Ketara knelt beside her hearth, wincing a little at the fierce heat. It felt like summer, here, and that was her least favorite season. She set one egg pot down, and pulled the other two from the satchel that rested against her knee. She peeked into each one, and selected the Golden Spot egg. That one, she put closest to the flames. She set Blue Skies to the left, and Green mist to the right.
Then, she penned a brief note to one of the cooks, asking if a drudge could be sent up with refreshments, and gave it to Kyre. The brown grasped the note in his talons, and flitted between.
Before the brown came back, Ketara hung the furs satchel off her bedpost, and collapsed in her furs.
Arkine had been sunning in the window; now he rose, and glided over to where His lay. He landed on her stomach, backwinging to avoid landing too hard.
"Back so soon, Kyre? Ah, little Arkine, it is you. No green to chase?" she teased the amorous brown, who pretended to look affronted.
A drudge knocked on the door, bearing a tray. She got up to let him in, and took the tray. Thanking him, she settled the tray on a miraculously fur-free spot on her clothespress, and poured herself a cup of juice from the pitcher. She'd missed breakfast, so she snagged one of the little meatrolls included as snack-food.

You are wanted. Surely not by you? Will Thread fall backwards then? F'ynch automatically responded with a teasing comment, though Truth was a little annoyed at being woken to demand something of His. He didn't demand. No, he just told His what to do and expected it to be done, that wasn't the same thing. No. Goodness Mine, you should know that by now. Axeth's wants you to go to her weyr.
Axeth? Right, that was Ketara wasn't it? Sigh, once in a while it would be nice if some cute brown rider or something invited him to their weyr. Oh well, if Ketara wanted to see him, he really, really didn't see any point why he shouldn't go. Thanks Truth, go back to sleep. You're grumpy when people wake you up. Though the words were harsh and Truth snorted in response, F'ynch's smile was affectionate as he left the weyr.
"What on Pern could she want with me? Surely Truth hasn't insulted anyone, and I certainly haven't done anything." The words were muttered darkly to himself, even as he raised a hand to knock lightly on Ketara's door. Never mind waiting for her to invite him in, after he knocked, he merely walked in, raising a brow at Ketara. "Truth grumbles that you want to see me Ketara?" Never mind greetings, or any such nonesense, Fynch got straight to the point.

Axeth says you are wanted by his Kayth mentioned as he preened himself in the warm sunshine, his hide gleaming in the sunlight. There was still yet to be a touch of green gleam to the young bronze, but he was health and active nother the less.
Me? What does Ketara want with me? D'mas wondered, but the best way to find out was to go see. It didn't take long for the young man to scale the stairs but was what was odd that he saw another man ahead of him, heading in the same direction. Now this was getting curious....
Oooo!!! said as he seemed to instantly appear at the base of the weyr having raced across the bowl. Settle Kayth... "looks like I'm not the only one who was called."

Both riders had arrived. Good. Ketara gestured to the tray of meatrolls, and proceeded to pour them each a cup of the juice.
"Yeah...I wanted to talk to the two of you."
Her weyr wasn't precisely set up for meetings, being only a blue's weyr (albeit a very nice one), so she would have to improvise. Holding the center of her bottom lip in her teeth, she contemplated her resources.
Clothespress...fur-covered table...hearth, oh shards no, let's see...bed...bed?
That had potential...it was neatly made, and too utilitarin to really be comfortable for...other activities.
But even as she considered it, she dismissed it. These two would be shocked by the mere suggestion- F'ynch was a man-lover, and D'mas...he was one of her pupils.
"I'd something I wanted to give you...if you'll take them."[
She sipped from her juice, and nibbled a meatroll. How would they react to her proposition?

"Sure," Was all D'mas could think of as a responce. Ketara was one of his teachers, so this could only be something outside of his lessons but whatever could that be? He wasn't doing badly in his lessons was he? Surely they would have said something to him in class then, and Kayth was as happy as a dragonet could be.
He was hungry or thirsty just yet, so he passed on her offer of hospitality for now. Who knew how long they would be here.

"Why?" F'ynch was instantly suspicious and curious, he wasn't close to Ketara, not really, a conversation here and there maybe but neither Axeth nor Truth really played nice with others. I don't play nice? Gold calling the green proddy right there. F'ynch's lips twitched in response to this and he managed a smile at Ketara, he didn't understand her reasoning, why would she want to give him something?
"I.. Thank you Ketara." Seeing the weyrling refuse refreshments, F'ynch shrugged and shook his head, he wasn'ty overly hungry, but he didn't want to be rude either, so he smiled at her, seeing her bite her lip. Why was she nervous? It wasn't like she had anything really to worry about, Axeth would have both their heads if they upset. "Thank you, I'm not very hungry though."
Leaning against the wall casually as he watched her, Fynch was sorely tempted to tease her for the way she was biting into her lip. She was being silly, he was a fellow blue rider, and D'mas... D'mas was still a weyrling, a good looking one... But still a weyrling.

If she waited long, she wouldn't be able to get it out of her mouth, so she rushed into her suggestion.
"I saw both of you in little Meagan's firelizard Shoppe, and heard you both get turned down. I traded for three eggs, but Axeth won't let me keep more than one. To make up for denying you a lizard in the shop, would you take them now?"
There- she said it. She'd even made herself sound somewhat intelligent, and very much the victim. Axeth was well-known for his rude eccentricities, and it was believable that he'd not let her Impressed three lizards. Right?
Feh. Like you'd manage to keep them from eating each other anyways.
Thank you, love.[/i]
Silence greeted that warm thought. She looked anxiously at the two riders, more than a little worried about their reception. Would they take the eggs?

"That is very kind of you Ketara, but I wsn't turned down straight out. I did manage to leave with one small egg but I had chosen two incase mine was a dud." While it was a logical plan he didn't want to give the impression he had been greedy. Far from it, since most walked away with one egg. One of the green Weyrlings had 3, two small and a medium. Course she was as innocent of having got three, when deciding between the 3 they all seemed to have quailties about them she liked; weither they reminded her of her green's lightning energy or had a calming feel to it.
But Axeth doesn't want it, are you going to refuse? Kayth personally seemed to love the little creatures, but then again there seemed very little he didn't.

"Huh?" F'ynch hadn't been expecting that, a firelizard? He'd gone mostly just to see if he could, getting turned down at one clutch wasn't a big deal. Why would she want to give him one though? Didn't she have a lover or something she'd prefer? "I don't-" Mine, she's offered. You wanted one so what is the Thread in your pants? I don't know why she'd do it...
Just say thank you. "Thank you, but-" No but! Just, 'thankyou Axeth's' then something nice, you can accept or you can decline, don't hurt her feelings. "Thank you Ketara. It's a kind offer, but... Are you sure? Surely Axeth would let you keep them... After a while." Good boy. F'ynch smiled slightly at Truth's tone, though said nothing in return to the blue. Honestly Truth was a life saver some times, he knew just when to butt in.
Glancing at the weyrling again, F'ynch wasn't sure if what the boy had just said was an acceptance or a declining of the offer. Weyrlings weren't supposed to learn tack until they graduated. What happened to you then? You have as much tack as a light crazed watch-wher. Shut up. Oh it burns. Burns. Wait no, no it doesn't. That was a really weak one Mine. Truth was obviously enjoying himself, and thus F'ynch did the sensible thing, he ignored the blue.

"If there's one thing I've learned over the past three Turns, it's to back down when needed."
She smiled at her fellow blue rider, inviting him to agree with her.
Just Faranth-sharding take the sharding thing, Truth. Kayth, don't let Yours agrue. Just take the sharding egg.
The blue grumped on his stone couch, twitching a stingy-thing off his hide.
She still needed to convince D'mas...and pleading would only undermine any authority she might have over the bronze weyrling.
"I really can't keep all three, so unless F;ynch would like to take them both..." she left the implied threat dangle- if D'mas didn't take it, she'd give it to the other, the blue rider. Maybe that would do the trick. Seventeen Turns, and she still didn't wuite understand the male mind.

Axeth really doesn't want it, he is a strange blue Kayth was confused by Axeth's refusal to let his rider have more then one firelizard. Nearly everyone had one or more of the creatures these days.
"It seems he has trouble agreeing to just one, and Kayth love's the little creatures. The more the merrier." He said in acceptence. He had his growing dragon and one egg warming by a hearth, surely another wouldn't make much of a difference.

If Mine was listening to me, he would have accepted graciously Axeth. Since when do Ours listen to anything we say? Hey! I listen to you! Other than a mental snort, Truth didn't respond to his rider, even as F'ynch smiled back at Ketara she was right in a way. Truth was a pain in the backside, and he'd learnt when it was best to just let the blue win what ever argument they were having.
Her trailing off at let him have both made F'ynch narrow his eyes at her, there was no way in sharding Pern he was having two newborns to look after. That was not going to happen. If the weyrling didn't want it, F'ynch would find someone else. One he could deal with but not two babies, definately not two babies. "Don't even think about it, Truth is as bad as three newborns-" HEY! "I don't think I can deal with more than one flitter."

Ketara had to duck her head to avoid showing her broad grin. Her ruse had worked! Then she got a whiff of Axeth's conversation.
Never. My wench barely listenes, even when I'n so much more informed than she could ever hope to be.
"Axeth! There, you see what I have to put up with?"
She crossed over to her hearth, and picked up both egg pots.
"Shards, these things are hot! Here, I'll wrap them in..." her voice was lost as she dug through a pil of fur, looking for pelts small enough to wrap easily, but big enough to afford a good grip.

So you see my problem. Mine can be intelligent but I think he mostly just chooses not to. Truth responded lazily, well aware that F'ynch was listening to every word and already plotting on how to get him back.
F'ynch pulled a face and nodded slightly as Truth relayed what the blue had said. At least Truth wasn't that bad, he wasn't downright rude, he was just truthful. And tactless, but that wasn't always a bad thing. Sometimes being tactless was good, Truth often said the things F'ynch wouldn't.
Waiting patiently for Ketara, F'ynch turned his head to the weyrling, starting a conversation with the good old: "So, you're a weyrling?"

"Yes, D'mas of bronze Kayth." D'mas said but he moved to help Ketara search for something to protect their hands from the heat of the pots. It didn't matter to him that he might know as much about dragons as them, nor his dragon would grow larger then the blues. They were all riders here.
"How about this one?" He said uncovering a long stretch of fur. "Wrapping int around the pot should give enough protection for our hands."

"Oh, that'd be perfect, D'mas!"
Ketara unsheathed her belt knife, and sliced the long fur in half. She wrapped one half around each pot, and held them out, making sure that Blue Skies went to D'mas.
"There y'go. They should be hatching soon, at least, that's what Meagan said."
Kayth, you are nevre to mention this in lessons, on pain of fire stone. You hear me?
The blue used a very private band of thought to project that threat. He had to protect his- and there fore Ketara's- image! If they gave away good eggs that they had traded for fair and square, she would be ruined, and he woud be ridiculed.
((And he's being ridiculous.))

Hatching soon. Hm, F'ynch moved away from the wall, towards Ketara. He'd hoped for some time to try and get Truth used to sharing him but oh well, he supposed if they were hard enough to be sold, then they were hard enough to hatch. Not that F'ynch claimed to know anything about f'lizards.
Accepting the egg and fur with a nod of his head, F'ynch ran a finger down the edge of the hot shell, a slight smile twitching his lips. "Thank you Ketara." He whispered, unsure what to say for a long moment. Firelizard eggs were precious things, they weren't usually given lightly. "If there's ever anything I can do for you, let me know." F'ynch didn't like people doing things for him without giving them something in return, but right now he didn't have anything, so he'd wait, and when Ketara needed something of him, he'd return the favour.
(-flails- Can't. Think! Stoopid cold >> Sorry about the cruddiness)

I wouldn't tell, Kyath answered the blue though he flet a little hurt that a grown dragon would threaten a young dragonet who was yet to learn how to chew.
"Thank you Ketara, but i too should be going. Weyrlings have little enough free time as it is. It was nice talking to you." The pot firmly nessled in his hands he took his leave, this should be placed with his other back on a hearth as soon as possible. It would be no good to let it go cold and prevent it form hatching.

"They should be hatching soon. Don't be late to the next lesson, D'mas. F'ynch, my duty to Truth."
All of this was sheer rote, the pleasantries one usually said upon leaving. She closed the door behind them, and collapsed on her bed.
Don't fret, girl. You did well.
Was that concern in Axeth's mental voice? No, surely not. The blue was too surly to concern himself about anything other than, well, himself.
