But K'laonMine, Amirinth does not need a bath! She was just in the water! Amirinth stood at the edge of the lake, tossing her head like a water-shy runnerbeast and not looking ready to move at all.
"In the ocean! That's saltwater, you bug." K'laon gave her shoulder a pat and stepped into the lake for a third time, trying to convince the Green to follow her. "You don't want all that salt clinging to your hide."
Amirinth snorted, her eyes flashing with irritated yellows. I don't mind salt clinging to my hide!
"It'll dry it out and you'll need an even longer bath," K'laon repeated. He placed his hands on his hips and looked at the Green expectantly. Amirinth held one paw out towards the lake and dipped a clawtip daintily in and drew back with a snort.
I don't need a bath, she repeated stubbornly. I was just swimming. I am clean. She turned around and started off on her own, only to pause a few steps later to look shyly back and see what her rider was doing.
K'laon hadn't moved and was only looking at her with raised eyebrows. Amirinth flicked her tail uncertainly and finally turned, ran, and leapt into the lake with a great splash.
Look K'laonMine, Amirinth is covered in this water now. Can we leave?

Lanoen was exploring his new Weyr, gawking like a tourist despite all of his attempts to appear as if he had lived in the Weyr his whole life. He led Winter by a rope around his collar. The canine was very well behaved, but Lanoen didn't want to upset anyone by letting his friend run free just yet. He felt bad, though, because Winter kept tugging at the rope, obviously as eager to explore as his owner was.
"Maybe if we get out of the weyrbowl a little, they won't mind as much," Lanoen murmured to himself. He headed in the direction of the lake, then bent down to untie the canine's rope. Winter yipped in joy, then careened off towards the water, jumping in. He clearly didn't care about the dragon, and started swimming around the green. Lanoen shook his head, hoping that his canine wouldn't be eaten. Dragons seemed fairly docile unless provoked, so he wasn't too concerned, but he thought he should speak to the rider anyway.
"Just let me know if he's bothering her," he said, coming to stand before the rider. He wished he could just yell from a distance, but that wasn't possible for him anymore.

Amirinth barked at the canine, playfully trying to immitate the noise they often seemed to make, and followed its track around her with whirling eyes. The Grass liked things that would swim with her.
"Don't try to take off with it," K'laon muttered, placing a restraining hand on Amirinth's side before she could try and swim to deeper waters. Where she had just landed was about waist-deep for the short rider and he didn't need her going any further than that. "You still need a bath."
No! I will swim with the little creature. Amirinth ducked her head, placing her chin in the water so she could be more at eye level with the canine. Taking advantage of her distraction, K'laon scooped some sand from the floor of the lake and began rubbing briskly at his dragon's hide. Amirinth raised her head to glare at him. I got all wet, K'laonMine! Amirinth does not need scrubbing!
"Maybe if you had gotten in faster. Look at where the salt's caked on you- right there beneath your wing-joint. That'll itch if you try flying." K'laon rubbed the sand over the spot and then cupped his hands to gather water to rinse it off. Amirinth snorted.
Amirinth was, for the moment, holding still so K'laon addressed the boy who he guessed owned the canine while working Amirinth's hide more. "I'm sure he won't, I think right now he's probably a help since Amirinth isn't swimming off quite yet."
I will,[/i][/color] she grumbled, I'll get you properly soaked first though.

Winter yipped excitedly as the Green lowered her head. He pawed at her muzzle, which might have scratched a human, but it would barely be felt on strong dragon hide. The corner of Lanoen's mouth twitched upwards in a smile. Luckily, the dragon seemed more curious than upset, so Winter would be safe from becoming a meal.
He watched as the rider waded in to the water to give his dragon a good scrubbing. Maybe it was just him, but the dragon didn't seem too happy about her bath. "Need any help?" he asked. He imagined that bathing a dragon, even a comparatively small Green, was hard work alone.

Amirinth snorted as the canine pawed at her muzzle, drawing her head away quickly in surprise. She had never actually been touched by one. A lot just stood there and yipped at her, their fur rising so they could try and look bigger. It didn't work well- Amirinth was small for a dragon but there was no such thing as a small dragon. After getting over that first sense of surprise, she lowered her head to playfully nudge the canine back.
"I could probably use it." As long as the canine remained around here, Amirinth probably would too. "What's your friend called?" For some reason, that question came to mind before asking the boy's name; K'laon recognized the knots of a Candidate on his shoulder and figured he'd know sooner or later, with eggs on the Sand.
Amirinth gave her tail an unexpected swing, sending water surging towards her already wet rider. I won't stay, K'laonMine, she grumbled. See, see! An easy push of her legs sent her forwards through the lake and she swam to a spot she knew Hers would be too short to stand in and rumbled.
K'laon sighed softly and wiped some water away from his face. Get back over here, bug. "She doesn't like baths," he added aloud to the boy. It was probably fairly obvious, but the obvious wasn't something the rider ever minded stating.
Come here little furry, Amirinth gazed at the canine, trying to convince it out to deeper waters too, although K'laon was the only one who heard her voice. He sighed softly, but wouldn't wade out deeper. Amirinth would be back eventually, maybe faster if the animal didn't follow her out.

Lanoen nodded and rolled up his pants to his knees before wading in to the water, coming to stand beside the rider. "He's Winter, named for the time he was born," he explained. He chuckled as the Green waded out into deeper water, eluding the humans. He had guessed right that she didn't like bathes. "I figured."
Winter barked in surprise as a big voice sounded in his head. He didn't understand the words, but he knew well enough that the dragon wanted him to follow. He started paddling out, but Lanoen whistled. "Stay, Winter," he said firmly. Winter whimpered, looking from the dragon to the human, confused. Eventually his master won out and he stayed in the shallow end, watching the dragon swim off wistfully. Lanoen winked at the rider. He had planned to have Winter stay nearby in the hopes of convincing the Green to remain in the shallows.

"Ah." K'laon wasn't totally sure what season it had been when Amirinth hatched... that had been ten years ago. He could remember Impressing, but not any of the other details of the day, or days around it. "Figured what?" He glanced at the boy.
Amirinth chirped to Winter, excited that he was following her, and then turned to glare at the boy as he called the canine back. Was he trying to thwart her plans for fun! And his little creature obeyed him, stupid thing. It was a curse of being a Green, no-one listened to them.
Well, we can all bathe then, Amirinth grumbled, coming a little closer to her rider again and giving one of her wings a swing to send water surging over his head. Hopefully she got the boy too, and his Winter. They would all regret calling the canine back, oh yes.

Winter whined as a big splash sent him underwater for a moment. When he came back up, he was even more soaked than he wanted to be, and he paddled back towards Lanoen, eying the green mistrustfully. Lanoen was just as wet as his canine, and he had lost his footing in the splash. He grumbled and floated back to his feet, glaring at the dragon. "I didn't need a bath."
Suddenly, he remembered something, and he frantically reached into his pocket. To his dismay, the small carving he had been working on was gone. It must have fallen out when he fell. "Shards, I lost something."
