Although a long way from fully grown, the dragon that sunned off to one side of the bowl was unmistakably a queen.
Not a gold queen, mind, but rather the slightly smaller (and fully firestone capable) violet variety. Both her obvious youth and her reddish tint would allow anyone who knew Nyocia's dragons to recognize her as the Weyr's youngest queen, Fioloth.
The clincher would, of course, be her rider, sitting against her dragon's shoulder and reading a hide. It being a fine day, she was doing her studies outside...and there was much asked of even a weyring violetrider, especially as there were currently no junior golds at Nyocia.
Nayarath did not well tolerate the presence of other queens, but was not concerned by the less forceful and ambitious violets.

The Weyr was always awash in colors, the dragons littered Weyr from its floor to the rim. It could be quite a sight, especially from above. The air was warm, and a green was enjoying stretching her wings. Maideneth was not the most graceful flyer, she didn't dance and play on the winds as many might. No she had a bigger itch to scratch...She was so bored!
On yet another lazy lap around she spied the young violet sunning. Fioloth was definitely growing up, bigger then her green self anyway. Her reddish color reminded her of the charcoals, was her personality going to match? She much preferred browns and tans anyway. Was Johannesth's rider still with hers?
The greens thoughts were starting to circle round and round, untill she noticed that that's what she had been doing literally and blocking out the light above Fioloth.
Oops...

Fioloth lifted a lazy head at the green. You are blocking my sunning. she sent to the green with amusement.
"Be nice. She might only be a green, but we need all the greens," Kari murmured to her dragon, glancing up at the circling green. She was a particularly bright color and not at all unattractive, although nothing compared to her lovely Fioloth, of course.
Fioloth, at that, snorted. Maideneth *was* only a green and nobody short of maybe a tan or bronze got to block her light. The green had better move, or land, or something...
Which got her a mental eye-rolling from Kari, who was much less inclined to pull rank on anyone, rider or dragon.

As soon as the words hit her mind it broken Maideneth's frozen thoughts. The snap of wings was audible in her haste to move, which sent her flying as quick as her wings would take her to the other side of the Weyr. This green was known for her explosive energy and would be long gone in the blink of an eye.
Maideneth however wasn't lucky today, and dragon instinct saved her. Erith and Aresth appeared from between in her path. The browns dived away, and Maideneth rolled away with much floundering. Aresth barked angrily and the green redirected her path to scramble into her weyr and out of sight. Erith rumbled in amusement, feeling a little sorry for the already spooked green

Fioloth rumbled too...she did at least find a little bit of sympathy for the poor green. Well, mostly for Erith and Aresth suddenly appearing. They really did need to check their airspace.
Karisna rolled her eyes. "See, that's what happens when you don't treat people properly," she informed the young queen.
She was not treating ME properly Of course, she was paying some attention to the two browns...they were not bronzes or tans, but they were both decent-sized males.
And, therefore, they would be of interest when the time came, and why not start making considerations now? Kari could have told her why...because even a queen would have forgotten by the time of Fioloth's first flight.
Dragon memory had its 'uses'.

Erith landed and once free of his straps flew up to the heights to sun the chill of between from his height. Aresth was in too much of a foul mood, all over being startled by a wild wherry. There had been no need to take his frustration out on Maideneth though, the green was flying faster then they thought but they had known to duck away.
Please don't be upset, Fioloth. It will worry us terribly if you are not happy. Erith may be a brown but the only thing he lacked was the metallic shine to his hide to be a bronze. Of course the large brown would notice the young queen's displeasure, it was hard to miss such important things. Sure, she wouldn't be ready to breed for another Turn or so but that was no excuse.
I am pleased your Rider takes such fine care of you, you grow more beautiful each day.

OOC: Are their riders around or not?

ooc: K'nam would be in the Bowl, within sight but not particularly close. R'mal probably would have stalked off and Earisa might be on her way to comfort her dragon

Fioloth shifted position to show herself off at her best angle for the browns. Oh, she might not mature for a while, but she knew that males were important. And one of them was a very big brown.
He might be worthy of her. Maybe. Bronzes and tans were, of course, inherently better.
I am upset with the silly green, not you she reassured both browns, although more of her attention was on the larger one.
Poor Maideneth...nearly hit and now dismissed as a silly green. Kari, for her part, was trying to locate the riders of *any* of these dragons. Maybe they were all inside sipping klah...not that she hadn't left Fioloth to her own devices often enough.
She was a good dragon...just a little bit vain and arrogant. Which was only to be expected from a queen.

I know, but she is small and frightens easy. Aresth sent her back to her weyr so she wont hurt herself or others. She will not bother you again Normally Jorindath kept the greens in check, since she had the patience to deal with them. But this close to laying she was in no mood to deal with near anyone, she hated being egg heavy and was better left alone. It wouldn't last long, any day now she would be on the hatching grounds.
Erith's attention wavered for a moment, looking down into the bowl at his rider walking back to his weyr. K'nam liked to walk every now and again, never complained like some Riders did.

Fioloth's eyes whirled a little. She is silly she pronounced, as if that was supposed to be the final word in the matter.
Although, there was no real authority behind it. She was in too lazy a mood to start ordering the browns around, thankfully. Besides, she did acknowledge that, for now, they were older than her. With maturity, that would change...although they would always be older, she was one of their queens. She expected that level of respect.
Even from silly greens.
Make that especially from silly greens.

Maideneth, in particular, can be very silly Erith agreed, unable to bring himself to argue with a queen, even a young one. An unfortunate repercussion of being a dragon, the queen is always right and the higher the queen, the more weight her words held. Jorindath would have argued with Fioloth, then the older violet would be right. Then if Nayarath agreed with Fioloth, then the senior queen would be right.
The brown relaxed a little more on his perch, wings sliding open loosely to the warmth of the sun. Tomorrow would come Thread, would he return with scars on his hide? A Thread-eaten wing? Would he return at all? They were the thoughts of his rider, the dragon was confident that they would rise to flame till the last. Whether it be their final breath or when they could no longer fly. It was their duty to the Weyr, to their queens, to Pern.

If a dragon could smile, Fioloth would have at that point. She had the male where she wanted him. Her rider said one day she would really understand why that was important.
Her rider also said she wasn't allowed Apolloth, because he was Jorindath's as long as the older violet wanted him. Nayarath didn't care to keep one male to herself, but Jorindath did.
That was something else the young violet would 'understand later'. Right now, all she knew was that it felt right to have the slightly subservient company of males.
Kari glanced up at the brown. He was a fine dragon...maybe it was time for her to start to really get to know the bronze, tan and brown riders. If Fioloth turned out more like Jorindath, would any of them make her a good weyrmate? Or would she be kept free to make a completely free choice?
The bronzes and tans, of course, would be more to Fioloth's tastes than a brown...she thought.
