we even acknowledge each other." B'can had had his heart set on Brylorea, and Inolyn had been content with the attentions of T'lat. It seemed their dragons had planned otherwise, and after spending a little time together they slowly got closer and closer.
"My masters told me to go. I was only watching from an upper window when the search dragons came, I thought 18 was a little old but I was curious. Would any of my friends be picked out? The dragons heard me, singing in my head. Apparently I had a beautiful mind's voice." The rest was history. Had her dragon been attracted to her minds voice as well? The song she had written after Impression had been spread all over Pern before the end of that year, and Jorindath had been nicknamed 'The Harper's Queen' by the Hall.
Inolyn smiled at Guess, knowing that her green, Leaf, would appear before long if she knew the brown was here. The flirty little lizard liked having a brown close by. Green-brown, violet-tan... Inolyn giggled softly. "Smith red and Harper blue make violet." Pointing to Jorindath splashing in the lake.

B'can grinned. "But then where did the tan come in?" he asked. "And you're right."
He had wanted Brylorea, and had been too young to grasp that she did not want him back. But then, what young man did not make that kind of mistake at least once. In the holds, where most marriages were arranged...people still made those mistakes. At the Weyr, where things were freer, young men could make fools of themselves more openly.
"You have a beautiful *voice* period." He was sure that Jorindath thought Inolyn's mind voice was something special, but dragons always thought their riders were something else again. And vice versa. It was the way of things.

"Hmm... colors of our birth places?" Inolyn shrugged, having no other explanation she could think of.
"Now, now, see here! It wouldn't be very becoming of me to suddenly become all high and might just because I have a special talent and rider a queen. I like to sing, so whether I'm good or bad I won't let it stop me." She had been a daydreamer, grateful for what she had and happy she could do what she loved. It was because she was better then most she had to work harder then most, it was a balance.
"But thank you for the compliment, my handsome gentleman." And she kissed her weyrmate's cheek

"Why would I not compliment you?" He accepted the kiss, holding her close to him. He wasn't going to let her go until one or both of them either had duties or got hungry...and then maybe he could even convince Guess to bring food.
Maybe. The brown was reasonably well trained, but he might still eat it on the way here. So, he supposed, they would have to move sooner or later. For right now, the stocky tanrider hoped that it would be later. A lot later. Maybe they could even stay here until evenmeal. "Part of me wants to just stay here forever, with you," he murmured to his lovely queenrider.
He knew he could not, but for right now, he was going to appreciate this. For as long as it might end up lasting.

"Forever is a really long time" Inolyn spoke into his chest, wishing the same. It was impossible, spare time was short and long between. It was only a matter of time till she would force herself back to her lists and records, she mostly only reported what needed to be done. Telling people what to do was more Kora's job. That and Craft relations, L'han could deal with the Holds.
"And there are a lot more comfortable places to spend 'forever'." Wriggling out of his arms and skipped out of reach. "Come inside. Maybe we can work a little more on that baby we we're talking about earlier." With a sly wink and a giggle she slipped out of sight into her weyr.
