So, I was just perusing over Weatherunderground and watching Ike's steady progress towards Texas and I was wondering if anyone else was going to be affected by the so-called menace. People here are, frankly, freaking out and I have come to realize one thing: These people are far, far from the coast. I myself have migrated away from the coast and have had the pleasure- yes, pleasure - of experiencing such a storm. What we got was wind, rain, a thirty minute power outage and...that's about it.
I'm thinking that most people are compairing Texas' vast coastal region with that of Louisianna which is under sea level. Because we Texans do not make cities in bowls, we do not have the likelihood of being flooded as dramatically as New Orleans was. It is with this mindset, and with that of one whose survived such a storm in the past that I find myself not worried at all. Actually, I'm mildly concerned about tornadoes, but other than that, I realize that I'm too far north to get a whole lot of anything aside from wind and rain.
Thoughts?
